sadly, some comments coming from Filipinos aren't as positive...despite the culture and language barriers, these are young children, yet all the adults are positive. Shame on those who are negative and are trying to label his mother and siblings.
I am too. A Filipino Korean living in the Philippines at first i didnt get along with my Korean relatives because i met them when i was 10 years old when we visited Korea and i cant really speak Korean back then. But when i finally learned how to speak Korean i can say they are really sweet and caring like my Filipino relatives and they explained to me why they didnt talk to me at first because they are shy and afraid to talk in English especially conversing to a Foreigner. Kaya wag po sana tayo mag generalize kasi may ibat ibang kultura po tayo once na natutunan ang kultura ng bawat isa dun natin malalaman lahat ^^. 엘존 씨. 니가 한국에서 행복하게 살길 바라요.
I love him when he say "Po or Opo" these words can express how great you are and respect the elders. He tried his best to speak "Tagalog" kahit nakamulatan nyang salita ay Bisaya. Nakakaproud naman.
As a Filipino, showing respect to the elders is very important to us no matter how awkward you are to that person or people. We even have this "mano po" gesture as a sign of respect even though we aren't blood related. I hope the kids will learn from this. Earl John, I am rooting for you.
The four younger kids are acting like brats. It doesn't matter if you don't understand someone, if they're addressing you; you look at them at the very least. Earl Jhon was also there translating and they still showed apathetic attitudes. Hopefully they change and mature as they grow.
@@lyrics4you995 when the grandma calls them by their names they can't even look at her or acknowledge that she called them. your justification is still invalid. still bratty kids.
No its not akward i agree with KL theyre all acting brats. Theres a tad difference betweence akwardness, shyness & brattiness. When you go meet your elder in korea, u have to insa. You can just nod ur head if feeling shy. they wont even insa on their shin halmae even if their mom already told them to. When the old lady offered “subak”/ watermelon the kids again didnt even bother to get up or even insa by nodding their heads while sitting down but one reached out to get the plate. But earl john who isnt blood related does almost everything. Im not surprised that the halmeoni liked him better than her real ones. Manners are big thing in korean culture & sadly these kids are auite missin some
I completely agree with you. When I lived in Seoul I didn't know any Korean and even so I always listened very carefully and after that I would ask my friends to translate or search online. They are really disrespectful.
I feel so dissapointed when they said that they didn't want him to become the president because of his speaking skills in korean. I feel really bad. Leadership is not all about words it's all about action. Maybe they didn't like him because of his communicating skills but men-----I really felt dissapointed.
One thing that I appreciate is the Grandmother. Se raised him so well, trying to get closer to her grandkids, and she did a great job to do some effort to make them feel comfortable around her. I feel so sorry seeing her, she's can't understand them and also the kids didn't understand their grandma. I hope her daughter teach them Filipino culture, language, foods and e.t.c. Long life and stay healthy Lola. Isa kang napakabuting tao at nakakataba po kayo ng puso. Mabuhay po Kayo. ❤️
I’m sorry to say this, but Earl John living in the Philippines for the past 17 years without her mom was actually a good thing. He grew up as a very polite, kind and hardworking person. He helps his mom do house chores and even harvest chilis while his siblings rest inside the house comfortably. He studies very hard for his family. He is concerned with his siblings that he barely knew whilst the siblings probably don’t care as much of him. His grandmom raised him well in the Philippines. He and his Filipino grandmom are both very amazing person!✨ Their personalities reflect each other crystal clear. Watching the 2 episodes of Earl John’s story in MNC, I felt how warm he and his grandma is. Very Filipino! 💓 His Korean non-biological father was probably relieved when he met Earl John because he finally has someone he can rely on. Same goes with his non-biological grandmom that likes him more than her actual/biological grandchildren. Because as warm as he is, probably as cold as his siblings which totally shows in both episodes. I feel like when their Filipino grandmom and uncle visited them, just because they can’t understand each other, Earl John’s siblings alienated them. They don’t respond even though Earl John translates what their grandma were saying. Like, where’s the manner? I don’t care if they don’t understand the language because language isn’t the only way to communicate. Duh? I also don’t care if there was a time that they did try to make eye contact, communicate or even spoke a basic Filipino language. The bottom line is they didn’t try hard and I felt like they always respond to their grandma halfheartedly, like they only forced themselves for the sake of looking good for the show. The mom didn’t raise them well, sorry. But these were filmed and aired over a year ago, so I hope there has been a huge development from this siblings’ personalities. I hope they aren’t snob anymore and learned a lot of good manners & Filipino culture from their eldest brother if their mom failed to do so. 여러분, 화이팅~!! ✨✨✨
Filipinos were actually raised to be kind hearted, helpful and respect towards older people. But it depends on the parents but grandparents are the hest in raising children! But depends on the grandparents too 😂
It makes me so sad that it feel like the kids are embarassed that they are half pinoys, but its understandable coz theyre still young.. I hope when they grow up, they'll realise that they have an amazing grandma and angel brother..
rain clouds I think a big problem is that Koreans don't really like those who are of half descent. A long time ago, it was like that and the issue is still there somewhat but not as much as before. I personally think those kids are acting like brats though.
17:10 That moment you see someone's genuine smile. Earl John's a really good person. He was brought up well despite difficulties. He is blessed with great grandmothers. I'm really hoping for him and his family to only live a fruitful life and be blessed with good health. May Earl John persevere more so that he can do the things he loves at the same time support his family.
Felt bad for Earl Jon, had he went earlier to S.Korea he would have learned the language by now. He would not have to take written exam for naturalization but only interview which is easier. This is bad but I think he was brought to Korea only to work for the family since his step dad is too old to work. He was raised by his grandma for 17 yrs, I wonder what his mother is doing and thinking for Earl Jon's betterment. To say it bluntly he was abandoned as a child and recalled when the mother needed help. Poor Earl Jon hope he gets naturalize soon.
I hope he gets naturalized but won't get stuck slaving away for his mother. She left him to have her own life, he should also be allowed to have his own life. Frankly, he owes her nothing, it's grandma that he should pay gratitude to.
@@anthyavila9726 you're right. His mom's having her cake and eating it, too. Sorry, but she left that young little to boy to her mum. That wouldn't have been okay if she wasn't Filipino. She just has to thank her stars that Filipinos are okay with taking care of their grandchildren
@@anthyavila9726 geez, such negativity or even trying to validate what you think...from what I know, jobs that pay well are hard to come by in PH. Isn't it the norm to be an OFW? Adah Matanog I feel like they're just ungrateful brats. They don't show their Filipina grandma any respect, I feel like it would be just the same with their Korean grandma.
With my nieces and nephews, I always tell them to tell nana thank you for gifts she gets them, to give her a big hug and a kiss when they are leaving her house, and to text her a nice message when she's sick.I know these children don't know better as none of us did at their age, but earl jhon and his mama should be instilling in them the importance of showing manners to granny for all she does for them, and even if they can't understand her, to put in a bit more effort. Earl jhon is just too gentle 😭 Hopefully as they grow older and when they become teens they will appreciate her and him more 🥺
He sure had a lonely childhood.. Grew up with his grandma... He is a thoughtful person still care for his mother who remarried...If I were in his position I might have resented the mom.. For leaving him and got herself a husband and children This is just my thought no offensive at all I just feel pity him because he didn't get her mother's love when he was a child... Anyway rooting for this family😊😊😊😊😊
Mom didn't even stop with abandoning him... Now she sent for him when she needed the labor. She abandoned him and is now using him as a free worker. I'll bet she'll expect him to be the one to take care of her as well when she gets old and frail.
@@anthyavila9726 toxic Asian culture tbh. Children being created to be caretakers regardless if their parents did their job or not. Though his grandmother raised him well with manners. I'd say he was better off instead of turning out like a spoiled brat. That's why his step grandma loves him as well
The siblings are not bad... They just need time to bond. Look at how his sister came and fanned him. And even they tried to joke around when they got the lip tint.. They are just at an awkward age and dont know how to act. Even we were awkward in teenage. And plus they were apart for such a long time. They definitely need time.
honestly when I first watched the first episode about earl jhon and his family I wasn’t really interested and couldn’t finish it but now after I decided to finish it I was really interested in this episode!! everything about it intrigues me and I can kinda relate to him . We were all holding our breaths waiting to see if you would finish and like it because nothing is more important to us than every passing fancy and pointless opinion you have about everything and then think we want to hear about it because we have nothing else to do.
I think he got close with his korean grandma since he grew up with his lola. He has the aura/character of being with a grandparent. I cried when his lola and tito left 😭

I could see the frustration on him and I felt sad, too. 😢 I figured that it's about his speech but it's okay. He has leadership in him, and he's service-oriented. He's natural even, brought by his upbringing, I believe. He's dependable, self-reliant and hardworking, too. Those can bring him farther. He's just in the wrong audience. Lol. His speech can get better through time, anyways. So hwaiting! PS I'm also disappointed of how his siblings did not help him adjusting in Korean life, esp language which kaya nmn pala nila. I hope it's just that they're still trying to build relationship and still just shy and awkward to approach to help him. I do pray for them to eventually build familial closeness now that they're closer. 💓

Bisaya originates from Visayas but people in Mindanao use this dialect too. I'm not sure if I just misheard it but his grandmother had spoken a Surigaonon word and speaks in this accent too. Surigaonon is also a dialect used by people from Surigao in Mindanao.

I love him when he say "Po or Opo" these words can express how great you are and respect the elders. He tried his best to speak "Tagalog" kahit nakamulatan nyang salita ay Bisaya. Nakakaproud naman.
yeahhhh PO at OPO is such a great word :)
Hopefully they change and mature as they grow.
because it is awkward at the first time always thats why
They are really disrespectful.
no name but culture in Korea is different in the Philippines. Specially with how they treat elders. But yeah, they're acting bratty.
여러분, 화이팅~!! ✨✨✨
I agree
It’s probably coz of school.: sometimes kids are like that even if innocently done.
Wow I thought those younger ones is pure Koreans, so they really are half siblings
brebreboo lardoo No, they are of half descent. Their biological mother is Earl Jhon's mother but they both have different biological fathers.
They’re not necessarily embarrassed but indifferent and apathetic because they’re moody little preteens.

Earl is the real version of a typical "oppa" we see in kdramas😭❤️
I noticed that too. After 17 years of abandonment, she will get him just to work for him? Hope he gets what's deserving for him.
@@anthyavila9726 geez, such negativity or even trying to validate what you think...from what I know, jobs that pay well are hard to come by in PH. Isn't it the norm to be an OFW? So now criticize the mother when it's so common in the PH to do what she did leaving a child to go abroad to make a living? His situation looks better in the future to me. You dunno the circumstances around her situation 17 years ago and her own mother seemed happy to see him go to Korea and see her grandchildren too, despite the barrier. Look at the whole picture and stop being close minded. No one is angry at each other, so stop hating.
@@randomperson7861 you know what, ur just jealous his situation looks better than yours. He seems happy and seems like he wanna be there...He is his own man now and will choose whats best for him. Give him credit, I am sure he knows what he is doing.

That girl who helps him though is such a good person with glowing energy. She'll be blessed.
The translation's a bit off. This is what Earl John really said to his siblings.
"Study hard, even though it's hard. Just continue. Your brother is here to take care of all of you. Your needs, if I could provide them, I'll give it all to you. "

@@anndra2201 LOL I don't know about you. But I corrected their "Filipino/Tagalog" translations into English. I do understand the differences of the Korean Language system especially the grammar and usage of words. Sure, it'll be fine if the one who translated didn't need to be someone who has Filipino as their mother tongue (w/c is something that we couldn't validate). But it ain't wrong for me to correct it. Can't cut them some slack as it is their responsibility. C'mon, I saw it. Why shouldn't I? It's all for the good. Guuuurrlll thanks for the reminders and all but you should also see where I'm coming from. Thanks for the efforts
okay, the youngest son look like pure Filipino I know their mother is Filipino but the youngest one is so handsome especially when he is smiling(his dimples)
The korean grandma seems a lot closer to Earl Jhon than her real grandchildren, and it’s so sad to see that.

I agree with u

I know the kids have their reasons but I still feel annoyed that they didn't put much effort into trying to communicate with their grandma
Watching this in 2021 I hope Earl Jhon has reached greater milestones in his life since this ep was aired. So glad to see that a man young like him respects elders and is so thoughtful towards his family members. May God Bless you~
I could see the frustration on him and I felt sad, too.
