Tools, supplies, lures, art.. anything!
If you made it with your hands, and it's okay with you, I'd like to show your work and shout you out in a video too.
Hey! My wife, kids and I make a habit of watching every episode you put out. Not sure why, but my daughter's Emma and Ruby have constantly said you should make a "bunny bait" ever since we first started watching (back around the Hornet and duck videos). Maybe you could do that around Easter time?
Thanks for all of the amazing content. I love that my daughters are so interested in wood working because of you. God bless!
That would be funny and awesome I know this is old but awesome idea
yessss a bunny for Easter haha gold
I would use it for musky fishing! I'll bet I could get one to eat it if it was a topwater bait and about 6-8 inches long. Lol
Yet another EXCEPTIONAL piece! I love how's he's working with something so small and yet it looks so realistic and perfect! Marling really is truly talented!!!!!!
I'm dyslexic and that bit was the funniest freaking thing 😂
I do second the frog bait !!! Those tiny peepers like size of thumb nail ! Great trout bait I notice them jumping in water and trout fight each other too get to the frog first!
I have never been so distracted as I was at 24:00 😂😂
Working with wood that's so soft and light it's amazing that you're even able to to hold and work with it without it breaking or falling apart. That's talent brother!
Channels like this make me want to start another account so I can like these videos twice. Thanks to you I killed a lot of winter boredom reviving old lures. I can't wait to get into lure making myself. Any suggestions on beginner carving tools would be well appreciated.
Somehow I still find old videos I havent seen before and every single time you're a real pal. Wish I coulda gone out with you down in pensacola when I was stationed there. Good work
Can you make a video where you are making a rod?
Yeah that will be awesome
I would watch that.
Yea for the wood reel. Maybe he would consider making a bamboo rod that works with it.
He did a reel
Man he should make a reel
Can you make an alaskan bull worm lure??
Yes
IT'S BIG AND PINK
Nobody:
24:00 : chip playing with his tail as you talk about the new lure.
Chips the real talent here.
I seen that also lol Chip is one of a kind!
Chips so awesome
Honestly i think mosquitos should go extinct
lol R1Ck1
If they did, thousands of species of fish, bats, birds, and other wildlife would be thoroughly pressured for food, or even go extinct
@@RobbyGAMEZ hot damn, talk about necessary evils. Such is the way of many nuances.
Well he did his part by getting rid of one...... lol too soon?
@@RobbyGAMEZ wouldn't they evolve tho? I thought it might shock the system at first but then evolve , well I guess that does entail loosing alot until then
Drake Wilcox Mosquitoes are a massive part of the ecosystem. They make up a huge biomass, and bats, birds, frogs, and all manner of small creatures rely on them, sometimes solely mosquitoes, for food. They are also responsible for pollinating thousands of species of plant from Siberia to Chile. There are 3500+ species of mosquito but only about 100 bite animals. The rest are entirely herbivorous and are a big part of the life cycle of many plants. There is absolutely no good reason for these animals to go extinct. Life doesn’t begin or end. It’s an ongoing and continuous **process** and not a series of individual sparks. Mosquitoes play an extremely important role in keeping that process going.
Me and my 9 year old daughter watch your videos as we go to sleep. We may never make lures but she is fascinated with making things. Awesome channel and keep it up. We're watching.
It sucks losing something you worked so hard on. I remember my first lure, it was simply squirrel tail hair tied on a small hook and I caught a bunch of bream and rock bass first time out then I saw this huge bass beside a log and dropped it down beside it not thinking it would take it and in a flash it did and snapped my line taking my master piece I was so upset then thought....wait.... I’ve got 30 squirrel tails and a box of hooks.. 😂
I getting to where I look forward to your next video to see Chip as much as what lure you’re making next 😜
Spoiler alert.....
You don't only learn lure making,..you also learn about the type of lure & the type of creature,(fun facts)..& some randomness with humor..I like your style sir..🤙
Ive been watching your videos a couple years and don't really comment much but your are a bad man , really really good at what you do
You’ve inspired me to attempt at making a mouse top water bait, thanks for posting all this fantastic information and the techniques you use. The knowledge is priceless.
🤣🤣you should do a spoof video talking like Bob Ross whole time!!!
Hello can you make a realistic frog lure ? :)
Ohhh... And you my favorit youtuber...
A frog would be really cool
yep do this👍
Leu meus pensamentos
Ja genau nen Frosch
Hey a German guy (me 16) watch you 😁
@@Adcash00 hello im from hungary 😂
I think you should open an online store... I would buy your baits even if I live in Italy and I would have to pay a lot of shipping.
Sorry for my English
Your English is better than some of us Americans. We abuse the language. Lol
🤣🤣
Your English is just fine;)
Leonardo Silvestri same here 👍🏻👍🏻
It's called a proboscis. That little thing that sticking out of the mosquito. I've only known that for about five years but someone told me what it was and I never forgot and you just made me remember thanks have a good'n
You have neat ideas for lures. Turned out great. A salamander might be a cool one to do since there's so many different sizes and colors of them.
A salamander lure would be really cool, and bass love them
Is it odd I just thumbs up your videos before even watching them?
Love your content bro, keep up the great work!
The best part of this video; his dog playing with its tail minutes before the end of the video while he was talking about the loss of the mosquito lure
Just found you and have binged most of your vids. So relaxing and interesting. You’re an amazing craftsman. Got me stoked to fish again. Love to see more trout stuff. Mosquito was incredible and a heartbreaker to know you lost it. Keep up great work!
Dude, I’m not going to make lures, but I enjoy your videos. Man you are a sculptor, they look so realistic.
I like how chip is going at it with his tail
I really have enjoyed your videos since I found them, I have watched every one of them I can find! Your attention to detail is astounding and they all look awesome! You truly are good at what you do! Thanks for putting these videos out for Others to enjoy. I don’t think I would have the patience for it but would love to try some day! Have a good one bud!
Oh man sorry about your lost lure... huge kudos on your choice of reel though... I've almost got the full run of the president.. I love them.
great job, very creative with the wings. i dig it
So happy u doing trout stuff love it!!!!
Your my favorite camera dude, don’t doubt yourself
You should get a hemostat for holding and dipping tiny pieces like this. It would be super handy.
The jump from your forced enthusiasm at the start of fun facts to you actually saying them was a rollercoaster ride; and I loved it.
Amazing work i cringed when you said you had lost it and am amazed you were as calm as you were. Now on to the next bait , and my suggestion is a top water moth lure with spinning wings like two paddle wheels lots of action to catch them fish.
I like Chip he looks like a fun dog.
Watching this video while washing dishes and just heard "tramp stamp"?. The fishing licensing in your area is pretty hard-core :D the seasonal pass is a tribal tattoo across your face
Give that Pup a hug.
My man you need that catfish swimbait
I second this
I third this
I fourth this
I fifth this
I sixth this
Your dog chasing his tail was hilarious
Trout are not dumb fish at all. As a result you need to use Fluorocarbon line (disappears in the water) around 6 lbs and you must hide the hook with some trout bait like Berkley Powerbait Extra Scent Trout Bait. Trout also like sweet corn so to save some $ you can put 1 kernel on the hook to hide it. Hope you get it working!
Is it just me or is his voice soothing...?
I live in South Africa and yes, there are a lot of mosquitoes here. Really annoying.
Wow that's bad luck after such great and intricate work.
How about a top water grasshopper?
Just a heads up in case it matters to anyone, but the "synthetic feathers" are just dyed turkey feathers. Nylon simulated feathers are really obvious up close like that. They are packaged and labeled as "synthetic" or "faux" feathers because they can be trimmed, dyed, or otherwise manipulated to look different from natural. Don't worry, no birds were harmed to get the feathers... they were already slaughtered for deli meat. If anyone is looking for actual fake feathers, make sure they are labeled as being made of nylon or polyester.
I only mention because the creator seemed confused as to the difference. Not surprising since I just spent an hour on google making sure, and there is no disambiguation between the two. I couldn't even find a good photo reference of the plastic ones that weren't on an arrow. They do exist, I've seen 'em and they look horrible up close.
Been a sub since the start man, that mosquito was one of my fav! Maybe you could make a Southern Bluefin Lure and I will fish it for you when my boat has been rebuilt!
Well..was cool while it lasted. Ever make any walleye jigs? Or jig bodies?
im wondering if you ever plan on building a bamboo rod to match the wooden reel.... hmmm
Very nice job!
Such a Shame that this happened to your Lure.
Once again, a Magnificent Made Lure !!
Inspiring Stuff watching your craft unfold !!
Thanks
I am a tie flyer. Don't even fish conventional gear, not gonna start making lures. Still love these vids.
Nate I want it I want it ! Thats really awesome! Sorry you lost it that ls crappy man .Wouldnt that be cool though if that thing ended up hundreds of miles away and someone contacted you. I still want that bumble bee lure though nate lol
The dog in the back at 24:10 😂😂😂
When you get into the fun facts and since people called you monotone you try to be peppy, it cracked me up so much, I was crying😂‼️
Antibiotic kill bacteria, they don’t kill viruses or fungi, just wanted to clarify. Love your videos!
What about carving a traditional salmon fly from wood, something like a Durham Ranger. The paint job would be pretty intricate. I'd like to see if it would work to catch other fish. Excellent video :)
For a second there I thought you said tramp stamp ! HOLY CRAP I JUST HAD A LIGHT BULB EXPLOSION! IN MY HEAD !!!!! You need some of those lick and stick tattoos with your dueling treble hooks logo !!!!!
I know how it feels to loose a lure, especially one I really like or costly. But one I spent time and effort on, I can only imagine how you're feeling.🙈 it's going to happen from time to time Nate, would be nice to see someone find it and send you a pic or return. 👍 oh well onto the next bait. 🐵
Mosquitos need fresh water. Iceland has mostly saltwater.
John Borno And most of the freshwater is flowing streams. They need stagnant water.
Mosquitos are in both fresh and salt water
@@joshkennish3186 you are eight. But not for all species. The biggest reason seem to be fast changing climate conditions that are typical for iceland which reduce the chances for surviving
@@johnborno5497 lmao i thought u called him an 8y/o took me a sec to realize the typo. lol
Take a look at a map of Iceland. Plenty of freshwater; running and stagnant. The reason for the lack of mosquitos is the sudden change of temperature in winter. It can go from freezing temperatures to a thaw, and back to frost, all in a matter of days, throughout the whole winter, which means that the mosquito doesn't have time to go through its lifecycle and thus can't take root.
For mosquitos and wasp type lures i think you should cast up the stream and let the current take it down. Thats just what i see the bugs do in my stream
We have the black and white ones in Florida, and probably a 1000 other species lol
Like my third time watching this one. Definitely think you should make a floating ve4sion of this lure be interesting to see tou revisit some of the lures you've made in the past and remake them now and see if you can make them better or if you do anything different etc.
"you want a trout stamp?" lol 🤣
The black mosquitoes with the white joints on their legs are called tiger mosquitoes.
Looks like a mosquito had a baby with a wasp with that hook lol
Cool piece man !!!
ya dyslexic sucks but your good I know what you meant because I have it love your videos and keep making them
Oh HELL No!! There is no way I would've lost my lure, especially a beautiful lure like that. I've been stationed all over the world, I've gone after my lures from alligator infested waters, jumping into the Columbus river in December, the Swuanne river in Florida after a rainstorm, and not even giving it a second thought! It's not until I've gotten back on land that I've realized how stupid that was, but till this day I've not lost (knock on wood) any good looking lure like that and I've got handcrafted lures from Japan when I was stationed over there. I don't just collect, I actually use them to my brother in-laws disbelief. I almost lost one when I was stationed in San Antonio,TX. I can't remember the name of the canal I was fishing at with my neighbor, but a damned Alligator gar took my mullet looking lure 3 feet from shore ,I jumped on that scary ass dinosaur along with my neighbor, as he sank his knife into it's head. Needless to say it didn't get away, we ate for months on that 187 pound monster, and I swear it tasted like mahi mahi. Will I ever do that again, HELL NO❗I'll probably cry ah little 😞,and give it an out to sea funeral😢. I won't send my wife on a vacation, she's stuck with me till we're old as hell. Your lures are🙏 magical, don't ever stop.
I love your channel man. Keep it up !
I’m sorry dude, that ending hurt. But great job man!
I am watching this while itching my mosquito bites
one time use
ok use 6lbs test fishing line 5 to 6 feet in length from main line from a bobber on main line, thus fly fishing, you can also go lighter in fishing line if you run a lighter weight bait , or lore that looks so real wow good job as long as the bait or lore floats
24:00 Chip wants you to make a lure of his tail
Great work 👍
**Sigh** "Not gonna tie flies." U gotta try fly fishing man.
hey the wooden fly thing is still rly cool tho
Casting is so full of skill, its a talent
Put a rubber band over the pliers when you are dipping. That way if you let go of the handles on accident, it won't fall out.
Wouldn't mosquito baits work best during summer & fall when the mosquitos are thick as thieves. Oh yeah I found your mosquito lure, it was floating in the gulf of Mexico. Haha just kidding but I'll keep an eye out for it. Tight lines.
I had no idea you were from Iowa when you said cedar river I looked at the Description and seen your only 30 mins from me. That’s kinda cool keep up the good content
Same here
If I got a Dollar for every lure I lost, I'd be a millionaire. Lost two this morning. Awesome lure you made by the way. Looked good. That's the Arkansas state bird. LOL
The worst thing about this bait is how realistic it is because I've seen mosquitos bigger than this when I visit the beach.
Really good content Sir!!!
I've been to iceland and I think the lack of mosquitoes is due to the fresh water around being fast running and glacial, with a lot of hot and mineral filled springs which I doubt are a good place for baby mosquitoes to live. There are unfortunately small midges however...
There's plenty of stagnant water in Iceland where mosquitos could thrive, just like the midges you mention. Our neighbour to the north, Greenland, has plenty of mosquitos, even though most if not all of their water is glacial. The reason for the lack of mosquitos in Iceland is the sudden change of temperature in winter. It can go from freezing temperatures to a thaw, and back to frost, all in a matter of days, throughout the whole winter, which means that the mosquito doesn't have time to go through its lifecycle and thus can't take root.
I been watching you about 2 1/2 years and still you amaze me how you come up with ideas on how to make things for example the wings on this video just amazing
You should make a multi jointed caterpillar
Keep up the good work💯
It’s ok. I hope someone finds it. Still A+ content. 😜
Great work! Any Q&A in the future?
I like that.
Lol, I was watching the Video and you went fishing and I was like ....WTF that’s McCloud Run. I live in Marion and grew up in Rolling Green on the SW side of CR
It's strange that at the 2 minute mark of the video I started thinking to myself "I wonder if he's ever lost one..." Sucks that ya lost it, man. For your next lure, try something like a tadpole, mayfly, or nymph. I like this idea of micro lures. Best of luck to you man, one of my fave producers. If you ever find yourself in the South, I've got a 30 acre lake in Alabama stocked with massive (1.5+ lb) bluegill, and my personal best bass (12.8). You'd be more than welcome.
Bro omg u the best your vids is life
Make an Salmon or Trout Roe plastic/bead.... also an Larvae or WaxWorm lure
Marling Baits 🔥🔥
As a professional tattoo artist and graphic designer , the comment of moving your brush around makes you look like an artist ,made me bust out in laughter lol
That was a cool bait though.
Wow 2 years ago already I remember when this came out still one of my favorite lures you’ve created
The fibers on the feathers are called biots. Pronounced by ott. Fun fact....
A tiny human lure..with flopping legs and hands... :D
tyler childers yessss
You should do a musky bucktail
You should make a video with you showing all of your lose you've made
IT's posible that you Show how to make a Replikation from a rubber lure? The molde etc...that's intresting
