- We are on the ex-NYC, New York Central, Water Level Route as we watch several Amtrak E8 powered trains. All these locations are on the east shore of the Hudson River between Peekskill, and Breakneck Tunnel near Cold Springs, NY. These clips where filmed between 1976 and 1978. The quality isn't the greatest, use an old Kodak super 8mm sound movie camera, but history of this era is restored for all who are interested. Thanks for watching. Jackmp294.5™...
For thos interested in the north bound with the D&H cars. That was the D&H Adirondack that Amtrak hands over to the D&H. The D&H usually addS their dome car, and the famous PA's for the trip north of Albany. The dome won't fit into Grand Central Terminal, so its added and removed near Albany NY. There is a clip on my channel of the D&H PA's and the added dome at Colonie shops in NY. Its under "D&H PA4's on the Adirondack"

It's nice to see how early Amtrak trains were before the F40s arrived. A great piece of Amtrak history here.

Seeing the Chessie cars gives me the idea that Amtrak should do some cars in heritage schemes. Bring back some rainbow trains!
The blue, yellow and gray cars are Delaware & Hudson.

Phase 1 was awesome. I like it and Phase 4 the best.
I personally like Phase III best. It and Phase II look the most "American". Phase V feels cold and industrial.

When did the Amtrak rainbow era end? Because I see a penn central e8 and I thought it said that the rainbow era ended around 1975

jackmp294.5™ did Amtrak have m5’s and rs5t’s back in the day because they inherited the locomotives. Which means they might’ve had former railroad’s horn of choice
