I'm currently binging the series for the first time, at the beginning of season 4 now (RIP Merle man, I came to really like him near the very end when he was trying to redeem himself). As a first time viewer I honestly think it excels most when it's more character driven drama rather than horror survival when it shows more about people just trying to survive and the mind breaking struggles people would have to go through to stay breathing, since I think the whole "horror" atmosphere couldn't really stay too long without it feeling kind of forced. Just the opinion of a newcomer though lol

It was insanely intense. Every single time you hear the intro song starts, i was so happy af. Wishing i was there with them. At some point walking dead characters felt like family...in kidd u not, when they killed off glenn...i couldnt watch the show for several months. Glenns death was harder for me to take than carls death.

These kind of settings always get old pretty fast in my opinion, but the "zero hour" scenarios are super intense when no one knows what's going on yet and characters can still realisticly exist that aren't fit for survival at all and the groups have to make tough decisions. Great dramatic potential.
It might sound dumb to some people but hearing this tonight brought tears to my eyes. This show has been such a huge part of my life since 2010 and now it's ending. I still remember how excited I was back in 2010 when I found out there was going to be a TV show about zombies. I'd never heard of The Walking Dead before then and I was blown away when I watched the first episode; I thought it was the greatest thing ever. My favorite seasons were those early ones, seasons 1-5. Hearing this song now, and seeing that iconic image of Rick on that horse riding in to Atlanta ("Do not enter the city. It belongs to the dead now") brings back so many memories, of Glenn saving Rick, Amy at the camp, Jim under the tree, Hershel's farm, Sophia...endless memories, both in the show and in real life. Friends and family who were alive when this show started are no longer here and I miss them. I'll miss this show too.

the walking dead is one of the greatest tv shows I’ve ever watched. the reality and the meaning this show holds! the zombie apocalypse is just a backstory. it’s focusing on a group of people when they found themselves in a world where there’s only “die or survive” and the rules and the system doesn’t exist anymore to keep them save, and what they have to do to stay alive and together, what they can become, and dealing with all kinds of people, the good ones and the bad ones. and it has a great characters developments through the seasons. It’s just make me disappointed they didn’t stop renewing the show when it should be and lost it’s meaning.

I just got past Season 7 Episode 1. I have never been so emotionally destroyed by an episode of television in my life, I love this show!
I still remember when I heard this for the first time and was shitting my pants because of the walkers 😂
the walking dead is one of the greatest tv shows I’ve ever watched. the reality and the meaning this show holds! the zombie apocalypse is just a backstory. it’s focusing on a group of people when they found themselves in a world where there’s only “die or survive” and the rules and the system doesn’t exist anymore to keep them save, and what they have to do to stay alive and together, what they can become, and dealing with all kinds of people, the good ones and the bad ones. and it has a great characters developments through the seasons. It’s just make me disappointed they didn’t stop renewing the show when it should be and lost it’s meaning.
