A man on his twenties in war and raising a child is unbelievable, now adays biological fathers don't do this to their children, that shows how man he was a kind hearted man. I couldn't stop crying
A warzone is hardly an ideal place to raise a child, but the fact that Suleyman and his friends managed to do it is very impressive. And I bet he never had any parenting experience before that. He was still so young himself.
i think adopting orphans and taking care of them wherever they were stationed (they moved place to place and had to take the children with them sometimes) helped them mentally too. korean war was not just about shooting and bombing. especially in turkish vs chinese fronts there were many occassions they relied solely on bayonets and knives like in the ww i. they probably witnessed terrible things we can't dream of. keeping children relying on them probably assisted to keep their humanity intact and raised their morale in a fight thinking if they fall, children would do too.
Translation by Google of message above: I am truly grateful to Turkiye for risking his life and fighting with me, and I will never forget it. If our brotherly country needs help, the Republic of Korea will definitely come forward.

The moment that he said he spared money to give her as pocket money; which is a Turkish tradition on religious festivals, is really touching. That is the sign they have really deep father - daughter bond
@Sahipkıran Ah I see, I meant why he couldn't take her with him through legal means...the Korean government should have been able to allow him to adopt her. I'm also surprised how he couldn't keep in contact with her after and met her only many years later. But it's good they found each other again even if it took them many years.
@@sunnyv7745 He badly wants her to adopt but unable to find her because her name was change and the records of the orphanage was burned. That's why it takes 60 years for them to reunite by the help of many people.
During war and chaotic situation I don't think Korea government has time to entertain such request for adoption especially from outsiders..and most country would not allowed their orphans to be taken away from their country..
You don’t have to be Turkish or Korean to appreciate the humanity that these two people and their families shared. A shout out to those who made the reunion possible and also, many thanks to the makers of Kleenex.
@Khan Will I’m wondering if you understood my comment. What I meant was that this was such a great story about human kindness that everyone, wherever they live and wherever they come from, not only Turkish or Korean people, could appreciate it and learn from it. I am an English-born descendant of European Jewish families, now living in America - and I was deeply moved, to the point of tears, by the love and humanity of both the Turkish soldiers and the Korean girl who became a woman and never forgot.
This picture Ayla the orphaned girl kissing the soldier should won an Oscar -- a picture that captured the bond and love between 2 different people that lasted 60years .. such a an amazing story ❤
But the traslation is not 100% correkt. 25:29 He said here they've (North-korean/Chinese) killed her father and her mother. I am Korean and I honestly think Turkish people are the most unique people out there. They are kind, tough as a nail, and genuine. Thank you Turkey for all this support and the brotherhood should last forever.
Thank you for your kind words. I think the same about Korean people. Some even say that Turkic people and Korean people are related to each otheer. Because we are the Children of the Altaic region
I'm Korean, and I can tell confidently that many Koreans thank Turkish people for coming first when the Korean War broke out. In fact, my great grandfather was saved by Turkish Army. Althoug he passed away, I still remember him often saying that he cannot forget the Turkey soldier who saved him in the mountains and took care of him. okay, guys. I can see that there's people saying things abt Filipino soldiers. Of course I acknowledge their help and sacrifice, and of course we thank every single soldiers who took part in the war. However, this was a comment just mentioning what my great grandfather experienced, and does not mean that Turkish army was the only help to us Koreans :)
You should know that the love and respect for Korea in Turkey is unconditional. Really i can say everyone loves or at least respect Korea, You can not find 1 person out of the 83 million who will hate korea. Maybe you can find people with no opinion, but not one with bad opinion. Korean people are much like us Turkish people, You are respectfull, honorfull, you care about your traditions, culture, you are gratefull and down to earth people. Not cocky at all. You love and respect your elderly, Not many nations has these characteristic, maybe this is also the reason why Turks feel bounded with Korea, maybe it is the blood what unite us, because if we go back in history, the Turkish homeland is the Altaic region, from modern day China up until Caucausus the entire north
I m from Turkey and living usa. Korean kids lost their father and mother their life at the Turkish base at that time still hurting our hearth . I appreciate our soldiers who cared those kids and share their food with them
31:18 I was crying all the time but I laughed when he brought pocket money for Ayla. As a Turkish, it is a tradition to give pocket money to your children and grandchildren. Mr. Süleyman really thinks that Ayla is his daughter. 😭
Ayla said in her letter that she owes everything to her father. One thing she didn't know is that her father owes her too. She gave him purpose during the war. She gave him the will and courage to survive. That's what I felt too since I became a father. My daughter gave me purpose. This story is beautiful. I wish Ayla and her family well. ❤

That must be a crazy feeling. Being a grown 60 year old woman, with all your wisdom and experience. Then suddenly, you're a 5 year old little girl again holding on to your dad's arm.
Suleyman left quite an impression on Ayla, so of course, she would remember him well. I thought the part in the movie where he tried to sneak her out of Korea in a box was made up, but Ayla herself said it really did happen lol.
Very true, it's amazing that after all those years, they were like litte ones and like all of a sudden time has stopped and rewound to help bond and effection as if they were never seperated.. The most impressive and emotional real life story I have ever watched and heard in my life. And in a war. I bow respectfully to this brave and compassionate Turkish soldier. It is very impressive that they found each other again and hugged each other with the same love, even though 60 years have passed. It is impossible not to cry while watching all this. What a touching story. Sadly I just read that Mr Birbiley passed away a few years ago (aged 91), and his wife passed away one day later. I'm glad they were all able to reunite before their time on earth was over.
My father Huseyin Yankin, Korean veteran, 90 years old , alive God give him a long life. In my childhood, he always told me about his memories of the war in Korea. He would say that the children collected bread from the garbage. he never finishes his food, he saves it and takes it to children. When he shared his food with the children, he would say their happiness is not explained. If God give him more life, I would like to take him to Korea one day...
It is very moving to watch this document already, but when you know the circumstances the Turkish soldiers were in, it's even more impressive that they were able to build an orphanage and these stories still happened. Turkey was still a poor country at that time and US Secretary of State John Foster Dulles at the time gave a speech to the senate saying Turkish soldiers would cost 23 cents a month, compared to $70 a month per US soldier. Even in such hardship this man and many alike took care of all those children because those kid had suffered the most during that war. A truly commendable story!
Thank you for the information.. but I found the secretary of state quite insulting.. 23 cents a month? Turks dont fight for money, they fight for honour and justice
I'm Turkish and immigrated to US 22 years ago. 15 years ago I wanted to buy house and went to a house thinking that I could never afford the price. When owners asked for where I am from he shook and stood up to shake my hand again. He said he was a Korean veteran and he saluted the Turkish soldiers he fought with. He praised them and said he knows how Turkish people can share their bread even they don't have enough. He dropped the price drastically so that I can buy it. I salute my people who fought there again. Things are different now but I hope we go back to our roots soon.
I was born during the Korean War to an American father and Korean mother. I never knew Turkey was our ally. This needs to be taught in our schools. It upsets me that it’s not known. They risked their lives as American troops did. They are our heroes.
RIP Mr. Suleyman. You are greatly missed by a lot of folks in Korea. I just couldn't imagine how one can have such a big heart and a lot of love for a child, who is not his.
Turkish people are maniacs, its their strong feel for love of someone they think they need to protect. Look at turkish Ultras in football, they are crazy, because they love it THAT much. Same story goes for tourists in turkey or anything else. Turkish people mainly act out of heart & instinct. Turkish people feel strongly responsible of someone who cant defend themselves especially children / animals and protect and feed them generally if they are able to in general, thats why its globally known that turkish people love cats. They love to teach and share anyone about their culture to make them feel comfortable and make it seem like a warm environment even if its war out there, in Aylas Case. Napoleon once said he only would have needed turks in his army to rule the world, because he knows turks only see do or die, death or glory, lose your soil or protect your homeland whatever it takes. Their bond with allies is a literal thing for them and not only "on paper" they take these bonds seriously and also get emotional because of that.
The way Ayla cried made me cry too. Even though he didn't understand it, speaking to him in Korean impressed me a lot. She asked why he didn't come sooner and it made me cry more. Even though they don't understand each other, it touched my heart to see Ayla and Süleyman Baba like that.
If are you serving in Turkish Armed Forces its mean you are NOT to be reach man. After service when are you retired with honor you have only a few money for living. No more no less...
I actually think he probably speaks a bit of Korean since he was there for so long. So he probably understood everything she said, just may not be able to speak perfectly back. You could tell his wife was confused a bit, but Suley definitely could understand her.

Bruh there are real Ottoman records about Armenians, Armenians formed gangs and hurt Turkish people during WW1. That's why they were relocated, but were unfortunately killed on their way, by diseases. Some misinformed Turks also did attack them, but they only did it because they thought Armenians were there to hurt them. You can also see Ottomans recorded relocated Armenians' properties, to return them to Armenians after the war is over. i think adopting orphans and taking care of them wherever they were stationed (they moved place to place and had to take the children with them sometimes) helped them mentally too. korean war was not just about shooting and bombing. especially in turkish vs chinese fronts there were many occassions they relied solely on bayonets and knives like in the ww i. they probably witnessed terrible things we can't dream of. keeping children relying on them probably assisted to keep their humanity intact and raised their morale in a fight thinking if they fall, children would do too.
Alot of the times why the bio dad's aren't around is because of drama from the mom.

The moment that he said he spared money to give her as pocket money; which is a Turkish tradition on religious festivals, is really touching. That is the sign they have really deep father - daughter bond
I wonder why he couldn't take her with him or adopt her.
💖💖💖💖
During war and chaotic situation I don't think Korea government has time to entertain such request for adoption especially from outsiders..and most country would not allowed their orphans to be taken away from their country..
You don’t have to be Turkish or Korean to appreciate the humanity that these two people and their families shared. A shout out to those who made the reunion possible and also, many thanks to the makers of Kleenex.
Yeah but actually you don’t have to be American soldier definitely because they stolen a kids from Korean War and Vietnam Var

But the traslation is not 100% correkt. 25:29 He said here they've (North-korean/Chinese) killed her father and her mother. The translation said: She lost her parents. 29:34 He said here after his friend was wounded, after that the CHINESE shot in his Head. That wasn't translated right on purpose...

Very true, it's amazing that after all those years, they were like litte ones and like all of a sudden time has stopped and rewound to help bond and effection as if they were never seperated..
He said, “I won't die without seeing Alya” he saw and died, rest in peace, beautiful man.

I couldn't control my tears. May God have mercy on our martyrs and veterans 🇹🇷🇰🇷
Hopefully 🙏🙏🙏 we will always be Atatürks soldiers no matter what! And what a great men he was, you were lucky!
Iyi asimile olmussun. Ismini degistirecek kadar
Great story l couldn't stop to cry.
Good karma always comes back!
Did he really pass away?

Oh so sad maybe he’s waiting only to see Ayla with him…love is so great that they have time to see each other ❤❤❤ RIP Mr. Suleyman❤

Hi,you wrote it so beautifully, you are right about "good heart". Unfortunately, some people mix religion into this true story, but all you need is humanity and a good heart and nothing else, no matter what country you come from. İ cried a lot too. 👋 Greetings from germany.

Not according to Armenians and Kurds.
@@AndalusianPrince There wasn't an Armenian genocide. Please make some real research before accusing people of doing something they actually didn't. Even if we forgive Armenians, they continue to accuse us of genocide even in these days because of wrong history knowledge. I remember being on a plane with a couple of Armenians, and after I told them I'm Turkish, they kept verbally bullying me. We don't hold grudges, but they still do over wrong information.
Ayla craves so much for the love of parents, I hope her children treats her the best. Korean people have such beautiful culture, the way she way massaging their hands and feet. such beautiful family values. Ayla has such kind personality. I wish they let her weep for as much as she wanted.

@Robin W it is hate definitely when you mention the attrocities commited against armenians but ignoring the much worse catastrophic mass killings against turks. And this is called racism. I sincerely beleive that you are a racist and i hope some day your soul heals.🙏
