You are my favorite UA-cam account to ever exist. Thank you for displaying these beautiful sound machines.
Great analog synth!!! Perfect for Synthwave music!!!
The sounds of the JX3p formed the core of our sound back in the 80s and certainly contributed to the appeal of our music at the time - enough to get signed to Atlantic Records :)

I know, a little late, but I love the sound of "On An Angel's Wing".
And your wife had a great singing voice!
Who knows where the cold wind blows?
The synth sounds so good especially with those chords being played. Bravo 👏👏👏
This synth has such a nice sound and versatile.
I bought these...Awesome patches! Highly recommended. I've never heard my JX-3P sing like this.
Picked one up with the PG200 last year. Really like it, more flexible than my Juno as you demonstrate well. Just wish it had a second envelope, but it does do a lot of things and was affordable.
If you want to add a second envelope, second LFO, and a boatload of other enhancements....

It's $250 but you essentially get a new synth for that with 100% of the tone and base character of the JX-3P.
The only downside I see is that it disables the PG200 port in the process.
Lovely! Thanks and I like it because I'm happy owner this one great synth
I know it's crazy, but after this video I HAD to buy a jx3p... But the craziest thing Is that I've never played keyboard before.. I'm actually taking lessons.. 😅
@@jp081298 lessons are proceeding fine: once a week with tutor and everyday train for an hour at least .. unfortunately my Jx3p decided to crash, so I had It replaced with a prophet 08 😭
@@andreasilvestri1696 ahhh man, sad to hear. at least you got a pretty nice synth still.
@@droksbeel yep, I agree.. nice synth.. but sooner or later I'll have to put my hands on a system8 😉.. as the Depeche Mode say: "I just can't get enough!!!"
@andrea silvestri I'm sure you're surviving with Prophet 08. 🙂 It's easier to program than the JX-3P if you don't have a PG-200.
Very nice work. I hooked two of these together via MIDI and I layer them. So fat compared to my old Juno 60.
I've got one at home, one of my favorite synths since few years. Great demo right here and your patches sounds fuckin' good man! Well done
sounds great
very good job!!
I had two JX-3P in the 80's. Very good machine. Very nice patchs.
Congratulations @AnalogAudio1 on creating some amazing sounds. I bought these patches a couple of weeks back! the best 12 euros i have ever spent... seriously.
Cheers mate
Awesome sounds! This is tremendously underrated synth! I should get one. It would complement my JX-10 perfectly. I love the 'dirtier' chorus on the 3P. I really like the JX series.
haven't the sounds on a jx 3p this good normal hash sounding mm u certainly brought the best out of great work :)
These pads 😍
Wow, this really brings me back. The JX-3P was my first synth. If I had room for another keyboard, I would definitely pick up another JX-3P. I own pretty much all the classic Roland analog racks (MKS-50, MKS-7, MKS-70, and MKS-80). But there is a unique "spikiness" to the JX-3P that really isn't replicated by the other Roland synths, IMO.
I actually owned one of these in the late 80's and the Soundtrack preset was my favorite instantly.
Thanks for the nostalgic trip. Nice playing!
Great video demo. Just bought a JX3P with Organix mod & a PG200 through eBay.
Great pad sounds! I feel like I'm in space.
JX-3P is always there for me...
Wow, amazing. All of these patches sound soooo great! I’d love to have these patches on my Kiwi-3P. Guess i have to figure it out by myself what you did there...
Супер! 😎😍👍
i both own the jx3p and jx8p both with programmers and a midi kit for the jx3p .. both fantastic synths. it's hard to compare because in the small overlap that they might have they can sound completely different. the jx3p has a more vintage dramatic feel in particular with strings. they both have quite some bottom end, the filters sound different. the 8p with it's unison and more modulation options can sound louder. both can also be used for producing some great sfx.
I think you could legitimately call this collection of patches the Class of '83 Home Video Logo Mega-Pak.
Every time I watch the movie Android (1982), I want to buy one of these.
JX-3P, the first MIDI synthesizer series by Roland. IMHO this is one of Roland's best synthesizers ever, for its versatile range as you can hear in this video. Its analog, but it can sound DX7-ish at times. In fact DX-7 was it's #1 competition in 1983, but the DX-7 won the battle, while JX-3P was forgotten, and now underrated, which means cheaper price for a vintage analog. The sequencer is very basic however, so there is no hold for transpose key while playing octaves in the sequencer. Just keep your finger there. I tried tape but its not weighted so it gets loose, so I used a bottle of water to keep a weight on it.
The favorite synthesizer of Harold Faltemeyer is the JX-3P, and can be seen in soundstracks as Top Gun, Fletch etc .. And also the DX7.

Still own one and I will be parting with it in the near future to help finance the purchase of a Korg Kronos.
I will miss it for sentimental reasons after 29 years but I must move on so someone will be happy when I put it on Ebay.
SupeR !!! (y)
My first synth, I was 21 and didn't know where middle C was :) LOL
It would be seriously cool if you did a head to head of which korgs and Roland's are most comparable in this era and which has the better features/sounds in your opinion, I mean Juno versus poly, that kind of thing.
10:47 oh my gosh that arp/sequence
Not as good for bass as the Junos, but easily one of the best pads synths of all time. Love my JX
1:23 wow so beautiful
I bought the rackversion, MKS-30, with PG200. Very nice sounds. Thank you.
elektrokraut I have the mks30 as well. Do you know if these sounds will work with the mks30?
They're great synths if you can get them with the pg200 for less than 600 UKP in my opinion, and ive owned it twice and the first one was £200 second hand with the programmer..that was back in the 90's. It'd be up there with the classics if the lfo speed was faster at top whack, and the midi was better, but it isnt out of the box, and mods are available if you're so inclined to go that route ( I can hear that one of the patches you play, which is a pad, has portamento style sounds, which is either a long pitch envelope sweeping in or a modification, as it doesnt have portamento on factory spec). But it does have cross mod, osc sync and a great chorus, not to mention the built in sequencer for off the wall and quick draw ideas.
JX3P is very easy to use, also it's quite cheap despite its brilliance.
BUYTHESE SOUNDS!!! i am not kidding. i just got a jx-3p and bought these sounds and loaded them up and holy crap there good. they sound even better than the video . no i wasnt payed to say this . they are just that good. do your self a favor.
High end Roland gloss is there....
I had the chance to buy one of these in a little thrift shop in Manchester and I, for some stupid reason, decided to pass on it D:
GAH! Why was I so stupid!
Just bought one yesterday at my local music store. I saw it there, and said to the gentleman on the floor "If that works, I WILL buy it."
What are your thoughts about the kiwi 3p upgrade? Would your patches work with the upgrade as the tape memory is disabled? Thanks for the videos!
+919ni2c Hi! If the tape interface is lost, you will not be able to load the patches. The patchbank will work just on a JX-3P in original condition.
GHOST FINGERS!
Nice fat sounds.
Such an amazing sounding synth... if only it had shipped with a knobby UI and didn't require a programmer!
Hello, this patches are PG-8X vst compatible? Thanks
ask the developer if it reads original JX3P patches. If he says "yes", then yes
I've been messing around with virtual synths for a long time and am ready to take the next step and get my first actual synthesizer. I really wanted this one, can someone explain what a programmer is (the pg200) and what it does? also am I able to use effect pedals with this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! :)
Pg200 is a programmer so that you can edit the sounds without using the menus to change parameters, its not necessarily the best option as its old and expensive whereas you can buy a brand new one cheaper from another company like mode machines DT200 . You can use an amp with effects pedal yes, just plug the audio out into the effects and the effects pedal to the amp.
I have to recommend finding a synthesizer that has on board controls, like a Juno 60 or Juno 106.
Today kids know nothing ...playing with plugin and some dreaming of a 106 .. they are all wrong ..... JX3P is the perfect analog synth ! Period !
my jx3p works very fine, except, sometimes when i turn the volume knob sometimes it makes crackling noises, and sometimes certain keys have a strange noise. what could be this problem? how to fix?
I also had this problem with the volume knob, but after turning the knob a couple times the crackling noises were gone. I guess it has something to do with corrosion or dirt.
i tried that many times, but no improvement. so i think i may have to open my jx3p and check its connections
I fixed my crackley volume knob by opening up the case and using some deoxit cleaner on the potentiometer.
Can someone set me hip on how the patch-bank is used, I understand somehow it's loaded through the tape interface but with what just your computer? Or? I'm very new to the world of synths and want to know before I spend money. Help a brother out.
+Bearkat the loading procedure is exactly described in the manual. But today the signal comes from a wav file, not from a tape (like in the early days). Everything else is the same.
I just bought a JX-3P but without the PG200, but from what I hear these results can still be obtained without it?
+Herbie Hancock that's right, the JX3P is programmable without the PG200, but it's a pain in the ass... I strongly recommend it.
+Herbie Hancock there are alternative clone devices that can do the job of the pg200.. aswell there should be software that can do it aswell its just a midi controller really that is hardwired to edit certain midi cc + sysex values but of course it is perfectly made to be the companion of the jx3p
+Herbie Hancock You can do all programming directly on the JX-3P, but the PG-200 is so much easier, especially if you are tweaking a sequence or note while playing. Although...You cannot use the PG-200 and MIDI at the same time on stock models. There are aftermarket kits that allow you to do that.
Rise Of The Machine Chris Nova777 AnalogAudio1 Thanks for the responses, looks like the PG-200 is the direction I'm moving in. If only I had a spare £200
I only buy synths you've made videos for.
@AnalogAudio1 would you rather have these patches on a JX-3P with a PG-200 or a JX-3P with a PG-2K? I have both.
I created these sounds with an original PG-200. Without it I wouldn't have the nerves to create 64 patches on that thing ;-)
@@AnalogAudio1 what I was asking is if I load these patches, and tweak them at all, if you have any experience with the Retroaktiv PG-2K if your patches with that unit provided any more flexibility than with the PG-200?
We’re these patches made with a PG200 attachment?
yes, I used the PG200, otherwise programming without it would be no fun, it would be a nightmare
Hi - Question: Would I have to choose which bank of 32 patches to load and not both? I always thought preset banks A and B on the JX-3P were protected...
i wonder why you didnt have a demo of the Roland SH-101 yet...
I had one before UA-cam came along, in 1997... but I sold it few years later, it was not that exciting for me. But it had a good basic sound.
AnalogAudio1 dont u think the sh-101 is a must have for every collector, and not so eciting ?? Oh cmon.. ;)
***** right... I am not a collector in the sense that I must own everything with cult status... I love (and possess) a lot of synths which has no cult status at all. What it counts to me is that I like the sound, possibilities and how the synths behaves. I also like synths like Yamaha SY22, TG77, YS200, Ensoniq VFX
con este teclado se grabo el discazo de clix modernos pero como todos aca son yanquis nadie va a entender lo que digo🤭

Do you want these patches (sounds) for your JX-3P? You can buy these patches. Read the video description for details.
