    I came here because my ficus got brown edges on the leaves, I know now, from underwatering (as I grow mostly succulents). The watering regime may be very different when you live in a dry climate ( low humidity) . The water is sucked out by the air rather than by the plant. It is a chalenge, to try and grow tropical plants in a dry climate. It is interesting to also have a hygrometer as well as a thermometer. Your talk was very well done, very comprehensive, shows you have a lot of experience. It was a pleasure to watch.

      Nobody will tell me whether I should cut those leaves off, trim/reshape the leaves themselves, or leave them on.

    Thank you! I think in my efforts to not overwater, I’m underwatering. My ficus elastica tineke is doing well. New growth. Beautiful leaves. But, some mid and lower leaves have brown crispy edges.
    Totally off topic - Your dress is so pretty!

    Very nice video. I have a ficus elastica that looks very healthy but I noticed some little small brown dots on the back of a few of the leaves but the leaves still look very healthy. Is there a reason why?

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Rod,
      Great question! Small raised brown spots can be scales. Flat/ indented small brown spots count indicate fungus issues like rust spots. If the spots spread then it's definitely fungal issue and needs to be moved to area with better air circulation and a fungalcide.
      Thanks for watching and asking a question! Happy Ficus Gardening ❤️

    Thanks for your info. Ive given up on this plant. I bought 6 of them. Studied all the right material. Religiuosly checked soil and conditions. All, thats right, ALL OF THESE POS PLANTS DIED. THERE just like cilantro. Its dam near imposible to keep them alive. So depressing to see money thrown in thr trash. Never can understand how these plsnts do well at the big box stores. Im sure the workers dont spend hours and hours investigsting these plant and their sophistication. All thsy do is water them and move on to the next plant, and yet the plant survives with no issues. i even tried contscting the distributors for these plsnts to see what the secret to success was, and basically was not told anything that i alreafy didnt kno. These plants SUCK for me in my opinion. To have to come at these plants like their newborn children and they still die pisses me off beyond belief.

      Hi Mike,
      Thanks for sharing your unfortunate experience with growing Ficus. You can always try growing them outside as do do thrive outdoors and even in full sun once acclimated.
      Keep going you will get there. Thanks for watching and Happy Ficus Gardening ❤️

    Do you cut off leaves that have brown edges?

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  2 місяці тому

      Hi, Fantastic question.
      If the majority of the leaf is brown l will remove it. If only small section is brown then l leave the leaf.

    How often should the leaves of a ficus ruby elastica be wiped?

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  10 місяців тому +1

      @@PlantNationMinh I assume that you just use a damp cloth? What about misting the leaves with water?

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  10 місяців тому +1

      @user-gz6me9ho6f
      I use sensitive baby wipes or alcohol wipes which will help get rid of pest more then a damp cloth. I use to mist but found it does nothing for humidity and more likely to cause fungal disease on the leaves. Ficus don't need high humidity to thrive they are very adaptable plants.
