I’m convinced it’s the real thing, but if it’s not, the only other thing I can see is it’s from another man who died the exact same death as described in the gospels. I can think of it as an icon in the sense that I don’t feel I should direct worship at it as an object in intimate contact with Christ, and yet it can only inspire deep worshipful feelings toward the holy Trinity in me when I reflect on it. Exactly how I feel about the gospels and scriptures themselves. They aren’t what I worship, but they inspire me to worship God.
The Body Jesus assumed to appear before the Apostles was not the torn body evidenced by the shroud, although it contained the wounds for Thomas’s benefit. The torn body of Jesus vaporized in the shroud, created the image.
Why on earth did they simply not make sure anyone touched it with out white or better still food grade gloves, now it has DNA of over 40 people at least going back to the 1500's and even at around 600 AD, plus from 31 AD if the DNA survived other than in the blood ,which to date i have not seen the DNA sequencing at all, other than it was middle eastern of origin?
Dna isn’t as definitely instantly transferable by finger touch as you seem to assume. They didn’t have food grade gloves in Middle Ages. It’s a concept invented in the last 100 years.
