As a proud Dundonian myself, lovely to see this video. Even better to see Bertie reading a good Dundee comic (“The Beano”) on the way!
Brilliant video. Really helpful to hear the radio calls too!
I have really enjoyed watching your videos over the last year. Feel inspired to realise a life long dream and have a go at flying myself. Your son has a great sense of humour too. All the best.
Do it Mark. thanks for watching.
Just found your channel and love it! Keep up the good work 👍
Another great video Jon - top notch.
I started watching your videos not long after my first trail flight, i'm now tying up all the loose ends before I take my skills test in the next few weeks. They've been of great help and often provided that much needed kick up the arse whenever I found myself drowning in revision notes, or feeling a bit fed up after a bad lesson.
If I ever find myself at Biggin, the brews are on me.
Safe flying!
+Tom F that's brilliant Tom. Good luck with the final push. Pleased to have been of help in some small way.
Another great video Jon. Nice to see our local controllers at Newcastle being as helpful as ever. It's a lovely route up the coastline with spectacular views! Enjoyed watching, and loved Berties commentary!
+Lee Johnston thanks Lee. ATC was great on this trip.
Superb videos!
+Sam Oz thanks Sam.
Great video! I'm currently doing my PPL at Dundee, nice to see it from a visitors perspective. Definitely agree that you don't get the chance to admire the amazing views of fife and the Tay when concentrating on flying haha
Very nice! Some nice views on the way
Cheers.
Well done Jon & Bertie. Another superbly presented and enjoyable flight. The views on route to Dundee were terrific. Thanks to you both for this entertaining and informative insight into private flying in the UK. Regards Ian Bassett
Cheers Ian.
One of your better videos Jon. Beautiful shots and a great final approach. Well done!!!
Cheers!
As ever, a superb and informative video! Well done, Father 'n' Son!
+Wolff Henry thank you.
Brilliant video as always Jon. Thanks for all the efforts you go to with the filming, editing etc. Great to experience these flights for those of us who can't do it in real life!
+c898dba thanks for watching.
Wonderful video. Looking forward to sharing some similar adventures with my son. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next one as always. All the best.
+Dave Colgate cheers Dave
Top drawer once again Jon. Really enjoy the videos. Thanks for all the effort in post.
+BOLIPILOT1 my pleasure. Thank you.
Another great trip - and wonderful to see that after PPL, the real learning and improving begins! And you have certainly done that... Great to see how your confidence has grown.
I began my PPL in a very similar PA28 but lacked the funds to finish- my home sim is based on a PA28 and your videos have given me some food for flights around the UK!
PS - if Bertie ever doesn't want to join you for a X-country, give me a shout! I'll get in line ;)
You never stop learning. Thanks Richard.
I always enjoy watching your videos! Particularly as you fly to a lot of aerodromes I've flown in and out of in the past. It's giving me a real kick to try to get a PPL myself in the future rather than riding shotgun with others. Your little one is very sweet, you must be very proud :)
Good job you didn't have to go around because of the controlled airspace immediately afterwards over Barry.
+Konrad Strachan thanks Konrad. I'm very proud of Bertie.
Nice to see you fly through my neck of woods Jon - Durham Tees/Newcastle. We are lucky to have less traffic and restricted airspace up here. Looking forward to the return journey!
+unixsystems it was very peaceful and plain sailing.
That's familiar territory for me. I trained at Perth (which is only just a little further West along the Tay) and my aircraft is based there.
BTW - Leuchars isn't pronounced Loo-CARS - the last syllable is more like the last syllable of "snookers" with the emphasis on the first.
I found Leuchars Radar to be exceptionally helpful, especially during my qualifying solo cross-country. It's a great part of the country to fly and it just gets more spectacular the further North you venture. On a day like that, from that altitude, you'll probably have been able to see where the land starts to get decidedly lumpy just to the North of the Tay.
I do recommend Perth as a destination airport... but then, perhaps I'm just a little biased. If you ever plan a flight there, give me a shout and I'll buy you a hot drink and a Mars-Bar in our lovely lounge. ;)
Another great video Jon, keep up the good work and enjoy the flying, Really enjoy your channel
+photo 83 asks for watching.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Pleasure.
another great video! Amazing views! :) on prepar3D, i flew a piper arrow 3 cause i thought that it was vaguely familiar! It's an amazing aircraft!
Thanks for watching.
ah thank you very much. once i have saved up , i will look in to it. Thanks once again!
Really enjoyed that one Jon; the father/son interaction was quite lovely. Gorgeous views, reminded me of my flight to and from Caernarfon last weekend. And excellent improvisation with the map as a sun blind! I'll remember that one next time. Great video.
Cheers Nick. Was only looking at Caernarfon as a possible destination today!
I was looking at camping on the site nearby. Not sure if I'll make it this summer.
The Flying Reporter funnily enough, that's exactly what I did - I flew in on Saturday, camped over at the Dinlle Caravan park (about a mile's walk away... didn't look like the site at the end of the runway did camping) and then went home on Sunday. Would definitely do it again, except next time I'd stay in one of the pods to cut down on gear I'd need to lug from the airfield!
Fees were £20 landing for the PA28 and £10 for the overnight hard parking. I'd recommend taking your own tie downs (the screw in type) as there weren't any hooks or anything visible in the parking spot I was in :)
+Nick T nice one, thanks Nick.
The Flying Reporter you're quite welcome. All the best to you.
Great video again Jon. Must be a great adventure for Bertie. 😁
He takes it all in his stride.
Great video again. Apart from getting the sqwark wrong at the start but everything else perfect as you normally are
+Paul Tchaikovsky thanks Paul. Far from perfect, but I appreciate the sentiment.
The Flying Reporter it was as good as I can muster which is good, love your videos they are very informative
Bertie is reading The Beano, published and printed in Dundee... I claim the hidden-message-in-this-video prize!
+Toffy B hi. We explored the Dundee Beano connections.
Well done Bertie, that was a long flight and you did well. What was the game you were playing?
Another really good video Jon. Visibility looked great and it all seemed to work seamlessly, which can hide the fact that you were very well planned. Well done!
+Jodel Flyer Bertie:"Lego Batman 3 & Lego Jurassic World. Thank you, I just normally either sit still and enjoy the views, or play my games when I'm bored". Thanks Tim. You're right, it took a bit of planning of course, but the class G airspace is so much bigger up there, and some of the controllers less busy, it seems, so able to give you a better service.
Nice! Thanks for sharing, uploading and all that good stuff haha
+CKUKMale pleasure.
I think i'm adding Dundee to my list of places to go after seeing that approach...
Ah yes...it's pretty!
Great video, fantastic visibility. What is the longest flight that you have done so far?
Really enjoy watching your videos, keep it up! If you're ever up Lincolnshire way- i'd love to meet you!
Thanks Jaike.
Thanks Jaike.
HI what cameras do you use especially for some of the zoomed in shots at the avionics. Is it just action cam or a dslr too?
Really great video! (btw- I think EASA abbreviation NCO stands for non commercial operations (rather than non complex operations)) ?
+dave jones oh yeah! Thanks.
Thanks for the videos! Which iPad mount do you use?
Thanks. From my FAQs: "I have an older, and rather large IPad. (fourth generation I think) Will hopefully upgrade to a smaller, more cockpit-friendly version sometime. For now, I mount it to the yoke with one of these. www.transair.co.uk/sp+Apple-iPad-RAM-Mounts-Ram-iPad-Complete-Yoke-Mount-Kit+1426
Do make sure the flight controls are unimpeded by the mount/iPad. If you don’t adjust it well, it can get in the way of the mixture setting on the PA28."
The Flying Reporter Thank you for the link and advice. I have an iPad mini & will pop into Transair.
Why don't you let Burty sit in the front? if you tell him to sit on his hands during takeoff and landing, he'll be fine. It's up to you :)
+Sam Armstrong he had since sat in the front (video soon) but he’s very distracting.
Ohh ok, fair enough. I look forward to the video coming
I enjoy your videos and would like to support you, but I live in Australia. A monthly contribution would be gobbled up in transfer costs so can I make a single donation?
Thanks David. That's kind. I need to find a way to make this easy, while giving you the same benefits that my Patreon supporters receive. I'll set something up on my website very soon for this. Cheers.
Hi,I have a very rusty PPL, but cannot fly at the moment. I really enjoy your videos. I would like to donate by visa card if possible. Regards, David Houston
Ok David. I'm now supporting this option on my website. Thank you for your support. www.jonhunt.net/support-me/
