  • There are certain iconic guitar designs that have become ubiquitous on music stages all over the world - for good reason. Our TE-20MN CA in crisp Candy Apple Red presents beginners the chance to play an instrument which does more than just look great. With tried and tested ingredients like a basswood body, a bolt-on maple neck with a maple fretboard (648 mm scale, 22 frets) and the single coil pickups in the bridge and neck positions, this single-cut guitar sounds magnificent.
    Interesting bits and pieces:

I will only go with a good custom shop Fender, maybe even a light relic to make me look more authentic on stage when in front of an audience (most people are stupid enough to not know the difference between real and relic luckily). You know where you are with a Fender custom shop, you have an amazing instrument every time. Seriously top level on feel, look and sound. I can't afford a genuine 60s stratocaster yet 😪 but I'm happy with my custom jobs for now! Yey! 😜👍

The TE-20s are genuinly good guitars, even stock. Mine was great out of the box, really the only upgrade it needed to get really good tuning stability was a graphtech TUSQ nut.
Did some other things with it, too, but I was genuinly surprised by the quality and I play it very often despite having guitars 7 times the price or so.

The bright spot to 2020 was that I discovered Harley Bentons. And then I bought way too many of them, AND IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!
These are phenomanal guitars. I have the blond-ish version of this guitar. What I think Thomann have done is that they've built a brand that fixes the stuff we all kind of dislike about Fender and Gibson instruments. Between Harley Benton and Xaviere guitars, I have no need of a Fender or a Gibson. In fact, I have a Gibson SG and a Fender Strat, and both are in their cases. Where they will remain. Unreal quality and value. Also, if you buy more than 1 guitar you can combine shipping, which kind of rules right now.
Their higher end offerings are amazing too. The CST24T can legit hang with the PRS instruments that inspired them. I have a humbucker and P90 version. They're both amazing.

This review is 3 years old. There is no way you could describe the neck as shipped in 2023 as thick! It is a modern C shape. It is thinner than the TE52 and the TE 62. The fingerboard is 1mm wider at the 20th fret than either of the other two but not THICKER.
Also, in 2023 it does not come with compensated saddles. (if it ever did?)

Depends on what you like in tone.
The TE-52 is made out of Ash instead of Basswood, so it sounds brighter. Also, the strings go through the body instead of just through the bridge, so sustain is better and the tone is more complex instead of plastic-ey. Costs 50% more though. Listen to the sound samples at Thomann's website.

I have the te-20 MN BM (Blue Metallic) and I got it when the US price was $78+$30 shipping... for $108 total cost this guitar is a STEAL. I also didn't feel very bad making mine a relic at that price. I own 5 HB's of varying cost and this is what I consider my #2 guitar to be. The only one I play more than my TE 20? A Fusion II HSH MN FBB that cost $275 + $30 for shipping... THAT is just how good this cheaply made (inexpensive, not badly built) guitar is. I had one tiny issue with the bridge as the high E string broke the first time I tried to do a small bend. Turned out there was a TINY burr in the string hole on the back of the bridge (this is NOT a string through body) i took a small file, smoothed out that hole and haven't had a single problem since... The only way I can say don't buy this guitar is if you're literally so lazy that you can't be bothered to make a 30 second fix on something so small a 5 year old could fix it...

That neck looks like a TE-52 "vintage" neck, as it has some tint on it and it's not overly bright as the TE-20 necks are. Anyway, I have both guitars, and the TE-20 is the better player, but the TE-52 sounds much better with better wood, strings and pickups. I think it's just a matter of luck how good of an instrument you will have with these really cheap Harley Bentons. TE-20's pickups are quite bad.
