- Awesome collection of Amtrak, mostly in South Byron, NY at Caswell Road, featuring tons of F40s, and even some GP40TCs, Turboliners, the Danish IC3 Flexliner Amtrak tested, and an FL9. Only a few Genesis type locos were coming online at this time. Lots of great horn action with plenty of sweet K5LAs and P5A action. Empire Service, Maple Leaf, and Lake Shore Limited trains, as well as a few special moves including a delivery pickup of a brand new Viewliner I Sleeper. This awesome compilation was filmed by a guy named Carl.
Love the Doppler effect on the horns.
Me too
The first one sounded like an F59PHi

I feel like the 80s and 90s was really when Amtrak's aesthetics peaked. Hope they keep reviving Phase III
That first GP40TC's K5LA was amazing!, nice compilation!
I know and at the crossing I can't believe they got different sounding k5las
The first train the f40ph sounded like an amtrak f59phi

Gotta love those big tags!!
Real nice video man! Some awesome sounding F40 K5LA's in here! Miss those engines for sure!
Awesome video! Thank you so much for posting. Grew up watching similar consists. Took them for granted then, but really miss those F40's!
Many commuters still use them
First F40 sounds like one that would have gone to The Star in Nashville.
Nice video! Love all the Phase III
Insane collection here! Thanks for sharing!

The Amtrak Turbo-liner has a K5LA
That Turboliner P123A5 makes me itch!! Nasty P5, but good P5.
RxRFan P123 4A 5, old cast P horns are wayyyyyy better than new cast P horns
ICrailfanner I love new casts better. I love the sweet tune they have.
RxRFan new casts have a harsher more low tone, old casts are the ones that have a sweet tune to them.
Sweet tune more like a unique tune
Awesome catches glad to see old videos
4:06 Yoo, that P5 is committing identity theft! (sounding like a K5LA but the timbre is P-horn)
Great Footage in this video!

Sweet video dude!
The 2nd Amtrak Horn Is One Of the Amtrak horns off of roblox
It's sad that Amtrak is not like it was used to be because now they want to split the southwest chief into 3 sections by making the first section on train from LA to Albuquerque, second section on bus from Albuquerque to Kansas City and third section back on train from Kansas City to Chicago I hope this doesn't come into affect
Cool

Amtrak is going to race freight trains

First f40 sounded like a f59phi
0:02 f59phi in hiding?
At 0:47 that F40 has a P5 instead of a K5LA
HuskyTech yes Amtrak used many different horns, I’ll even list them right now
First horn ordered by Amtrak- Leslie SL-4T
2. Nathan P5A/P5
3. Nathan K5LA
4. In one strange case, an F40PH ended up with a Leslie S5T
No Longer Posting Videos also at least one Sdp40f and Turboliner had a s5t. Plus at least one turboliner and f40ph had a sl4t.
@@shanemyoutubeshitanother one ended up with a m5
At 6:20 is that a new Viewliner coming from AMF? If so, did that need the FL9 to get the car through NYP to Sunnyside or was it just there as any old spare motor?
Amtrak706 yes. In believe they just brought them to Albany but don’t know for sure.
What exactly was that GP40TC doing with an FL9 and a coach?
They were fetching a brand new Viewliner Sleeper ( not coach). From the factory
And F9
O:46 is probably a fouled k5la. Or a leslie.
That’s a P5A.
Oh yeah bet right I like the F40PH phases I don’t like F40PHs with ditch lights
If this is New York, then what were UP units doing out that way?
BNSF1995 run thru power, which was very common and is still common on that line today..
Did 49 run at diff times?
Was there more AMTK back then than there is now and what numbers did they use
Kyle Best That's all 48 you see. 49 has always been a night time train through upstate NY even though times do vary over the years.
mdamttc199 so what about all the short ones?
Idk, check out timetable.org.
Kyle Best Amtrak F40PH's were numbered 200-450 I think, now they'rr numbered 90200-90250
200-415 and 410-415 were ex GO Transit units. Amtrak ran their last F40 in 2002; the 90xxx series conversions are NPCUs (Non-Powered Control Units) and are not consecutively numbered as there are only about 20 of them. 90200 to somewhere in the 904xx series I believe.
9:23 is that the muffler and did they remove them years later?
I heard that same noise only on 706 in 2023
