Even though it's not a Disney show, I think that watching Regular Show's EU Portuguese dub is an AMAZING way to learn Portuguese slang! It's used so naturally and swiftly in the dub, and the voices are all greatly cast! I recommend it myself, as a native Portuguese speaker!

I'm still trying to learn the many many different various verbs! anyway GREAT CHANNEL! learning a lot. i will continue my poor attempt at learning this language and one day be able to speak to my girlfriends parents with out them laughing :P

Parece-me que a diferença entre a usar o infinitivo ou conjuntivo em um expressão impessoal, como “é bom/é provável etc. é a palavra “que”. @@dereksmitt6529 É bem mais complicado do que isso. É um problema mais semântico do que formal! Em circunstâncias normais dir-se-ia É óbvio que ele é o melhor jogador do mundo (indicativo)! É estranho que o considerem o melhor jogador do mundo (subjuntivo). Não tem nada a ver com o "que". No primeiro caso usamos o indicativo porque é um fato, no segundo usamos o subjuntivo porque é uma opinião, um sentimento.

(podemos usar o indicativo pois é um fato) Antigamente não havia dinossauros que tivessem mais de 20 metros de altura. (subjuntivo pois a última oração é uma mera hipótese) Outro exemplo de frases quase iguais: Todos os que medi ontem e têm mais de 1 metro entrem na sala agora. (Aqui usei o indicativo: Eu sei quem tem mais de 1 metro, estou a falar de algo conhecido e concreto) Todos os que tiverem/tenham mais de 1 metro entrem na sala agora. (Aqui usei o subjuntivo: eu nem sei se existe alguém nessas condições. Estou a estabelecer uma mera condição limite desconectada da realidade)

Looking forward to videos on the past and future subjunctive, about which I am still a little unsure. By the way, you were obviously very well tuned into the subject, as you used a couple of English subjunctives - "take" 4:58 and "marry" 5:37, consciously or unconsciously.
You're absolutely right, mark br. Many people think that the subjunctive in English is only found in the past tense with the "if" clause. The present subjunctive is common in English, but most people don't realize they're using it. I wonder if Liz did! As you said: "consciously or unconsciously". Only Liz knows. Hey, I like very much your channel, and love to watch your videos even as a portuguese native speaker. I just want to make a little correction. The imperative is not the same as the subjunctive. They have distinct conjugations. The gramatically correct imperative form for "deixar" is "deixa" (2h person) or "deixe" (3h person). Greetings from Brazil!
When you're French and your technique to know when to use the subjunctive is to realize that the rule is the same as in your mother tongue :p Even though, your video explains it well and in a creative way! this is interesting to see how it is taught to non Latin-language speakers :) Thanks ! and maybe see you one day in Lisbon !

In Brazil, I've spent a entire year studying verbs when I was 9 or 10 in order to really know all the verb tenses by heart (it worked). So I imagine how hard should be for a english native to get it. Quando criança, no Brasil, eu passei um ano inteiro para decorar todos os modos e tempos verbais (funcionou!), então imagino quão dificil deve ser para um falante de inglês aprender isso.
Isso é verdade, mas por outro lado é também impressionante ver como uma criança de 6 anos, mesmo com uma certa deficiência mental, sabe conjugar razoavelmente bem os verbos e aplicá-los bem, apesar de não saber classificá-los (se viver num ambiente culto).

Não sei se é verdade mas Fernando Pessoa não usava o subjuntivo. Motivo: passou a infância na África do Sul e a sua língua materna foi o inglês. Por isso, quase sempre, os testes com espaços em branco são muito difíceis de fazer em português, especialmente com o conjuntivo/indicativo e com perfeito/imperfeito. Isto acontece porque é o verbo que define o contexto e não o contexto que define o verbo.

Sorry, Liz, but I heard you say "newmonic" twice, once at 1:19, and then at 5:44. The correct word is "mnemonic" from the Greek "mnemonikos" (pertaining to memory). It is pronounced 'nemonic'. I believe you are thinking of the word "pneumonic" which is from the Greek for air, breath or wind, as in pneumonia or pneumatic tire. In Canada and the U.S., we say "noomonia" and "noomatic". In U.K. English, it's newmonia, newmatic. Feb. 21/21, Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

Looking forward to videos on the past and future subjunctive, about which I am still a little unsure. By the way, you were obviously very well tuned into the subject, as you used a couple of English subjunctives - "take" 4:58 and "marry" 5:37, consciously or unconsciously.
You're absolutely right, mark br. Many people think that the subjunctive in English is only found in the past tense with the "if" clause. The present subjunctive is common in English, but most people don't realize they're using it. I wonder if Liz did! As you said: "consciously or unconsciously". Only Liz knows. "May the king live" is another case where the present subjunctive is used. February 21/21, Burlington, ON Canada.

Hey, I like very much your channel, and love to watch your videos even as a portuguese native speaker. I just want to make a little correction. The imperative is not the same as the subjunctive. They have distinct conjugations. The gramatically correct imperative form for "deixar" is "deixa" (2h person) or "deixe" (3h person). Greetings from Brazil!
When you're French and your technique to know when to use the subjunctive is to realize that the rule is the same as in your mother tongue :p

It is not the same. There are even quite substantial differences between the use of the subjunctive in Spanish and Portuguese.

In Brazil, I've spent a entire year studying verbs when I was 9 or 10 in order to really know all the verb tenses by heart (it worked). So I imagine how hard should be for a english native to get it.
Quando criança, no Brasil, eu passei um ano inteiro para decorar todos os modos e tempos verbais (funcionou!), então imagino quão dificil deve ser para um falante de inglês aprender isso.
Isso é verdade, mas por outro lado é também impressionante ver como uma criança de 6 anos, mesmo com uma certa deficiência mental, sabe conjugar razoavelmente bem os verbos e aplicá-los bem, apesar de não saber classificá-los (se viver num ambiente culto).
sim, imagino que é difícil para os brasileiros que tratam a gramática da sua própria língua como se fosse estrangeira - como se fosse facultativa

Não sei se é verdade mas Fernando Pessoa não usava o subjuntivo. Motivo: passou a infância na África do Sul e a sua língua materna foi o inglês. @@TalktheStreets Lembra-te da máxima de um professor de espanhol que trabalha na Rússia. Dizem que ele começa por dizer isto quando ensina os verbos: "Regra número 1: qualquer tempo pode ser dito em qualquer tempo." Isto acontece ainda mais com o subjuntivo, pois o caráter temporal não é tão importante.
Por exemplo, podemos usar o futuro para o passado: "Quem tiver feito (futuro do conjuntivo composto) o trabalho de casa avise!" E podemos usar o passado para o futuro. "Telefona antes que tenhas chegado (pretérito perfeito do conjuntivo) ao aeroporto".
Isto acontece porque geralmente os verbos podem contextualmente e idiomaticamente ora andar "um passo" para trás ora outro para a frente.
Amanhã, vou a Londres. (Um passo para a frente)
O ladrão apareceu de repente e diz-me "mãos ao ar" (Um passo para trás=presente histórico)
Quem estará lá em cima? (Um passo para trás)
Quem terá matado o homem? (Parecem dois passos mas é só um, passa do passado do futuro, para o passado do presente que é o passado).
Sem entender esta flexibilidade idiomática nunca entenderão os verbos.
Uma típica aplicação disto é a substituição do condicional pelo imperfeito. (um passo para a frente) O imperfeito (presente do passado) substitui o condicional (futuro do passado), da mesma forma que o presente pode substituir o futuro. Por isso não é verdade que o imperfeito sempre possa substituir o condicional, da mesma forma que o presente nem sempre pode substituir o futuro.
Uma das maiores dificuldades dos estrangeiros é distinguir a indagação da suposição/hipótese.
Indagação (Indicativo):
Se tu trabalhaste tantas horas extraordinárias assim, vais receber muito dinheiro.
Suposição/Hipótese (Conjuntivo):
Se tu trabalhasses tantas horas extraordinárias assim, irias/ias receber muito dinheiro.
Por isso, quase sempre, os testes com espaços em branco são muito difíceis de fazer em português, especialmente com o conjuntivo/indicativo e com perfeito/imperfeito. Isto acontece porque é o verbo que define o contexto e não o contexto que define o verbo.

Sorry, Liz, but I heard you say "newmonic" twice, once at 1:19, and then at 5:44. The correct word is "mnemonic" from the Greek "mnemonikos" (pertaining to memory). It is pronounced 'nemonic'. I believe you are thinking of the word "pneumonic" which is from the Greek for air, breath or wind, as in pneumonia or pneumatic tire. In Canada and the U.S., we say "noomonia" and "noomatic". In U.K. English, it's newmonia, newmatic. Feb. 21/21, Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
