In the last video we filmed before the long Sydney lockdown, we compare the GV80 3.0D Luxury with the Audi Q7 55 TFSI S Line. OK, so one is petrol and one is diesel, but we gotta work with what we got! Either way, enjoy this snow-filled Q7 vs GV80 comparison.

I'm a hardcore German cars fan, but I must admit, interior of GV80 looks much much better!
And the exterior
I recently test-drove both and I still think the Audi is a better car. The interior of the Genesis instantly made me feel older than I am. It is what I call “old people” luxury.” I am not ready for that yet.
My accountant compared these two against my bank account and the review wasnt great.

Q7 - how unappealing with navy colour, black interior and acres of piano black. It's like being in a darkened cave and doesn't compare with the plush looking GV80 in tan and navy.
Third row Isofix and Anchor points for child seats on the Q7 was a major consideration for us. It allowed us to free up a second row seat occasionally for an adult by banishing one or two kids to the very back. 3rd row anchors are not fitted in the GV80, X5, GLE, XC90, so that kinda ruled out the competition for us. Another consideration is the Genesis’ fixed price sale model. Some may hate negotiation, but there’s often big margin for negotiation with the established German trios. Our Q7 was on the road at less than the RRP, and had 5 years factory warranty and servicing included - and it was an ordered car, and not a stock vehicle sitting on the lot.

Terrific review Tom, and both cars look terrific. As much as I'd be more than happy with an Audi, there's something unique and very appealing about the Genisis so I think I would still be drawn to that a bit more.
I was the same way James until I drove them. The GV80 is the shiny new kid on the block. And they have to be to get people's attention but when I test drove the 21 Q7 the next day, I was sold! The ride quality is through the roof and the virtual cockpit along with the other 2 haptic touch screens and Bang & Olsen sound system... it really set the car apart.
Great review and I agree with the conclusions. Interesting that the current European petrols are more than a match for diesels both in refinement and economy. Genesis have now decided to drop the diesel G80 and I think petrol is fast overtaking the normal default choice of diesel for this size SUV.
Definitely prefer the lighter and brighter interior for me. And the drifting snow is just beautiful.
Great honest review! I don't understand why that Audi 55 didn't have properly ventilated seats. I have the exact same color scheme version in the 21' Q7 but mine is a 45 tdi with Executive Package. It has heated and cooled front seats and heated back seats at only 65k so I hit the jackpot 😚.. 2 great cars though
I was actually expecting a genesis upset, but I’m impressed how Audi still held up.
Q7 is good, especially as a 55 TFSI
My best friend purchased the GV80 and I had a little bit of buyers remorse due to the luxurious cabin compared to the the refined cabin look of the Q7. But I will have to say after driving it for 5k miles, I'm really impressed with all the features in my Audi. The ride is divine and the massage seats are quite nice. Driving at night the cabin and mid seats has an opulent feel. Overall I would choose Audi again, but a second generation of the GV80, will get considerable consideration.
Audis are the masters of grey interiors. 150k for the Audi vs 120k for the Genesis that's a big difference. Good review Tom but looks like your freezing your butt off! 😅
Just bought a Q7 as we had a requirement for 7 seats and ability to tow 3.5T. Didn't need a full 4WD either and preferred the finishes in the Audi over a Patrol or Land Cruiser. IMO.

Still prefer Audi exterior styling, it's aged very well. Genesis nailed that interior, great specs by the way, love that colour combination, well done 👍
Q7 is hands down the most dull, drab and boring looking suv in the segment, looks like a fat jacked up station wagon/ minivan!!

hey Tom, I'm honestly a bit surprised by your verdict towards the end of this video. After your video, I literally sat inside a Q7 55 TFSI Sline and I was really surprised by the quality inside and a simple design of Q7 which matched almost the same with my Q3, except that it had an additional screen for climate control. I thought except for the mechanics of a 3L engine, everything in GV80 was superior. My comparison were GV80 6seater 2.5 AWD v/s Audi Q7 55 TFSI Sline

Life after warranty on European cars, hmmmmm. Expensive and persistent. They keep needing stuff. Things go wrong quiet often. I am certain that all those big brands charge hefty prices for their cars and the cars are the best or almost up there. But ! The next person to buy those cars will be handing over their pay to Audi or whoever..on parts, repairs and restorations. Those European companies know what they're doing.
I have the 2022 q7 brown interior. It does have cooled seating FYI.
The Audi's Cabin is pretty Austere, compared to the Genisis. That Nappa leather combo in the Korean is a great place to be & the seats aren't half bad either. Though the Audi wins by a good margin on connectivity. Audi's Connect Plus is excellent, particularly with the Google map overlays on both the main infotainment & Digital cluster. Genisis just can't match the reasonably seamless Audi's infotainment system. Being able to send info from your phone to the Q7 's infotainment using the My Audi app is a great feature. The Genisis wins on warranty & servicing, the Audi wins on looks. The diesel Audi Q7's are likely to take a bigger slice of sales of overall , where's the Genisis currently is around 80% or so give or take for the petrol variants to 20% for the oiler. Either vehicle will be a good choice.
The Genesis’s interior looks like it’s out of a Bentley! 😍. It’s a shame they messed up the back end… I’d get an X5 or a GLE; I guess it’s a cool compromise between the exterior/interior/engine
Can't believe that the diesel GV80 is even more thirsty than a petrol Q7.
Still prefer to go for the Q7.

I personally think in the class, BMW X5 is still the best choice overall. But I am happy to see Q7 still hold up, but Genesis is improving so quickly, it is almost mind boggling, good on them.

Basically the petrol engine in the Audi is more fuel efficient than the diesel in the Genesis.
How exactly did you get the GV80 to $113,000? I don't even think you can option it to that price in the US.
The $113,000 should be in Australian dollars. The 3.5T AWD is about $75,000 USD

What is Audi like for reliability? I gave up on VAG back in 2007 after a miserable experience with my old MK5 GTi…hoping to hear they have cleaned up their game.
Yeah I’d say as far as I’m concerned you nailed it, impressive effort by Genesis but I’d plump for a Q7 for it’s slightly more complete driving experience/refinement and I definitely prefer the looks of the Q7. Lessons here for Audi and the other Euro competitors is they will have to up their game in things like secondary (standard) finishes and spec given the price of entry for spec equivalent vehicles.

A very old Q7 but still can upset new competition.
Unfortunately Volkswagen aren't interested in supporting their customers, and all replacement parts are ridiculously expensive. It's OK for a car to have faults, it's how the manufacturer treats you that matters. Volkswagen treat their customers appallingly.
This q7 facelift doesn’t look great, much prefer the pre facelift
4G will not be any good up in the Northern Territory. The Audi needs proper maps.
Tom, that GV80 3.0 diesel engine is a very old engine (smartstream EU6+ modified S2 D3.0 from the 2008 Kia Mohave!!!) and the car itself is already almost 3 years old! Powertrain is completely mismatched with the Q7.
Wrong. The 3.0L diesel in the Genesis is brand NEW. it is a Straight 6 NOT a V6 out of the Mohave.
I’m not sure that’s right - this is an I6, not the old 3.0 V6

Believe it or not , my Audi Q7 has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned. I am at 50k Miles…….., and I have i owned bmw Lexus Volvo

Channels like ReDriven are a dime a dozen and any person looking at buying a car with their hard earned dollars should facet this in to the equation.

Who cares ? You'd have to putt from the rough to be into these cars.
In the past I would have poo pooed anything out of Hyundai, and if you had the 'hide' to speak of a 'Genesis' I would have told you to go stick it. Audi was my only car with Mercedes 2nd, and BMW 3rd on the list of choices. But after Audi's poor reliability, and poor service out of both Audi, and Mercedes, Genesis in the present, is one heck of a good car. five years of free servicing. Audi is a crap brand with terrible customer service, and expensive upkeep like all the Euro brands. Audi air suspension had a habit of going lop sided if you kept the airbags fully inflated to keep the vehicle at its highest position. Warranty is nothing if the brand doesn't back it with actual support.
Genesis is far better ownership wise than Audi. Period.

The exterior of the Audi is ugly from every angle. Especially the face. It looks super dated
Compares to side by side Q7 looks more young and modern ages SUV but if you keep looking GV80 outside front and back lights looks more amateur SUV is not really feels modern looking
