“No emotion is a bad emotion, it’s just how we lean into those emotions” Damn, came here for fun and cool music man, now I’m walking away with this pearl of wisdom.
@@Breakaway-ic5gj Sorry for the late reply, but very well! One thing that is important to understand first and foremost is that all emotions, positive or negative, are signals for your needs being met or unmet. Also, keep in mind that they are not perfect signals. They can be very wrong sometimes, but not always! All the emotions we would call positive are signals of needs being met. If our basic needs are met for the day, we may feel content. If things are going great and your needs are tended to, we tend to feel happy. When our social comfort needs are met and/or exceeded, we feel cared for and/or loved. But those are obvious, as I'm pretty sure we all enjoy feeling those emotions. Now, the "negative" ones. I put "negative" in quotes here because while they are uncomfortable to feel, it is important to understand how they are useful! These emotions are for bringing our attention to our unment needs, and can actually help depending on the situation. Sadness warns you of your past mistakes, and with regret, we can reflect on just what we did wrong so that we can do better next time. Anger exists as a drive to get us to do something immediately, however drastic, dangerous, or downright violent it may be. Fear (my personal favorite) exists to warn you of future problems that may be coming your way, like an assignment you have to get done or a potential injury when doing something dangerous. I like to think of these emotions as teachers, coaches, and protectors respectively. These emotions can be very helpful, but again, they are imperfect. A lot of these things can be false alarms, and mental illness usually happens when a particular emotion gets out of whack and overreacts. Understanding this is actually a crucial first step used in many types of therapies! When the movie Inside Out came out, therapists compared a young child's emotions with the on-screen variant and used it as an example of how an emotion just tends to act. [Personal story this paragraph, skip if you dont care lol] I used to struggle with anxiety a lot, and it felt like my life was lost. I had no direction, and any method I tried to get rid of it failed. Then I came across a video about a game on this subject, and decided to play it for myself before continuing (Adventures with Anxiety, if you are curious). After that, I decided to forgive my anxiety and let it be a friend that's always helping me out, and OH BOY, I have never seen a more unexpected redemption arc in my life! TL;DR: In conclusion, emotions generally are not at all bad. The only bad thing about the "negative" ones is that they *feel* bad, but they are actually super useful. By listening to them rather than treating them with hostility, I'd bet you would find that you could accomplish a lot more than you might expect. This "essay" is rushed and flawed, so send me another reply if you have any questions. And remember, treat your emotions like friends, not enemies!
So basically, the ingame Tenebre Rossa Sangue is split into two posts, Calm and In Battle. That's why you'd have parts majorly dominated by piano keys, but then it would cut to a mix of electric guitar and organ notes. Compared to the previous Prime soul, Minos, you are forced to face quiet possibly the hardest gauntlet of enemies currently in the game before actually facing Sisyphus, with everytime you move into the next room would the calm music play, only for it to immediately switch to the battle theme.
One thing to point out: since it's keygen church/master boot record we're talking about, there are no guitars in this song. It's a sound chip cranked up to eleven
I want to point out that the difference between calm and battle of tenebre rossa sangue is very in line with keygen church. If you look at his work the escalation from classical to tech priest and back down again exists in pretty much everything he's made so the rapid change enhances the mood as opposed to ruining it like it may have with other artists, once again cementing this as the perfect Collab Praise the Code
Something I love about ULTRAKILL is how the speaking characters refer to V1 (The machine the player controls). Gabriel usually goes for 'machine' to be plain and to the point, but in threatening it he refers to it as 'inanimate' and 'a mere object' showing how he looks down on V1, this reflects how much of Heaven sees machines, as abominations, as affronts to God's creations, humans trying to play god. Minos, however calls it a 'creature of steel', seeing V1 as just another living being made to walk Earth and now Hell. And he even thanks it for freeing him, treating V1 as an opponent to respect but not hold back against. He says that 'but the crimes thy kind have made against humanity are not forgotten', showing that he doesn't have a personal grudge with V1 but does see machines as a threat and for good reason. Sisyphus calls it a 'child of man' and 'weapon', respecting the creation of machines as relation almost, and recognizing the power of V1 being a killing machine. Rather than hold a grudge, Sisyphus' fight is him fighting out of curiosity and his easygoing 'go with the flow' nature. It shows how happy Sisyphus is to live and to hold his own, to stand his ground and be proud.
ive also heard one perspective on the fight with sisyphus where he is testing himself and testing you, if he wins then hes gonna do what he was gonna do; destroy the angels and expect to die trying still with a smile on his face, Or you kill him and he sees you can definetely accomplish what he was going to do better than him
@@blehh_mae To borrow a quote from Owl Man that basically works for this but in a completely different way than Owl Man's usage, it doesn't matter. On one hand if Sisyphus dies he knows V1 will carry on and probably also win and on the other if he wins he will still get to try and fight Heaven, the outcome doesn't truly matter to him because he knows that in a way he's probably "won" even if he dies here. As long as V1 carries on then Sisyphus, much like Admiral Andersen in Ace Combat 5, he hasn't lost.

Just in case you didn't understand, the reason why "pandemonium" was so short is because it plays while you fight the boss called "flesh panopticon" which was a prison created by the heavens to contain sysiphus prime. Shortly after the fight begins, sysiphus simply busts out (hence the sounds of gore before his speech and also why he says "this prison... To hold... ME!?!?")
@@cy_blessings I honestly think that pandemonium being so good is a shame, because it's an amazing boss theme that doesn't get good until the fight will already be over.
@@Octobeannim pretty sure there are several mods that makes sisyphus not burst out, atleast until both hp bars are gone, one of them is ultrapain, but that one also makes the panopticon have much harder attacks
cut short too. Not Marco's fault, not too many people compiled the tracks together, but the video seems to be more of an auditory journey of the level then a true sharing of its tracks
Tenebre Rosso Sengue is the theme of the city of Dis, the giant wall that separates the upper and lower layers of hell. It actually isn’t made by Hakita, but by a guest artist, Keygen Church. Pandemonium is the theme of the Flesh Panopticon, the prison designed for Sisyphus. Unlike the simple Flesh Prison, it was designed to house his entire army. The reason its cut short is because he literally punches his way out midway through the fight. And Sisyphus’ theme, “War”, is a lot better once you understand his story. When God left and Heaven was in chaos, Sisyphus started building an army in the Greed layer (which is why you hear the Sands of Tide motif). When he invaded heaven, Gabriel told the army of heaven to focus all of their fire onto Sisyphus. When he was beheaded, his army crumbled, since their only motivation was the imposing presence of Sisyphus, which is why the other cells in the Panopticon are empty. Unlike Minos, who was a noble and generous king, Sisyphus wasn’t against lying, stealing or cheating others to get his way. He isn’t fighting you because he hates you or his kind; he is fighting you purely for shits and giggles. I absolutely adore Hakita’s rendition of Sisyphus. Not as a sad man, cursed for eternity to do a futile task. But a proud one, who, through his futile task, rebels against the heavens. His rebellion might not have succeeded, but to him, the simple fact that he DIDN’T just waste away, that he even tried to rebel, was in itself the ultimate act of defiance
There's also the idea of Sisyphus realizing that it's either him or you that is to break heaven's back due to the tonality of "Yes! That's it!" and "Keep 'em coming" sounding like motivating you. His final words emphasizes on regret that he's done for but the following part can be also interpreted that someone out there was more powerful than him and can (And had, remember heaven is in a shitshow after Gabe 2) bring down Heaven.
he didn't do It just for fun and giggles, he was open to doing dirt tricks un his fight against oppression. Him finding joy in struggle isn't the same thing as not caring.
Ultrakill's take on Sisyphus, this bloody-handed warlord of the Greed layer who knew his rebellion against the angels was pointless but still went on out of spite, is definitely an interesting one. Though it'll never not be funny that the man is a walking apocalypse and his first act after freeing himself from Hell is fighting the toaster that walked into the wrong part of town.
Some background lore Sisyphus punishment in hell WAS the boulder, along with having molten gold scorch out his eyes. He bided his time in the layer of Greed, waiting for any moment to be free of the demons and angels who tortured him and his fellow man. When the time finally came, Sisyphus swiftly assembled a grand army of those who would help him rebel against heaven. However, the battle ended quickly when Sisyphus was beheaded by Gabriel, the Righteous Hand of the Father. Due to the immense power of Sisyphus’ soul, he needed to be imprisoned so that he could not reform into a Prime Soul, a being of pure willpower, capable of razing heaven to the ground. Sisyphus was imprisoned within the Flesh Panopticon, which was far more heavily guarded than Minos’ Flesh Prison. When you fight the Flesh Panopticon, Sisyphus *punches his way out of it* and kills it himself. Then he monologues, and your fight begins. Sisyphus is a man purely fueled by his spite and his willpower, the indomitable human spirit. He gives you the hardest single enemy fight of the game, and dies regretting nothing.
Lore-wise the soul had begun to form already, so he was already partially alive as a prime soul. That's why he wakes up mid panopticon fight and breaks out himself
In the Ultrakill lore, Sisyphus waged war against the armies of heaven, creating a legion of Insurgents to join his cause. Once the council was established, he was captured and essentially kept in a high security prison. So yes, Tenebre Rosse Sangue is technically the theme of a prison break. Pandemonium is basically a fake fight, like 30 seconds in Sisyphus breaks out due to the weakening of the seals that kept him inside (that we break). Similar to Minos, Sisyphus’ theme contains a Leitmotif (2 i believe but one isn’t essentially linked to his character) which links back to an earlier stage in the game, where you actually fight an essentially mummified and controlled insurgent of his. Real interesting stuff. Once again, love the content!
So two things. The insurrectionists still aren't technically controlled or mummified, they are just his fellow husks that were cleaved across the shoulders as punishment for their rebellion against heaven. Secondly, they DID kill Sisyphus, they only captured his soul, they actually entombed his corpse which you can see in 4-4 where you get the saw blades. His soul itself is the thing you fight, his very essence and willpower.
Wanna add a third thing to the above, we don't appear to weaken any seals. As far as I can tell from the fight we merely wake Sisyphus up, and upon hearing the chaos of the Panopticon battle he decides to break himself free. This is assumedly something he could do all along and merely chose not to until V1s appearance.
@@Pyracyntrix You could see Sisyphus's corpse in the room where you get the saw blade launcher alternate for the nail gun. It's behind a secret so you would need to do a replay of the level to find it. Its basically like Minos' gigantic corpse but bound and without the head because he was beheaded.
@@qwiikry699 fun fact, you can actually get in without the whiplash as the rail cannon can shoot through the crack in the doorway without it being opened fully.
The piano bit at the beginning is a badly distorted version of 'God Save The King', which gave me all kinds of chills when I realised. Very sneaky, Ultrakill.
@@justwantaname. Dang, they sound really really similar! I wonder if they pinched some for GSTK actually, it's almost eerie how much they sound like each other.
@@Tolly7249 I don't know how accurate this is, plus my mind is a little foggy. But during the Victorian Era (I think) National Anthems were slowly starting to take ahold, and in Western Europe many nations would begin to adapt a small piece of music made by a German Musician, and would eventually spread to the UK. (Now again, my mind is foggy and I think I heard of this 2 years ago, so I could be completely wrong)
8:48 I know it's really hard to hear over the music but as Sisyphus is breaking out of the panopticon he's saying: "This prison, to hold, ME??" The fact that it also looks like he just casually broke it too really adds to the scene imo

You're absolutely good! I was stoked when I saw this vid in my feed and I loved your reaction, as always! You're my favorite "reacts to" person to watch. Keep doing what you are doing!
Sisyphus was the king of the greed layer, but unlike Minos, the king of the lust layer, who was a kind ruler to all his people, Sisyphus was mounting an insurrection against Heaven. He wasn't going down without a fight, and once Heaven caught wind of it, they sent Gabriel to behead him (hence why his head is just a ball of light, which could also be interpreted as him being a beacon of hope for his people), and sealed away his soul in the Flesh Panopticon. I love how this reflects in both their fights, because while Minos sees you as an obstacle and tries to deliver judgment, and apologizes to his people once he is killed that he could not protect them, and also screams while dying, Sisyphus sees you as a warm up, an appetizer, before he destroys the realm of Heaven, filled with unbridled rage, and is completely unphased when you kill him. He's not angry at you or himself, he simply says his life of futile struggle has come to an end, and he has no regrets, and while beams of light sprout out of him while he's dying, he laughs. He had fun. Sisyphus in Ultrakill is kind of the opposite from the mythological figure, since in the Greek mythos, Sisyphus is frustrated and exasperated at his futile struggle to push the boulder up the mountain, but in Ultrakill, the knowledge that his acts are ultimately meaningless drives Sisyphus. He relishes in the fact that his insurrection is pointless. He knows this, and it won't stop him from trying to destroy Heaven, if anything, it only makes him more determined to do it.

I love how he figured out that sisyphus isn't really interested in the whole "RAGGGHHHH YOU KILLED HEAVEN" spiel, just from the tone of the music alone
Sisyphus only describes his wish to conquer heaven and the curiosity to test V1's skills. You never really understand his philosophy until the end, or when listening to the boss theme
Sisyphus being voiced by Lenval Brown is still so insane to me, his work in Disco Elysium is what kept me around long enough to fully appreciate that game and I'm so glad I get to hear him again in a game I already love
@@JCStickRavenoriginal had some part of it voiced, like the intro and crucial parts of the story. And cut version had fully voiced thoughts nd enviromental info
"There's almost like a bored aspect to it" Yeah, basically spot on. Sisyphus was stuck in the Flesh Panopticon for who knows how long and during all of that time he could've broken out himself, he didn't simply because he really didn't have a reason to. Then, when V1 comes along, he realizes that this is the thing that killed Minos's soul and triumphed through most of Hell, he finally has an opponent with enough strength to potentially match his own, he finally has something to lose and he can finally feel the thrill of battle again, during the fight he even eggs V1 on, saying "Yes, that's it!" when his health is halfway depleted.
I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO REACT TO THIS! here is more context: -the first part is when you just enter the level, alone, no enemies, just you walking -the second one is when enemies start spawning -the third part starts when you fight the prison holding sysiphus (i hope i writed the name right) -and the last one is on the fight itself
The best thing about Marco is that he just shows what he feels like a 6 year old kid seeing santa giving him a present, at first he looks confused, then smiles with joy and gets excited over the present Marco instead tries to understand the feeling, then smiles with joy of the rythm and gets excited as the drop comes, as if he was almost finished unpacking his present.
One of my favorite parts of the Sisyphys Prime boss battle is his overall demeanor, specifically his entrance, and then during the fight "This prison, to hold... ME?" Sisyphus is a cocky man. He is a king and waged war against heaven, but only now, he is stronger. "Nice Try!" Is one if his voicelines, and he says it when doing a 'Come at me!' motion, once again showing off his cockyness. "Keep 'em coming!" He will say this once you've died, respawned and enter the arena again. This suggests that he is FINE with killing you over and over and over again, even if it means that he will die eventually due to your infinite lives. He knows there is a player, and he's enjoying it. "Yes! That's it!" Sisyphys will say this once he reaches half HP, which makes him feel like all he wants is a good fight. He doesn't really care anymore at this point. He just wants to fight you.
The Primes (or possibly just Sisyphus, as Minos' "USELESS!" doesn't quote confirm he is acknowledging respawns) are maybe the only enemies to canonically acknowledge them. Gabriel's "IS THIS WHAT I LOST TO?!" could easily be explained as a normal line playing coincidentally, considering the mood of the fight, and I don't know if Druid Knight's "wait why are we in the past" is canonical.
@@linkmariokirby7373 The fact that Minos only says "Useless" (I imagine as in "Your struggle is useless, I'll keep killing you no matter how much you try") after a respawn should be enough confirmation IMO.
@@WorldKeepsSpinnin his "WEAK" voice line can also be interpreted as him talking to himself like: "GET STRONGER MINOS, YOU CANNOT FAIL YOUR CHILDREN AGAIN."
there is a shepherds tone that is played in the room before 'Tenebre Rosso Sangue' starts, given a shepherds tone (in a basic sense) is a tone that sounds like is going up but never is, this could heavily relate to the story of Sisyphus as well.
Marco's face when the beat drops is just amazing Edit: Forgot to add something more to my comment. P-2 is the most hardest level in the game so far and sisyphus in Ultrakill is seen as stronger than Minos so Gabriel (funy organ guy) Beheaded sisyphus because he wanted to have an all out WAR on heaven. When the player starts the level, the level tries to scare us with the blood rain. After the level actually starts (Tenebre rosso sangue) That's where a boss gauntlet occurs, the game will force the player to fight thru the game's minibosses. P-2 was made as a security measure so nobody tries to free sisyphus from escaping. After fighting the gauntlet, V1 (player) opens the vault in which sisyphus is being imprisioned. I think you get the rest.
The dichotomy to Minos and Sisyphus is fantastic. ORDER is imprisoned in CHAOS. Minos emerges, vowing revenge on Heaven, specifically Gabriel, for not allowing the souls in the Lust Layer to live peacefully, for tearing down his new kingdom. His theme is tragic, and emotional, with bits and pieces from "Requiem", the theme song from a level of Lust as well as "Guts" and "Glory" from Gluttony. Once he dies, he apologizes to his subjects. WAR is enchained in PANDEMONIUM. Sisyphus is freed, and again, wants revenge on the ENTIRETY of Heaven for stifling his rebellion and mutilating his followers. But not before testing your mettle. His theme is aggression, unbridled, with bits and pieces from "Dune Eternal", "Sands of Tide" *and* "Dancer in the Darkness", the entirety of the Greed layer. Once he dies, he laughs. I wish you could fight both at once.
There's more to come, who knows. You may indeed get that wish. In fact I'll be somewhat surprised if it doesn't happen, possibly with the boss of the next act.
God I have been a huge fan of Master Boot Records/Keygen Church (The artist that made Tenebre Rosso Sangue) for years now and it feels so amazing to see them get appreciated by so many people after loving their work for so long. It's just this magical music that I've never heard anywhere else, they mix that pretty classical stuff with the raw electronic energy that's so damn glorious. I'm not nearly skilled enough in music dissection to give a good review on their music, but it's just so so GOOD. Agh, thank you so much for enjoying this music I just love it so much
I think you would love to hear all this music in the context of the game. More than even any individual track, how the ost puts together this psychedelic hell is really wonderful to me
I really love to see Ultrakill content from you but the video used for your reaction uses the WIP version of Pandemonium (Its also cut very short here) and Tenebre Rosso feels mixed in a weird way that just doesn’t hit the same as the in-game version. I suggest going to Hakita’s channel or looking for the songs on their own. Love your content as always, Marco!
@@MarcoMeatball i feel so bad that you made an enitre video only for half of the comments to say that you listened to the early ver of pandemonium that only has the midi instruments and no guitar. not only that but pandemonium got cut short because sisyphus broke out mid song (which technically is true since when you fight flesh panopticon that does happen). theres still a full song you can react to.
@@MarcoMeatball bad thing about hakita's official mixes tho, is that they never include the cool monologues/sound effects that make the fights that much better
I personally believe these songs are currently Hakita's best songs so far, Tenebre Rosso Sangue is just perfect musically but also it absolutely reflects how grandiose and difficult this level is, and War is yet again a fantastic song to add for the prime souls. Also, Tenebre Rosso Sangue changes from musical to metal based on if you're in combat or not.
@@greekieshion4501 I should have worded it differently, I knew he didn't make it. I meant they're the best songs added to ultrakill, not that Hakita made all the music.
So glad to see you give this a shot, I love how quickly you caught onto Sisyphus' character. In the game he's a man who fights, yes, but not for any reason other than the futile struggle to inconvenience the heavens. A man who knew... He was doomed the moment he raised his blade.
I was really hoping you will listen to whole P-2 ost and glad that happened! I don't know will you read this or this was written by someone else, but Tenable Rosso Sangue is ost for city Dis for Heresy layer where Sisyphis prison located. So piano playes when you passing it and active part start playing when fights occur. And fighting parts of this level before Sisyphis maybe even harder than Sisyphis himself, so I glad that Keygen Church did go hard on this track) Pandemonium must be a little longer, but still, there's a lot of trushing sounds becouse Sisyphis breaking his prison by himself, I didn't hear this in video, but while all this disturbing sound happening, he says "This prison... To hold... Me?!!" Also, if you interested in lore of characters like Minos/Sisyphis/Gabriel or some other, in ultrakill wiki there for all characters/enemies must be "Terminal" section Terminal gives gameplay advise and after beating enemy, adds lore, so on wiki there will be some lore on characters. Sorry for bad English and thank you for you video!
I don't know why, but you looking flabbergasted at 3:18 cracks me up every time because I know the music is about to go bonkers but it really comes out of nowhere for a first time listener.
Yes, Keygen Church (same guy as "Master Boot Record") really feels like somebody melt metall and classic in one pot (like Gopher) and it s really cool.
The facial expression shifts from Sanguine Rosso going full dub metal out of nowhere then building from a completely confused blank slate to intrigue and joy is the best part.
In Ultrakill, Sisyphus is a "prime soul", meaning the soul of a being who has so much willpower and who was so popular in life among other people that Heaven feared they might have the will to stand up to them. This has implications for both Minos and Sisyphus. Minos found his peace guiding other people out of misery and was desperate to protect/avenge his people, in other words, he held true to his values no matter what. The same goes for Sisyphus. He recognizes that his struggles may be futile, but he realizes that these struggles are all there is to life, so he might as well go full force. He enjoyed confrontation in general, challenging the powers that be, etc. Kinda like Yujiro Hanma from Baki, but less insane. He embodied "Greed". Greed for power, greed for the pleasures of life, pleasures which include battle experiences. It is greed, but his acceptance of it led to a sort of enlightenment. Unfortunately, this enlightenment turned on him, as his men became dependent on his intoxicating personality and when he fell, the others did not have enough individual willpower to keep fighting.
14:07 something else of note, this here is a leitmotif, calling the player back to an earlier track, “sands of tide”. In the level where that song plays, we see sisyphus’ kingdom in ruins, much like that of minos. his people are subjected to more torture than hell itself because they once followed sisyphus in an insurrection attempt.
This was such a pleasure to see you react to P-2 and Sisyphus here. Tenebre Rosso Sangue is still my favorite of this set of tracks. There’s just something about it that makes me like it so much. Probably the organ.
6:07 this assessment is actually really accurate of sisyphus’ character in ultrakill, even if the level’s first track isn’t directly connected to him. he spent his whole life rebelling despite knowing he could never topple the heavens… so gangsta
Watching this man perfectly explain the lore of ULTRAKILL just by listening to the music of the game is awesome. Kudos both to the artists for crafting the music in such a way that that can be done and to you for being able to decipher it on first listen like that.
I'd like to add, the 3/4 part is a motif of a song from the Greed layer. Fun part is how minos and sisyphus' themes both have a similar build up style, as well as the call back to their respective layers.
13:40 I love the feeling of damnation here in the song. It's a rare feeling for songs to give off, but I love when they do. I feel it is a bit limited here since it is a battle theme, the only other songs that I know of that give this sense of damnation are The New Order from Wolfenstein and In The House - In A Heartbeat from 28 Days Later. I just love the feeling of it.
Quite ironic since Sands of Tide is one of my least favorite ULTRAKILL songs. But any sound when mixed right and in the right situation can sound good. Like Complete And Utter Destruction of The Senses sounds awful on it's own, but in game it's the perfect for when it plays.
A bit of a teaser: this track is made by a guy using the name "KEYGEN CHURCH" for this specific project, who also made several albums under the name "MASTER BOOT RECORD". His stuff is always a mix of nerdy, retro-tech vibe with some dark, oppressive, esoteric themes - and all of it is brilliant and a sure canditate for a "must listen" playlist!
The part about Sisyphus' back not being against the wall and not being desperate is basically entirely accurate. He doesn't care if he dies or not. He knows he's already lost, and can't do anything. He knows his struggle is impossible; even now, if he kills you, he still won't get far enough to make a change. But he's not going down without a fight.
10:54 This idea works considering that each time you die to Sisyphus he gives the voice line "Keep em Coming" So while the machine V1 struggles desperately to get some more blood, Sisyphus throws everything but the kitchen sink at v1 just so he doesn't stay bored. Its almost like sisyhus is the audience
13:45 that part is another part of a song called "Sands of Tide" or "Dune Eternal". Both soundtracks from Ultrakill coming earlier in the games second act
Always love to see some ultrakill content! And for what it's worth, the video you watched did a pretty poor job of splicing the songs together. I'm sure you get the picture but you should look them up individually (Tenebre Rosso Sangue has a wonderful opening that was skipped, for example, and Pandemonium has a big shift later in the song that was ignored.)
Gosh, every time you upload ULTRAKILL stuff it makes me *so* excited 😭😭 I love all of your content, but every time you do ULTRAKILL stuff it just activates everything in my brain that makes me happy ❤

The weird beeping sound and rumbling sound is actually gates opening, so basically heaven is so fucking scared that they put some maximum security prison
One thing I notice in pandemonium is that it sounds almost like an alarm going off, which makes sense since you are basically invading the prison holding sisyphus
Glad to see you react to this! Sisyphus isn't really discussed as in-depth as Minos is in the game, being relegated to a hidden room in the last layer of Greed (outside of his Prime Sanctum). He rebelled against the armies of heaven, rallying quite the military force during the time after God had vanished, and before the Council had formed. When the angels returned, Sisyphus fought back in a war that, and I quote, "shook the very foundations of hell itself". However, the angels noticed that Sisyphus' entire army relied on him, so Gabriel went in and beheaded the man. The Flesh Panopticon was constructed to hold Sisyphus' prime soul, which had already partially formed at the time of his imprisonment. This allowed him to break out when the player shows up to try killing the Panopticon, which in turn woke Sisyphus' prime soul from his "eternal sleep" of sorts. Sisyphus' reason for fighting you is quite different from Minos' reasons. He notes that you have killed Minos (as that's a requirement for entering the second prime sanctum), and challenges you to a brawl before he wreaks havoc on heaven as an act of revenge. Ultimately, his struggle was in vain, as was his war against the angels. However, he fought valiantly, and with a smile on his face the whole time, since he enjoyed the thrill of fighting immensely. One would have had to imagine Sisyphus happy.
I absolutely love Tenebre as it's cut here, it's so damn aggressive and forceful. The transition from the softer, more toned down piano section to that hard as fuck distorted electric guitar (I'm pretty sure that's what that is) and heavy drum beat sounding like a splayed heartbeat is godly.
This is one of those tracks where you can’t, in your right mind, just silently sit and listen. The sheer intensity and emotion of the song makes you want to jump and throw your arms around. The neat part is that you pretty much have to channel 100% of that energy into brutally slaughtering what is essentially an army of tough sons a’ bitches guarding one single imprisoned soul who are more than capable of destroying you if you stop for even a single moment. This song allows you to operate at the energy level required for P-2, Wait of the World.
The problem with the entire Ultrakill soundtrack is that it's impossible to listen to and enjoy it while also sitting still. Whenever one of those tracks comes on while I'm trying to do work, well, you can think of it as a reminder to get up and stretch that is impossible to ignore.
The coolest part is, the score is composed specifically so that there are calm and chaotic versions of every part of the melody. In game, the music transitions seamlessly from the calm to the chaos every time you enter combat, and then peters out to the calm again when it’s over. They don’t play in sequence like the soundtrack version, they’re layered ON TOP of each other.
Love your reactions! Especially when Tenebre Rosso Sangue transitioned from the calm loop to the combat loop, I loved the absolute shock visible on your face, which was absolutely my reaction when the beat drops in the video Master Boot Record put out for the whole track, hearing all the emotion jam packed into the song but not understanding what was in it, and your explanation hit the nail on the head as to what the emotion I felt was. 13:40 by the way, is what I believe, a leitmotif of Sands of Tide from the level 4-2. Thank you for releasing these videos as they have let me understand more what goes on into music!
I love V-1's motif and how it gets used in the boss fights shows the unstoppable nature of our blood fueled robo; he is unstoppable, and it's not just boss music that's why he is in it (it's the electrified pace of snare drums that sounds like its glitching)
Around 13:53 there is a leiteimof of the theme that plays in the level 4-2 in the Greed layer, the very same layer where he caused his insurrection against Heaven, maybe this is him remembering his bitter defeat and showcasing determination to try again?
Setting aside this absolute banger of a video, the fact that hakita can make a game and solely with the music can express the emotions of the beings you are fighting or the emotions of the area, absolutely insane. Love watching you as well! Keep up the great videos
11:51 I adore this part. Not only does it sound sick as hell, but it represents the punishment Sisyphus was given by the Gods. The rising and lowering of the notes symbolizing Sisyphus rolling that rock up that hill only for it to fall down and having him start again, over and over and over. One must truly imagine Sisyphus happy.
The emotional roller-coaster Marco went through at 3:18 of just enjoying the song, knowing there was about to be a shift in the music, the big headbang, and then just the freeze with a look of just pure confusion is way too funny too me

@@dokomni please do
@@Breakaway-ic5gj Sorry for the late reply, but very well!
And remember, treat your emotions like friends, not enemies!
wish i learnt that after playing P-2
@@Kris-ce1po before would be better
It's a sound chip cranked up to eleven
also this video uses the old version of PANDEMONIUM
I believe there’s also some slight difference in the album version and in game version (some removed instruments I think)
@@maxmelee1145 that's very disappointing from this video, so Marco didn't get the full Pandemonium experience :(
I want to point out that the difference between calm and battle of tenebre rossa sangue is very in line with keygen church. @MarcoMeatball please do it! ULTRAKILL is an amazing game and you should play it!

To hold... ME!?!?")
The version used in this video is the WIP version and is not even played to full. There really is no excuse for this, it is meant to be a music video.
Yea that really sucks, idk why the uploader had to shorten that part and even use the wip version. A shame because Pandemonium is such a great piece.

@@tri-sapien6487 i die to it today on a p rank run for the first time ever big sad
Both Chaos and Pandemonium are painfully mid.
One must see Sisyphus happy.
@@wutsthem.o *One must imagine Sisyphus happy
There's also the idea of Sisyphus realizing that it's either him or you that is to break heaven's back due to the tonality of "Yes! That's it!" and "Keep 'em coming" sounding like motivating you. Some background lore
Sisyphus punishment in hell WAS the boulder, along with having molten gold scorch out his eyes.

@@daffoplays6616 didn't know there was a giant corpse in 4-4
Wanna add a third thing to the above, we don't appear to weaken any seals.

He may have also laughed due to the reason that he knows if V1 beats him then sure as hell it'll beat heaven so he wins either way

He will say this once you've died, respawned and enter the arena again. This suggests that he is FINE with killing you over and over and over again, even if it means that he will die eventually due to your infinite lives. He knows there is a player, and he's enjoying it.
"Yes! That's it!"
Sisyphys will say this once he reaches half HP, which makes him feel like all he wants is a good fight.
@@kveller555 I like to think that Minos is saying that to himself like:
"Damn it, I was still not strong enough to destroy this machine."
@@cheese3996 Nah, his "WEAKKKK" voice line when you get him low kinda debunks that. Hes just straight shit talking you.
@@WorldKeepsSpinnin his "WEAK" voice line can also be interpreted as him talking to himself like:
"GET STRONGER MINOS, YOU CANNOT FAIL YOUR CHILDREN AGAIN."
there is a shepherds tone that is played in the room before 'Tenebre Rosso Sangue' starts, given a shepherds tone (in a basic sense) is a tone that sounds like is going up but never is, this could heavily relate to the story of Sisyphus as well.
omg i never noticed that
i thought it was only there since it's known to cause panic and anxiety, but this actually makes alot of sense
It's funny, but the tone never caused any feelings of panic or anxiety to me.
Marco's face when the beat drops is just amazing
Edit: Forgot to add something more to my comment.
After the level actually starts (Tenebre rosso sangue)
That's where a boss gauntlet occurs, the game will force the player to fight thru the game's minibosses. P-2 was made as a security measure so nobody tries to free sisyphus from escaping.
After fighting the gauntlet, V1 (player) opens the vault in which sisyphus is being imprisioned. I think you get the rest.
Priceless XD
Erm... achkshually, Gabriel beheaded Sisyphus to break Sisyphus' army morale because Sisyphus' army relies on the king's charisma🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
eh cerbs arent really bosses bosses, theyre enemies who were introduced as bosses, not even minibosses really
i cant imagine minos with the mind of sisyphus, minos tried to make peace while sisyphus wanted war
@@shoeofobama6091they were introduced as bosses actually.
Prelude climax.
You can if you turned on cheats and placed minos/sisyphus as the fight starts
Requiem is the theme of Lust.
@@unoriginal2552 Right, I got mixed up, fixed it.

Agh, thank you so much for enjoying this music I just love it so much
Same bro. I still hang around the mbr chat from time to time.

@@MarcoMeatball yeah you’re right lol
@@MarcoMeatball i feel so bad that you made an enitre video only for half of the comments to say that you listened to the early ver of pandemonium that only has the midi instruments and no guitar. not only that but pandemonium got cut short because sisyphus broke out mid song (which technically is true since when you fight flesh panopticon that does happen). theres still a full song you can react to.
@@cornslop6513 half those comments boost me to the algo. so, it's okay. i can just do a full discussion of the panda
@@MarcoMeatball bad thing about hakita's official mixes tho, is that they never include the cool monologues/sound effects that make the fights that much better
Im absolutely loving these reactions marco! I'm really happy that you're checking out ultrakill, this game has alot of story to it.
Glad you enjoy it!
Just as a correction, Hakita/Heaven Pierce Her didn't compose Tenebre Rosso Sangue, Keygen Church did.
@@greekieshion4501 I should have worded it differently, I knew he didn't make it. I meant they're the best songs added to ultrakill, not that Hakita made all the music.
He needs to review keygen church
So glad to see you give this a shot, I love how quickly you caught onto Sisyphus' character. In the game he's a man who fights, yes, but not for any reason other than the futile struggle to inconvenience the heavens. A man who knew...
He was doomed the moment he raised his blade.
10:40 perfect analysis! While fighting him ingame, it becomes clear that he just loves the thrill of the fight
9:35 "Pandemonium sounds exactly what it sounds like"
10/10 video my guy 😅
Thank you 🙏
I was really hoping you will listen to whole P-2 ost and glad that happened!
I don't know will you read this or this was written by someone else, but
Tenable Rosso Sangue is ost for city Dis for Heresy layer where Sisyphis prison located. So piano playes when you passing it and active part start playing when fights occur. And fighting parts of this level before Sisyphis maybe even harder than Sisyphis himself, so I glad that Keygen Church did go hard on this track)
Pandemonium must be a little longer, but still, there's a lot of trushing sounds becouse Sisyphis breaking his prison by himself, I didn't hear this in video, but while all this disturbing sound happening, he says "This prison... To hold... Me?!!"
Also, if you interested in lore of characters like Minos/Sisyphis/Gabriel or some other, in ultrakill wiki there for all characters/enemies must be "Terminal" section
Terminal gives gameplay advise and after beating enemy, adds lore, so on wiki there will be some lore on characters.
Sorry for bad English and thank you for you video!
I don't know why, but you looking flabbergasted at 3:18 cracks me up every time because I know the music is about to go bonkers but it really comes out of nowhere for a first time listener.
Yes, Keygen Church (same guy as "Master Boot Record") really feels like somebody melt metall and classic in one pot (like Gopher) and it s really cool.
is noone gonna acknowledge Marco briefly implying that the plural of Sisyphus is "Sisyphi" at 2:33?

3:42 toddlers in any public area being forced to stare at the person closest to them after their iPad dies
It's the tech priest aspect of it
6:07 this assessment is actually really accurate of sisyphus’ character in ultrakill, even if the level’s first track isn’t directly connected to him. he spent his whole life rebelling despite knowing he could never topple the heavens… so gangsta
6:17 bro just predicts the whole level.
The Ultrakill OST is like avoiding getting pushed up against the wall by destroying the wall
just seeing the first initial reaction at 3:14, perfect gold.
Watching this man perfectly explain the lore of ULTRAKILL just by listening to the music of the game is awesome. Kudos both to the artists for crafting the music in such a way that that can be done and to you for being able to decipher it on first listen like that.
the way he mouthed the words "what the fuck" at 3:58 is probably all you need to know about the song
What I find interesting about that is that this section has a leitmotif from Sands of Tide(4-2’s theme)
Quite ironic since Sands of Tide is one of my least favorite ULTRAKILL songs. But any sound when mixed right and in the right situation can sound good. Like Complete And Utter Destruction of The Senses sounds awful on it's own, but in game it's the perfect for when it plays.
I love the voice actor for Sisyphus. He also does the narration for Disco Elysium. Such an amazing voice.
5:27 honestly just flat out describes P-2 as a whole
A bit of a teaser: this track is made by a guy using the name "KEYGEN CHURCH" for this specific project, who also made several albums under the name "MASTER BOOT RECORD". His stuff is always a mix of nerdy, retro-tech vibe with some dark, oppressive, esoteric themes - and all of it is brilliant and a sure canditate for a "must listen" playlist!
2:40 you know what this sounds like to me? it sounds like the languish, the pain, the suffering, the torment of trying to P-rank this level
5:13 Started tweaking 😭
3:00 He don't know what's about to hit him

13:45 that part is another part of a song called "Sands of Tide" or "Dune Eternal". Both soundtracks from Ultrakill coming earlier in the games second act
Always love to see some ultrakill content!
And for what it's worth, the video you watched did a pretty poor job of splicing the songs together. I'm sure you get the picture but you should look them up individually (Tenebre Rosso Sangue has a wonderful opening that was skipped, for example, and Pandemonium has a big shift later in the song that was ignored.)
Thanks for listening to this for me these are my favorite songs in the game and this is also my favorite version of Sisyphus.

Anyways as always i send much love and hope you'll keep doing some of these
Wow, thanks!
It's not actually a guitar it's just a synth chip being played at max everything, it's the signature of Master Boot Record, completely amazing

6:14 The 84 year old man when a toddler steps foot on his lawn
Thiese tracks are as insane as ingame challange of even reaching the last fight. That level is one of the hardest challanges i've seen in video games.
There's also a longer variant of Tenebre Rosso Sangue which has UltraChruch (a bonus track) before the Tenebre movement itself
I love V-1's motif and how it gets used in the boss fights shows the unstoppable nature of our blood fueled robo; he is unstoppable, and it's not just boss music that's why he is in it (it's the electrified pace of snare drums that sounds like its glitching)
that's not a motif that's just called breakcore lol

Around 13:53 there is a leiteimof of the theme that plays in the level 4-2 in the Greed layer, the very same layer where he caused his insurrection against Heaven, maybe this is him remembering his bitter defeat and showcasing determination to try again?
I love how in Tenebre Rosso Sangue he goes from wow this song is pretty chill" to "W H A T I S H A P P E N I N G" then back to "SONG GOOD YES"
Setting aside this absolute banger of a video, the fact that hakita can make a game and solely with the music can express the emotions of the beings you are fighting or the emotions of the area, absolutely insane. Love watching you as well! Keep up the great videos
Much appreciated!
