    Gonna have to check this in the morning... I've been thinking it was a lifter tick.

  • @blastmanutz7798
    @blastmanutz7798 Рік тому +28

    My stance is this - for what I care, the engine can click and tick all it wants, as long as it doesn't affect performance and lifespan. If this issue is non problematic for long term use, whatever then.

      A normally loud engine hides bad noises when they happen. Example being a failed rocker arm.

    I have a clicking much louder on cold start-up but goes away after the car starts. It's almost sounds like loud valves with no oil, but I just replaced the oil and like I said goes away after startup. Makes me think it's the starter, but never heard one sound like that before. My Acura made that annoying clicking sound. Suggestions? I thought is was loose valves, but could have been the save Evap issue.

    I have a similar problem with my Q7 2018 Prestige. When the car was new the noise was barely noticeable, but now it became really annoying.
    On top of that, I can hear a clack, clack, clack noise, from inside the car, it seems to be caused by a spinning part. The noise subsides completely when I put the car in neutral. Any idea what could that be?

      Yes, it's a VERY common issue unfortunately, plagues a lot of Audi and VW owners! But at least this way you can diagnose that it's definitely this causing that noise, so you don't have to worry too much about it :-)

  • @SteremyJeele
    @SteremyJeele 11 місяців тому +1

    Maybe a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway, since this noise annoys me on a daily basis on my B9 S5 - Is there any mechanical harm in wrapping the device with some foam to deaden the sound? I presume as it's a purge VALVE, there needs to be some ability for gasses to escape, so I'd assume you wouldn't wrap the whole thing, but would partially wrapping it help to reduce the annoying clack to some degree?
    Just feels a little silly to buy a sporty luxury car and have it sound like a tractor. If not, I suppose I could use it as an excuse to get a louder exhaust to drown it out.

    I've got exactly the same noise on a 2007 A4 3.2 FSI. Its a slightly different setup under the cover on mine, and the noise seems to be coming straight through the rocker covers. Came on pretty suddenly and is there all the time now. It's very worrying but doesn't sound like chain rattle. Are there any other common causes of this?

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  Рік тому

      Hey there! As you mentioned it was coming from under the rocker covers, it could be a bad rocker arm. Those tend to make a distinct loud clicking when they start to fail. Not the easiest job, but absolutely doable DIY. It it is a rocker arm, you will want it done quickly. You may want to do some Google research into this to help ensure this is what you are likely hearing. Best of luck with it!
