I Love freeze dry fruit Thanks for letting me know about the ring on the door. I haven’t started freeze drying yet. I will pre freeze also. Thanks for showing how you stored them. I hope you have a blessed day.
I appreciate you showing us how to check a freeze dryer before using it. Love all the tips/tricks and step by step tutorial on the freeze drying process and the storage of your freeze dried strawberries. Definitely a great idea of having 2 sets of trays. Thanks for contributing a great video in the Freeze Dried February 2024 Collaboration!!
So many good freeze drier tips in this video. I particularly like when you showed how you used your local hardware store when replacement parts were needed. Thankyou for this video. Thank you Angela for hosting this collaboration and the sponsors for their generosity.
Strawberries are probably my favorite freeze dried food. I love just eating them out of the can or bag. I wish I had a freeze drier but not in budget. Thank you for sharing and being apart og the collaboration. I really enjoyed your video.
Thank you for sharing. I chuckle every time you say "creepy basement". That's what I called my grandmother's basement when I was a kid. Strawberries are super snacks, yum. I just tried diced apples with apple pie spice sprinkled on top and I tell ya, they give strawberries a serious challenge for first place. Yum. You had an excellent tip by noting that the freeze dryer won't change the flavor, so start with fresh foods and flavors you like. Good info. Thanks!
I am very new to freeze drying and your video was so very helpful. I am looking forward to following your channel and learning so much more about freeze drying. Have a great day and thank you for being a part of #freezedriedfebruary.
This just makes me want a freeze dryer even more. I'm a huge fan of doing strawberries like this. I won't hardly buy them freeze dried in the stores anymore because they've become so expensive. I really want a freeze dryer so when I get them on sale I can buy more and freeze dry them. I used to want a dehydrator but that changed when I realized you could buy a freeze dryer and do it at home.
I tell everyone that buys a freeze dryer to get a second set of trays! I use my tray lids as trays often because I don’t have a second set yet but I know how valuable they would be. It took me a while to try strawberries but it’s super easy and they are tasty!
Your video instructions on freeze drying strawberries is full of many little tasks that you do that are so helpful. I absolutely respect that you took the time to explain reasons for the steps that you choose to take and some that you don't, like always pre-freezing your batches, using parchment only when you feel you need it, not having or purchasing the liners, cutting strawberries after they have warmed a few minutes from freezer, and the purchasing of a second set of trays. In doing research into a purchase that is such a large commitment, this knowledge that you share, can save newbie freeze dryer's so much time and money from disappointments and can lesson mistakes. The oxygen absorber going bad is a great thing to share. I haven't used any and truly was wondering how I would know when they are shot! Thank you for taking us to your NOT creepy basement and sharing all of your knowledge on strawberry freeze drying.
I have lots of strawberries in my garden so this year I will be able to freeze dry them if my freeze dryer arrives in time. Thank you for explaining the process very thoroughly. Also I want to thank you for participating in the Freeze Dried February collaboration.
Thank you for joining the collaboration. I appreciate the time you took to show just how easy it is to freeze dry strawberries. Even more I like how you talked through all the "little things" that one learns from experience. Helps us newbies a great deal.
I have some berries and tomatoes taking up precious space in my freezer. Thank you for sharing this. Now I know how I can make more room in my freezer!
Highly recommend getting extra set of trays, one set freezing and one set in freeze dryer. Hard to keep strawberries they make great snacks. Thanks for the video.
Your video provided me helpful insights into the workings of the freeze dryer, itself. Something many don't include on their videos. Thanks for that. You also prompted me to think of other ways I might use the freeze dried strawberries, so it was "food-4-thought". Great job!
I learned so much about oxygen absorbers. I wondered how to use and store them. Thank you for the video. I loved how informative it was, and how you walked me through the use of your machine. I've a machine on the way. Learning all I can now before it arrives.
I love freeze dried strawberries!!! You are correct they are so costly at the store. I think they will probably be one of the first things I will try when I get a freeze dryer. Thanks for a very educational video.
All the presenters put a lot of work in their videos and it is certainly appreciated. Love the info and the “creepy” basement. Had one of those years ago and it was creepy. Learned some things about the freeze dryer process. Thank you so much.
Strawberries are one of our favorites. Saturday I’ll be getting 2 flats (16 lbs) of Florida strawberries. We just did some strawberry shortcake two ways. One was a small slice of pound cake, a slice of strawberry and a dollop of cool whip. Those are good but the second way is even better. We chopped up the berries and cake then mixed everything together, dropped in balls with a cookie scoop. Delicious!
I grow a ridiculous amount of strawberries each summer and I freeze them. I don’t eat sugar so they usually go in plain yogurt. My fingers are crossed to win the freeze dryer because your post has shown me I really, really need one. I too have a creepy basement! Thank you so much for your post
I love FDing strawberries. We live in a farming community and strawberry farms are everywhere. Springtime, I buy buckets of strawberries. We eat them fresh, shortcakes, jams, and I FD a lot! Love them!
You made a very good point about if the quality of the product your freeze drying should be the best. Quality in Quality out...Sub par product, sub par product out...Very interesting point..Thank you for sharing how to freeze dry Yummy Strawberries
Thank you for this video! It was helpful to see the difference with oxygen absorbers. Also, I did not know it would basically seal the jar lid! That's neat!

Yay thank you!! Honestly, oxygen absorbers confuse me lol. Oddly enough when I tried getting information about oxygen absorbers, how to tell if they've gone bad or not, I could not find that information. Clearing this up helps a ton for nudging myself to get a Freeze Dryer because I wanted to make sure I knew how to store the food properly!
Glad it was helpful! I've got a lot of how-to on mylar and oxygen absorbers over on my Instagram. That's my main social media channel. If you want to really dive deep, I have a course on using mylar for long-term food storage as well.
