- The UK's Poorest area lies in the south West corner of Britain. The County of Cornwall is the Poorest and Most Deprived region of the United Kingdom with Homeless and Poverty statistics Higher than many of the worst effected UK Cities. On the streets of the UK's poorest region I saw shocking Poverty and Homelessness across the County. Cornwall has more people living in Poverty and Homeless in Tents, Caravans and even in the woods than anywhere else in the UK. I Visited The UK's Most Deprived and Poorest towns, To find out what has happened to Cornwall and how the county finds itself on the Brink of a Nightmare Homeless Crisis. Cornwall has been Named 'Tent Town' by the National Tabloids due to the Numerous Sprawling Homeless Encampments across the County. In this video I visit Towns across the county including "Liskeard, Camborne, Truro, Newquay & Bodmin" all of these towns rank amongst the worst towns in the UK due to the shocking poverty and homeless statistics. What I found was shocking levels of Poverty, Deprivation and Depression. Homeless People living in Decaying Tents and Abandoned Buildings sometimes even amongst Graves. In this documentary we uncover the full extent of the Housing Crisis in Cornwall. What I found was thousands of people living homeless on the streets, in Tents, Caravans and temporary accommodation across Cornwall, I spoke with a number of housed Cornwall residents to get an understanding of the problems at play. which include shocking poverty statistics, high rents and a lack of Affordable Housing which has created a perfect storm bringing Cornwall to the Brink of a Crisis. Buckle up as we investigate the UK's poorest area, including the poorest town in the UK.

Came across your channel by chance. Just subbed. That bus was amazing. I wonder if that lady is still a labour supporter? Aka deluded and brainwashed. I dated a woman in Cornwall, carbis bay, fairly humble house, bungalow, worth over half a million. Absolute madness. Great content brother 👊💜👊
Woman has large air bags.
Hi hun I can't believe how much its like dickensian Britain. Ig I had the government's money I'd definatly build much more social housing .
Hi from NY we got the same problem
Imagine thousands of years of habitating your native land and working as a serf every generation, to end up with no home and no claim to your land. All the hard work put in, and to be thanked by being disposed off as trash.
Sadistic society.
Spot on pal 👍
@sgrfppfmnt Yes all the welfare is given to the immgrants.
Wrong, you start from a point where you think there was a unity which was maybe late 16th century but prior to that mayhem and chaos, especially in the UK. So many langues and political ideas. The feudalism was standard that you paid with servitude for the land lords.
simple understanding of how the economy works will show you its the powers at be who are to blame .. everything else is a symptom... so you dont know what your on about
@@jeannemillsom9300Got to blame someone.
In 1986 when visiting Cairo I was taken by a taxi driver through a huge area known as the "City of the Dead" Where people lived in the catacombs & graves of the dead. I was so shocked and appalled. 40 years later its here. Wtf!!!
History repeats itself.
In Britain the poor live like its a 3rd world country.
I went to Cairo last year and the government have spent billions on housing and infrastructure. I wonder where the money came from? But it looks good there now
Breaks my heart to see this. Hope they all get the help they need. Great work on the film highlighting this Joe, you're doing a good thing!
Likewise! Thanks for the kind words and support 🙏👍
The people need a voice in Cornwall. Joe, you are that voice. The MP's need to wake up to this problem. There is no excuse for this. Thank you for showing what is going on. Cities in America are going through that same experience. All the best to you and your family ,👍👍👍👍 mate Jim and Harriet, Richmond, Va.
Hey Jim & Harriet 👋
I just hope this sheds light on the situation and helps in some way. Thanks for the kind words and support 🙏 it really does mean a lot. See you on the next one 👊
It's so heartbreaking to see Cornwall like this! My grandfather came from Cornwall. As a child I remember Cornwall being a beautiful, busy place with no homeless. This is a world wide issue! Over here, we have the exact same thing happening! We have tradesman living out of cars in places like Queenstown, no housing for those who do work, and no housing for those who are struggling. Every single city here, exact same. Rates skyrocketed, people losing their homes, tenants being homeless because landlords either want a higher rent /or selling up. The amount of second homes, international investment (buying our houses) has left a huge shortage for the average kiwi. The lack of compassion, empathy, for those who are seriously struggling its just ghastly! Addiction is an illness. Mental health hospitals some were closed down years a go, people just left to fend for themselves, the mental health system is so broken! Waiting lists are 1 year plus, even charity groups like rape crisis waiting lists at least 1 year. We spent 3 years struggling to keep our son alive. His mental health and autism were extremely bad. He was even released onto the streets of Wellington, as a minor! Even after we told them we were 2 hours drive away to get him, they let him out, saying nothing they could do for him. We searched the streets, day and night many a time for him. If it wasn't for God we are sure he would never of survived. It doesn't take much to help someone. Some sponsor children through organizations like World Vision, yet there own country has just as serious need! We need more people like you!! Keeping it real! There are so many ignorant, naive to what is happening around them. Thanks Joe you are a blessing to those whom need a voice 😊
Thank you for your comment and for watching, I'm really sorry to hear your plight and I hope something changes. This looks to be a worldwide issue that is affecting so many unfortunately, I just hope it shines a light on the situation. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment 🙏👍

Drinking to forget I understand that Just left Because Rich get richer the poor just left to eat dirt
THE Goverment do not care, and people turn their backs because it is not them. Thank you for what you did. We need more earth angels
Without earth angels, life will be even worse because who really cares? Who has the money to change our country and understand to get us off our knees ? GOD BLESS ALL THAT CARE 🙏
Thanks for the kind words 🙏 I really appreciate it. Please feel free to share the video with any like minded people it helps tremendously 🙏👍 thanks again
People unwittingly think it will never happen to me, wake up it can, right when you least expect it, we need to help each other because the government will not.
I've been homeless for a few months before and the worst part is boredom, if you have a home you can jump on a computer and play a game, have a few mates over for a bbq, or just turn on the telly or whatever. When you have no access to power or security, it's hard to while away the minutes and the easy option is just to get drunk or high.
It becomes a vicious circle, I remember talking to someone who had never taken drugs before becoming homeless, but had purely out of boredom.
It isnt the governments job to house and feed people.
@@potta061 It's their poor job of running the country that put people in this position.
Excellent content Joe, keep it up mate, your compassion does you credit.
Thanks for the kind words and support 🙏👍 it's appreciated massively
Very informative video Joe, heart warming to see your compassion and non-judgemental interviewing. Well done mate 👍🙏
Joe, well done for highlighting how bad things are getting. I have been a living carer for 30 years and once worked with more poor to middle-class people. what I have seen over the last few years, is a big change in caring. It's more the ungrateful rich classes. To add more icing on the cake, I have also found a great number of carers themselves are only two paychecks from living on the streets like myself. The NHS is falling apart as the jobs and homes are becoming fewer for the poorist native people in this country. I feel the Culture and civil wars is rising!

Why are people rewarded for having a second home that is left empty for 80% of the year? By the way I live and work here in Cornwall in hospitality industry and yes I love to reach minimum wage in my pay packet!
Like you've said there are many in the same situation with thousands of homes empty for 80-90% of the time, most are humble 2/3 bed houses that families would live in. Who knows the solution thanks for watching

You are such a kind man not to pass judgement on people who have become homeless - there is always a story to tell on each and everyone of them.
As that man said, most of us are all 3/4 paychecks away from becoming homeless ourselves. We like to think our future paths are predictable, but in our times it is not. I like it when you offer them coffee/tea, a sandwich, but not money or drink - they drink to lessen their despair, I'm sure. Keep up the good work - your sensitivity is amazing!
My friend lived in the homeless pods she moved out and is not living in her car because she said it was too dangerous and scary..
I have heard they can be troublesome places at times. Thanks for watching and the comment 👍
With over 800,000 coming to the country every year
This is the impact of mass uncapped immigration
Nothing to do with immigration, homelessness was here long before the immigrants, it's Dodgy Dave,s and Osborne fault with unnecessary austerity. They killed thousands of people.
There are plenty of brownfield sites that could be turned into housing to support an expanding population. IMO the problem is a lack of planning and investment, not immigration. These problems didn't start with immigration; they started with Thatcher forcing the councils to sell off their housing stock and actually banning them from replacing it.
@@doublehappiness9889 at last someone talking sense, thank you.
@@doublehappiness9889 investment from where?!!! the country is bankrupt and living on borrowed money yet we finance all these refugees and hotels and then they get prioritised for the social housing in front of our people who either have to wait 20+ years or rent in the private sector or buy. Problem is when they do they are now allowed to charge 90% of local market rent and are unaffordable to most in work so they would only house those on full benefits as they are as expensive as private renting. They need to bring back social rents and scrap "affordable" 90% rents that working people can't afford. The council where I am build new council homes or convert offices but the prices are too high. Absolutely a joke.
Hey Joe, as a former resident of Birmingham and partly revisiting it sometimes. The slum areas of the city are mostly areas like Balsall Heath, Saltley, Soho & Winson Green, Handsworth, Rotton Park, Erdington and Acocks Green. They are the biggest dives in Birmingham.

I'd be surprised if you ever lived or even visited Birmingham. No one calls Rotten park an area😅 You need to fact check your Google search. I happen to live in one of the real areas you mentioned and my house valuation has been and still is rocketing since I brought it. Shame you moved away from Birmingham should have stayed and cashed in💰, if you where ever here in the first place.
Dear Joe, you referred to second homes for tourists but don't you mean second homes for new residents or rather invaders. You do an excellent job trying to help people and also with your research to expose the grief of people who have nothing. It is commendable you try to feed one or two but you cannot feed everyone. It is a sad and sick world we live in.

We also have a second home problem in Shetland. It ia not so obvious here, but house prices are comparatively low here, so people sell a house an home in Britain, then buy a house here at an inflated price for the area and live off the remainder. Prices are then too high for first time buyer locals. Our rural areas are turning into old peoples villages😢

Great video! In terms of what will fix this, the best answers threaten the wealth and status of the people that we put in charge to answer this question. An answer is to use monitory policy to incentivise first time buyers and de-incentivise second homeowners and landlords and build a shit ton more of council housing. None of this serves the interests of people in power and it’s only a minority of them that care about other people as much as they care about themselves ie support policies to fix this

Ban Airbnb for a start. It's not just the UK where its making life impossible for locals - I've been here in Malta for over a decade, working, paying taxes, but am finally being forced to leave because rental prices have rocketed. All because landlords would rather rent for a few months of the year via Airbnb than long lets to residents. And, I'm not even on a 'low' income. I’m originally from Troon. Just up from Camborne . And it’s a small village and I’ve read awful things about it. I actually glad I left as a teenager
It’s a bad situation people being priced out of their local areas etc. But I can’t help to think that the homeless people sometimes choose that path in life, well some of them.
They would never be doctors or police officers, but does the drug and alcohol problems stem from homelessness or cause it? It’s not good, but what’s the answer, homeless village?
The 'housed' residents all brought up the same issues to be fair... It's clearly a combination of things
