Just found your channel about building a board on board cedar fence and I've got to say, it is amazing work! My grandpa was a carpenter and built cabinets and pretty much anything from scratch, including the backyard privacy fence that I'm looking at replacing, similar to the one you and your husband built. Now I understand how much work, time, and effort goes into making such beautiful pieces. Love the results!
Super impressed with all the new tools! Secondly, your welding skills have improved immensely-including your love for all that Texas heat...gotta be a mother to wear all the safety gear! He really took care of you during all of the extreme heat. Hats off to a real Texas gentleman who loves his wife!! Proud of both of ya...Willie too!! Oh Yeah, the fire dept's sending over some applications for you two to fill out!
I made all my friends subscribe to you after watching only 3 videos, I love you, but Im married with 3 children so in a sisterly and brotherly way lol Thanks and please keep making videos like this and the slab and the coop... my wife and I find it as inspiration.... we are building a sustainable homestead on our newly purchased 3.45 acres and love watching you together..... god bless you and yours......
Love it!! I am a single woman, and have to do it myself, ugh!! You made it look so easy, I just wanted to say “thank you for the motivation “!! I really need a new fence, and hope I can find the supplies that I can afford, beings I’m on a super tight budget. I don’t want to use wood, due to rotting, and I’m looking for something that will last for years! I have learned to use electric tools since I have become single, and I am very proud of myself. I am excited to begin my privacy fence, and can’t wait to see my weenie dog enjoy running around in the yard. (And to bring back my privacy!). Thanks again, wish me luck 🍀 😂💕
I want to use poles like that, due to the price,& longevity because they won’t rot but I saw where I can buy poles “in a bundle” and it will last longer. I am so impressed with your work and smart idea!❤. I hope you don’t mind me watching your video 100 times, lol! I’m trying to figure out how to attach the 2X4’s to the steel/metal poles. Gotta do it myself, but ❤the ingenuity you came up with. U R SO SMART. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your input… peace and love from Alabama country.
Yup! He's a keeper! You're an inspiration April! Just wish I had your energy. I can't imagine working in that heat. I'm from Minnesota and anything over 80 degrees I'm dying of heat exhaustion.
WHO the heck would give this video a "thumbs down" ... ???? Geeeeezus this woman is so very talented .... She will tackle most anything !!! AMAZING lady
Great Job April, as a shop teacher let me say THANK YOU for wearing the proper safety equipment when using the power tools. There are a number of your contemporaries that don't always so I am hesitant to show my classes some of their videos. Keep up the great work.
Tip: Use a wind sock on your microphone. The outdoor news reporting folks have these kinds of microphones. I use wire wheels or wire cups from Harbor Freight for rust removal, esp on curves. Fantastic job on the fence, April! You have a great partner in your husband. What a nice man!
It's job like this that cost a lot of time (and money) but gives you the most satisfaction! quick audio tip for the wind: try using a low cut (or high pass) filter to get rid of the rumble. keep up the good work!
Good man right there! Also, you don't have to grind that paint off, if it's just paint or even galvanized you could get by with a flap disc. Less sparks and easier to manage if you're new to the grinding world. You have came so far in your creative workings!
My God! You are awesome! I saw Pt 2 first and was completely impressed. I had no idea that in addition to all the work in Pt 2 you also had 4" metal pipe you had to cut and weld. I try to do very complete work on my projects but that cutting and welding in addition to everything else put you in a league of your own!!! Damn, girl, that was awesome! I don't want to offer my approval because that always seems condescending to me. Rather I'd like to offer my total appreciation and respect!
April,, When HGTV or DIY network steals you away and gives you your own show will you still remember us you tubers? :D You are awesome. I love the fact that you are not afraid to try anything. keep up the great work and thanks!
No doubt that you are one tallented gal!! I can understand you working the heat as I live across the state line north, just 8 miles south of Kansas on Hwy 75.See the lake west of the hwy.Any way, please be careful when welding that you use compete coverage as the ultraviolet light that the welder gives off will burn your skin worse that the sun. I was a Navy welder in the early 70's. I enjoy your videos. I will be retiring in a couple of years and want to do some small woodworking projects, so I will probably be asking you a few questions now and then. Keep up the good work. You are an asset to the wood working field.
Great job april, Only tip i have for mig welding I have is keep the mig torch close to the weld for 10 or so seconds so the protective gas can coat the weld. other than that amazing job. I love metal working and had went to welding school. But now thanks to you i recently invested into impact drivers and drills and attempting to build a nice coffee table and workbench. thank you for so much inspiration. :)
It's been so hot, April. I don't know how you've been doing all of that in this heat--especially the welding. I give you a lot of credit for that. (I'm a displaced Yankee, though, so I usually wilt when the thermostat hits 90°.) Still, I started sweating just watching you work in your welding attire. That fence is going to look great from the sound of it. I'm anxious to see the rest of the progress. It was nice to see your husband helping you like that. You're right. You found a keeper. You're doing a great job. Drink a lot of water and watch out for the mosquitos.
Looks great! Extending the poles is a nice touch. The builder that did our fence was also extremely careless. We are dreading the redo but are now a bit more motivated.
Eek, good luck! It's a lot of hard work but it's something I really enjoyed. If my fence wasn't in such bad shape I would have waited until it was cooler though. It's a ton of savings doing it yourself!
It is all about the team work; I love it! I really enjoy watching your video's and wish they could be longer. its enjoyable when the explanations are short and to the point like yours. to many try to show superior knowledge by over explaining every detail of what the are doing; your methods are so much nicer to sit through. As a fellow DIY'er, I don't watch so much to learn but just let my inner child be the watcher i have always been. Its a great way to build a library of information to help ideas and solutions come out when needed. As soon as you said you would be extending the posts i knew you had this project in planning for a while and now see why you got the welder and practiced with it. as a personal note, i would have saved the old bolts and only replaced or added what was needed but, that is only because i am a believer in not letting good, usable materials go to waist. read that as, "I'm don't have a lot of expendable cash," lol. Keep up the great work and I'll be watching for your next video! I would wish you good luck on your project but you have the skills that don't rely on luck!
I'm glad you enjoy the videos! I wanted to make this video longer but it's such a huge job that I wasn't able to finish the next step before it was time to edit and produce the video so it's being pushed to next week. :) Since the previous owner used carriage bolts, it would have been waaaay too much work to try and save them. I would have had to pull each picket off the old stringers to expose the head then hammer each one out. Since I didn't want to use carriage bolts on the new fence there was no incentive for going through the effort. However, I hear ya about upcycling when possible!
April we need to have a talk about grinder safety procedures. Gloves and sleeves. Google grinding wheel accident. Love the welding addition to your videos. Stay safe.
In that kinda heat screw the DIY i'd be in that pool, absolutely love that even when faced with a daunting task or something sightly outside of your comfort zone you dive in feet first and don't let it deter you from attempting the task at hand massive props I love watching all the female makers like yourself and Laura Kampf :)
Really, you are very talented ,very efficient lady i seen in my life.I watched your all the videos. All are good.Highly appreciating. Thanks for uploading.
You did more work I would have been wiling to do on a fence. It's turning out AMAZING! Good thing you have a variety of DIY skills for all the different things you want to do, to upgrade the fence.
Well to hire the job out would cost close to 11K, so I don't mind putting in the work to save a lot of money. Glad you're liking it so far! Yeah, this project was really really cool because all the things I've been learning over the past few years really came together. : )
building a fence can be very satisfying, almost a pity that the poles were pre existing. i'd like to see how you approach setting out new poles. Cory is a lucky bloke, nice fellas are a dime a dozen but gorgeous gals who can build and weld can only be found at the place hens teeth come from. love your work. cheers
So jealous of your fence having the posts already set. I'm still working on my fence that I started in back in Feb...its just too hot in the summer to be digging holes here in Georgia.
This must be a very popular type of fencing in the F.W. area. My dad had the same type in his backyard. Looking forward to part 2 April. Looks good so far.
Part 1 alone earned you a new SUB! WOW! I plan on doing the same now. Honestly speaking, I only planned on a simple dog ear. Not good enough after watching this vid. Awesome work!
I think you have a little too much fun during the demo portion of your projects! It's a good thing you're good at the making part too. A cute red headed Texan with a chainsaw, mig welder, and Rosie the Riveter helmet is a lot to take in, kiddo. ;-). Fence is looking good. Can't wait to see it complete. I don't know if you did or not, but for everyone else, this is where you want to use that type of welder with flux core, not shielding gas. If you use gas with wind like that, you're not going to get a great weld because the wind is blowing the gas away, but you could weld all day in a wind storm with flux core.

Very nice, neat idea for the posts they are not going anywhere. Makes a good strong fence . Great job April !, Better watch out for Cody he's going to want to use the welder you are getting some nice tools Best regards BobLee
i've put a few fences up in my time, string and a sprit level are your best friends!! but score on not having to put in the posts. i hated that last time as the ground was full of bricks and other rubble as the house was the last built and the ground was originally the storage yard for the builders.
Just now watched Pt 1 can't wait to see pt 2 . Mean while I dont know who the negative thumbs downers are in this world, but it just shows that unfortunately some people dont deserve to leave their opinion because obviously it is absolutely worthless what it does show is the bad nature of some people I know we should not bother to focus on those types but it gets me really bad and boy I wish they could all be old schooled with a good old fashioned whooping. April we love you, you are awesome and we enjoy you enjoying the work and projects you take on, absolutely outstanding and inspiring to say the least, :)
: ) Haha thank you Mike. I always appreciate your kind words and encouragement. Part 2 was released today so check it out if you want an update on my progress.
I really enjoy your videos. You love what you do and your work is amazing. I've been following you for a while now and then took a break from UA-cam. Now I see how far you've come in your projects and it's exciting. For the life of me, I can't even imagine someone giving you a thumb's down rating...it really surprises me. Thanks for all you do and for sharing it all with us.
Awesome! I have also saved money purchasing from my local hardware store. It makes me so happy. I always check there first and even if it is a little more than the box store, I save that in gas🤷
I see you had fun "kicking" off this video series! :P Great job as always April! Looking forward to the rest of these til the completion! Happy Sunday! ;)
Wow, that's a lot of work April. God bless the previous owner for having a footing done for ya. Yup, I definitely think Cody is a keeper, you two are so sweet together!!
No entiendo nada de lo que habla pero cuando explica con sus manos y apunta me imagino lo que dice. me encantó la mujer se nota que sabe y lo hace muy bien.

Credit for your narrating in your videos, this is what keeps me interested, simply because everything is explained in a relaxed but precise manner
Great Job April, as a shop teacher let me say THANK YOU for wearing the proper safety equipment when using the power tools. There are a number of your contemporaries that don't always so I am hesitant to show my classes some of their videos. Keep up the great work.
Your work ethic is amazing. And the final product of your fence is beautiful! It must be a great source of pride.
Thank you! Yes I'm extremely proud of it.

I like that you're incorporating metal work with your wood expertise, it'll definitely make you a better fabricator.
She has amazing ambition, .... So UN-HEARD of, these days ......

Kody knows he's got a keeper. I'm glad he's good to you.
Nice work on fence very ambitious. Kudos!
WOW you are quite the catch! Your husband is a blessed man for sure! Thanks for all your great videos.
Thank you for using Binford Supply for this project. The fence turned out great!
I have been watching your movies is there anything you cant do.Your are a true talent keep up the good work.
Looking forward to Part 2! I hope there are at least a dozen of them. So cool to see the whole fence redone!
Your narration is well thought out and concise. Great job
April, I think that welder is really going to come in handy. It's fun to watch you build. Great video, thanks!
Oh yeah, I am going to use the welder like crazy! I'm really excited about diving into another trade.
I love how you are not afraid to tackle certain jobs

sorry, I must of lost the carriage bolt part and thought you replaced old lag bolts; its all good. Looking forward to seeing the completed project! :)
April we need to have a talk about grinder safety procedures. Gloves and sleeves. Google grinding wheel accident. Love the welding addition to your videos. Stay safe.
Oh wow!! I just found your channel and I can’t stop watching!! Amazing! It inspires me to learn how to build more things! Very empowering!
Great project video, and definitely love the teamwork effort. I always enjoy when my wife wants to build something with me.
April You have inspired me to build my own fence... you are Great!!
That is really a big project. Wishing you finish soon & safely.
Stringers only need to be level if the ground is, parallel to ground and each other is what your after...love your videos by the way
Really, you are very talented ,very efficient lady i seen in my life.I watched your all the videos. All are good.Highly appreciating. Thanks for uploading.
love the end cody using the umbrella to cover her awsome couple and never seen before your pool love it
Chainsaws, bandsaws and welders oh my!
I'm excited to see how it turns out.
Awesome improvement. I have wanted to try welding maybe one day I will stumble across a good deal on a welder. Can't wait for part Two.
You did more work I would have been wiling to do on a fence. It's turning out AMAZING! Good thing you have a variety of DIY skills for all the different things you want to do, to upgrade the fence.

As she coolly and calmly states "You may start a few fires", it's nice to have a laugh on a sunny Sunday. Thank You
You are amazing. I found your tv show, before I came across your your tube channel. Love watching you on your tv show.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
building a fence can be very satisfying, almost a pity that the poles were pre existing. i'd like to see how you approach setting out new poles. Cory is a lucky bloke, nice fellas are a dime a dozen but gorgeous gals who can build and weld can only be found at the place hens teeth come from. love your work. cheers
@idawanna dance 🤔 Why wouldn't she?
April is an incredibly skilled and ambitious creator.
So jealous of your fence having the posts already set. I'm still working on my fence that I started in back in Feb...its just too hot in the summer to be digging holes here in Georgia.
AMEN .... Fall/Winter is smarter
love a women who is a hands on with stuff like this
Great job
Kudos for welding in that heat! That Cody is alright. :)
: ) Haha yeah, he's alright.
This must be a very popular type of fencing in the F.W. area. My dad had the same type in his backyard. Looking forward to part 2 April. Looks good so far.
Yeah I agree, almost everywhere I drive people are throwing up board on board. We wanted it for the complete privacy.
And give that keeper of yours a cold Blue Moon. I thinks he's earned it. Troy
Great time and money saver on the pre-staining of the fence material. Looking good.
Thanks! yeah I was happy about the time saved by having it prestained.
Excellent work .U have born talent to do this types work. GOD bless u!
I hadn't thought of welding an extension to the posts. I have a 4 foot chain-link fence that I would like to replace with 6 foot wood. I was thinking of using larger diameter steel posts to slip over the existing ones, or smaller diameter ones that would slip inside them. Welding 2-foot extensions to each post would certainly be cheaper. Great idea!
Thanks for participation in the discussion with valuable suggestions.
LOL "Taking a shortcut" ..cue the chainsaw. So cool. Cody is a lucky dude.
Bout to do a fence exactly like this myself super helpful!!!
2 p.m. love what you've done. This fence is beautiful. Much love from Kentucky
April, he's got the keeper! You're my hero!
@April, best security tip for welding I know: never leave welding place before 30 minutes till go by. Just in case something will start to burn.
I need a higher fence like that around my yard...fences make GREAT neighbors.
Yes!I agree.
Especially if you weld on a couple of M60 machine gun mount points, just-in case LOL!
...and guard towers, a moat, and razor wire! I Should have just bought a house out in the country, haha.
+StormLaker1975 what's the standard depth for a missile silo?
Not sure...I'll ask my dad, he was in the Air Force- worked on repairing missile complexes in North Dakota before he got out, haha. You can actually buy abandoned missile sites in the Dakotas, Nebraska, etc.
Unbelievable woman! U are so good for your hands! And u make very good videos!
I have watched a few of your videos and all I can say is...I think I love you!!!
Ваши видео смотрю уже давно. Вы молодец,получается здорово.
Hi April,
You have a great start on the project. Your welding skills are coming in handy. I was going to mention that Cody was a keeper, and right at the end you beat me to it. :-)
Looking forward to the rest of the project videos.
: ) Thanks! Yeah being able to do the welding myself saved a lot of money.
If I was you I would half the fence, the view of the other houses is amazing! LOVE YOUR VIDS BTW!
I watch your videos from Spain. Really impressive!!
It's good that you're wearing a full-face helmet when using the grinder - those blades are known to break and grinder accidents are no joke
Wow some job you took on there April, looking forward to next episode.
Another interesting and informative video. Never seen anyone use magnets like that before.
I believe they are really common. They are made by a company that makes a lot of equipment for welders.
you inspire me now I also like to do my own small items for my home!! keep posting please!!
I see your new welding skills are coming in very hand... That's a fantastic job April, keep it up!
Nice project April. Seems All went well. Thanks fer the video.
Dang, welding, power tools, saws, your awesome!
Oh my gosh, you're such an inspiration for me!! I love all those diys projects. Thank you for sharing this with us. We can do this 💪🏻
April Wilkerson ladies and gentlemen! Holy Cow! We all know you're a hard worker April, but WOW! This is a project.
I don't know if you did or not, but for everyone else, this is where you want to use that type of welder with flux core, not shielding gas. If you use gas with wind like that, you're not going to get a great weld because the wind is blowing the gas away, but you could weld all day in a wind storm with flux core.
Pish, you think you have a keeper...you are a keeper! Look at all the cool shit you've built! If my wife was building us a beautiful fence, I'd damn sure be holding an umbrella for her. You're awesome.
Cool build! I really like seeing the little tricks you come up with. And I love that native american shirt.
Very nice, neat idea for the posts they are not going anywhere. Makes a good strong fence . Great job April !, Better watch out for Cody he's going to want to use the welder you are getting some nice tools Best regards BobLee
With the added height to your fence along with stronger wood, your zombie preparedness has increased
five points, well done!
Thank you for sharing your ideas and input. All the way from Nicaragua. God bless.
Beautiful project and yes you definitely have a keeper!
i've put a few fences up in my time, string and a sprit level are your best friends!!
but score on not having to put in the posts. i hated that last time as the ground was full of bricks and other rubble as the house was the last built and the ground was originally the storage yard for the builders.
Just now watched Pt 1 can't wait to see pt 2 .
Mean while I dont know who the negative thumbs downers are in this world, but it just shows that unfortunately some people dont deserve to leave their opinion because obviously it is absolutely worthless what it does show is the bad nature of some people
I know we should not bother to focus on those types but it gets me really bad and boy I wish they could all be old schooled with a good old fashioned whooping.
April we love you, you are awesome and we enjoy you enjoying the work and projects you take on, absolutely outstanding and inspiring to say the least, :)

Yes, sometimes it worth the convenience of shopping local rather than many miles away to save a bit. Thanks for watching.
I see you had fun "kicking" off this video series! :P
Great job as always April! Looking forward to the rest of these til the completion!

You are doing more for women, feminism and equality than any feminist I've ever met. Kudos!
