    You are amazing and I only use your videos to make instant pot recipes so far. I have made the pot roast, chilli, enchiladas, and making some ribs now. Going to try the Jerk Chicken this week. You need to come out with a cookbook. The videos are easy to follow as well.

    I made this tonight (marinated chicken yesterday afternoon - late this afternoon). I didn’t add ANY of the mentioned hot peppers and I STILL sweat from the spices ! Guess I’m a wimp ! I loved it. I made prepackaged fried rice and also cooked up a package of coleslaw (all of these - chicken, rice and coleslaw in the 8 quart Ninja Foodie) like they do at the asian restaurants that cook in front of you. I had a nice dinner ! Wish my husband liked it. He’s a straight meat and potatoes kind of guy. This is too exotic for him. That’s ok. I have a food saver and I can pack ‘em up and heat them up whenever I want ! Thanks for the great recipe !

    Jeff, I know you spent a fair bit of time talking about the different peppers and the intensity of their heat but jerk chicken is all about the Scotch Bonnet/Habanero pepper, not because of the heat but the flavour, it's very unique. Remove all seeds and membranes of the pepper if needed and even use only half of a pepper, but use the real ones... and as per the chinese ingredients, I might actually try them the next time. Thanks

    This looks absolutely divine. I think I used a habanero pepper in one of your previous recipes but I’m gonna go with your recommendation of the jalapeño. This will be on the menu this week at my home. Thank you so much

  • @risasklutteredkitchen1293
    @risasklutteredkitchen1293 5 років тому +1

    Only way u can get scotch bonnet is to grow them. Habanero is very close. They freeze really well too.
    Btw, the name comes from the way they jerk the chicken on the grill, I think.
    Also, if you cut the slices peppers with the skin side up there will be less chance of getting all the heat on your fingers. I do it all the time and I'm a serious ChileHead. I'd use the habanero!

    • @minuteman4199
      @minuteman4199 5 років тому

      I find this amusing because here in Canada Scotch Bonnets are readily available at most grocery stores, but I have never seen a Habanero.

    That looks awesome. I had literally just washed my hands from chopping jalapeno & onion when I started watching you. I can make a meal out of just pico de gallo (jalapeno, onion, & tomato). This time I'm adding avocado, hard egg, & tuna fish to macaroni for a salad. Can't wait to try your jerk chicken. Oh, btw, serrano peppers would work well too.

    The thing about the habanero/scotch bonnet is that it has a fruity kind of heat and complexity that a jalapeno doesn't have. The way to tone down the heat somewhat is to remove the seeds and pith. That gives you a slow-burning heat with that fruity, complex undertone. It's not jerk chicken if you use a jalapeno. Use the habaneros. Trust me. I've been to Jamaica 19 times and I make a jerk chicken that makes people weep with joy. And for G*d's sake, no pineapple juice in the marinade! I mix pineapple juice with ketchup, some reserved marinade, and 3/4 cup of Red Stripe beer, brought to a simmer and cooked down till it's thickened. about 1/2 hour. This recipe may be delicious, and it may be Jewmaican, but it ain't Jamaican jerk chicken.

    This is fabulous! I love hot dishes which my kids know. So, when we were in Mexico and not knowing what a Habanero pepper was, I took one to our table to eat. My son, in the meanwhile, knowing full well what it was had gone to get me a glass of milk. Which he gave me, as I ate the pepper by itself. Ya, mon, that was hot! I always thought cartoons that depicted smoke coming out of someone's ears were just for show! Nope, my ears were on fire. 😉 But ~ I still love HOT so used a Habanero in this.

  • @it4eric
    @it4eric 5 років тому

    I recommend Serrano peppers IF you don't want the Habanero intensity. I find Jalapeños inconsistent with respect to spiciness. Also, broiling as a substitute to grilling is highly recommended if doing Instant Pot. I'm going to adapt your recipe for the Ninja Foodi, thank you for providing the idea.
