I had legitimately forgotten what it had felt like to be excited for an album release.
Same. I'm counting the days till this drops
Totally! Can’t wait to see them live later this year
Really? Was it legitimate?
Julian has possibly the best feel of any guitarist I've ever heard. Incredible range of timbre, dynamics and wonderfully lyrical. Wow.
Ever heard of Jan Akkerman?
@@Butterstreet , no, who is he?
He is breathtakingly good. Strong contenders for that title would be peak Peter Green, and Derek trucks.
And ofcourse some of the classic blues gods.
Does Matteo Mancuso suck then? Lmao
It's crazy, when I thought I had been enough satisfied with Nels Cline, Marc Ribot, René Lussier, etc etc, this guy comes out...
No comments for the bassist? He's killing it too
I am sure he is
The thing about standing bass is you can't always hear them very well. My brother and I were just saying if you watch this video on a smartphone you can barely hear the standing bass.
Why would you listen to any music on a smartphone ?
Saw this trio on tour recently (2023). Can confirm, all three are BEASTS.
Dude’s been putting my car’s speakers through their paces this week. This song feels like it rose up out of the earth and they’re simply channeling it.
This intro has some Black Keys Lo/Hi vibes
2:53 sheesh 🤯😘
Dave King sure knows how to get a great tone from his drums. His kick has such a sweet sound that sings so nicely with the bass.
Funny- I think that bass drumb is the only thing that isn't right with this number.
Hello Cary, how are you doing today and how’s the weather condition where you are?
Drummer rocking the Steve Zissou look and has a killer fill at 3:31, I'm about that.
The Steve Zissou look is really the Jacques Cousteau look, of course.
That "Drummer" is rhythm legend Dave King of Happy Apple and The Bad Plus fame, good sir! And you'll be happy to know he has always rocked said festive visage!
They just keep coming. I’m still trying to recover from “Etude” which is just the most stunning performance.
There's no recovering from Etude. There's only the hope that he will do an entire set of etudes based on all of the intervals or whatever he chooses. It could happen. I mean... I was all settled in, after observing the careers of my personal giants for decades. Frisell, Metheney and others, and I was sure.... comfortable in the knowledge that no one was coming along anytime soon to move that stuff forward in an interesting way. Now comes this guy, with elements of Fred Frith and Derek Baiiley and so many other touchstones. It feels like uncovering the fountain where the pure music comes out. Just shocking. Then again, just look at all of the guys who did the impossible. Following J.S. Bach. They did it so well, Bach was nearly forgotten.
People like Julian are the best kind of guitar pioneers. They are pioneers who find and lead you to worthy places, filled with infinite possibilities for discovery. .
I consider it one of the most beautiful pieces for solo guitar, ever
@@MisterNiles Everyone I know has heard me rant about how incredible julian lage is for hours. It's still not enough to convey how lucky this world is to have him in it. There really isn't enough you can say about not only his mastery but how much real music and humanity is in his playing. Like of course he can't do alan holdsworth/frank gambale shredding but I have never heard anyone who keeps me on edge and melts my heart like he does. You almost wish he was an asshole to make it fair but he also seems to be a sincere and gentle soul. Julian Lage man...
Wow dave king is a beast
Who noticed the wedding ring? Congrats Julian & Margaret!
Oh hell no she stole my husband
@@nickmarble7226 real
That fill at 3:30 tho...DAVE KING!!!
Julian is the Picasso of Guitar Music.
Some of those lines starting at 2:54 really got me
at 4:10, Julian is like "Guys, this is too easy"
The whole thing is great but that drum fill right around 3:30 is bananas. So happy to see JL and Dave King playing together. I hope that Dave joins the upcoming tour.
Fuck I am so happy Dave met Julian, I hope they do way more together!
The thing that used to, and sometimes still does put me off about jazz guitar is that lame stiff clean tone that seemed to be an unspoken rule among jazz guitarrists. That's why I'm sooo glad Julian Lage uses that super classy overdrive to its full expressive extent. Thank you again, Julian, all the way from Goiania, Brazil! :)
Don't know about "lame stiff clean tone" since I mostly love good traditional jazz guitar tone, but I agree that Lage has awesome gritty tone. I love both!!
Julian is expanding the jazz vocabulary in so many ways, it's amazing
Heartily agree! Chunkier jazz tones please
This guy's control of dynamics is out of this world. Crazy subtlety and crazy melodies.
This is quite possibly the most vibey place on the planet... lamps, warm low light, natural wood everywhere.. YES. Also, Saint Rose = hometown of Santa Rosa?? ; )
Yes, that's totally it! The town just as a Spanish and English name.
@@JonSebastianF I figured! It's where I live now. =))
I love this drummer.
My favourite one in the album.
He has a slippery vibrato. The whole setting kinda dances, in and out; sort of takes you on a dance of swing and ballad. And his harmonies and melodies are sweetly juicy, full of music, search and meaning. To me to least.
Free Julian, he wants to rock
This song has made me laugh and cry like a baby.
Magnífico, this is one of the best trios I have ever listened to
I listen to this like 2/3 of my day, hope you come to mexico soon!
That was fun! Keep smiling.
This one is nice!
Its like a little beach board walk, jam band, jazz and soul.
I love how he just comes up with some chords that take me out of the slightly darker vibe of this song and if even for a couple of second there's a harmony that puts me at ease.
Really nice dynamics in this one.
Love this tune, must play it again. Julian definitely has his own harmonic slant and always looks so happy. So much freedom of expression in Julian's playing and what a dynamite trio.
Love watching him play. He’s clearly having fun with it.
The last time I was this excited for an album to be released was for Love Hurts in late 2018/early 2019 after having Modern Lore on repeat for ages. Julian, you’re the most exciting and imaginative guitarist I have ever heard!
this is such a good take. might top the original. i love that energy between this trio
Yeah! I love the part where he improvises starting on his low E string.
Love that you can hear the buzz on the amp. Little stuff like that most engineers try to get rid of, but it keeps you in the universe of the song.
Where does it come from ? You have to be a genius to make such a simple tone sound as fresh and interesting as he does.
This song is absolutely beautiful and i can not wait for the day i get to see Julian live. Your music has inspired me to better my own playing and given me so much inspiration and insight.
Jorge and Dave are so locked in! Love this so much. And Julian's compositions are always absolutely incredible. Can't wait for this record!
Julian always has the same joy on his face while playing live that The Beatles had.
Love the rawness - even includes the 60 cycle hum!! 🎸👏
Absolutely YES! WoW! Amazing!! Thank you for sharing your gift!
Hello Angel, how are you doing today and how’s the weather condition where you are?
And there was me thinking the take for the record was a peerless execution. This is truly stellar.
Julian, your play and your sound is always so pure and inspiring, but I could mute the video and still enjoying it! so cool, thanks
This just oozes cool - so much style and swagger. It feels so confident and dynamic, jazzy but with knowing winks at all kinds of genres. And that's one of the dirtiest guitar tones I've hear from Julian too. Plus, as ever, Dave is just killing it, with Jorge more than holding his own. Fantastic. You guys just. keep. getting. better.
Take a listen to 'Eleven pt. 2' by Virgil Donati, it's a beautiful track with several solos by Julian where he uses a fairly distorted tone, and doesn't really sound like anything else he's played over
Yes! Presley, Atlantic Limited, Splendor Riot and Saint Rose!
I got to meet Julian after a gig at Spivey Hall in Atlanta several years ago. Trust me when I tell you he is a down to earth, and nice human being as well as a stellar musician.
Love that you're going IN in all respects!
Jorge is so in the groove and killing it. What a dynamite performance by the trio and I love the setting.
Love to see Julian bringing the SWAG! They’re having too much fun with this one, can’t wait to see them in the fall
This sounds so good.
Come to Canada! :)
The arpeggio around 3:40 sounds just like the “thank you for the love you brought my way” part of Sunny’s melody. It’s different here. Amazing song!!!
Danny Gatton & Joe Pass, Please, Julian, he is sooooooooo Musical, ahh man he has studied but just really knows how to give that magic, because he is being technically musical, I could talk about his guitar skills all day, but we all recognize this man is special as a guitarist of 18 yrs myself now 28 having a long relationship with my guitar, I think this man is the best hands down, I dont have the rest of the words but Julian Lage everybody, Incredible and Mighty
GOAT
Awesome chemistry 🙏🏻👌🏻
You’re my guitar hero, Julian. Can’t wait to see you in December!
And this ladies and gentlemen right here is what we call chemistry.
Dave King!!!!
Compelling passion from a trio on fire.
That new wedding ring looks great with the new Collings. Congrats on both!
Still loving doing weddings❤️
woooooooo, merci merci merci
HOT!
Wow, fantastic.
magical
Julian. You always sound amazing, but I must say, I really like the sound of you playing the new Collings guitar. It’s sounds very warm and jet very clear. I also love it when you’re digging in a bit more.
Great track as well!
This performance made me shake my head in disbelief and wonder. Simply amazing. Julian, yes, but the trio as well.
And thats how you get the gig
無茶苦茶カッケェ演奏
🔥
Loved it! Thanks for being rad!
Perfect performance with so many nuances. Replayed it over and over. So much joy.
Best trio🇧🇷🎶🎵🎸🎸🤟🤟🤟🍷

Elegant. So good!!!
Such relaxed precision. Amazing sound and feel. Thank you for this music ...
thank you
Beautiful! Thank you.
Always so exciting to see what's gonna drop next. Top tier stuff (as always)!
This trio reminds me a bit of the Ginger Baker Trio. Even better.
It's so awesome to see how happy they are playing such amazing music, just loving live man
DAVE!
So much joy here I love it
Killer playing as usual

So good.
Some Marc Ribot vibes through out this one

Wow!!! Magnifique!
