@@hwdold It's not hackable until someone is able to design a modchip, since the switch has had patched models since 2018
@@hwdold since team xecuter's arrest modchips are nowhere to be seen. Now new ones are coming out but they go for 100 bucks each
@@hwdold I wouldn't expect that. I'm pretty sure the PCB design and maybe the chipset will NOT support the current SX Core implementation. And forget about a hardware revision, Xecuter support for switch is basically suspendend until further notice.
@@orlandofurioso7329 that's 2-3 switch games. It' still way cheaper than buying games and DLCs
@@moralesnery Indeed, it's worth it for piracy but not for homebrew for the price imo.
Personally, I wanted LAN on the Switch and I was trying to come up with a way to spend $350 instead of $10 for an adapter.
What a deal!
I feel it's worth noting this is more of a Switch XL than a Switch Pro.
Thing is people have been setting themselves up for disappointment by following rumor/leak culture for around 3 to 4 years. This is just a gba sp or 3ds xl. Same specs but newer and spiffier looking with minor improvments.
It's a switch revision that's for sure
Not even that. This is more like the GBA SP than an XL.

@Tano L for Loss :D
"32GB in 2021 doesn't cut it anymore."
And 64 does? My 128GB is filled up as it is.
Exactly. My phone is rare and has 2TB of storage (including external storage) and you guessed it... I want *MORE SPACE!*
@@VariantAEC I'm on the other side of the coin to you, I have only 128gb on my phone, no PC or any computer and I have about 40 gb used on my ph including the os and I don't have any plans to use the rest of the space.
TLDR: Different strokes for different folks.
@@sleazymeezy Phone vs dedicated game system.
Switch games are bigger than the average phone app. On average you'll get a game that's 10~GB, 10-9 games and your 128GB card is full.
@@Essu_ i have a major problem then *looks at steam and GOG library breaking 12TB* I need more drives Gaben keeps making thing go on sale.
@@sleazymeezy it's not "different strokes for different folks" phone apps rarely if ever go into 10GB of storage, only really if you have an sort of download manager and it stores it as the app files.
While the Switch, an dedicated gaming console, games easily break the 10GB, hell, had to jump through hoops and then some to get Rocket League and Fortnite installed for my little brothers at the same time, especially when either wants an update. (Fortnite on switch base is 11.5GB, this is excluding all the updates and Rocket League is another 11GB excluding updates, they can barely coexist on the internal storage, now they can, but forget about downloading more games, because 64GB isn't enough, my phone has more storage space and I rarely get close to that and I download game apps all the time.
Finally I can see my games struggling to run in even brighter and crisper colors.
This. Games like Xenoblade 2 will look even crappier in this big screen.
Best comment of the day 😂 🤣
imo switch is best for simple games

2 TB would be awesome!
So the "new" switch is Malibu Stacy with a new hat?
But she's got a new hat!
New hat, slightly different mold which uses a bit more plastic (OLED display and more extra storage) and an extra accessory (built in ethernet port), but that’s it.
A more blatant example of new hat is the Animal Crossing New Horizons edition of the switch. It doesn’t even come with the game. And yeah, I admit that I was a sucker to buy it because of my love for the Animal Crossing franchise. But to be fair, I don’t own a switch before that, I knew this switch was coming, and I held off buying one until this one got released. And yeah, I’ve heard rumors of the pro but ignored it.
Hmm, I wonder if you can convert old switches to use the new screen and plates.
@@no_4259 From what I have seen, possibly. The backplate should in theory be swappable, though the size would be wrong.
The addition of an OLED would make more sense for the _Lite_ instead since it's a dedicated handheld, whereas this is typically used in docked mode more.
I use the switch exclusively in handheld mode and its an og model. You cant base it on your use case only.
@@zubochonk9205 It sounds like you're doing the same thing (basing on your use case) but via polls etc it gets used more docked by owners.

@@iyeetsecurity922 nope my point is handheld will be used by someone like me. There is you and me so on my sample 50 percent will use it via handheld even if its dockable. Don't give them ideas for a 50$ price hike on the Lite...

Nintendo took a good look at Apple's business model.
only if you have “everything I don’t like is the same” blinders on
No
@Hen Yeah, Apple just wait a long time to do certain upgrades like when they had a broken keyboard design on their laptops for about 5 years before kind of fixing it.
I fully expected Nintendo to disappoint me, and I wasn't disappointed.
Right lmao...
This new model is actually not much of an upgrade. 720p on a larger screen is going to look worse. That's just facts, due to pixel density.
Also, even if you buy a $1200 smartphone with a state of the art OLED, the screens are trash after a few years of use. They show image retention quite often. People can reply with their story of how your phone is " going 5 years! And it looks perfect! I use it all the time!"... That's great for the lucky few. Every single OLED phone I have owned had burn and image retention over a 2-3 year span and I don't even game on my phone's. I watch UA-cam and message people.
I would avoid this at all costs personally... Also, these are just my OPINIONS... Each to their own and all that.
🤣
This resonates in so many levels.
Exactly...
@@pennywisethedancingclown7139 actually that explains it. Do you watch UA-cam in portrait alot to check comments. If so, That is why.
I’m pretty sure the only reason they’re even releasing the OLED model is because the screens might literally be cheaper than the ones they’re currently using.
Probably both the new memory and screen are just more readily available. The original hw is so old they can’t even source it anymore. And they announce it like some amazing new thing.
If that was the case, I would have expected this to replace the current switch. If they discontinue the Redbox Mariko hac-01-01 in a few months as supply runs out, then it's likely. I've heard the OLED used is extremely cheap, but only relative to other OLED panels, there's still a huge market for 5-7 inch ips 720p displays for use with raspi devices and such, and unless they chose really poorly on what nand to get, devices with 32gb and under aren't going away, they've been exploding for years especially thanks to the rise of the middle class in china and India, making the smartphone a necessity for life in urban areas there. There's a huge market for budget smartphones in India and china, and still a very sizable one everywhere else. I do think their suppliers could be raising prices due to lower volumes on certain orders of items from others besides Nintendo, in which case, it's going to be launch OLED, let current stock of Mariko hac-01-01 run out, discontinue it. I think it's more likely this is a stop gap until late 2022/2023 when we'll see a revision more in line with what more here are looking for.
@@dan_loeb In a way, it is a replacement for the current switch. Since it's the same 16nm SoC with a new display.
@@dondraper4438 but they haven't discontinued the main switch yet, and the price point disparity makes that a bit troublesome to do.
I don't remember details, but I believe they're going to have to stop making the current switch model at some point due to either increases of the price of certain parts or certain parts no longer being manufactured...
Great for new buyers! Pass for existing.
Unless this phases out the Lite which I doubt, how many people are going to see the Lite for $199 and the $350 version that while yes has a better screen will actually care that much to spend the extra $150? If parents have the choice come Christmas time guess where they’re going?

i think the move is keep both models @ $300 and $350 for now. when/if the switch pro comes out, discontinue the old switch & give a price cut on the OLED one

Guys, this is nintendo's version of "pro". This is not just a revision, as many claim, because if that were the case it would still cost 300$. You can clearly see at the end of the video that Nintendo presents it's basic switch, oled, and lite. So they have the premium option, the standard, and the low cost one. This is their premium switch, and in my opinion, they could've done better.
There will be no switch pro, not for a long time anyway. Any dream of playing breath of the wild without stutters is destroyed.
No, it's not. This is not their pro model. This is simply a new model with a better screen. The screen is better, so they charge more. If you buy a better TV with a better screen, does that cost more than the lesser TV model? Yes. So why do you think this would be any different?
If Nintendo was going to make a Pro model, it would have been $450, not $350. BTW, Nintendo should not make a Switch Pro ever. Make a proper Switch 2, not something hamstrung by older hardware that then also results in less effort and worse OG Switch games.
But why leave money on the table?
If Nintendo operated like that, the 3DS line would've stopped with only the 3DS, 3DS XL, and 2DS on the market, and the DS line would've stopped at the DSi

I was just about to say, this type of revision is about 2 years too late. Really not nearly enough of an improvement to really seem worthwhile. I also highly doubt this Is going to sell particularly well compared to the other two versions. People who already own a Switch are almost definitely just gonna ignore this because a lot of people just have the thing docked all the time anyway, so the OLED aspect isn't really that great when your talking about a 720p display in undocked mode. @@XavierZara imagine if the switch didnt have joycons but had the sticks and buttons hardwired in..
They joycon drift wouldn't exist and you can still dock and use a pro controller....
i don't think there's an effective way to fix it versus just offering free replacements. nobody makes potentiometers that are suitable that don't drift over time. i think in nintendo's opinion, it's better to replace it for free than have to raise the prices of the joycons, which are already way too expensive. I'm not saying I agree with nintendo, but all potentiometers will drift when contaminants and micro-particles are introduced, and it's unavoidable, especially with a portable device. ps vita had drift issues too if you ran it long enough, psp and 3ds use a different type of analog, that is actually far better for a portable device, while far less ergonomic. a slide pad joycon might be the only cost-effective fix here, since the alternative is building a joycon far larger with optical analog sticks or some other antiquated non-potentiometer solution. a lot of people say it's something about soft carbon on resistive pads, but that's never been proven, and used controllers that don't drift show the same wear marks. it's a part of normal operation. it's exacerbated by the size of the joycon stick and how it travels around. also, it's far more common in the left joycon, the one used for movement in most games, the one you hold at full tilt for longer periods of time, meaning higher chance of particulates getting inside. if this was a simple fix, it would have been done many years ago.
I've been holding back buying one. That processor is just not attractive.
It's sooooo oldddddddddd

@@JobeStroud it can, but oled is better with higher pixel counts
It's definitely not worth if unless you don't have a switch or your switch is at death's door.

Of course it's gonna be disappointing when you believe all that "insider info" that promised nothing less than a handheld Xbox One X.
I doubt that they hyped themselves up, it's more like people are tired of playing a potato that can't handle it's own games and need something better so they can actually enjoy the more demanding games.
Totally underwhelming, this new model... for someone who has a switch already at least.
For new user, oled screen, good kickstand, lan port and 64gb internal for 50$ is a no-brainer.
Why put out switch pro and make normal switch come down in price when they are still flying off shelves? I think this is a good strategy.
cause the switch was outdated by 2 years when it dropped and its super underpowered. the only thing that runs good are nintendos own games. and even those arent new anymore .
@@findantu I think Nintendo is currently making good revenue from each Switch due to streamlined production. Each switch used to cost roughly 250$ to make. Factor in ads and sure enough they were selling it at a lost.
A new processor would surely have a widely different production line than just putting in new screen, new shell.
And switch is still selling nicely at 300$. There is no benefit for Nin to make a better performance switch.

1. A 720p OLED screen wont look good especialy when the screen is 7"
2. Increasing the storage to 64GB is useless because you will still need a micro SD card
3.Yeah the new kickstand is pretty cool
@@CreatorPolar To each their own. Personally:
1. Not as good as my S20 but i think it might be better than normal Switch and Vita.
2. I mostly play physical Nin exclusive games and smaller indie games, so odds are i might be fine with 64gb. For normal new folks, i'd think it might take a bit before they hit the 50gb mark.
3. Surface stand is dream come true, lol.
I just find it super disappointing. Yeah a slightly bigger OLED screen is cool and all but in handheld you're still gonna get 504p not the full 720p. There's no point if they're not gonna upgrade the hardware by even a small amount. The lack of bigger joycons is also pretty disappointing considering my hands can get cramped after a while of playing in handheld, where I don't want to resort to a controller
And a bigger stand/ethernet port? Those should have been a part of the Switch from day one so no excuses for those. Don't forget they haven't talked about a joycon drift fix or 4K output either
Yeah The joycon drift is why I refuse to buy a switch to this day. If buy something from Nintendo i expect it to be durable enough to hold up to years of daily play easily my n64 did and my wii did
The fact that they haven't fixed it completely yet is unacceptable to me
It's kind of hilarious that the original Switch didn't already have a lan port. They made me Google it.

But nope, have 64gb, not even phones nowadays have that little storage.
Crazy how you, Nate, and John from DF, nailed the console by being an XL 3 months ago.
Or is it?
Not to sound like a party pooper but this will teach people to temper their expectations and for me, it is not worth the extra £80 for an upgraded screen, the Vita had OLED straightaway haha
Nintendo is awesome
Cant really compare. To a person who wants to play games in 2021, you'd have to buy a several year old used Vita that may have issues and hard to find physical hardware (with guarentee of no support going forward), or you can buy a switch OLED. Also, its not an extra 80 bucks to upgrade, for enthusiasts like us who watch MVG its probably sell the old switch, get the new (or just get the new and buy a whole system). I dont think its worth upgrading unless you play portably a lot at home
If it came with 256GB of storage I would consider it worth it. Preferably PCI express storage so we could get super fast load times.
Well here's the thing, the Switch really never needed OLED. The Switch has been fine without it, and it's just better with it. The Switch always has been, and always will be, much better than the PS Vita
@@clothinghanger6978 The vita basically paved the way for the Switch. If anything today just proves the vita was ahead of it’s time with this news.

I rather have software improvements like themes, folders, better online and more nintendo online games (like gba, gamecube etc). Then a better screen and an ethernet port.
Charging $349 for this "upgrade" 4 1/2 years later is nothing short of insulting. Only a company like Nintendo could get away with this sort of robbery so unscathed. No one would argue the business sense of it, it's the consumer-friendliness that is in question here, of which there is none. It's not just that this isn't a Switch Pro, it's that this is coming after the Lite and in absence of anything Pro-like. This is the most Nintendo thing I've ever seen.
At least there’s some nice tweaks. Ethernet, a way better stand, more storage and improved speakers in addition to the obvious new OLED display.
Not enough to justify the new release.
Should have been the original release from day 1. To be honest. This just proves that the vita was ahead of it’s time as well…

"It doesn't make sense?" Why? How many reviews for recent Switch titles specifically reference low frame rates and performance struggles? The Switch is a rebranded Shield from 2015, how could it NOT need a revision like last year? Even "Link to the Past" has frame drops!
Let me guess you don’t understand that the SNES app is faithfully emulating that system and you blame the Switch for slowdown that was always present on actual SNES hardware?
We don’t need new hardware, just better developers optimizing the games :))

I'm not going to deny OLED looks good, but I was actually pretty excited for mini LED. Plus, OLED 720p, eesh.
Yeah, oled will be a lower effective resolution (RGB oled screen are rare).
Also after ~5 years the oled screen will turn yellow and have permanent image ghosting
You just can't beat Oled for contrast ratio. I test drove a mini LED for a couple weeks earlier this year and ended up going with the oled. Oled has come a long way in the past few years in terms of longevity as well, well as long as nintendo includes the screen saver features that manufacturers like LG have been using. (Maybe a bit doubtful XD)
@@Mitchlett I respect that, but I never been a fan of OLED myself. I had the OLED Vita before pawning it off. Keep in mind, I'm a casual so the difference isn't the same to me. I love your content MVG, but there was really nothing to talk about here. It's literally a standard 4 year old switch with a slightly larger OLED screen, double storage and a LAN port on the dock with an added price tag. Storage and LAN port is a bit of a moot topic. Large SD cards at a low cost are a thing and a good AC connection is fine enough for online Switch play.
Nintendo did the bare minimum, and it'll still sell a lot, unbelievable.
This is a biggest nothing announcement ever. It's like watching people being "excited" about the PS4 slim. It adds nothing, but it serves to spot fanboys from normal people.
Agreed, though at least the slim did fix the glaring heat/fan noise issues the original had.
The ps4 slim was actually an improvent from the ps4:
It doesnt sound like a jet engine
It removed the annoying glossy paint
You could also get a 1TB model
It was priced cheaper than the normal ps4
It's more like people being excited about the PS4 slim if there was a ton of baseless speculation beforehand that SONY was making a "super omega PS4 that will do 8k 144 FPS" being thrown around by every youtuber and "news" site starved for clicks.
(Strange how you don't see SONY or Xbox fans making completely random and baseless guesses about the next console being this insanely overpowered machine that has 0 credible evidence to it's existence...I think it says more about nintendo's underpowered hardware and how desperate their fans are for a decently powerful system than anything.)
@Nobody comments are not funny you troglodyte To be fair to Sony, a PC with similar performance to the PS5 would be far more expensive

Honestly, this revision shows one of the strengths of the switch, its modularity. They probably just swaped the internal storage eMMC without altering the motherboard and the LAN adapter is just the official LAN adapter connected directly to the USB port in the dock's daughterboard (that's why the dock has 1 less USB port).
I wonder if the eMMC chips are swapable beetween switch models for no other reason than "we can do it"
I'm picking one up. My launch model has a loud fan and a cracked back plate, plus the battery is starting to show its age. This will be a nice upgrade.
