people saying this is a religious thing n blaming Islam are wrong i myself wear hijaab n pray five times but i work for even 40 hoirs alone in my hospital i am a Pakistani muslim n doctor ... there are alot of times when i drive home alone i even used to come home in my final year of medical school by bus too even at 10 pm at night .... its just a cultural thing Islam doesnot put such restrictions over women to take someone with them while going out . plus i understand her mother as they come from a war stricken zone so its natural to be protective about. their children n i respect her she is such a sweet mom who isnt raising her voice even when she is arguing. i love this about her 😍😍
Actually Islam is protective over women Which is a good thing It's *PROTECTION* NOT RESTRICTION You shouldn't be alone in the streets & put yourself in danger, that's opposite of logic!! It's dangerous everywhere Harassment, rape, murder & thrift are rampant Protection is needed.. Especially for this Muslim family knowing they are living in non Muslim country and many attacks happen to Muslims in non Muslim countries They have the right to be scared for their daughter. It's not backwards, putting yourself or your loved ones purposefully in danger IS BACKWARDS
you know when the mom was waking up her kids gently I just couldn't stop laughing because all I could imagine is her waking them up other days by like yelling from the kitchen or with the shibshib
I'm Muslim Iraqi girl living in Germany and I can relate to them so much! I love the family already (especially the mom!). To everyone who thinks "oh poor girl she can't go out" - either the subs were wrong/incomplete or you just don't get it. Let me explain, in Iraq in some parts girls don't go out alone because the parents want to protect their daughters from harassment on the streets! The mom told her daughter "either go with one of your siblings or with your older sister" (which she doesn't have but she used that as an explanation that it's not about girls but more about GIRLS ALONE) This family will soon learn that in Korea that's not the case and everything is fine.
Logen Bogen The Core Islamic Values in this family (and yours) are strong. May Allah continue to provide them, you and me and Muslims in general hidayah, rahmah and maghfirah..
Logen Bogen Some people think cultural restrictions are the same as religious restrictions, nowhere in the Koran does it say that women aren't able to walk independently.
Mason mason Darling, no. I think you came here to release hate.. anyways I will assure you that ISLAM means PIECE. "If man kills one person, it's as if he killed all human kind" and vice versa. This is what Muslims should follow. If you're referring to ISIS then I may tell you with confidence: ISIS is the biggest bullshit - and it's created by some western countries and zionists to weaken the Middle East (oil rich countries). If you're interested in knowing more about this, I'll be pleased to help.
+Logen Bogen My comment was hateful? What I said is absolutely true, there are NO restrictions listed in the Koran that restrict women from walking independently. My comment actually supports human rights for Muslim women.
@@nini071 it's probably Arab culture. I'm South East Asian Muslim but we were thought that everyone do the house chores together. Both my parents works, and us children do house works.
I feel bad for the daughter Ilaaf. she speaks arabic but had to learn a compleet different language. and now she also has to learn English like those three languages are SUPPER DIFFERENT from each other! you have arabic English AND Korean not only is it three different languages also three COMPLETELY different writhing! respect for all of them
Indeed. Completely different script, grammatical structure, conjugation style, and more. It'd be difficult. Only bright side is that it does get easier to learn a new language the more of them you learn. But still not to the point that anyone would find it effortless

aban ir very nice of you but in this family it’s rather run by culture and not so much religion. I’m not saying they aren’t religious at all. That’s not for me to judge
This was very touching. So glad there are more Korean shows like this to remove prejudice and ignorance. The father and mother sacrificed so much for their children. I am a Korean living in America. So much discrimination coming to states in the 70s was hard, but we have so many more privileges in the States. I love this family. I hope Koreans shows a lot of love, support, and encouragement to make their life easier. We need more exposure of all ethnic groups, nationalities living equally and in harmony no matter where we are.

Before people make it a Muslim thing -NO, WOMEN DON'T HAVE TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY MEN TO GO OUT IN ISLAM. It's more of a cultural thing, and really endorsed by traditional patriarchal societies where men are the heads of the house. Also, families want to protect the women cause believe it or not society is still harassing women on the daily and it is safer to travel together rather than alone. Even in Western countries, walking out alone as a woman is scary af because you don't know what'll happen and when it'll happen, so walking in a group or with someone else is always a safety measure.
??? Your point? It's men in general. Because when it comes to violence and crimes against women, race and ethnicity aren't a factor. It's wrong either way. Also, *has, not 'have', and you don't need a comma after 'kids'.
i'm muslim and an arab and i can go out alone! actually i'm going to study abroad alone. everyone has their own tradition in their family. because not all arab are like this.

its not overprotective to not let girl out in her own search the percentage of how many women get rape murder there in korea. its wise thing to not let her girls leave the house alone. im a muslim girl btw
Mayarita that why thery are so proactive, but it would be better if they gave her more freedom like she should go out alone out with her friends if they are not bad u know
버엠 Yah I know how much Iraqi people are suffering, we went through that hard time here too but now that they are in a peaceful country they can give the girl some freedom. One day she will have to face this world alone.

I feel like Ilaaf feels out of place (in school at least?) because she's two grades below people her age in Korea but she shouldn't let that get to her! I also went to high school in a foreign country (France) and I was put in a class two grades below people my age because I was previously in a different educational system (Algeria) and I arrived at the end of the school year. I was really depressed at first and embarrassed because of it. I felt like I was a failure even though I wasn't put in this class because of my own academical performance but because of the two countries' different systems. But at the end of it, I am glad it happened. I made friends with some of the 'awesomest' people on Earth! However, I understand that Korea's age hierarchy makes it hard for her to make friends with people that aren't her age. Her parents are quite strict too so she can't even go out without one of her brothers' presence but it's kinda sad! Even though I never visited Iraq, I can somehow understand that the environment there isn't that good for (unmarried) young women, I understand the parents' strictness (since she's also their only daughter) and their need to maintain their traditions but they seriously need to adapt to Korea's lifestyle and balance it with their own Iraqi ways (was that understandable?). I think she'd feel better in an international school but I don't think it's something doable now since the family is financially unstable. Anyway, I hope she can enjoy her life as a student after graduating high school! Students in universities are diverse and of all ages! Focusing on her education must be her top priority because she can't just get married and become a stay at home wife, that would be too sad! Especially since she has the chance to do so as she now lives in Korea! Anyway, I just pulled an all-nighter and I feel like I'm getting lost with this comment. Ilaaf, fighting ^^ I wish you the best!

MashaAllah I am so happy to see that this family is living in Korea without discrimination and Korean people are so kind to them. And most importantly that they did not leave their Islamic culture spacially Salah (5 times prayer). Walhamdulillah.
I live in the UK and i'm muslim my parents are very over protective and i can't go out and travel to another country without my brother or dad because of all the hate crime happening against muslims in the world a lot of the hate crime is directed at women because people see us as a easier target than muslim men. I know it can be a bit too much but I guess the parents are very worried living in a foreign country where you don't fit into the society

Will always worry about there daughter's and yes I am. My father's little girl and will love and respect him till I die
hahahahahaha I am the same as you except I don’t have brothers and I think because of that my parents demanded me to be home before the sun is down or very rare at 8 hahahaha ~ awwww man everyone would know me as the kid who had to leave early .... and! wasn’t allowed to go far too from the house lol

I dunno why, I just feel the BIG LOVE of this family.. I feel their dad's love towards his family, I feel their mom's love, I feel the siblings love each other too.. although they have their own way to express their love.. but it warms my heart..

Omg u get me islam is not strict at all its just ppl bringing culture nd religion nd r mixing em up nd it makes me mad to b honest
Actually Islam is protective over women
Which is a good thing
It's *PROTECTION* NOT RESTRICTION
You shouldn't be alone in the streets & put yourself in danger, that's opposite of logic!!
It's dangerous everywhere
Harassment, rape, murder & thrift are rampant
Protection is needed..
Especially for this Muslim family knowing they are living in non Muslim country and many attacks happen to Muslims in non Muslim countries
They have the right to be scared for their daughter.
It's not backwards, putting yourself or your loved ones purposefully in danger IS BACKWARDS
True, it’s the culture

Logen Bogen
The Core Islamic Values in this family (and yours) are strong. May Allah continue to provide them, you and me and Muslims in general hidayah, rahmah and maghfirah..
is it those values to tells you to KILL those who make a joke about the religion?

Indeed. Completely different script, grammatical structure, conjugation style, and more. It'd be difficult. Only bright side is that it does get easier to learn a new language the more of them you learn. But still not to the point that anyone would find it effortless

Still a terrible religion
Ryan M That could be said for all religions in general, really.
Yeah except Islam and Sharia Law will kill for "God"
Ryan M Again, that could be said for all religions in general.
