Rum balls might be my favorite cookie/candy/amazingly delicious treat, I love how the toasted nuts, cocoa, cookies, and rum come together in a moist chewy, crunchy bite-sized bit of wonder! And yes you can make these with bourbon, brandy or whiskey too. Do these count as Cristmas cookies??
By the By, you really need to try bourbon balls, kinda amazball...

Mary Berry is royalty here in uk , she’s a legend 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Rum, toasted pecans, and toasty John SECONDS into the video!?
My heart is full.
These are made in my family for decades. I use graham crackers with or without cinnamon, add some coffee to enhance chocolate flavor, melted dark chocolate ( Lindt or Dove , or any fancy European chocolate) , and roasted hazelnuts instead of pecans. Lots of rum !!! Coconut 🥥 is also great to enhance nut flavor with Malibu rum .
I just made a double batch. The second batch I toasted coconut in place of the pecans and used coconut rum. Wow!
Wow Will have to try that!
1/3 cup of rum really means 1/2 cup boys and girls.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk 😂
I guess Im pretty randomly asking but do anybody know of a good place to stream new movies online ?
@Aarav Everett i would suggest flixzone. You can find it on google :)
I use 1 cup of burbon. I like 'em strong! 😆😆😆
And then the next day... "BUT WHY IS THE RUM GONE?!" in your best pirate voice!
ua-cam.com/video/JImcvtJzIK8/v-deo.html
I make them with the vanilla cream filled wafers (they look like the inside of a coffee crisp). 2 packs, 2 heaping tablespoons of cocoa and 1/4 cup of dark rum. Easy peasy!
OMG! My dad used to make these every year when I was a kid I can still see him making them. He didn’t have the benefit of a food processor… LOL I may just have to give this recipe a shot.
Got to make the rum balls!
"If they're a little dry, just add a little more liquid. Any one you want" as you're shaking the rum bottle! That made me laugh 😂 btw, I call them 'nilla wafers too.
A cap of Orange Liquor
In Germany they use left over cakes that they didn’t sell the day before, sometimes you find pieces of walnuts or fruit and the rum balls are the size of your fist. A perfect winter breakfast 😂
Oh my GOD! The rum balls are soooo good. Thank you John, for another great recipe.
Love the way you measured that rum.
Oh thank you for this recipe... I have never had rum balls. I think this is a new favorite to give as gifts and to enjoy myself
I'm always so happy to see a new recipe from you. Your videos are a delight to watch and your recipes turn out so pretty and delicious! Thank you for sharing with us.
"nu uh, not in my house, not around my kids" LOL. How many of these did you have before filming?? Most hilarious video yet.
That was so funny to me!
You can use rum essence instead of normal rum
Lol, lol , lol
@@robertchinnock8017 yea ...but why 😐
@@pennysue8849 if you have kids and people who have to drive home after Christmas lunch or dinner... thats why
At work one year we started Black Friday with some spiked Hot Chocolate, followed by some very strong rum balls. It was the most enjoyable Black Friday I'd ever experienced, and I've worked them for 20 years. lol.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't figure out how to put together my food processor.
I have the same issue with my food processor.
Very good recipe mine uses condensed milk and to be refrigerated 24-72 hrs ahead. I’ve made them for years and years and ship half to my married grandson across the miles always at Christmas time. Love your recipes and I to love watching Mary.
I'm just imaging how delicious these are and I'm totally drooling!
This episode reminds me of a quote by Julia Child. "...and one for the chef"!
You have inspired me to make these.....My mother made them with a maraschino cherry inside. That fruit got very strong after awhile. Love your videos.
You are so pleasant to watch. I used your banana cream pie recipe and got so many compliments. These rum balls looks delish
I absolutely love all your recipes. You've helped make my cooking more delicious. Thank you
Mary Berry is defiantly an icon she is on tv in the uk loads
"These have everything! There's chocolate, there's RUM, there's crunchy cookies, there's RUM, there's toasted pecans, there's RUM.... I don't know what else you could need!?!" 😄😄😄 Yup! Agree! AARGGH! 🍷🍫🍪
So adorable! Making these now.
Rum balls! We are there! These look great and this video was so fun to watch. Happy Holidays!
Thank you! It is such a good recipe, I had to make the vanilla wafers my self. They don’t sell them here in Japan.
Rum balls are my all time favourite thing. Like, it was my pick me up when i was a kid (yes, you can have non-alcoholic ones as kid). i searched and searched for a good rum ball but couldn't find it and then BAAM! Your video!! i can finally make it! YES! ToT ♥ ♥ ♥
I don't have a processor, so I just put the nillas in a large freezer bag and roll them to crumbs. Very popular. Also, I use liquers like Amaretto, since rumballs smell too clinical to me. Great video!
OMG. Yum! Can't wait to try these! Thanks for another great video.
I’ll have to try these.. They look delicious John.
“Not in my house, not around my kids” 🤣🤣💕
Love your humor as well as your recipes.
John, not only do you provide wonderful recipes, your delivery is fantastic. I absolutely love your personality and enjoy watching each video, and yes, even (or especially) the OOPS moments. I've never used confectioner's sugar in Rum Balls, just the honey and once or twice with cocoa powder. Anyway they look great. Have an Awesome weekend and Merry Christmas wishes to you and your family.
My grandma loves rum and rum balls. I’m going to make these and surprise her
My grandmother used to make these and as a child I thought they were "yucky", now I love them!!
You are having too much fun!! So cute to watch the food processor to surprise you!! Yummy recipe!
I love watching you cook, bake, etc. Seeing Ina and Jerry walking in the park! How awesome is that?
Or roll in chocolate sprinkles! Your rum balls look yummy! Thank you
I am going to try these rum balls, maybe early March .
I love the "careful" measurement of rum. 😂😂
My mom has a giant measuring cup like the one you used. She uses it to mix together the liquids for her broth soups as well as pancake and waffle batters.
Made them last night from my grandmothers recipe from the 60s.
It called for 2 Tbsp. Corn syrup. Found some organic at Sprouts farmers market. Used Walnuts , Jameson's and vanilla extract.
I love ALL of your videos .... but this is the best ever! Merry Christmas!!
This video is everything
This is the earliest I’ve ever been for a video lol love your recipes!
Yay! 🥇 Thanks so much!
I love puppy chow!
Tried these today..with some Marie biscuits as didn't have vanilla wafers ..but must say they turned out fantastic..thanks
chocolate sprinkles is how I always do it - I like your creative toppings too!
OMG! All that I remember aboot Rum Balls is being disgusted by them, even as a young adult, but these were effing delicious!
Yes, they will make an excellent crust for something too. This is a simple recipe with easily interchangeable ingrediants.
Delicious! I need to try making these.
OMG you made me chuckle! Thank you for sharing! I'm an Ina Fangirl too!
OMG! I can make this exact recipe (opens cabinet drinks chairman's spice, forgets about baking)🇱🇨
I have a small bottle right now so I’m about to make these. 🇱🇨🇱🇨
Thanks John, now my parties can be merry and bright. I just hope my guest will like pumkin pie again! Lol
I tried this recipe last night. Came out excellent.
Making these today and yes RUM will be added in generous amounts!! Great Recipe!!!
Thank you so much I've been on your UA-cam page. And I enjoyed making this I just did it and hopefully my husband would like it for the holidays thank you again for sharing something easy and quick with the family. Truly this is not for children so remember to put your stuff out at a proper time
The main brand is called Nilla Wafers, i think most of us in North America call it that like in some places they use main brands as the word. Example: band-aid, kleenex, hoover.
I'm in Toronto, don't seem to find them, any suggestions?
Lol, that was great! "And Rum"😂👍Thanks for the recipe❤️
Great video, I looked up Mary Berry, never heard of her, I was watching her videos from the 70s.
I have been making these exact rum balls for 30 years! They are always a hit! When I lived and worked in DC, I had gotten many-a high-ranking officials in Washington DC drunk on these. ...Opps, did I not mention they have Rum in them? My bad 🤣
I love those. We usually make them with bourbon, but I saw a recipe for ginger snaps and spiced rum and now I want to those soon. Mine calls for corn syrup, but it looks like honey will hold them together just as well, so good to know. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
I used this recipe with screwball peanut butter whisky and rolled them in cinnamon sugar. I call them screwballs. They’re a hit!
That's almost like "kartoshka," which I absolutely love. The rum balls I made required raisins and a chocolate rum ganache mixed into it which makes it more fatty. I'm gonna try this out and see if the texture is still as chewy
When I was a kid, a bunch of us skipped a lot of church services to go across the street to a Norwegian bakery with Rum balls the size of baseballs, rolled in chocolate sprinkles.. lots of rum. Lots.
Very cheerful presentation of making delicious rum balls, I love it. Thank you.
Ohhhh John, You do love your libations, and your asides make me laugh soooo much!!!
This was awesome, and you are hilarious!!
I made these year and years ago but with brandy. I lost my recipe!😢Thank you!!
OMG, John, just a beautiful set of balls you have there.
It’s called bniwen algerian🇩🇿 sweet made with over left biscuits and dry fruits 😉😁it’s exported to usa 👍🏼great 🥰but without rum 😊
I have one of those large cups. I use it as a mixing bowl and like that it also measures.
Tipsy, annoyed-with-reno John = best John!
Hello John! Another fantastic recipe that we're going to have to borrow from you! Happy holidays to you and yours XOXOX
I’d love to make these with my girls but I have no idea what those little wafer thingies are, (in england a wafer is a cone you put ice cream in) any ideas for an international sub pls? Thank you for this simple fun recipe. Ps love Mary Berry, who doesn’t?
Jodie Bartholomew Oates Nilla Wafers (Brand Name in US)
Thank you so much but these arent available (and had a silly price tag even if they were) so I’m trying to sub them or get an idea of what theyre like. Are they like the biscuit fingers you might soak for a tiriamisu or am I way off?
I just so happen to have a box of "Nilla Wafers" sitting beside me. I believe everyone (almost) calls them by the brand name "Nilla", they are vanilla wafer cookies. Good with tea when you have an upset stomach.
You are so hilarious! I thought you rounded the bend when you said the dry ingredients reminded you of puppy chow lol. I had never heard of a treat called that! 😂
Love love love your recipes and watching you cook! :)
Did you "sample" the rum on an empty stomach? ;) This is my new favorite video of yours, and I can't wait to try the recipe!
Be sure and hydrate well after eating a few of these
I'm glad you didn't use corn syrup. I will make these.
We all need a little more rum in our lives...
You crack me up every time I watch your videos. We also love Ina Garten!
Definitely trying these out!
I have been looking for this recipe for years. I ate them as a child at the party thrown by the wife of an American diplomat . I do not think she meant for the children to tuck into them the way we did. I bet they had a good laugh when we worked our way around the bowl full of these 'brandy balls'! - we sat in a corner reading Enid Blyton "s " Adventures on Mystery Moor" and polished off the lot. I think I was 6-7 at the time!! I could never find the recipe but I have always thought of them at Christmas time - always. So thank you so much. HOWEVER we do not have Nilla ( vanilla) biscuits in the UK - Are you able to offer an alternative ( I so want to get this right)? I think shortbread will be too crumbly and oat biscuits too oatsy
I just made these, DELICIOUS !
Preppy Kitchen *Im not a big rum person except at Christmas they have a eggnog/rum in the liquor stores and I believe it's called Tom's eggnog and it sells really fast and it's really good you should try it and maybe try to make a run all at Christmas with it , I would but I'm not sure how.Sorry I got off of what I was asking can you use The Kraken Black Spiced Rum when making these the only reason I ask is that's the only one I have and that's because the liquor store ran out of there eggnog rum and gave my husband this and told him to tell me to mix this together with eggnog and I never did it just didn't taste the same as Tom's.Thanks for another great treat idea and hope you and your husband Stay Safe 😇❤️
Food processor makes this so much quicker. My mom used a hand grinder to make bourbon balls, it's fun the first few times, then your arm gets tired 😃
We made an alcohol free version with juice one year which was also good.
I make a double batch of brownies for my rum balls instead of wafers. However, any crispy cookies can be used or unfrosted cake left sitting out to dry.
Rum balls made with brownies for me. Rum balls made with any old store bought cookies are to give away.
I'm from St. Lucia!!! I'm gonna like and subscribe immediately, because, of course, you used St. Lucian rum in your recipe. (Besides, I always go to your channel for recipes anyway). I'm definitely making these in a couple days. #PeaceAndBlessings.
(PS. Is this Chairman's Reserve Spiced Rum?)
Nice! Very funny too!
Let's get ready to RUM BALLLL!!! I had to.
I make them with Bourbon and use walnuts in place of pecans, and light corn syrup. Otherwise all the same.
You are so nice and kind. I love your videos 👍👏🙏
Oh man I love you 😀 not only an amazing chef with great videos and recipes you’re so darn funny 🤣 thanks for sharing so many amazing recipes with us!
We call the vanilla wafer as Pacencia here in the Philippines 😊
Captain Hook gingerbread rum 😱😍
Jack Sparrow definitely love this
Knedaphi ☠️Is that your alter ego?😃
Just making a batch of these. I’m coating some in canna-infused chocolate for double 😋
I can’t wait to make these!!
