I have zero use in a mower of that size but this video sure makes me want one. LoL
Same
Same. Looks like fun.
That 2038r and the Rhino mower did an amazing job on that super-thick grass and the saplings too. This video shows what can be done with an outfit like that.
Tractors this size have a 9 or 10" clutch disc for the pto. It's extremely easy for this much rotating mass to overpower that clutch. And if it doesn't slip it will stall the tractor very hard, which can definitely break crankshafts or pto/transmission shafts. I've replaced the dual disc clutch in my mahindra 2816 and it was quite a job. My 5' bush hog can kill the tractor when I hit rough stuff also, no way would I want more.
Pretty amazing that little tractor can handle that size mower, in my neck of the woods they use a 70 to 100 hp. tractor with that size mower.
You are confusing a 10 foot with 15 foot mower. I have owned two 15 footers. Never seen a 10 footer with two wings until this video - but I have seen a 15 footer minus a wing, making it a 10 footer.
Lets see it on a steep hill or a steep bank. Where that tractor has to hold the weight of the brushhog back! It would throw that thing down the stuff I mow! Also that is very light brush. I mean what mostly ankle to shin height. So not much PTO HP is needed to gut it. We have a 8' a 12' and a 15' brushhogs. We work the heck out of them.
Hard to believe that little tractor will handle 10 foot of mower but seeing is believing
When I am able to get one of these it sure is going to make those 10+ acres jobs so much faster. Thanks again Tim for all your work!
I was impressed with the fact that so little of a tractor could handle that mower.
my 23 hp can handle 2 flail mowers with total width of 8ft 8"
I wouldn't call that handling it. I call it barely doing the job. The cut isn't very good. Should have a 75hp on it.
My 28hp mahindra is just perfect for my 5' bush-hog. No way would I want more. That 10' cutter is a lot of rotating mass that can do a lot of damage to the PTO clutch or even the engine crankshaft if the clutch doesn't give when you hit something hard. Nobody to blame but yourself when you overload your machine that much.
Let’s just tear the hydrostat out of it.
Would be interested to understand exactly how running this mower could damage the hydrostatic transmission at all!!
Thanks for showing more about the mower and some things about it that would help in deciding whether to purchase one or not.
Great video as always :)
One of the best videos from you guys... I really enjoyed it...Thank You all
Really enjoyed the commentary that you include in your videos it actually explained stuff I was wondering about
The Rhino does a great cutting job! The 2038r handled the mower very well!
Brought back memories... we had 5 acres and an old Ford 9N... loved using the brush hog to take it down. Good memories... I think it is a sense of accomplishment.
Wow that compact Deere was putting in some work and it was cutting above it's weight class with the 10ft Rhino and Johnny 2.0 was not even winded impressive 👍. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Tim and Christie for all your wonderful videos that are helping me make informed decisions about the equipment I will need in the immediate future. I'm sold on the combination of tractor and mower, now all I need is the perfect property (for us) and that's on our daily prayer list!
Im just amazed at how good the 2038r pulls the ts10 great video thanks for sharing
One thing I really like about your channel is that you show how much you can really do with a small tractor. Very surprised how well it handled that mower, and in other videos the 1025 did things I never thought possible with a subcompact.
Thanks! I really didn’t think the 2038r would handle this mower as well as it does! I think dealers are underselling it. It works well!
Tractor Time with Tim what horse power is your tractor? I have a 3038e
Should be about the same horsepower as your 3038e. This mower would probably perform about the same as you see in this video.
Videos like this one are so informative, you just can’t find info about tractors and implements like these anywhere else then UA-cam. Thanks and keep all different types of videos coming.
Wow that little traktor does an incredible job .also as well christi on the camera.have a nice week .
Great video I love that batwing mower it really seems to be a high quality mower I think it done great along the fence line and how you can back into places that are too low for the tractor to get under if I had a lot of land to mow I would definitely buy one of these batwing mowers a few years ago I had a yanmar 1900 with a 5 foot brush hog it really performed well thank you for sharing
Tim in stead of 5⭐'s you get 5🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔'S for this video loved it even though I don't own a Johnny or any other type of tractor's do to health reasons I don't operate any kind of machinery it's just not safe, that being said your videos are amazing and informative, entertaining and fun to watch thank you God bless yall from Gaffney South Carolina ✌️♥️🙏
The mower and tractor work well together.
Hay thanks for pointing out the things I would brake and be frustrated with that is a real review and your wife does a wonderful job videoing and showing all of this and thank you too
Thanks Randy. I hoped folks would find this information helpful. None of it should deter anyone from buying this mower. In fact, it should HELP folks who are thinking about buying this mower. I have laid out every fitment item I encountered. ...so folks should not experience any surprises.
That thing doesn't care at all, it just does it! I'm really impressed by that.
Enjoyed the drone footage. The mower did a good job fast!
I was wondering who was operating the drone. Great work Christie
Nice video tim and kristie and nice job.,Johnny has real power with that mower💪💪
Im impressed with the way it handled the mower. A 3046R and this mower would make a great combo.
I intended to say that in the video...but forgot! I think a 3046R with cab would be the perfect tractor for this mower.
I agree - great work by the videographer.
Great video, especially the aerial footage. Informative and (strangely?)soothing to watch. I hope you go back to finish and include some shots of working around the pond.
Yes, we did...and we will publish as a separate episode.
What a beautiful property as well nothing better then a green tractor and some wonderful land to mow
8:04, the point was on a 3 point single rotary mower guide wheel. Those wheels sway the mower side-to-side when turning around during direction changes.
Thanks for the info Tim!
Hi Tim,
Great video. The Rhino mower really does a great job, especially on such a small tractor! Christy, great camera work!
For those rough edge trimming, a larger tractor and wider batwing would have been nice as it's difficult to see what your getting into as well as the tractor being a bit farther from the woods. But what you did get looks awesome!
I just got a new 3035, I’m amazed at the power it has for its size, I mainly mow fields and do some plowing and tiller work. But I’m really interested in maybe an 8’ pull behind, I love the way it mows!! I’ve had a Kubota and An old 801 Ford for a long time, the new JD is a pleasure to run, great video and now I’m gonna be looking for a pull behind!
I'm a huge fan of a 15' batwing, but I like this 10' option. Like you mentioned about 3 SCV's allowing the independent control of each wing, it's my favorite option, especially going over larger sprouts/trees, if it starts to bog down I can clutch lift the wing and ease it back down and finish them off. When cutting thickets like that I try to stay on the uncut portion not to puncture the tires as the sprouts can bend down, but the left overs tend to be stiff enough to go into the tires. It's hard to find tractors that are set up with 3 SCV's in the used market, and some manufacturers don't allow for that many to be added to their tractors.
Well done Tim. Great drone shots!
Wow, nice work. I like the way it turns with the shorter tractor. You could swing around the outcroppings but the cutter hardly moved out, so it would cut right under what you had to go around.
It's got to be a bit scary cutting land you're not familiar with.
Most satisfying video of the day. My OCD thanks you 😁
Great video Tim. The Rhino Rep. he mentioned to me that the TS10 will mow faster and better than the TS12 in most conditions, when pulled behind my JD5.
We ran a 15 ft for 2 years mowing 400 acres of pecan orchards and then upgrade to a 20 ft. We have to run slower with the 20 bc it is much heavier than the 15 and bounces a lot and left skips in the grass but even running at the slower speed 20 is still a tad bit faster than the 15 and I can't tell a difference in cut
Best batwing mowing video I have seen
I always do my trimming and the outside edges first then everything else
I pulled a 15' batwing type mower for years for a state highway dept. Not only do they make quick work of large open areas, they allow for great trimming advantages. Hanging over ditch banks, pond banks, backing under trees and overhanging obstructions. We started using +/- 50 HP gas tractors then eventually 90 HP diesels. One bit of advice, when trimming in unknown areas, always back in slowly, easier on the tractor to get yourself out. Obviously that mower has CV joints behind the tractor to allow for your turning radius, that's great but in time they wear out like anything. Good video Tim.
Hey tim! I know you probably have thousands of other amazing tractors in future videos but if you ever want to test a sub compact maybe try a Simplicity legacy with a backhoe and loader or any interesting stuff like that! Great video!
Really impressed by both units. Nice video work. Would love me a 15’ rhino batwing
I really enjoy this episode :)
Good morning everybody!
Tim and Christine: You guys put out the very best videos. So informative and so it tune in telling us the information we watch these videos to learn. Thanks so much and thanks for the Christian message at the end of the videos..
Thanks very much for the encouraging words. Keith! Share with your friends!
Thank you for the scripture at the end!
Every episode! Thanks for watching.
Nice review on the equipment
Love it back to work. 👍
That would be great behind my JD 4052R. Like other posts, it would be cool, but my JD 6ft. 3point mower gets it done...just takes longer. Great video and info. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you folks.
Yes, this would be perfect for your 4052R. ...and it would cut better than the 6ft 3point mower. ...at least that is my experience. Still, $10k+ is lots of money for something you are already able to do with current equipment!
great vid Tim
Tim, THANK YOU for posting another video with the TS10. I think you've sold me on purchasing one for myself. I see they also are available in green. 😁
I can't remember what tractor you have... but yes, this TS10 is the real deal!
I also have the 2038R. Do you think you would recommend a draw bar with a little more height to gain a little more clearance for the hitch?
Yes. Is there an 'offset drawbar' available for it? ...as long as you maintain the 8" separation to the PTO, a bit more drawbar height would be great. I believe I measured 11-12" vertical separation...so we could raise the drawbar 3 inches without issue. That would help a lot!
I love the "pull behind" brush hogs. They was the first big mower i ran. Too bad everything appears to be going towards 3pt now.
Not for the larger mowers, Chris.
Holy batwing mega mowing job made easy with a yes I can yes I can tractor........nice
"There is a limit to everything" - Quote of the day.
Great video, I absolutely love all of your content
Thanks! Appreciate you watching!
It is totally amazing what can be done with these compact tractors. I bale hay with my New Holland TC24D using a Deere 24T baler pulling a hay rack. The field is flat so I can even get 130 bales on the rack and still pull it. I would never try it in a field with much slope as I am sure the weight would push the tractor down hill and be dangerous.
Rhino probably loves you guys! I wish I could end up with one of those for my families New Holland tn55. I believe I have a video of it on my channel. We have a few different farms that take days to cut with a 6 foot 3 point bushhog. Thanks for the video. I liked and added to my favorites!
Rhino is a great partner.
We never make tight turns with batwings like that. It is hard on the joints. Make your pass down the left and your return pass down the middle. Then you simply move over to the right each pass. It takes all the tight turns out of the job.
Yeah you can tell he hasn't serviced this yet that's way to sharp but hey you have to learn somehow
The
I approach a field this way with my 7 foot. Faster and easier
Makes me want a 2038R. Still contemplating between a 1025R, 2025R, & 2038R.
I just bought a JD 4720 and looking for a cutter for property similar to this except really hilly. This cutter is on my short list, along with a couple of 12-foot bat wings. Really good info, especially when you talked about the drawbar restrictions. Thanks!
I run a John Deere 5300 pulling a John Deere MX10 rotary cutter on rolling hilly southwestern Pennsylvania farmland.
I need to downshift to 1st gear while mowing up a moderately steep hill. I wish I had a bit more horsepower.
According to my tractor’s manual “Factory Observed PTO Power” is 50 horsepower. I should also say that I have a geared transmission and 4 wheel drive.
For the situation you describe, a 12 foot mower would probably be a bit much for your tractor. I looked up specs on your tractor and see 50 hp at the PTO.
And you describe your land as “really hilly”.
I think even with a 10 foot cutter you will be in the same boat as me, wanting a bigger tractor or a smaller cutter.
Great video!
I would have to use my 6' flail mower for that. Couldn't do the big buses, but the final look would be awesome.
If you ever get a chance try a John Deere 955, even with the 72" finish mower that tractor will cut through deep thick weeds no problem. You would really like the 955.
Great job!
Great video Tim, this is exactly what I was looking for when I commented after your last 38R/flex wing video. Tractor handles that mower with ease, still thinking 3R but now I know the 39R will handle that mower.
i'm thinking the 46r would be worth your $$ for this mower. In fact, I think the 3046r with cab might be the 'perfect' machine for this mower.
@@TractorTimewithTim I better not let my wife read this, she thinks I spend enough money already by watching your videos. LOL
Uhoh. Another tractor wife who has me on their black list!!
Nice job!
Great Video 👍👏♥️
That was a great video. I was surprised at how it cut some of those trees.
It looked like you could have sharpened the edge especially on the left side after you cut those bigger trees.
Didn't hurt the blades at all.
To keep the weeds from caughting on the hitch we would bilt a piece of old rub tube in front the hitch a couple of inches wide and long enough to go under the hitch pin.
Yes he was talking about a 3pt mower. When running a 3pt mower you are supposed to run with the sway bars in the slotted holes or your sway chains loosened to allow the mower to move. In case you accidentally hit something on the side the mower can move rather than be stationary
Just got my new ls mt2 tractor this week and it is a much larger body than the John deere 2 series I thought they were the same size but I was wrong got my mt240 with loader and forks for 16k it was 2019 hold over but I love it so far not as cushy as my kioti but much larger
Good job
Now to make it look really good, have it raked and baled.
Nice mower
That mower and tractor was a great combination and doing a fine job, but where I live we can't use a mower that large as we have some trees close together and I could not get around them without damaging the trees or the tractor and mower. The state contractors use mowers that size to clean up along the highways and those mowers works just fine fore that.
like your videos big mower good job god bless
Tim, you did a good job on that open space. Wonder what it would look like if you mowed it again in a couple of weeks but mow it cross ways or at an angle from the way you mowed it. Thinking it would cut it up better.
Yes. A second cutting would be great.
Grow it and Tim will come. sounds like a new movie title
Great job enjoyed that, nice cutting you need a canopy on jonnie!!!!
I have a canopy. It was a very nice day that day, and I wanted the video (drone) to be able to see me.clearly.
We have an episode showing two canopies...their similarities and differences.
Nice video
That’s a smalll tractor handling it good vid
good job weed three john two works real good god bliess you&all
Another great video.
That Batwing is amazing.
QQ, what brand/model is that grappel.
Good video Tim. Does that mower have a slip clutch? It killed the tractor on the one pass. I'm glad no damage was done to your tractor.
I have a neighbor on my left and right who have tractors and not one of them offered to bushhog a small part of our property, they just show off what they have, I wish I had a neighbor like Tim!
Maybe you should ask???
Not polite to be on your neighbor's property without their permission! Could cause hard feelings. Ask for their help..
@@captseamus That's funny cause they both maneuver their tractors on our property and I don't have issues with that..still no offer haha
What’s with all the thumbs down.. ba ha good work as always!!
I have no need for a batwing mower on my .25 acre yard but damn that would be fun to drive! I think I'd run over my shrubs just watch be mulch in 2 seconds. It would be worth it.
I feel like it probably wouldn't mow that when it's fresh and green in the spring, either way I'm very impressed. I have a 3 point hitch mower that may be a bit bigger or the same, thinking 12 feet but it has wings that swing in and out, very good at getting around things and under things. Very heavy, but very good for getting around an orchard, I run it on an 80-95hp tractor though. That is more of a bush hog though and this is more of a giant lawnmower with alot more blades so alot of resistance. Something like that though I could sure keep the farm cleaned up nice, orchard mower is not great in really tall grass, leaves lines. Biggest worry I see is that your small tractor may not tolerate all that shock and impact over time, either way i love that mower.
That's really impressive you could pull a 10' mower! I use a 5' rotary cutter on my Kubota B3200 and I don't think it would handle a lot more.
Bush hogs require more size and hp due to weight than a pull type. I think your Kubota is similar hp to what he is using. It could handle it for normal cutting but would be hard pressed in heavier stuff. Also the drawbar height would be a problem.
Same here but I'm also mowing couple foot tall thick stuff. He's mowing pretty low stuff
Hope to see some more videos on the new bobcat sub compacts!
I just saw an ad for them. Would like to know more although I'm pretty settled at this point on getting a Deere with maybe still a small consideration of Kubota. There's just some things I really don't like about them (fuel fill, metal hood, Treadle pedal).
@@danielsharon524 Just purchased a 3038r very happy with it!
@@emanstrathman1477 For my property, a 1025R is big enough. I want to do some work for hire and it may be fine for that too. I really like the size of the 2025R & B2601 but then I think if I'm going to that frame size, why go a few inches bigger to a 2038R although it's really too big for what I need @ home. Decisions, decisions, decisions...
Tim Christi you show us that a smaller tractor and mower can get ot done
God Bless All
PaK
Need to mower opposite direction to knock down the veg. Ridges...thanks for the show
Would like to have seen a shot of how you trailered the set up out to the estate and how you did your tie down points.
In this case, we just drove it across the road from our house :-)
@@TractorTimewithTim It is a little loud at work where I am , I may have missed you saying that.
I doubt that we mentioned it...but Chris is the neighbor across the street. He has been in a couple of prior episodes.
Did you steal hydraulics from the loader for the wings and lift feature OR do you have an SVC?
Hi Tim that would be good test for the Bobcats tractor
I love this combo, that mower cuts beautifully, we always have "tracks" left from run over vegation with our 60in rotary cutter.
We currently have the small framed 2032R, to small for a Rhino like this right now but hoping to upgrade next year. Would like to go to a 3046r, I think a 10ft Rhino would be perfect behind it.
Now that your getting more hours on them, how are you liking those tires so far?
Yes, a 3046r would be perfect for this mower!
The tires are ok.
Would not have thought enough PTO hp to pull that thru some of that gnarly stuff. But seeing is believing.
I agree. I have same opinion as you. It handled it much better than I expected.
I’ve been looking into this bush hog for a while now but I don’t think it can handle me lol I’m alittle rough with mine
Great informative video as always! What kind of drone do you guys use anyway?
