  • Here is a video clip of my deaf husband Steve communicating with our hearing children 3y.o & 2y.o at the dinner table. We try to nurture voice off / sign language conversations at dinner time to develop Auslan vocabulary & grammar skills in our kids. This is especially helpful to us on daycare days when the kids come home very vocal!

That kid's got a lot of expression. He'll be able to show and tell at school - with a difference.

Lol he is! That's a great observation. He came home with a school certificate the other day rewarding him for his confidence to show & tell in class - sign language! He's getting very expressive now. A native signer indeed.

Hi Wesley, glad you loved this video clip. I must provide more soon. Yes its amazing how much little kids can pick up in languages. He's now practising lots of Auslan Grammar & doing great at it! Thanks for your sharing your comments. :)

Hi Lisa, this video is so beautiful to see. Love that Dianne shared it with me. So lovely to see my brother being an amazing father, he shares many mannerisms with his Dad. I hope you are all well & happy. I miss Steven dearly. Please pass on my love to him xo

Ah, gorgeous Lotus. "Stop being mean to Daddy!" (or was she telling Dad to stop?). Nonetheless, this is a really valuable video depicting authentic Auslan use in the home that I'll be showing my Auslan students. Cheers.

Grace Cortier he’s deaf yes. And when kids are sad he’s fine about it. Kids are bilingual & always adapt their communication for us. 😊
