The E38 is still a class act. We've had a number of BMWs over the years and one of our 'keepers' is an E38 750iL with the 'sport pack'. It still has a working EDC system, though the front shocks are probably due for overhaul. The timing chain 'problems' on the M62 are over-hyped - treat them as a preventative maintenance item around the 200K (kilometres) mark and they are fine in all but the most neglected cars. We've owned a number early S38 engined cars and they need the chains and guides done as a service item every 160K, and it's far more expensive as a job than on the M62, yet no-one ever seems to complain about that. I personally think the E38/39 era was the peak when it comes to the combination of styling, complexity, reliability and gadgets. Our E38 isn't going anywhere.
I bought one of these one year ago 81,000 miles year 2001 740IL diesel green absolutely beautiful! An amazing smooth driving car from two iconic movies James Bond and the transporter! BTW WHERE IS UR CAR PHONE!!
I wish they would go back to that angled-forward, slim, squinty front end. It looks so good. Cars today try to look overly "aggressive" or "angry" 😠. I much prefer designs like this one that just have a blank death stare. 😐 One of the many things that 90's/early 2000's models got right.
Tobacco Brown interior its probably an individual model; check the drivers apron at the shock tower. Check the power steering lines under the exhaust manifold if the car has SLS as the line can explode with spectacular force. China tail lights are gonna give the canbus a shit fit. Currently have 4 of these cars and I prefer the extended IL as the short sport feels too much like my E39's just larger. Gonna get lots of remarks about changing timing chains on the M62TU most are unfounded. Replace the two check valves for the vanos gears behind the vanos solonoids and do the tensioner............these motors go well over 250k on original guides if the motor was looked after with proper oil changes. Wood trims are veneer set on an aluminumn backer........its just the clear coat that cracks they can be refinished. Nice car. Cheers
Hey brother! Not an individual & I also have coil overs. The lights (which I bought it with) are giving me a few little issues such as codes. Appreciate the insight! Enjoy your collection!
@@My_Value I think it depends on the package - My friends 2002 540i M Sport had real wood. I think it may depend on the packages / trim level you have!
it's wood veneer. i destroyed a bunch of them wanted to use it for fire wood but yeah, it's a sheet of veneer on top of MDF or something like that then a thick coat of clear on top of it. it's really classy, i love wood veneer on my speakers at home.
E39 has wood optiones u can also get individual trim with 2 different venire colours with aluminum inlay. It's called the Muschelahorn Individual Interior Wood Trim Set. The backing is that holds the inlay. Temperature changes cause and humidity cause it to crack.
@@notsofast49 I wish! 750 is the V12 for the E38 generation - They only made around 15-20% of E38s with V12s in North America - The rest being V8’s like mine!
Hi! Theres a 1999 BMW 735 I for sale near to me. I really like the way the car looks, and i would love to have it. Is there anything that i should look out for, when examining the car? The seller told me hes a bmw specialist mechanic, and the car is fully rebuilt, and everything on it is perfect. The car has 300.000 km s. Im looking for a hobby car btw, that i could drive for long distances if needed.

The car was originally optioned with the edc system not sls. It's seam the original owner wanted a more sporty luxury car baised on the options.

3:08 I did not know that the wood in the E38 is real. I always thought that it's just fake trim like in my E39!
