I keep coming back, Best representation of the tsl on you tube! Glad I bought 2 of them before their value goes up after this video. Especially after you compare it to your 2203. Great job!!
Great demo of this amp. I gigged for years using it. I too used the SD1 to boost the crunch channel for rhythms to get that great boosted JCM800 tone and then used the lead channel for leads with a delay pedal in the loop. Using the lead channel for leads allows you to boost the mids in the EQ and give yourself a volume boost so you don't have to rely on sound guy. Great amp with great pro features. Hard to believe these came out over 20 years ago.
Great video man! I do have the same head since 2014. However, its manufacturing dates back to the original ones released in 2000 which had a severe defect on the mainboard causing a lot of problems on the power tubes, so despite sounding awesome always came with great trouble. Luckily I was able to get the replacement board from Marshall this year and now the beast is alive and well! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Is there a way to tell which year you have? I have had a TSL for probably 8 years but I really have no idea if it’s the one prone to the motherboard issue
Glad I found this. Picked mine up in 1995 when they first came out. Board has been changed and I kind of fell out with it. Never thought of running an sd1 in front. It sounds killer. Amp is staying and an sd1 is on its way. Ace reviews by the way...cheers, M
I finally converted my rhythm guitar player to this amp. We found one on Facebook for $475 and purchased it right on the spot. Already had a decimator and super overdrive. He can’t stop playing it! I play a 5150 III 50 watt. Both amps blend great at rehearsal. The Marshall is so chunky!
Ceci Shaw yeah you sure did. This video def helped me make the final decision on this amp. Amazing tone for $475! Playing through 2, 4x12 vintage 30s cabs def is a perfect mix. Thanks for the amazing review Euge!
I love that they're underrated because they're really a gem! It's been my dream amp since a decade ago and I finally got my hands on a tsl100 and also a 1984 jcm800. Now the jcm800 is WAY louder and punchy, but the distortion and smoothness of the tsl100 keeps it as my #1.
Well, as I listen to you here…I can honestly say that I feel very inspired. Thanks! (Wish I could go back and hang with different people! They say always play with people BETTER than you. Hot Damn!!! Nice! Shhhh...let everyone keep crapping on this amp so I can get em for cheap! It absolutely sounds best in a mix. Can you do an A/B with your favourite 2203 for another video?
It's a really good amp. Never understood why people hate it. I have played the Tsl 60 and own the Tsl 100. Both are excellent. I do know the first run of the JCM 2000 was garbage. Circuit board was awful. But the second run with improved components is great.
Once upon a time, when I was young, dumb, and full of dumb, I owned this same amplifier. I used it with a not so great Vader 4x12 cabinet that I thought was excellent (it wasn't. not for the sound i was looking for at least.), and no overdrive. I had no idea how to dial in tones properly, and used the depth punch (sisu remover) and tone shift (wet blanket) buttons (bad move). I h a t e d the amplifier. Now I'm a bit older and much more experienced... I wondered about picking up one of these again to have around the studio, and how it would do. Now I know. Thanks Euge!
😎 The prices are quite low (for now) so I recommend. It’s a great & versatile all around amp and especially the clean channel (I’ve done a separate video about that) is awesome👌. It’s my go to amp in my studio for cleans and occasionally distorded sounds too (I have a few brutal sounding JCM800 2203s for that 😎💪.

I'm looking a distortion not as "fizzy" but consistent and warm (to play progressive metal, heavy metal and sometimes hard rock, pop, etc.), without cutting to much trebles. Could someone help me?
The JCM2000 series were fucking killer. I own an early JCM2000 DSL 100w head, had it about 5 years. I'll never part from it. I hear a lot of people talk about these amps being too fizzy, but once you get the amp master past 2 or 3, holy shit. Lol. And I really cant complain about the onboard spring reverb either. I've been lucky enough to try the TSL only once, and I wasnt dissapointed.
I hear what you’re saying about the tone shift but for some reason I’m finding myself enjoying it but maybe it’s the scooped feel I personally like in sound or my ears are just shitty lol.
WOW!, I've been looking for something to replace the MESA I had to sell. I tune pretty low on my 6 string and when I get my 7, I'll be in open C with an added G on the 7th. How do you think It'll handle that tuning with an overdrive pedal?.
Exellent review of this "beast". I have one since 2005 and remember it was at that time marshall flag ship, before JVM came in. People hate this amp because they don't know how to properly dial it. Hello Euge, I really like your channel, it´s interesting and fun listening to you talking. One question please, do you find yourself using the Bogren IR´s more often over your Ownhammer ones since you have them? I´m thinking about getting them but not quite sure as there are so many IR´s around, thanks.
Glad to hear! Thanks! Lately I've been using the Bogren IR's more 'cos the pack is so simple: 27 IR's and they all sound great and are mix ready. But on the other hand I use Ownhammer's IR of a Marshall cab w/ V30s a lot too. Both sound great! Bogren's IRs are a bit more metal whereas the Ownhammer Marshall is a bit more "traditional".
Euge, you’re saying that you have the master cranked and it’s running into something else that makes it more manageable in the room without blowing you out? What are you using again? I can’t seem to remember what you said in another video. Like you can crank the master on the amp and then you turned down another device to make it where it didn’t kill your ears. Would love to know what you use there.

great video man. I have the tsl602 version of the amp...I experiment with both a TS9/TS808 boost and an 10-band EQ at the front and both make the amp "bark" like a beast although the EQ gives you a more room to shape the sound...however my amp sounds a bit "dry" compared to yours and I was wondering whether this has something to do with you actually recording the amp through the mic or if my tubes are fucked up..:P...anyway good work...I would love to see a comparison of the JCM2000 with more "modern" amps like the 5150/6505 or the engl powerball...please make one if you can...:)...one question...are you in drop D tuning?
Thanks! Glad to hear! I actually used Suhr Reactive Load IR -> audio interface -> Logic and not the mic’d cab 😊. I had the master around 5 (below that the amp sounds a bit fizzy) and there’s no way I could play with that volume in the apartment if I’d use a 4x12 cab 😁. Probably the tubes. It is indeed. It comes from the bad PCB boards, and some other flaws they used to have. Mine had a bias drift and grounding issues in the speaker out jacks but those were easy to fix. Haven’t had a single problem since then.
The bias needs to be adjusted on tube amps (in general) every time you put a new power tubes no matter the brand (of the tubes and the amp). That’s not actually modding but if you put new power tubes without biasing the amp to the said tubes it’ll sound most likely like shit or in the worst case can cause damage to the amp. But if the amp is fundamentally cold biased by the design, like the original Peavey 5150, you can throw whatever tubes in it and they’ll work.
😁👍. I have or have had TAD, GT, Tung Sol, JJ, Svetlana & ENGL (which are actually JJs) on my Marshalls and they all work just fine. And a qualified amp tech always biases my amps when I’m changing power tubes 🤘

Usually JJ ECC83S on all my amps. With power tubes I’m not that picky. I have JJ, Tung-Sol, TAD, Svetlana etc. I think it’s Svetlanas on this one.
Does the TEL100 have digital or spring reverb?
*TSL100
Spring 😊
@@EugeValovirta230V Have you ever compared tsl 60 and 100? Which one do you prefer?
I haven’t but would be interesting 👍
@@EugeValovirta230V Go ahead. ;-)
I’ve found that using the vps switch does shitty things to the low end on this amp.
Brother you'd love a dmoll....
Yeah I’ve heard great things about it but never had a change to try one.
@@EugeValovirta230V ....thanks for responding man...ive played thru a used dmoll, it was amazing, and you dont need an overdrive pedal to get a heavy metal sound!....if you could get a chance to play a vh4 or a Herbert, you wouldn't be disappointed trust me!
Euge, no matter what amp you play thru, it freaking sounds amazing.
Ever played through a Splawn Nitro? If you like that Marshall aggressiveness, you might like their QuickRod or even their Nitro. Check out my Videos on my channel for sound ideas of the Nitro :-)
Testaillut aikoinaan kaverin TSL602 comboo ja omasta mielestä toimii paremmin tollaseen 80-90 luvun hardrock musaa tai 2000-luvun sleazerock kamaan kuin semmoseen rankkaa mättöö kute children of bodom slayer etc....
The TSL is a sick amp that gets alot of negative press for literally no reason.
It is indeed. It comes from the bad PCB boards, and some other flaws they used to have. Mine had a bias drift and grounding issues in the speaker out jacks but those were easy to fix. Haven’t had a single problem since then.
deep switch always on,ha? ;)
Deep is good, shallow is bad 😎
@@EugeValovirta230V is it true that Other Power Tubes than Svetlana need bit of modding ?
The bias needs to be adjusted on tube amps (in general) every time you put a new power tubes no matter the brand (of the tubes and the amp). That’s not actually modding but if you put new power tubes without biasing the amp to the said tubes it’ll sound most likely like shit or in the worst case can cause damage to the amp. But if the amp is fundamentally cold biased by the design, like the original Peavey 5150, you can throw whatever tubes in it and they’ll work.
@@EugeValovirta230V i know about biasing..but it said by Marshall, that Svetlana is Stock. You can not just Put other Power Tubes in ;).
😁👍. I have or have had TAD, GT, Tung Sol, JJ, Svetlana & ENGL (which are actually JJs) on my Marshalls and they all work just fine. And a qualified amp tech always biases my amps when I’m changing power tubes 🤘
What tubes would you recommend for this amp? Mine are about to go and I need a nice replacement.
I have JJ ECC83S on all preamp slots and Svetlana EL34 power amp tubes and I like those a lot 👌👍. JJs would be really good for power amp too.
Euge Valovirta thank you!!
You’re welcome 😊👍
Finally, someone that can play the thing if you can't rock one of these things and sound good you're just not a very good guitar player.
👌😎🙏
