As a part of being in a Marching band during my high school years. I play flute for 1 season, Trumpet for 2 seasons, and caller guard for 1 season (pretty much I’ve being a part of my school marching band for my entire high school years). The trumpet section was the most funnest section as the Trumpeters in that section are fun to hang out with, except that one emo guy. Flute was ok, They’re mostly serious and passionate, though they have a fun side as well. I hate caller guard position, those flags are heavy af and they expect me to swirl it back and forth and dance around with it, I almost hit one trombonist one time during our practice.

The craziest part about this video is that it came at the end of a very close battle with the other school’s Trombone section, and the rest of the band had never heard them play this song. They looked confused during the build up and that’s why they reacted so hype to the solo, because not only was it absolutely incredible, they had no idea it was coming and being rehearsed behind the scenes. Furthermore, this is only shortly after the section learned the song, since this was the official “unveiling” moment. Which means it’s probably not even these players’ best performance of the song.

What I absolutely love (besides that otherworldly trombone solo):
    - they played this during a trombone battle against another school. Though no winners were declared, from this alone I think we all know who "won."
    - the reason why the rest of the band looks so surprised and hyped is that this is the first time anyone out of the trombone section heard this piece.
    - even the crowd behind them watching the game got hype for it. If you look closely, you'll see people immediately start standing up and beelining over to the band section.
    - though it doesn't show in this clip, in the original video, the roar from the crowd and the band were deafening. They all KNEW what they just witnessed and they dunked on the other band h a r d.

That energy is unreal. The first time I got to play in front of over 80,000 people in my college marching band was surreal. The cheering is so loud you can barely hear yourself playing no matter how loud it is. Play some high notes in that environment for the whole season and you put so much air through your horn you start to sound like that. Answer man: They aren't the same because pushing against this extra resistance makes playing high notes easier on the baritone than on the trombone. What the two instruments do have in common, is that they play approximately the same range of notes. This is because the length of tubing is roughly the same in both
