For me, the keytar blends and complements the musical intention and is not overdone at all. And the young man has a lot of stage presence and is a skilled player. From a person (boomer) who marched in the very early 80's. I like this. Does every corps need a keytar player? Probably not. The Blue Coats have added another voice that complements the music and helped to sell the show to both the judges and the audience. They left us wanting more and wondering what they will do next. That's what sells tickets. Doing things different while keeping some of the traditional.
When I got to see this show live, I was blown away at how warm and full of a sound the Keytar had. It blended so well with the hornline, it was incredible!
I'm a dinosaur and I could not love this show more. I was in Bridgemen and I think this is the kind of thing they would be doing now if they were still around.
I saw it early in the season and they were still figuring out how to blend him with the ensemble but it sounded great at finals! also one of my friends met the soloist
@@MartinDGarcia1 I'm really on the fence between this solo and many other great DCI moments. But this is just SO unique and stands alone outside of "traditional" DCI moments! Easily one of the coolest moments in DCI history
Before anybody comes and hates on this video (and they WILL), just pause the video at 1:25 and look at how hyped the performers werre and listen to that crowd and go check yourself. This aint 1980's DCI anymore so get over it... And for the record, my marching years were 87-92. This whole show was possibly my favorite show of ALL time.
It's all about the joy of moving music, and Bluecoats bring that best. Thank you for finding the talents among your young people and sharing them with all of us--and not just this year.
the brass is like absolutely insane and the way bro just connects with the music makes the whole show just feel more special this is probably one of my favorites of all time holy crap
My marching band watches dci finals at Lucas oil every year, and this last season, he was in our seat section, and a bunch of us got pictures with him. He's super nice!
Let's take a moment and imagine you are the camera man who was right in front of that pack. That right there is the best spot you can be for that! He probably wasn't thinking of it that way, but that is where you need to be to feel the power the best!
I’ve been wanting a keytar for months and this absolutely solidifies wanting one, so sad I wasn’t able to get to see it for myself other than the clip in band class
Something I just noticed is on the final note, the trumpet behind the keytar soloist Ryan didn’t come in with the rest of the squad, but came in at the end with a screamer that persisted slightly past the final note. I wonder if that was intentional show design.
Yes they would rather make a forgettable show than have a show that is unique and boundary pushing and has the performers love the music so much that they put emotion and energy into their performance
What's your problem with it? Something about how it's not in the spirit of DCI? Or are you a traditionalist that believes that marching band can only be brass and drums.
@@Gcnico My first problem is that it sounds like shit. My second is that yes, corps are supposed to be able to whip out their horns and drums in a random parking lot and tear off heads instead of being contingent upon a good extension cord. That is the tradition, but my beef is not a tradition thing, it's more of a getting what I came here for thing. I didn't come to DCI every year since the early 80s for a bunch of precious WGI bullshit that wasn't designed for a football field, just because directors can't come up with innovative ideas anymore. I came to have the impact of an impeccable percussion section and The Razor's Edge of a hungry brass line tearing my head off. I didn't come to have a $10,000 marimba assault me through a $500 PA while simultaneously making the brass sound about 3 in tall.
@@apulpd well of course, but it'd be ignorant to think they aren't showing how they really feel. Especially if they're leaving it all out on the field for that final performance.
I love how this guy is basically a celebrity now

He is super talented! I didn’t realize the scope of all he does musically. So incredibly impressive!
Based on the one time I briefly met him after a show, he’s a really giving, humble and nice human.
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Right! My brother ran into him at an airport and sent me a pic with him.

@@ryanrosales118Yeah he’s a pretty nice guy
I started getting into synthesizers recently and I'm not going to pretend this show didn't have anything to do with it. Awesome job dude!
Me but Bloo in general (I actually reverse engineered the pitch bend synth).
I want to buy a Keytar because of this show
This might be the best thing I've ever seen in DCI history. Seriously.
Bottle Dance
Very debatable for “best” if we’re looking at objectively. But subjectively, I can see it.

This part is so badass.... Actually may be the best part of the season for any show
He’s having the time of his life and I love it lmao
I love that this was mostly improv and still was so good for finals night. This solo is so beautiful.
back again. his passion and enthusiasm is so hot. he just jams out. god i would love to meet this dude

that's what i was thinking the whole time lmao
Nah bro is Ryan Trahan
I mean his name is literally Ryan
So, at the DCI judge's seminar this winter will they still be asking "is this really GE, is this really communicating with the audience?"
I’ve watched this 7 times
I know that mf face, I make that face performing right before I cry

It was probably people saying “blue” to cheer for them

Yeah, they were saying "Bloo." I couldn't help but join in when I saw them live in Glassboro. My teen daughter has a crush on this kid!
They're not booing, they're blooing.
always wanted to say that
I get it. It’s a key-blade. 😬🤣
They need to zenkai their outfit
For the record - This is NOT the best trumpet solo in DCI history.
he's not wrong
I'm more surprised to see the camera operator using autofocus lenses!!
Thats what passes for rocking out? He should have just went up there and played hot cross buns
why is his face like that
