I understand this on a different level. I'm mexican. or Latina or Hispanic. or colored. and my mom is from an unpronouncable town somewhere in Mexico. I spoke spanish to my grandmother as a child and translated to foreigners. now my grandma speaks broken english because I cannot remember my native tongue. I am a Chicano. not worthy enough to be called mexican by my primos. too white for my family too brown for my friends.
