Oh my goodness...if ever you needed to be shown an example of a truly wonderful kiwi this is the episode for you!
Thank you, Talitha for chatting with me and for sharing so generously, not only your story but your help, support and kindness to those who need it most. Enjoy ❤
Talitha is ONE Amazing Lady.
Talitha: my friend; my hero; my recent houseguest! I've known Talitha for over 10 years when I reached out to her when my partner was first diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. She is a true gem. She answered the hundreds of questions that we had about MG. Last Fall she visited with us all the way from NZ to eastern Canada. Such an inspiring person. Great to hear about the accessible camper as well! Love you Talitha!
How wonderful ❤️
Thank you for sharing your story Talitha. Your positive energy is inspirational. Thank you Liz for this interesting and thoughtful interview!
You are very welcome! Thank you for being with us 😊
I wouldn't be surprised if the classism Talitha experienced was at Pearson Intl. Airport. Two years ago I was seeing my childhood friend off there, and he was traveling business class (visiting Canada on business). He was dressed in a suit and I was dressed for winter (it being winter and all), and when we were walking up to the business class check in desk together, security actually came up to me and wanted to haul/kick me out because they thought I must be harassing him since I clearly was NOT business class.
[Edit: Pearson International Airport is in Toronto]
my very first school friend's parents immigrated to NZ from Holand with his grandmother, an uncle and aunty after the second world war.. lovely people
Thank you for sharing and for being with us 😊
Absolutely awesome Talitha.
Agreed! 😊 Thank you for your support!
Amazing story.
Thank you! Glad that you enjoyed it Robert 😊
Wow, this is so relevant. I am in UK having traveled some way in the last few weeks. I didn't ask for assistance until I booked in. Got wonderful assistance from New Zealand and Singapore airlines and going to faro in Portugal and on to Munich I got wonderful help and was raced through customs and priority on boarding. Excellent. Was happy to ask for assistance. I found the opposite, I booked the aisle seat and they made me sit by the window. I did not tell anyone, was never asked, what was wrong with me.
So glad that this was a helpful podcast for you Ivy! Talitha is a wealth of knowledge and such a wonderful lady 😊
Incredible life and passion for life. So happy for you and really pray your support group will find a way to be funded. And why is this lady not New Zealander of the year?
My thoughts exactly Darren! Thank you for being with us and for your kind words 😊
Thank you Liz this was an awesome story of her life she never gave up from eighteen Taliha is a true kiwi plus she laughs at her self don't know i think it's a New Zealand thing take the piss out of our self it's allgood just think positive not negative it's your life i hate thinking negative hate it but cheers anyway
100% Danial! Laughter eases many ills. So glad that you loved Talitha as much as I do, she's a true kiwi gem 🥰
Loved this 😊
So glad Mel! Thank you for saying hi! 😊
Hiya, is there a page where donations can be made?
Hmmm. that's a good question. I will ask Talitha and get back 😊
@@ItsaDrama Awesome.
I know as a kiwi, born and bred that it is something that we all feel passionate about . Helping others in need is part of our culture. We come together as a community/country and do what we can.
Maybe, set up a give a little page and via that set up some fundraising?
Let me know how you feel about that and if you need anything then please let me know.
I'm curious about this bidding process Talitha mentioned, to get a seat class upgrade. I've traveled long distances cramped into Economy, quite a few times, and it is exhausting for the most robust of people; it's absolutely draining for people with disabilities.
At exactly 24 hours prior to departure you will have online check in with the airline, go on at that point and the option will come up.. have a look at the price an options available, then decide if you want it or not.
@@talithav9357 Ohhhhh. Thanks very much for the info, Talitha!
Very interesting 👍❤️
Gad that you enjoyed it Russell! 😊
I was 18 when my family moved to Canada. I started getting sick when I was 20. I was desperate to go back to NZ and when I was 30, I actually made the plans to have a place to stay in NZ, and bought the plane ticket. But before I could leave for home, I had a complete collapse in health. I was diagnosed with various co-existing conditions and could not work anymore. Since I'd been away from NZ so long at that point, I wouldn't qualify for any Invalid's Benefit or govt help for at least 6 months after arriving back, so I couldn't afford to return home. So now I wait for the big lottery win (weekly $2 ticket😉) so I can afford to go back home for good, and be able to live independently with the help of the (future🤞) lottery winnings.
Thank you for sharing. Good luck with those numbers my friend! 😊
Following up on an earlier comment... The 'a's in Taranaki are all pronounced identically (as they are across all Māori words). For some reason, you say the first two 'a's correctly (similar to "car"), and then in 'naki' you pronounce the 'a' similar to "cat". I hope this is helpful. Cheers.
Thank you Justin. We will remember that 😊
OMG I KNOW HER!!!
Lucky you Talia!! Hope that you enjoyed the episode 😊
'Enabling Good Lives (EGL) is a new approach to supporting disabled people that offers greater choice and control over the supports they receive, so that they can plan for the lives they want.'
"enablinggoodlives." then the first two letters of "coming", then the initials of the country.
Since YT doesn't let people post web addresses anymore.
