Let's be real, HB makes awesome and beautiful guitars/basses that people like to shit on just because they are "CHEAP". If I had to choose between a 5k gibson and 5k worth of HB I'd rather start planning where to put them all.
let me ask, you never played a 5k guitar? I had both and hb guitars are like sht compared to custom shops and bfr music mans and so on. They are cheap and are only worth the price that they are.
That’s not true at all.. they are not all “shit” I have played all sorts of guitars. Yes the more expensive guitars are very different.. but calling all HB as “shit” guitar is just downright wrong and elitist.
@@belkocik Yeah, weird. Maybe it was a copy/paste typo they corrected and they were never Roswell to begin with. Anyway I noticed a crackling in the pickup wires on my bridge so I dropped a DiMarzio Evolution in as a replacement ;)
I have this guitar. This review is proof that a really good amp was used. It was unplayable out of the box: Neck was concaved, string action was almost at 3mm and intonation was whacked, due to the concave neck. Yes, fingers were black, yes, stays in tune. Pickup selector is hard, but maybe that will loosen up with use. The knobs are surprisingly smooth. The pups are really muddy IMO especially during distortion. I think the clean sounds are not bad. I played this through a Fender Deluxe Reverb. BUT, it's easy to set up and is a great guitar for learning how to set up a guitar, although I did had to shorten the low E spring to intonate. It's also looks rad on the wall, which is the reason I originally bought it, but I do enjoy playing it. My current collection by the way is a newer a American Strat, and a few Ibanez RG's ranging from cheaper to more expensive. I'm in SoCal, purchased on a Tuesday, arrived on a Thursday, can't beat that for $40 shipping. I plan on learning how to install pups on this. The look of it is as described. Would I buy it again? Absolutely.
How does he not have more subscribers i mean proper reviews doesn’t just do solos mentions every spec on the guitar and just you cant find a better guitar reviewer out there than Jonathan and by the Way great smile
Indeed! The amount of work needed to build a guitar channel is big. I have enough skills and gear to put content down, however the time it takes is substantial. A following is tough, because people just watch, don't sub, and don't hit the thumbs up for support. It is very important and is drilled by the long term UA-camr's as canon.
A fabulous review of a very nice, exceptionally affordable, guitar by one of the very best players on UA-cam. Jonathan always gives a good, honest appraisal of every guitar he reviews and, as many have said, it is wonderful when such an accomplished player takes the time to critique ( and actually enjoy ) less expensive instruments. Thank you Jonathan for the variety of guitars you " road test ". If only every reviewer was as " open " to find the strengths and sometimes, though not always, weaknesses of budget friendly guitars ... especially when they are as accomplished musicians as yourself. My thanks to you once again Jonathan. Love & light brother x
Hey Jonathan, in your hands every guitar sounds great. And it's cool that a pro like you play these cheap guitars, and find them good. Thank you Jonathan, every beginner could start with great stuff these times. I like the sound of this Guitar, sounds like a Roch beast. Pus sounded good to my ears too. I picked one up recently (summer 2024) used. It was played hard by a Tragically Hip Tribute band and the finish was totally worn off the neck. But over all it is an incredible guitar. Has become my daily player, as my 3000$ Fenders and PRS guitars gently weep.
Your playing always blows me away, Jonathan. My Harley Benton strat arrived yesterday, I love it. Thanks for the thorough and honest reviews, and the good tunes!

I bought the ST 20 HSS strat style Black. And cutted my HB DC to a travel guitar with one bridge pickup 2 knobs . I think you like black guitars. Good job again . awesome playing again.
There will be dye on the Harley Benton fret boards... and the frets will need polishing. That is almost 100% upon arrival at the door. That being said, the quality and wood selection still bring me back to Thomann for another round of Harley benton's.
Hi Jonathan... Got this guitar a couple of days before your video.. love it for the price no brainer! Watching your channel for a year or so for me your one the best You Tube guitarists! Especially about people getting black fingers.. like.. what? Lol anyway really looking forward to have this guitar in my hands. Great review and you play amazing! Rock on🤘🏼
I finally receive the guitar and I’m loving it! Had to do a whole setup, truss rod, action, intonation, changing strings and I cleaned the fretboard. For the price it’s a damn fine guitar and like you said: SEXY! Hahaha 😜
Great demo. I am getting one, my brother giving me couple pedals and I've got a marshall 50w amp to use. Been playing acoustic guitar for nearly 20 years. Not great may i add. Self taught when cahad the time.
Great review, lovely playing! I love mine though I have put Tusq nut and trees and Wilkinson Classic pickups in it. Plays like a dream, very resonant neck and body and it is STUNNING!

And what i like most: it's all in the player and his fingers, not so much the gear. And this cheap tele thing does look attractive, sounds in your hands like a 3k guitar. I really like your soloplaying with the occasional funk rythm chord/solo mix, you don't hear that so often these days, really fine mixture of solo but rockin' muted rythm strumming, more please, inspirational really rocks!

Got mine a couple of weeks ago, out of the box it needed very little attention! For £89 it was better quality than my Gibson les Paul... incredible smooth playing
I would go with a push-pull coil-split either on the volume or tone knob, that way you have 6 tonal combinations. Similar to what Charvel does on their Pro Mod Series San Dimas model 2 guitars, which are Tele based.
@@greekfreak1980 Since the cheaper T and S type guitars from Thomann are not having the full body thickness of the original, you might not have the depth for those pots/switches. Routing deeper could go through ! If you find other, smaller pot/switch combis, your suggestion might be a nice solution.
@@gluteusmaximus1657 Hmm... how thin are those HB´s? The Charvels aren´t super thick either and I have had installed push-pull pots on Ibanez RG´s in the past, who have thin basswood bodies.
Hi John. I will probably be getting my hands on this one as well next week. You have me sold on these guitars. Awesome guitars for the money. And in my price range. I was in the hospital. And had back surgery. Plus went through two weeks of rehabilitation. So wife says I can buy another guitar. I am looking at this one to buy. You make them all sound so good Jonathan. I just want to buy everything you demo. Alas I am only a rhythm guitarist. I will let you know my thoughts when I get it. My heaviest one is the TE-52. Second is the SBK 400. Take Care Buddy.
Hi, great playing and review. I have had mine for almost a week now. I have got black fingers from this guitar as well. The fret ends are a little sharp as your example. I think the pickups are quite good for my needs. The nut could do with replacing and is a little high. But a lot of fun for a little money.
i love this guys playing its got a late seventies Larry carlton, lee rittenour kind of vibe to it, elliot randal those kindaguys very few people pay like that nowadays
I've had mine for 8 days and love it. I put a black pick guard on and it looks killer. Sounds great, but there are some things I dislike. Otherwise a very cool guitar. All my friends love it.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I dont really like the tuners. It seems like there is a lot of dead movement before any positive movement. And the volume knob goes down about 75 percent before there's any change in volume. These are things to be expected in this price range and definitely not worth overlooking this guitar. I'd buy one again in a heartbeat. In fact, I'm already looking at my next HB.
A lot of guitar for the money! There was a time when I didn't have the best and this would have been the best for me. I'd have taken a file, ever so lightly to dress the end of the frets, cleaned it up, put the best strings on it and I'd adjusted my cheap amp. And made that guitar sing.
Gorgeous. I'm really looking at either getting a HB Tele model or perhaps one of their Jazzmaster models. How does the neck profile on the HB Teles compare to the necks on Fenders?
A great guitar for it's price, all it needs is new pickups. tuners, pots and switch, fret dress and setup, a typical entry level Harley Benton. If i was tempted to buy a HB Telecaster, i would look at the higher models, a TE40 or TE90. Look after it Jonathan, you got the last one, unless they make another batch next year.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud This should make you smile, i have been watching one on ebay, it sold tonight for £143 GBP approx $255 Singapore Dollar, and it was used! That's better than any branded guitar, the owner had upgraded the tuners and nut. Harley Bentons that are out of stock are worth selling or keeping until the prices go higher!
Beautifully played as always, Jonathan. Maybe the humbuckers are purposefully weakened so as to be consistent with the usual more clean voiced single coils in the normal tele's( PS I love tele's, no really, my partner of 35 years is surnamed Tele) this was as you noticed a fairly crisp sounding guitar, and maybe they didn't want a big crunchy permed and tightly Lycra' distortion metal type of sound.Since I don't have access to playing one, maybe you're correct in calling it overly bright, but still distorting. Either way it seems like a lot of guitar for very little money, so thanks for a proper thorough test for the rest of us out here!
Thank you Chris.. on the contrary the pickups are not overly bright.. fact is I have to adjust my settings to compensate. But it sounds great after tweaking.. which I normally do for other guitars anyway ✌️❤️
It looks soo awesome. I bought a HB PB-20 SBK and it looks so insanely good with that Matte Black finish so now I have to buy several HB guitars with the same finish 🤣 Even though I have the models I want already I NEED them in that gorgeous finsih. Love your video as always.
Hello Jonathan .. another video by "Mr. Maestro" and i buy another Harley Benton !!! Now stop ... my collection Is complete. Thank for yours accurate and professionals reviews thank for all my friend. 🤟🎸🪕🤠🪕🎸🤟
Hi Jonathan, I've seen countless of your guitar tests: when you play guitar, every guitar seems to sound good. What a delightful guitar playing! I have a question: you just tested the new Harley Benton TE 20HH SBK (current price at Thomann: 99 €). A few months ago (February 18, 2019) you also tested the HB TE-40 TBK (current price at Thomann: 159 €). I am thinking of buying one of the two guitars, but which of the two has your personal preference: the TE 20HH SBK or the TE-40 TBK? The price difference is only 60 €. Is it worth investing the extra 60 € or doesn't it matter? What do you think? Thank you very much for your response. Keep playing the guitar and keep it healthy during these times!
I have a 2010 stratified have a 1999 kramer Striker I also have an ibanez guitar ,I have recently purchased a harley benton s620 the blue one with the floyd rose I also have a Harley Benton guitars dc 200 I believe us the model number it's the sg style guitar I also have this hh 20 tele style harley Benton, I can play my Kramer striker then play my harley benton s620 I think my Harley benton s620 plays better than my striker ,harley benton guitars are made very well in my opinion the workmanship is great for the price I played roughly $800 for my Kramer and $159 plus $60 shipping for my harley benton s620 so $219 us dallors compared to 800 with basically the same quality, granted harley benton guitars are custom shop guitars but the quality and workmanship are outstanding for the price point you wont find that quality of a guitar in the us for probably under $400 I mean that's just the way it is plus you pay for the name such as strat and so forth theres nothing wrong with Harley Benton guitars at all you think because they are cheap they are no good which it is the complete opposite you really get quality for a low price point the reason they are not high dollar guitars is there is no middle man such as endorsing people they have to pay, I think Harley benton will begin to take the guitar world over ,when I've purchased my Harley benton guitars from Germany keep in mind I live in springfield, missouri in the usa it took 3 1/2 days on every guitar I've purchase from thomann to ship I mean if I order a guitar from sweetwater, musicians Friend or Chicago music exchange it took the same amount of time to ship me a guitar and musicians friend is 200 miles from me that's where I bought my Kramer striker so with all that being said I believe thomann is a fantastic dealer they have outstanding customer service shipping great I've always had a positive experience with thomann and I will continue to purchase guitars from them not because of the low price I will purchase guitars because they put excellent workmanship in thier guitars and the quality as I've said you just cant beat, dont be afraid to purchase a guitar from thomann you just may be as surprised as I was on the quality and workmanship and you be saying to yourself and probably your friends these are pretty dam awesome guitars
It will settle in after a while.. would be good to apply some wood cleaner.. leave out to dry and then lightly apply fretboard oil… dry and then wipe dry✌️❤️
sick tones man! and great guitar playing! I love my Harley Benton a lot (it is a 7string fanned fret though), I'm currently eyeing the 'les paul' with the P90 pickups and goldtop :)

Sure thing Jason...Hope you are feeling better! You are blessed to haver such a loving wife! ✌💙
If you had a back surgery, please remember, that this is not a lightweight guitar. Cheers
Hi, great playing and review. I have had mine for almost a week now. I have got black fingers from this guitar as well. The fret ends are a little sharp as your example. I think the pickups are quite good for my needs. The nut could do with replacing and is a little high. But a lot of fun for a little money.
lol Black finger tips is a fad these days!!
i love this guys playing
its got a late seventies Larry carlton, lee rittenour kind of vibe to it, elliot randal those kindaguys
very few people pay like that nowadays
✌️❤️
I've had mine for 8 days and love it. I put a black pick guard on and it looks killer. Sounds great, but there are some things I dislike. Otherwise a very cool guitar. All my friends love it.
Thank you for sharing.. what did you not like about the guitar?✌️
In fact, I'm already looking at my next HB.
great playing jonathan !!
Thank you Andy✌️❤️
Just bought this one.Great review and playing as always cheers Jonathen👍
cool!!! Thanks!
played well again. I think it's nice when you play. sounds great. thank you.
Thank you!✌🤓
Another great review. Really enjoy your playing.
Thank you Mark!✌🤓
Awesome playing man
Thank you !✌♥
A lot of guitar for the money! There was a time when I didn't have the best and this would have been the best for me. I'd have taken a file, ever so lightly to dress the end of the frets, cleaned it up, put the best strings on it and I'd adjusted my cheap amp. And made that guitar sing.
Well said!✌♥
Nice one Mr. Koh, love your style of playing and reviewing.
Glad you enjoy it!✌🤓
Gorgeous. I'm really looking at either getting a HB Tele model or perhaps one of their Jazzmaster models. How does the neck profile on the HB Teles compare to the necks on Fenders?
There are many different profiles on these guitars..
Great sound and as always great playing!!! I have two Harley Benton's !! Love both
Thank you very much! ✌♥
I agree Jon, dress all up in black with black boots and black cowboy hat and you’re good to go!
Lol!!... kinda hard to get a black cowboy hat over here 😂
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Paint it Black!!
From Leo: Thank you for this review. I really enjoyed your playing. You are an artist.
Glad you enjoyed it✌🤓
Love the look of this guitar. Thanks mate
My pleasure✌️❤️
A great guitar for it's price, all it needs is new pickups. tuners, pots and switch, fret dress and setup, a typical entry level Harley Benton.
If i was tempted to buy a HB Telecaster, i would look at the higher models, a TE40 or TE90.
Look after it Jonathan, you got the last one, unless they make another batch next year.
lol....I think they know that they will be a seller...I dont think they will take too long😆
@@JonIsJustTooLoud This should make you smile, i have been watching one on ebay, it sold tonight for £143 GBP approx $255 Singapore Dollar, and it was used!
That's better than any branded guitar, the owner had upgraded the tuners and nut.
Harley Bentons that are out of stock are worth selling or keeping until the prices go higher!
@@Barbarapape lol!!! oh man...
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Strange but true, how many more rare HB will they let you have?
Sounds pretty good Jonathan! Keep rocking!👍👍🎸😎
Thanks, you too!✌❤
Great review. I will watch all the others, too..🙌
Thank you ✌️❤️
Beautifully played as always, Jonathan.
Love the sound and look of the guitar.
Thank you Jon✌️❤️
It looks soo awesome. I bought a HB PB-20 SBK and it looks so insanely good with that Matte Black finish so now I have to buy several HB guitars with the same finish 🤣 Even though I have the models I want already I NEED them in that gorgeous finsih. Love your video as always.
Thank you!✌💙

Hi Jonathan,
I've seen countless of your guitar tests: when you play guitar, every guitar seems to sound good. What a delightful guitar playing!
I have a question:
you just tested the new Harley Benton TE 20HH SBK (current price at Thomann: 99 €).
For me, I would prefer the TE 40 TBK✌❤
Blessings to you in the Netherlands if I'm not mistaken. Scotland here.
You are awesome Sir! I'm gonna get this guitar and will do a review myself on my channel. Keep it up! Subbed!
welcome to the channel!!!✌❤
Thank you for sharing✌️❤️
I'd be worried washing that beautifully black fretboard only for it to change colour. Any way to lock in the colour?
It will settle in after a while.. would be good to apply some wood cleaner.. leave out to dry and then lightly apply fretboard oil… dry and then wipe dry✌️❤️
sick tones man! and great guitar playing! I love my Harley Benton a lot (it is a 7string fanned fret though), I'm currently eyeing the 'les paul' with the P90 pickups and goldtop :)
Nice✌️❤️
You play magnificently! I like ur technic of using 3 fingers mostly in ur solos here! Can u make a video of how to play this solo sometime : )
✌️❤️
I had to take off the bridge plate and scrape off the paint so that it was grounded, other than that, very happy.
cool! ✌♥
Dude!!!! This one is fantastic cool!!!
Thank you ✌🤓
Great job as always Jonathan !! :)
Thank you Terry ✌️❤️
Nice guitar, Will buy and make it an Te-20HH Pro, with an few tweak adjustments.
