- Here's a long overdue lutz jump analysis video that I should've uploaded a week ago 😅, work has been keeping me busy but let's try my absolute best to stay consistent on UA-cam!
So let's dive deep into the lutz edges happening at the Finlandia Trophy 2021, featuring the 3 medalists: 🥇Kamila Valieva, 🥈Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and 🥉Alena Kostornaia.

Liza Lutz is vastly underscored. she deserves a much much higher score. Aliona's Lutz is solid. Kamila's jump is the Loop in the best case 3/4 pre-rotation and the same score as Liza. unbelievable.
Even for a loop 3/4 rotation is already bad technique. Her lutz is just ugly plus combine with that edge wiggle before the 3T, that 1.77 GOE is undeserved if Liza also got the same.

Kami’s 3 lutz is a double actually given the egregious on-ice rotation. Crazy
And that's probably why quads are fine for her, because really they can be like triples

And quads are only triples. It's about Kami&Anna. Quad-lady is only Trusova. But she rated lower then they. Judging system discredites itself AT ALL.

It is an option to deviate slightly from textbook prior to takeoff to do the jump well enough, from prior to takeoff to after landing.

Liza's is a text book lutz, which is so rare nowadays. When Koola King was pointing out the 1/2 on-ice pre-rotations that Medvedeva and Zagitova were doing and the full blade assist on the toe pick, I was already kinda irked by this technique. But maaaaaan, Kamila does a full blade assist and a 3/4 on-ice pre-rotations is just abysmal.
Prerotation is unlimited and "full-blade assist" is a non-existent term.

Open the handbook of rules and learn - prerotation is unlimited for both men and women! And her made-up terms like "fullbladeassist" do NOT exist.
You are koolashited so much, so you don't even see that tons of another skaters using prerotation (Miyahara, Liu, Shoma, etc.) and never get any deduction, cause it's legal!
But stupid idiots are just reposting koolashit instead of reading rules, and stupid Koola was obsessed with Eteri only.
Can anyone then explain why Evgenia’s “lutz” was almost never called “e” when she was training with Eteri, but once she moved to Orser her edge was called almost every time?
I’m not 100% sure now, but once I studied every judging report and I think it was called ONCE when she was with Eteri, and, by analogy, it wasn’t called probably only once when she was training in Toronto. And please don’t take me wrong, I’m not against any skater or coach, I cannot imagine myself doing such a wonderful job, it’s just my observation that really attracted my attention.
Liza huge 3Lz-3T vs Valieva’s tiny excessive prerotated 3Lz-3T. If a skater’s 3-3 looks tiny, it is either because they rotates very very fast in the air or they prerotate excessively on the ice. And Valieva is the latter
How a 2.25 rotation jump from Kamila counts as a triple baffles me. However at least she has an outside edge unlike Daria.
the risk of a textbook lutz is the strain it puts on your ankle. It just sad that some are risking their ankle to execute it perfectly while others are getting away from the calls but still gets a positive GOE or no deductions, worse higher GOEs. :)

Same thing with Hanyu. The guy is 27 with weakened ankles due to multiple injuries yet people insist he does his insane Lutz.

She always do this edge change special in the Combination. It's horrible and unhealthy too. The Eteri Girls all have not the best techniques. Sasha is ok. Anna and Kami are beautiful sakter but technically a nightmare. Sorry

Kamila's technique is a wreck. She absolutely fell apart between the jumps in combo. Liza had the same combination and it's just another league. Coaches pushing kamila too hard, crushing her potential with squeezing instead of proper pacing.
What you describe as "fall apart" is a suspension and there is simply nothing wrong with it. We can discuss why she uses that kind of suspension but since you describe it that way, you clearly show you have no idea about figure skating.

God, I feel pain in my hip and my knees everytime a see Kamila's 3lz. She is a talented skater, but... I can't ignore the impression.
Liza has the best and most consistent Lutz. Aliona and Kamila lutz still have long way to fix the edge. It is not easy fix, but lutz is lutz. There should not be a way for judge to give positive GOE if it is not fulfill the requirements of Lutz. 😑
If Kostornaia can improve the edge it would be great. But her 3Lutz here is executed well enough, and complements the before and after jump. Though a high score on this element cannot be expected, the entire program should be very appealing and enjoyable to watch.
Valieva's 3Lutz is rather unattractive overall, and technically it would require more than fixing the edge.

Liza’s face is so angelic. She is the superior jumper and the most beautiful out of this incredibly beautiful crop of young, up and coming(all ready here, lol) skaters. This isn’t to say Kamila and Aliona are not also Ultra-beautiful. Liza is just so special and I admire her so much!

To be fair I've seen worse lol. Alyssa Liu when she did here "quad" lutz would get nearly 1.25 rotations on ice before leaving it, and then underrotated the jump. She was doing an underrorated triple loop when she did her "quad lutz" that she got full credit for. *rolls eyes*
Yeah no, Alyssa Liu definitely has an abysmal lutz but just because its worse does not negate Valieva's terribleness. Valieva is basically doing an overrotaed double.

Funny you say that when Alysa's quad lutz had 1/2 prerotation and a solid outside edge. Was it a pretty jump? No. Did it have decent technique? Yes.

1) Liza should've had the highest GOE, her lutz is textbook just like Queen Yuna
2) Aliona's should've had at least a ! for unclear edge, but overall she did good in terms of minimizing prerotation
3) Kamila's prerotation is crazy here, same as Alysa Liu. Her technique got a bit better by this year, but the wobbly edge change is still there

All eteri students lutz have a loop entry. So it's a flutz. Same with the flip. It's a floop. Their triples have 2.5 rotations and the quads 3.25 rotations. If the lutz technique is incorrect, most other jumps are too.
But what about Trusova? Kostornaya is also not bad.

I don’t think anyone at Tutberidze is even trying since they get the points and high GOEs if they land a jump. No motivation somehow
I didn’t realize the bad technique of Valieva. Why are not the judges penalizing this. That’s the only way she will correct this technique.
The judges cannot rewatch entries and as far as I know, there are no clear ISU guidelines about prerotation. She should have receded penalty for full blade on the ice, imo, as it is no longer a toe assisted jump.

El jurado tiene acceso a otras camaras que no son las que salen en tv y que filman lo que ocurre en el deslizamiento en el hielo , es por eso que está el controlador técnico quien informa o hace las llamadas, por eso también se tardan en dar resultados mientras hacen los ajustes, al final puedes ver la hoja del panel de jueces y donde han marcado UR , degradado, llamada de filo y los saltos con bonos en la 2da mitad

How a double + 0.25 jump values the same as a triple.

Is it sad that at this point I'm just like "welp, at least Kami's jump has a clear outside edge?" She's one of my favorite skaters ever and I think she's the goat tbh but Liza's lutz is objectively more ummm lutz-y. RIP lutz jump, we miss you.

How can you compare Kamila's jumps with hands up with the others? It's much more difficult and risky and that's why she got higher goe.

Different techniques but what we can notice is the difference in size of jumps picked and spun. Those that pick their jumps tend to cover more distance and height while those who spin the jumps tend to rotate much faster. The strain visible in the upper body is less pronounced in the former. Interesting video.
Valieva has always been overscored because she has beautiful balletic style. Her jumps rely on doping and prerotations. But her skating style is also overscored because while she looks beautiful, she makes no attempt to connect with the audience, it's all emotionless.
Not even emotionless, she looks terrified every time she is performing. The only time I saw her show happiness was in the last lines of Bolero where she was confident she could do her spins without issue.
Honestly, the overhype did damage to her as well, since she is very much aware that all it takes is one misstep and she's falling off the pedestal and into the abyss
I feel like all of Eteri's skaters used to have the same bad lutz jump technique where they would sort of swerve into it and shift from an outside edge into an inside edge and then take off with a full blade assist and a lot of prerotation. This is interesting because both Kamila and Aliona are Eteri skaters and they both have problems with their lutz but they definitely don't have the same problems with their lutz. Aliona has an unclear edge/flat but everything else is good. This probably why she has a good flip jump where you want a shallow inside edge as opposed to a deep outside edge as well as the minimal prerotation, a toepick assist and overall clean jump. Kami actually has a beautiful deep outside edge and a clean landing with a lot of speed exiting the jump but she excessively prerotates and slams her full blade onto the ice when she takes off. I wonder why this is.

Judges need to be judged because they do not judge correctly
Судей нужно судить, за то что судят не корректно. Не придираться и манипулировать,а правильно оценивать катание, но для этого нужны чёткие критерии профессионализм и непредвзятость, особенно у технических контролёров, в этом случае.
Преротация ничем не ограничена.
Никогда прыжки с минимальной преротацией типа Цурской и Лизы не считались "эталонными", чтобы там не несли в комментах. И не будут таковыми.

Ну, пусть скажет Лизе, чтобы не напрягалась на отрыве.
Скллько раз им с Цурской драли базу за недокруты! Судьям плевать на твой "чистый отрыв", а вот за недокрут тебя поимеют по-полной!
@@feyanormorfol2457 Наверное не совсем так, просто правильность рёбер и недокруты определяют тех. контролёр и его помошники и у них есть для этого
спец. средства, а другие параметры прыжка, как высота, красота, пролётность, ну и преротацию судьи определяют, оценивают не вооружённым
глазом. Поскольку всё происходит очень быстро четверть оборота вообще не заметна, точно определять и не пытаются.. Не гласно принимается на флипе и лутце до пол оборота, на других прыжках чуть больше. 3/4 оборота на лутце многовато и при желании или необходимости исполнитель может быть наказан. У Алисы лью были проблемы с этим. Но там было всё вместе и недокрут и большая преротация. Просто отминусовывали оборот.

Соответственно и поощрения за маленькую преротацию нет.

Никто в истории не был ни наказан ни поощрен за прер.
Вообще, отрыв - карт-бланш для спортсмена. Он не ограничен, но при злоупотреблении прером он сожрёт (через силу трения) всю твою крутку, высоту и энергию. Как результат - НЕДОкрут, а вот за них уже имеют. Мияхара тому пример.

Its amazing to see how they are pushing the sport but the technique is still....bad. I love Valieva as a Skater but you cant deny this is not a Lutz. At this momentum they gonna drop the edge rules lol. Just jump and rotate a lot..

That Liza got the same GOE as Kamilla that does a Flutz, and less than Kostornaia that has a flat edge is an insult to this sport.
Have you watched the video? Flutz is at the inner edge, and at the Kamila it is external, as it should be. Kamila mistake when she kicks off with a tooth on her right foot. She has an almost full blade repulsion. Do not disgrace yourself and learn what Flutz is.

@@santiagovelamorales1029 Failure to push off the right toe is not a Flutz. It's not nearly as bad as the inside edge of the blade on the left leg, called the Flutz. Kamila has an outer rib - as it should be. The materiel should be studied by some.
@@coldsteel9061 but this is not a toepick at all. The Lutz needs both things to be scored properly, a deep outside edge and a toepick. I didn't say it is a flutz, because the flip also requires only a toepick as assistance for the take off, and both jump have better marks when they have 1/2 prerotation or less
@@santiagovelamorales1029 I contacted the author of the post. He doesn't know what Flutz is. I can also see the error when pushing off with an almost full blade of the right leg. But this is not as severely punished as a wrong rib. The judges do not punish this so severely.
Kostornaia doesn't have the textbook edge prior to takeoff. It is a biomechanics thing. But her 3Lutz is solid. I would say it is the best jump of the three here. Eliza's jump, if it were not a combo jump, how would the 3Lutz have turned out I wonder.

With all the technological advancements available in skating competitions, one assumes the judges would be doing their job fairly easily . . . but they're not! Obviously, Kamila's "lutz" is atrocious yet she's constantly been given the highest marks. The ISU should amend the rule book on skating and clarify without a shadow of a doubt what exactly constitutes proper technique and thus merits the best scores.
Kamila's Lutz looks super painful to me. I have no idea how her body handles so much strain.

flutz is a wrong edge. The only left one with wrong edges is Anna.
Aliona and Maiia edge sometimes flat. Daria is a flutzer. Only Sasha and Kamila have outside edge lutz

Why are only people looking at the foot edge? Are we all dumb now? What makes a outside edge is not only the edge of the blade BUT ALSO the inclination of the body. Kamila is clearly bending her torso from the hip to an interior edge.

Вы не замечаете, что Лиза в хореографии бревно? Прыжки хорошие, но компоненты слабые. У Лизы самые неинтересные вращения, плохая дорожка, медленный темп. Прыжки техничные, но заходы на них длинные, не такая эффектная программа. Произвольная вообще какая-то дискотека и много рук, всё это снимает ей балы, несмотря на отличные техничные прыжки.

@@Johnny_Neroli Вы вообще не разбирайтесь, за скучные вращения баллы не снимают, а за неправильную технику снимают. И дорожка шагов у Лизы хорошая, реберность есть. А у Валиевой скольжение нет, потому как скрип от её коньков прям через экран слышен. И у Валиевой в этом сезоне заход на прыжки увеличился, раньше они в глаза не бросались. Плюс Валиева катается как работ, да и сама программа набор элементов. У Лизы просто блата нет.

Liza actually has proper jumping technique, as she’s not relying on her back and arms to get her into the air. She is relying on her legs (as you’re supposed to) for proper figure skating jumps. I love watching Kamila and Sasha skate but I really wish that they were taught proper jumping technique. Her coaching staff seemed to think that even if it was wrong, the referee would pretend not to see it. You will get high marks as well. Why? Manila has the largest pre-rotation but her landing is the clearest. Liza and Alena have about 90 degree pre-rotation but also 60-80 degrees missed at landing. No one makes a real triple jump (1080 degrees).
PR is allowed. Judges start lowering the GOE when the PR is above 180 degres, even with Lz and flip. Somtimes they missed it ☹

You are allowed 1/4 pre rotation on jumps with toe picks. 1/2 for edge jumps (Lo and Sal).

You know, she will win the Olympics, no doubt. She will be massively overscored and no ugly technique will be punished. And again it will feel as a cheated win despite the fact that she might win even if scored fairly.

@@milka8934 I’m just following how is she being scored, as well as few other skaters. Trusova for instance got last weekend ridiculously high PCS for basically cruising around the rink. These girls are chronically overscored and sometimes their wins feel really … undeserved.

Velina Buchvarova oh yeah they all massively prerotate but only Anna actually has an inside edge. Alena sometimes goes flat and Kamila’s went flat at skate Canada too
as long as its outside edge I think thats all that matters.
