It's amazing how something that small can be so strong. You get used to it, but you need to warn people when they want to hold the leash, an unaware adult can easily be pulled along if caught unawares.
I've had beagles throughout most of my life. They are awesome hunters and are very easy to train to hunt. They are very intelligent and are very loving. They make great companions and family pets.
Downfalls- Barking. Beagles want continual attention and will bark at strangers in attempt to gain that persons attention and affection.
Tooth issues- Most small dog breeds have issues with developing bad teeth, especially as they age. If your dogs breath smells like rotten flesh, they've got teeth issues.
Cancer- Cancer is a huge killer of beagles especially in females. Always check your beagle for lumps and bumps especially mammary glands.
Digestion- Never give your beagle a bone that has been cooked. Raw bones are great but cooked bones splinter and can cause major issues. Dogs are meat eaters but the best meat is raw. It helps clean their teeth and the bones will not splinter. Raw chicken, bones and all have never caused an issue for my beagles.
Anal gland expression- Beagles seem to, on occasion, have issues with expressing these glands. If you see your dog hitching their rear end across the floor, they're in discomfort. Many groomers know how to express these glands and are a cheaper option than taking your dog to the vet. If your beagle smells like they've been rolling in something dead and rotten it's likely the anal glad fluid that's been expressed that you are smelling. They will roll in it. Apparently to them it smells like "Gee your hair smells terrific."
Most beagles hate having their feet handled. This makes clipping their nails an issue. As young as you can, start rubbing and handling their feet. Make a habit of it so when it's time to clip their nails it shouldn't be an issue.
Young beagles love to chew. Walmart sells a little hard plastic, dog foot shaped, chew treat that works great. If you don't give them something to chew on they will find something. I don't give my beagles pig ears or rawhide as they can choke on these items. Hope this info helps.

Great video! At 1:20 that is very relatable. Whenever my Beagle sees me he goes crazy, and when I see his legs go flying in the air because he keeps rolling over, I struggle to hold back laughter!

I've had 3 Beagles over the years and they are my most favorite breed. I've found that they all had quite different personalities though. If one gets a younger one-I always rescue- then having a good fence is absolutely essential, they can dig under many fences, so it needs to be well constructed (concrete footings).
I'm glad you called them intelligent- they always seem to get low marks in that category from trainer, primarily because they are strong willed, so its not a lack of intelligence, but they have different priorities.

My beagle was 6 months old and I just got him over parvo and he slipped out of the door when my 15 year old son came in the house when he was getting off the bus, and sadly I was at work coming home and got the phone call that a car hit him as soon as he got out, the person driving was speeding threw the neighbor and sadly he saw that my dog was out but he didn't have time to stop before he hit Snoopy and then my neighbor said that he yelled at the young man who was driving too fast, I was told that Snoopy died almost instantly, the vet reassured me that he felt no pain, cause he's body went into shock and then he fell over and let out his last breath and then I got home and I held him for a while, there was so much blood pouring out of his nose, it was so hard to bury him, I put he's favorite toys in the grave with him, and wrapped him up in a soft blanket, I miss him every day, it's been 2 years now, I felt like I let him down, because I wasn't there for him, but I adopted he's sister and his mother and his father, and gave the 3 a very good home, they were being abused badly by their owners, not being feed, plus Buster, Snoopy dad has copd bronchitis from where they were burning trash near the cage, he has 2 teeth kicked out and they hit him with a belt so hard his hair never grew back, so sadly he is a very aggressive dog who doesn't trust anyone, I can't have any company over or he bites them, so I'm not sure what to do about this?, he has separation anxiety as well as the other 2 dogs, but there not aggressive just shy of people, I don't know what to do about this situation, I would like to have guests over, but it's just impossible because if you put him up he crys the entire time 2hrs straight too the point where guests leave and they don't want to come over, so what can I do to help him get use to people, because he is not quite as bad when he is alone outside of the house, but paired with the other 2, he's more aggressive, so any suggestions would help
That's why you have two beagles, I love dogs and you cannot replace them but you can get more of them I will always have a dog, but beagles are very very sweet! Never had one till now she is the apple of my eye, watches every move I make. And boy can she put on the guilt trips! Just ain't fair 🐾🐶🐾‼️

A fun fact is that their ears have that shape in order to direct particles to their nose, optimizing for their already incredible sense of smell.
Those big floppy ears actually have a purpose. They can help waft a scent into a dogs nose thus increasing their ability to smell faint odors. You see this with other scent hounds like Bassethounds, Bloodhounds, Treeing Walker Coonhounds, etc.

Well actually they dont hunt in a way that they "Kill" they prey. They just search and find them and bark so you know where the thing is whar they found.

I have had my beagle for about 10 months now, and I've never heard him bark like other dogs. Howling is another matter. Yesterday he flushed a rat out of a stack of pallets in my backyard in broad daylight! He almost caught it, too! Awesome dog, very loving & affectionate. I should change his name to Houndini because I haven't found a harness yet that he can't escape from!

We have a Beagle/Weiner dog mix, we call her our tall Weiner dog and she is everything this video says beagles are and more! We can be downstairs in the family room and she will start her small woof, then run upstairs and go nuts at the random animal in our backyard that we can't even see!

You know the best food for a dog is homemade food. I usually feed him two chappatis with 1/4 glass milk and fill the rest with water. If your dog doesn't eat the food, make it eat in a interesting way, I make my beagle jump and eat a few bites when does like that, you can do that your own way but remember pedigree, dog food and all that isn't that healthy...

Hi✨ I Love your videos soo much and it really help me when I train my little beagle. I just wanted to ask if there is a type of beagle that looks smaller like my beagle is 7 and a half months old but she still look like a 4-5month old beagle. So is there other type of beagles?
Beagles come in 2 sizes:
1. Under 13 inches at the shoulder
2. 13 to 15 inches at the shoulder.
If your beagle looks small then he probably is the small sized beagle. You can check out our HOW TO IDENTIFY A PURE BRED BEAGLE video to confirm.

Yay! I am early! I am a biiig fan of you. Can you please do a video about How to make beagle dogs happier and energetic? Because my beagle (1 year old) is really lazy and I cannot have a moment to train her because she sleeps ALL DAY LONG!! (except for evenings when I am busy sometimes..) So pls make a video of it. My beagle is the best, but the first 4 months where horrible, he needed like 10 to 15 times a day to go out, I couldn't sleep more than 8 hours, I couldn't go anywhere, because he would destroy everything. I've been training him with a dog trainer since we got him, and since like 3 months he is being a "good" dog, he still doesn't come every time if you call him and destroys nearly everything, at home you can't have ANYTHING at jump height or it will be destroyed.
People say it's because he doesn't use all his energy up, but I do like 6 walks a day, 30 min at morning and eve, 40 min when I come from work, 40 min 2h later and 1h at afternoon to go play with his friends running every moment. I love him a lot but it's a real challenge, DON'T GET A BEAGLE IF YOU HADN'T HAD A DOG BEFORE
I agree with the intelligence part but most important is to not view your beagle as you would any basic breed they have a self awareness only shared by a few breeds so be prepared to become mentally attached to your beagle they are almost psychic
My beagle is the most un-beagle beagle. He's lazy and quiet, rarely ever barks.

I have a question for you. I have 2 adult beagles 9 & 5 yrs old, recently got a lemon pup hes 11wks old. The 5 yr old likes the pup always 1st 1 to see why he's crying checks on him in his sleep but wants nothing to do with him when he's awake. Any ideas on why?
