- You missed THIS in WALL-E. In the future, humans have become so lazy and dependent on technology that they’ve all grown extremely overweight. Even the captain of the Axiom, the luxury cruise liner spaceship, has grown so large that he can no longer fit in his uniform and instead wears the shirt around his neck with just a single button holding it in place.

The centuries of built up fat, which they acquired through non-existant work (they were basically on a "stress free" cruise) and their cosumption of food, as WELL as (not only) the gravity there have made their bones tiny. My point is that it wasn't solely gravity, but the fact that humans no longer needed to move around to survive (laziness from previous centuries) and lived their lives on that chair, so the humans evolved to no longer needing those bones.

The arc was gaining the courage to break from conformity (going from blue to red outfits) culminating in their breaking away from the screen oriented lifestyle, allowing them to stand up *literally* on their own two feet, reclaiming their independence as humans.

Something many people ACTUALLY missed about the captain:
The button and hole used for his jacket should be the middle buttons and holes of his jacket if he could wear it properly. All the other outfits in the Axiom are full body, elastic. The captain’s jacket is the only piece of Axiom clothing that has such limited give.
Also, in the pictures of the captain lineages, most of them live over two centuries as captain. It is their service dates that are shown…unless future captains only get their position after the death of the previous and are born specifically for that purpose.
Even with a healthy diet, the captain standing for the first time in such an exhaustive moment - also for the first time - should have forced his heart to fail. Low gravity should not be a saving grace here - if anything, the loss is bone density should have had his bones shatter like sugar glass the moment Co Pilot pushed against him with any force.
Still, love the movie.
