    To this day the best, most feature rich motorized DJ controller I have ever had was the *Numark NS7II.* I've never understood why inMusic, after purchasing Numark, never made an NS7IV (The NS7III was just the digital Serato display bundled with the NS7II). I was so disappointed when my NS7II hit the Serato compatibility wall because Numark kinda abandoned it for whatever reason so no firmware updates/development. You can still use it with Serato, but your stuck on a deprecated version of Serato and can never update it or else lose connectivity to your NS7II. Like most, I tried to find the NS7 display to turn my NS7II into the NS7III which is still compatible with Serato (as of the typing of this comment) but I could not find it ANYWHERE without buying a second NS7II which I obviously didn't want to do. So I sold my NS7II for the Rane One. While I definitely like my Rane One, I still wish I had a new NS7 controller...

    It’s funny everyone loved the rane one till pioneer came out with a copy cat and now everyone hates on rane. DJs hop from one device to another every time someone says this is a game changer.

    I own the rane one, and it gets the job done almost 30yrs in this business, and i can rock out on anything. I have 1200s and also the rane 12s. I guess it depends on what type of dj you are. I need my tools good enough for me to rock my crowd, and that's it.

      I'm from the 80s when I was mixing and scratching on direct drive turntables so as far as moving platters, I can say I been there and done that, so now I'm considering the rev5 or Hercules t7

    The pitch fader in battle mode is non-sensical on a controller. It was all about tone arm clearance in turntables. Take away the tone arm & there's absolutely no reason to do it aside from novelty emulation. When Rane designed the Twelve & One, they had a pool of 100 hardcore turntablists. Early prototypes had the pitch in battle mode & majority of the turntablists they had in the Beta pool voted against it. They also had a mirrored layout on One protypes like the old Numark NS7 series & that was voted down as well. Reaching over the platter up top to pitch a song when you don't have to is stupid. Work flow wise, it makes zero sense either. Build quality wise, The One trumps them all. It feels as solid as a turntable. Rev 7 being the most expensive feels just as plastic as the T7 but I'd expect it from the T7 at it's price point.
    The mixer layout on the Rev 7 burns them all which is why they put the pitch battle style...so they can dedicate that real estate to the mixer Not for battle style nostalgia like folks think. If Rane was smart they'd revise the mixer layout on the next version of The One. 12inch Skinz has control discs & spindle adapter for The One which gives you another inch of real estate or 8" discs meant for the SC6000M which fit The One better & also gives you another inch of real estate.
    Once upon a time belt drive was a no go for DJ'ing but with the advent of all the portables, you have all the torque you need with no pitch drift. My only gripe with T7 are the faders, especially x-fader which has a horrible cut in time. All 3 soldered together on 1 board so If 1 fails then you need to swap them all. Thank God for Audio Innovate Innofader drop in replacement. $170 for all 3 faders which will last longer than the rest of the controller. Even with the additional fader investment, T7 is a great bang for the buck & I'd recommend it to anyone who prefers moving platters.

      In regards to it being silly to make a unit with the pitch control in battle mode, i'm so glad I've come across someone saying that, because I've thought the exact same thing, and I totally agree. It's as if pioneer thought they are doing something dj's want, when I'd of thought no it isn't!
      Dj's don't turn the turntable around because that's where they want the pitch, it's a case of that's just where the pitch happens to end up once they have turned it around. (and that as you say, they are actually turning it around to move the tone arm out of the way.)
      Because even though given the choice out of wether they want the pitch in its normal place or the tone arm out of the way, that it's the tone arm out of the way that is the primary choice, they probably aren't happy with the pitch being up the top either though, because of the fact they have to carefully reach right over the tone arm to get to it. Which risks the arm getting hit. And for anyone who beatmatches (myself included) it must also feel very un-natural to control the pitch horizontally instead of vertically.
      The ideal made vinyl turntable probably would of been a turntable in it's normal position, with the pitch in it's normal vertical position, but having the tone arm placed up the top. (like where it is in battle mode)

    • @osiris5315
      @osiris5315 5 місяців тому +1

      Yes! Battle-setup with the pitch horizontal on top is stupid.

    • @presise
      @presise 5 місяців тому

      Muscle memory and space is the reason. Most "Turntablist" who have the Rev 7 also have regular turntables ... in battle mode. So when they switch between systems they FEEL the same. Plus All turntable DJ set-ups are much wider than controllers so the further away the platter are from each other on a controller the more comfortable it FEELS. The Rev 7 platters are 2-3 inches further apart than the Rane so your right elbow is not sticking in you rib cage while trying to scratch. lol.

    Must give kudos to Hit Squad Djs for the excellent run down of how all 3 controllers compare. Clear st8 forward information . The Hercules deffo has the superior platter, plus it uses serato stems but no output connections for mics or notepads or USB where as The Rane 1 & T7 have all these options .So if you're going to record mixes then you hit to figure out the minimal options you must contend with .That's only issue that makes me hesitate before buying .

    For general DJ's (EDM) on a tight budget then sure...Hercules. But consider that it's plastic, won't last as long and will depreciate much quicker. If you have extra money get a 2nd hand Rane One IMO. Built like a tank, pro fader and proper case metal platters so good for a more turntablist feel. Plus is will probably hold value better. I vote Rane one because it's more classic and pro feeling. Rev 7 also over impeded and 'hot' signal but Rane One very smooth and warm sound.

    • @NoizTheDj
      @NoizTheDj 8 місяців тому +4

      That’s actually not true. These companies spend a lot of money developing their sound cards. If you’re a dj there is no need using an external mixer unless you’re providing sound for a band or need extra mics.

      @@drpoppinoffit's very good for Traktor excellent integration, it's also midi mappable so great for virtual DJ which has the best stems quality. Probably not the best for the locked down serato as pioneer and native instruments don't really share Hid mappings, but I personally think it would sit along side the Rane 1. also native instruments have some of the nicest studio fx around. Traktor pro 3 under £100 that includes dvs unlocked for the software. Serato...time to remortgage. Virtual DJ £299 lifetime pro license everything unlocked. Recordbox isn't mature enough yet to steer me away.
      Great breakdown of these units and useful info in this video, I just couldn't let the S4 Mark 3 get ghosted as it's a proper contender👍

      @@dtwistrewind7361 Traktor S4 MK3 is not build for vinyl turntables lovers / the 3 other controllers are hybrid made for DJs who like vinyl turntables.
      S4 MK3 motorised jog wheels have 4 major differences with the 3 other players
      - Build: one-piece jog on S4 MK3/ 3-pieces platters for the 3 other controllers : platter/slipmat/disc, to handle the disc separately from the platter,
      - Material: plastic body + metal top on S4 MK3 jog / metal platter + vinyl or acryl disc on the 3 other controllers
      - Size: 5"5 diameter on S4 MK3 / 8" diameter for the 3 other controllers to place a 7" disc on top,
      - Features: innovative motorised features on S4 MK3 jog as haptic feedback on cue point & loops / same feature as on turntables platters with the 3 other controllers
