Thanks for content . I’m currently running a Dissector rear and DHR 2 wide trail. This combo has been awesome for me . I agree the Dissector is a awesome tire .
I have been running the dissector front and rear for a while now. I used to run Assagai front and dissector rear, which is probably the best combo for grip, but like you said, the Assagai is very slow rolling and heavy. The dissector front and rear is probably my favorite combo, it rolls fast and still has tons of grip. The only time when I put the Assagai on now is when I go to a bike park.
I have the same setup coming soon. Rear tire is almost out and gonna but the Dissector on the rear with my current Assegai up front. Can't wait. Is yours the EXO? If so should I be worried about punctures? How is the tread wear?
Nice. Even though I’m not running this setup now, once my tires wear out I will be buying these tires again. I prefer exo+ in the rear but it really depends on where you ride. They tend to last a good while, 500+ miles
@@MILTONATOR awesome. I have EXO+ on my front Assegai, but couldn't find the rear in EXO+ for a decent price. Let's see what happens. Hope they are still strong.
for dry central Texas trails, rocky, loose over hardpack, lots of tight off camber trails I really like the Dissector 2.4 rear and HR 2 2.5 up front. Rolls good and hooks up. Several buddies run the Assegai up front and love it. I might try one next trip to Angel Fire but I didn't have any issues with the combo I ran.
Great review. I live out here in OC and run a 2.5 aggressor. You think going down to a 2.4 dissector is a noticeable difference in width or will the better cornering knobs make up for the smaller tire?
I think it’s gonna be noticeable in a good way. I think you’ll like it better, honestly. Better grip all around and not much of a sacrifice in rolling resistance
Minion DHF front and back on my hardtail works very well. Bike shop guy told me that’s the go for a hardtail ! 2.8 wide so it’s a big tyre and I can not fault these tyres. About 28 psi in the front and 30 in the back. I’m very particular about my tyres and there pressure, as you know they can make or break your ride.
Nice choice, I run the assegai up front and dhf in the rear. We have some similar conditions to you... maybe ditch the DD up front and see how that reduced weight helps with roll... reckon you'll love it mate !!
Awesome 👌🏼 Second Favorite All Time Tire Setup ~ 1st is DHR2 rear. But I have loved my Dissector as long as it's lasted me so far! One thing I think you'll also notice is the DD Assegai is More then most people need.. I'm one to typically run DD or DH casings only, but the EXO+ on the Assegai is a really nice and tough lasting tire compound.. lasted me over 6 months and 1200 miles!! Also giving you the added weight savings helps it roll easier! Next time tho!
Are you running Cushcore? My bikes kinda a rolling pig but she’s actually wearing out tires instead of blowing out and tearing sidewalls or pinch flatting. I run the Assegai front and DHR2 rear with the rear getting really chewed up. Hummmmm Disector????? Maybe Thanks for the great video !
awesome comparison!!! i've finally retired the DHF for the Assegai. i still bounce between the Dissector and DHR2 depending on the trail. we need DD here, i already sliced the Dissector in that big open channel. great vid, clicking the subscribe button now! rip and shred my dude
Awesome video! I just picked up an assagai and I'm not sure if i want to combine it with the dissector in the rear or the dhf that i have that's just sitting around. I'm in northern ca so i need traction for dry loose terrain in the spring/summer. have you done the dhf in the rear with the asagai. dude, you remind me of ceasar melan the dog whisperer.
👏🏻 Great video, I agree 100% the assegai does not roll as good, the grip is great and still a good tire overall. I was tempted to put a Dissector front and back, corner grip is better than the aggressor.
Been using this exact same combo since January and I love it. Here in Colorado, the uphill climbs from 9-12,000ft are tough with an Assegai but its well worth it going downhill. I've thought of the DHF upfront for climbs because it does roll better but then I quickly squash that thought when I think of how much I love the assegai traction. The Dissector roll amazing but its not holding up as well as I though it might, nobs are about to come off so I need to order another. BUT, no flats front or back and I run EXO+ front Assegai and Dissector EXO casing rear. For Colorado, NM and Utah riding, which can get pretty rocky and janky, that says something. Hard to find these tires right now though, they've been on back order everywhere. DD is pretty heavy Milt, you should try the EXO+ or just EXO, might work well for your area. I agree with you about the Dissector vs Aggressor. Great video!
Aggressor WT EXO Dual Compound Back and DHF WT EXO Dual Compound Front working great and easy to peddle up with grip on loose over hard pack for days as long as you lean it over and weight your pedals correctly.
Agreed. Legendary tire the Mazza. But I’ve ridden both. The assegai up front is no joke and the sipes go deeper on the tread. However, the wear life on the Mazza is untouchable. Both good.
That's my setup and I think they're great. Although I think my next setup I'm gonna try a slightly faster pace combination. The Mazza is a great tire but maybe a bit too chunky for my trails.
In my opinion the Aggressor rolls slightly faster but from experience doesn’t grip as well as the Dissector on the steep climbs. Amongst other things, but not significantly different
What tires you use depends so much on the trails you're running. I don't have DH trails where I live so Assegai would be a bit overkill for me. I'm currently using Vittoria Mazza (F) and Martello (R) and they have plenty of grip for the trails I bike. I would even say my Mazza tire is a bit overkill. Maxxis Dissector seems like my kind of tires, but i hear a lot about their lack of longevity, so I'm a bit unsure about them. I think my next set will be either Vittoria Martello (F) and Mezcal (R), or Maxxis Dissector (F & R), or maybe Dissector (F) and Aggressor (R).
Yeah, absolutely fine. Except that for my preference, I feel running both front and rear is too much meat on the ground- meaning slower rolling speed. But performance wise, all good.
I live in SoCal and ride Assegai front and rear in Max Grip DH casing. It was a bazillion times better than what I used to have (DHF/DHRII) on my Lg Sentinel grip-wise for our local conditions (Fontana, Snow Summit, Crestline, etc.) but I also thought it worked well in UT at Deer Valley. To me it came down to having way more confidence in the tires which has allowed me to shred much faster. I'm interested to try the Dissector on the rear though (since my rear Assegai's shredded to pieces).
We have same set up front n rear 2.6 on both , I love how I can lean my bike on sharp corners with more speed than usual and not worry about skidding or getting washed out it just grips the corner so much funnier or should I say better and it's so much better when getting rid off mud when I'm on muddy trail👍👍
I run this exact setup but maxterra exo+ assegai and exo Dissector rear for norcal..agree with all your comments also. One thing is 3c maxterra Dissector wears super quickly. The rubber is really soft. Also it's prone to punctures in-between the tread blocks..
colin p Dissector up front? I hesitate because of somewhat spacious tread pattern. Front tire needs good traction which comes from a tighter grouping pattern. My opinion
Colin check out theloamwolf.com/2020/07/24/review-maxxis-dissector-rekon-combo/ I run this on my trail bike and I like it so far. It’s a fast combo and I haven’t had any issues with grip unless it’s some super loose stuff on climbs which my rekon won’t hook up right. There was a guy on an Ibis Ripmo at these exact trails and he was running dissector front and rear. I wish I knew if he was running maxgripp up front or the wider 2.6. But he said he liked it a lot.
findtherightbeat I’ve ran that setup before and personally I find the Dissector giving me more confidence to charge and more traction on the climbs. The DHF is 👌🏼
You trade rolling speed for grip. You aren’t going to notice going a tiny tiny tiny bit faster with less aggressive tires but you will notice when you wipe out because you only buy tires based on fast rolling

@@MILTONATOR I just went on my first ride today, and wow these tires are fast! They also have amazing cornering grip, and I feel they corner even better than my specialized butchers! Im running this combo, works quite well, find the dissector likes to break away sideways and drift everywhere but has great stopping and alright powerdown traction, assegai just grips every which way it can, my riding bro ran one front and rear and nearly died everytime we climbed an up track, hes normally keeping up with ebikes on the ups so they are draggy as hell!
“Keep making them videos! Miltonatorrrrr!” So good man. Great review. I’m curious about Dissector vs. DHRII. When it comes to knobs/grip vs rolling speed is it: DHRII - Dissector - Agressor? Meaning, Dissector is the best of both rolling speed and grip between all three?
