    The best way to learn how to hook a ball is to buy an 8-10lb ball and have it drilled to fit you.. It was the BEST thing I ever did. What it allowed me to do was learn muscle memory in releasing the ball properly without straining with the extra weight. Once you become comfortable with the proper release, you can go up in weight. But the light ball gave me the confidence to throw hook. Trying to hook a heavier ball can be intimidating and scary for some people.

      I think this is a good method as well. However my lighter ball of 10lbs didn't have a core in it so it wouldn't hook very much.

    • @JonHop1
      @JonHop1 2 роки тому +7

      @@mikelombard21 Its more to learn the release and axis rotation. Not to actually strike with lol. I only used the 10lb ball to learn release techniques as its easier on the wrist and gives more confidence to throw different ways with less weight.

    Great video. Alot of videos about hooking are to increase revs or different hand positions nothing about the very beginner level.

    Also, rev generation comes from the elbow. Wrist controls axis. With both combined comes hook.

    Guys, I love you! nothing but respect but this video drives me crazy! If you are going to make a release video you need to tell people how to get your hand under the ball, what the elbow, shoulder, the wrist is doing, and what it feels like. Just telling someone to get their hand under the ball doesn't work. There is so much more going on, in my personal opinion you are doing people a disservice by telling them this because they think "damn it's that easy" then they go to lanes and are discouraged because it didn't work. That's my two cents, appreciate what you guys do, I just see so many of these "release videos" and they never tell people how to get your hand in that position.

    • @existenceghost9701

      @@Rollingwtheflow1 It's truly strange but here in the states no one really talks about it, its almost like it's bowling best-kept secret. But in Japan, it's all they talk about, here is a great video. ua-cam.com/video/T_UItdMQK4w/v-deo.html This video really gives you an idea of what is happening to generate all those revs. Every pro does this in some fashion they just really over-exaggerate it in the video to get the point across.

    Hook is technique… but it is also conditions. I had not played in years! Then I played a couple months ago, on dry lanes with a ball that I could grip correctly. Took two games for my hook to stop hooking too much, to calm down and start hitting the pocket a bit. So I played last week, but these lanes were slick and the balls were drilled terribly. Using the same basic throw as in January, there was no way for me to produce any movement unless I slowed the throw waaaay down.

    Keeping your hand cupped like that at release is not necessary it will cause injury to your wrist that's a lot of weight on your hand wrist. Its not all about revs to create hook its the direction the revs are going. You only need to keep your fingers under the ball with wrist firm or slightly cupped the hook comes from hit of fingers somewhat off the side of the ball at release the more towards the side the bigger the hook. As the ball skids downs oil the ball rotation will then grip the dry area and move towards the way ball is rotating hook.

      I have noticed that I don’t get under it as well. One thing I am not sure with it is once the hand is under the ball do you rotate the fingers to the side or up the back of the ball?

    I like how B&K describe where to hold the ball. Now, they need to describe how it “feels” to throw the ball..sort of like an underhand spiral I think.

    Went to two pro shops and bought two balls of the same make/year/kind. I just can’t hold the ball at the position to keep my hand under the ball. The wrist breaks over and I release behind the ball, not under.
    The ball is a 14lb and I’m very athletic with massive grip strength. Both pro shops informed me the issue is me, not the cut of the ball. You both are half my size, so what is going on?

    • @6uava
      @6uava Рік тому

      Same with me. What did you do? My thumb feels like it slips out. I really need to grip it with a lot of pressure, otherwise my thumb slips halfway out of the ball. Did you find a solution to it? I am gonna try a 4th pro shop in the future... I just hope the fit can be improved step by step lol
