  • Gardening with a dog on my UK allotment plot and in the home garden - weekly diary/vlog of our exploits beginning Jan 2023 🌽🍓🥦
    I finally get around to harvesting the onions as well as a few carrots for the bunnies, the last of the garlic, and a big gooseberry hall. An update on the walled vegetable garden at Woodbrooke study centre. But first I propagate some of my houseplants while it is raining.
    Chocolate Courgette Cake Recipe (as I remember it....):
    275g soy milk with a splash of lemon juice
    100g sugar
    1 tsp vanilla essence
    45g vegetable oil
    (Mix together well)
    250g plain flour
    2 tsp baking powder
    pinch of salt
    50g cocoa
    (Sieve together)
    Stir through 100g grated courgette and as many chocolate chips as you like. Add the wet into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
    Bake in a loaf tin in a pre-headed over at GM4 for 50-60 minutes.

    Another wonderful vlog on your gardens. I much to do but a joy to do it I am certain. I had never seen artichokes before and wouldn't of recognized what they were. In fact, I thought you were pulling out tumblers. Lol Dorie is very sweet. Thank you for taking the time to share your garden with us as you are a delight to listen to. God bless.

    😂 good excuses all 👍. We had a day and a half of rain finally but it had its drawbacks I wasn’t prepared for it and the toms took a hit but I think they are ok 🤞. We only grow red potatoes as it’s our favourite. I grow all my potatoes in pots so I don’t stab them 🤭🤭. It’s hard to believe it’s almost August, like we’ve been on fast forward since June 1st. A lovely update Kerry and Dory, happy gardening and have a super week, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦

      Oh hope your toms pulled through. I know what you mean about it being nearly August - feel so behind that I've stopped worrying about it now 🤣- have a good week too. 😊

    Ohhh I feel a garden centre trip coming on I need some xmas spuds!! 🙌🥔 I have a roll of bubble wrap collecting dust that can be put to use too!! Such a shame about the bolted onions, the weather is playing havok with the plants this year!! Lovely video 🌱😊

      Always happy to encourage a garden centre visit!! Not to worry- onions taste good and I don't have to fuss about storing 🤣 - all good! Have a lovely week - thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 😊

    Loads of fruit harvested Kerry 👏👏 and the red onions are more difficult to grow, so dont worry about it 💚 you have still a little harvest at the end of it 😊 I've had a Actinidia Kolomikta growing as a companion plant with the climbing rose for nearly a decade, the leaves are pretty, but not cold tolerant. It wont die and wont flourish either 😅 so I've just left it be....and we co-exist in the garden 😀 Have a great weekend, best wishes Maiju 💚🌿

      Maybe I'll stick with brown/white onions next year - altho very tempted by the pink panther variety. The Actinidia Kolomitka does have such pretty leaves - but I'll take edible fruits over pretty leaves IF these ones ever crop... 🤞🤞 Have a lovely weekend too - sounded from your vlog that you've got a busy time ahead!

    I are always buying plants 😂 even if we don’t have any idea where they are going.
    I made double chocolate courgette muffins over the weekend. Sooo delicious. Have to make more, but like you my courgettes are running late…. And I’m on the lookout for folks giving them away at present.
    Great looking red spuds; I’m going to give them a go next year after seeing your recommendation. I have had international kidney and love them, second earlies and left some in for mains too x
    Off out the back garden to take pics of the sunset 🌅 it’s beautiful c

      Yes, I saw your courgette cakes - they looked very good! My cake got dry quite quickly, but was nice fresh. Had to look up 'international kidney' but I see that's the name for jersey royals not grown in Jersey! Thank you for the recommendation. Have a good week 😊

      It'll be interesting to see how the onions grown from seed come along - there's some way to go yet though!

    Red onions are notorious for bolting .You could give them a 5x hotel with room service and they would still bolt Kerry so nothing you did x

      When growing red onions from sets its best to purchase a heat treated variety and it reduces the risk of them bolting .

    Kerry, Dorie looks beautiful. Loved watching you separate your mother-in-laws tongue (Dracaena trifasciata). One of my favs. I purchased one in 2018 and it has produced many babies and is all over my house. When you said ‘how do I separate this…I’ll google it.’ I was telling you how and you repeated everything I said. 🪴 My mom’s were from soil level four foot tall trying to reach the sun in the window above them. I put lights above mine and they quickly grew taller. Thank you for sharing your life! 🙋🏻‍♀️

      @dogontheplot  Рік тому +1

      Ah good - glad I got it right!! I don't tend to put mine near the window - it has to make do with rather limited lighting, actually - hmm... Thank you for watching 😊

    I love you put the snails and slugs in the compost heap but haven't you had any trouble with them laying their eggs in it. They lay 100s of eggs 😬

    • @dogontheplot
      @dogontheplot  Рік тому +1

      Haha - you know, I've really not thought all that much about them reproducing. Weirdly, I inherited these 'snail chimneys' in the garden - little ceramic chimneys where snails live. I've no clue why these would be a good thing... I've tried googling it but never found out. I put one near the pond as I thought perhaps the idea is they would congregate there and then get eaten by frogs, but I don't know...
