The fact that someone took the time perfect a method for mounting posters, then took the time to share it…thank you for that. Mounting posters is one of those things that seems easy, but it is not!
Great tutorial. I had to mount two posters in two separate poster frames ( the ones with the acrylic front, cardboard backing and the plastic slide on clips) and I was dreading the mounting part of my posters. Came out great. Couldn't find 3M 45 so bought 3M 77 and worked consciously watching my time.I let it dry for about a minute before sticking the poster down. Couldn't find a brick so I used masking tape to hold the poster in the correct position. Don't have sheets of newspaper so I bought a roll of painters masking paper, worked great. The technique of masking, folding and spraying are the important parts. I even did the arm wave after spraying. Thank you for helping me out WisdomScenes.
I bet reason the glue gets on the poster on your second spray is that you’re right handed and it’s a different angle. If you flip the board around so that the part you’re sparing the same angle as the first go round, no glue should get on the poster. Thank you for the tutorial it’s the best one I’ve found and gonna go with this method.
This worked out great for me! First time I watched a video and used the specific technique shown. Thank you for the time you took to spread your knowledge.
I followed his instructions to a T and my poster turned out perfectly. I did a practice poster first which gave me a little practice and then did my "real" poster. Thank you so much--it looks great!
Thank you! I'm a teacher and I want to tell you that your step-by-step instructions were very clear and well thought out. I have never done this before and my poster turned out perfectly! This has been such a helpful tutorial. I like to do things carefully and I never would have figured this out on my own. Only down side: as I type this I can tell I got spray glue all over my chrome book. Oh well! :)
after arrogantly FAILING by winging it once, I watched this video 3 times to figure out why and how this approach would work......it gave me the CONFIDENCE to forge ahead and SUCCEED!!!! This guy offers a detailed roadmap to a pro job......really!!......HIM ROCK!!!!!........... if you follow it carefully. THANK YOU for the gift of pleasure and accomplishment!!!
Thank you SO much for this tutorial. With your instruction, I was able to fix a very large poster that had ripples in it under the glass. I was able to affix it to the back board and make it smooth. It now looks wonderful. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Followed your instructions to the letter for one-sheet movie posters, but I used the 77 spray. Could not easily source 45 in Canada. Worked perfectly. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for this tutorial. You've probably saved me countless $$ paying an art adviser. Going for my bricks now...(once part of my hs..) but where I first became an art collector. Your instuctutorials are pivotal and you should know what a contribution they are. TY for the help.vI can say.
Thanks for the video, probably saved me alot of time with trial and error of what works, i was going to try and spray the entire back of the print and then put in on the foamcore, your technique is obviously more effective.
Nice job!!! For the first half of the poster, you are using your left hand to spray the glue onto the poster. For the second half of the poster, you use your right hand and are standing at a different angle. If you turn the board around and use the same technique for the second half of your poster (the same as your first half) this will ensure you get no glue underneath on the second half.
This is just sooo helpful. I mounted several images of different sizes using this method and I always go back to it before I'm about to start on a fresh lot of work, like now. Thanks so much.
I did this and overall it came out good but I did have problems. First, make sure you use very soft toweling to smooth the poster down as the ones I used scratched the poster. I switched to Viva paper towels and they worked well. Second, my poster had a bit of a curl to it and the 2nd half would not lay down flat while I sprayed it with glue. I had to hold it down with one finger, and inevitably got glue on it. No worries, though, as the job was easy to complete with just one hand. Third, I don't know why but the finished project did have a few bumps in it which, unfortunately, are highly visible under oblique lighting. I have no idea why this happened, and since the guy who did the video doesn't seem to be answering questions, I'm not likely to learn why. Just be aware that it can happen. Good luck!
thank you for your patients in finding the best way to complete this task.. I'm going to try your method for making my mother in law a Christmas present. .. she's hard to buy for so I make hers ..
This is a great video. You really make me feel like you've been there and are trying to save me some time, and who doesn't appreciate that! About to try this out for the VR Production company I work at. Thank you very much for the advice :)
Very helpful, I was wondering how to accomplish this. I was given some old framed "corporate" posters from work and I want to reuse the foam board and matte.
I noticed you were using some small, square wiping implements you referred to only as "things." What are these "things" you speak of? Where can i find them? Also, does the adhesive tend to drift more on the first half and then be prone to seepage on the latter? Oh, and which section of the newspaper were you using? I personally used the classifieds for weeks to no avail, until it dawned on me that I should be using the arts section. Live and learn, I suppose. Overall, great tutorial. It's really gotten me excited about gluing stuff to other stuff. For future tutorials, please for the sake of your viewers, let us know what section to use. I incurred a criippling amount of debt subscribing to multiple newspapers both domestic and foreign. -A True Fan :)
Thanks, great instructions. If you DO get a bit of spray glue on the front of the poster, you can clean it off with cotton and a solvent like BESTINE or any rubber cement thinner.
Great Video! I accidently or not accidently sprayed the foam board with glue first then set the poster which turned out terribly causing huge bubbling! I will try this way and let you know how it goes!
Does it matter if you spray the board or the poster? I sprayed the poster and then placed it on the board. After a couple minutes the board started to curl up a bit. Thoughts?
Sir, cane you mount on plywood that’s ( 60x40) , poster as large of Plywood. Should I use same glue stay? And can & how to clean plywood. It’s been setting in my dining room & I use to be a smoker, Thanks for u feed back.
I realize this was published three years ago, but I'm hoping the author, or someone who knows the answer, will get this. I have two pieces printed as banners (not posters) by Staples. The resulting surface is plastic, not paper. Do you know if the 3M general purpose adhesive 45 works on this type of material?
It should work the same. If the back is particularly smooth/glossy you could sand it very lightly with fine grit sand paper (such as 180 grit.) This will give the glue more to adhere to without making the back actually rough, just make sure to wipe it off before applying the glue.
there's a lot of other videos of this that are done very poorly. This method seems like it's very clean but like the other poster said it doesn't look like there's much glue in the middle section. Thanks for the video.
No matter what I do I eventually get big or at least small bubbles a few days later. Yes I roll it flat religiously and use ample spray glue. I am very frustrated as I appear to be doing it well?
hi! can i ask ... and to do the reverse ? ... unglue a poster ... is it possible ... could anyone give me some tips ?!!! Thank You so so so so much Filipe
One comment: Spray mounting (or dry mounting) should NEVER be used with any poster or print that has any value. Once mounted in this way, a poster can never be removed and these mothods also destroys a poster's value and "collectability."
Lay your poster board down on the table, Take a thick piece of plastic pre cut larger then the poster board with a cut out the size of the poster your are pasting down on the poster board, Lay that plastic piece over the poster board and line up the cut out "which is the same size as the poster" over the poster board and line it up directly where you want the poster placed, Then spray the poster board with your adhesive putting a nice thin coat, Remove the plastic piece and place your poster directly over the area "which would be shinny and the exact same size as the poster" then take your 'Tool" which is a rubber squeegee tool and running that tool over the poster, I like to use a painters edge tool sold at lowes for $3 because it has little hairs/bristles on it and glides right over the poster with ease. Hope this makes sense wish i could actually explain it better because this method is such a easy method and it takes no time to master and repeat over and over again with the same results every time. You method is nice but i see lots of mistakes and a mess afterwards. I bet both methods work fine and all but maybe try this method i am certain you will switch the way you do things right afterwards.
The fact that someone took the time perfect a method for mounting posters, then took the time to share it…thank you for that. Mounting posters is one of those things that seems easy, but it is not!
Excellent instruction! I've looked and looked and your video is by far the best.

Well, wow to how you placed it perfectly on the posterboard! Smart idea! Thank you for sharing a part of your genius!

Thank you for sharing! Your thorough instructions were very helpful to make 40 professional posters for exhibition.

This looks perfect. I don’t have anyone to help me and a brick doesn’t talk back. Perfect! Thank you!!!
I've used your technique a couple of times now for education posters used in our hospital. It works great! Thank you for taking time to share.
Thank you for going to the trouble to make this video, and helping me avoid the mistakes I surely would have made trying to mount a large map.
Followed your instructions to the letter for one-sheet movie posters, but I used the 77 spray. Could not easily source 45 in Canada. Worked perfectly. Thank you for posting this.
Worked like a charm - great tutorial! Had ZERO problems!
Thanks for a great video!

Great Video! Easily the best on UA-cam for this topic!
Beautifully explained and generous instructions, thank you.
Excellent video. Much better than any of the others I have seen. Seems like a fault-free process if you follow it as instructed.
I did my project using your technique and it came out perfectly. Thank you.
Great instructional video. I need to mount a map and this gave me the confidence to get it done correctly. Thanks!
Thanks for the great video....I had only one chance to get it right...and thanks to your method...perfect.
This is just sooo helpful. I mounted several images of different sizes using this method and I always go back to it before I'm about to start on a fresh lot of work, like now. Thanks so much.
Thank you for putting together such a detailed tutorial. I just used your methods with Excellent results!

Great advice, I just mounted a poster in this way, works like a charm!
Thanks!
Very helpful, I was wondering how to accomplish this. I was given some old framed "corporate" posters from work and I want to reuse the foam board and matte.
Good demonstration - thanks for taking the time and sharing...I am certain you just saved me a headache and/or wasting both time and posters.
I did mine just like this and all my very expensive print poster turned out great
Thanks so much
First time mounter and it came out great!! I just hope it holds!! I used some loc-tite poster mounting spay... Thanks
Thanks! I'm going to try this to get a map poster onto a board.

The brick really did it for me.
perfect, I will try your method over dry mount tissue. Thanks
Thanks, great instructions. If you DO get a bit of spray glue on the front of the poster, you can clean it off with cotton and a solvent like BESTINE or any rubber cement
thinner.
Great tutorial and a big help !
Thank you for sharing your technique, I have some Van Gogh posters I want to put onto board or canvas...
OMG! It works. Thank you so very much for sharing!
Great Video! I accidently or not accidently sprayed the foam board with glue first then set the poster which turned out terribly causing huge bubbling! I will try this way and let you know how it goes!
Thanks for this, very nicely done and really informative.
can you take come off after spraying? like over a while if put it straight on the wall can I take it off later?
Thanks for the tutorial. Do you leave it like that or do you trim off the white board on the bottom. Also how do you hang this up?
Esther Ojediran Simple. Spray the adhesive on the wall. I can't keep giving this stuff away for free. Trade secret. ;)
Excellent video. I appreciate all the ideas you helped me have. :)
Great video. Thank you for sharing!

the spray adhesive dose not wrinkle the paper?
I really needed this video! GREAT WORK!
Great advice thks. I have a 3m x 1m poster to fix so I need to get it right first time!!
Great video. Now I am sure I can complete my poster project. Thanks for taking the time to show us your method.
Seems like right in the middle where you fold it over, might not get much glue, if any.
twilightzonepinball He does say to go "more than halfway" so that should cover it.
Thanks it worked really well!
When UA-cam is actually useful.
Very helpful, thanks you for sharing.
there's a lot of other videos of this that are done very poorly. This method seems like it's very clean but like the other poster said it doesn't look like there's much glue in the middle section. Thanks for the video.
Where do you get newspaper today?
Great video, thanks.
Does the spray work on paper materials only? How about non paper?
Would you do anything differently if it was a larger format, like 6x4 feet?
Jae Clarke IMHO you cannot find 4 x 6 ft foam core. If you do, use TYVEK for the slip sheets.
saved me some money!👍🏾
Cool video
No matter what I do I eventually get big or at least small bubbles a few days later. Yes I roll it flat religiously and use ample spray glue. I am very frustrated as I appear to be doing it well?
Helpful. Thank you!
What kind of spray is that?
Thanks. Very Good.
Where can one get newspapers? :)
hi! can i ask ... and to do the reverse ? ... unglue a poster ... is it possible ... could anyone give me some tips ?!!!
Thank You so so so so much
Filipe
I couldn’t imagine buying an expensive and rare poster and rubbing it vigorously with rough paper towel like that.
You wouldn't use this method for vintage posters, this is for modern prints
Thank you
Thank you! Works great:)
clever
Couldn't you just put the brick inside a clothe case, like a pillow case or something?
Way cool
