@@bayareathrasher666 I hear you. That particular Megadeth line-up consisting of Dave, Marty, Ellefson and Menza is what really puts the album on top for me. I love Metallica but after Cliff died, they could never compete with that in my opinion.

Megadeth is definitely deep. And yes the last line said thoughts. Through the years they have covered wars, crooked governments, religion, etc. That album cover you are talking about is "Rust in Peace" and is considered by many to be the best thrash album ever.
In my personal opinion Rust in Peace is the best Trash Metal album of all time so I agree . Some say Master of Puppets which is actually the album I grew up listening to. The difference between the two albums is that as the years go by Rust in Peace and also Peace Sells albums are aging well and when songs like The Conjuring, 5 Magiks, Holy Wars, Good Morning Black Friday, Hangar 18, or Tornado of Souls is played I still get goose bumps and I’m amazed at the absolute mastery of the guitar work and bass lines and drums on these songs. Chris Polland was a jazz guitarist who was taught to play Metal by Dave Mustaine. Dave also thought James Hetfield how to play his metal riffs and the Spider Cord technique on guitar playing. That is why early metalica sounds like Megadeth but since metalica has the worlds largest fan base they always say Megadeth stole metalicas riffs and sound which is actually the other way around. Either way we have 2 great bands with similar sound.
The second part about the Punisher also applies to (holy) wars. You lose family in war, you lose yourself, they don't want you to think for yourself while that's happening, they just want you to do their bidding and fight and die for the cause. Still relevant to the first part.
Asia and BJ getting into some metal. Asia is right, the last line "Next thing you know they'll take my thoughts away" Song primarily pertains to war in the Middle East and Israel but Mustaine said it's about holy wars fought all over the world. The idea for holy wars and what it's about actually has to do with the fight in Ireland between Catholics and Protestants. Look at my comment I posted, the timing of the release and Gulf War tied the two together forever. Now Mustain clearly expanded beyond just what he saw in Ireland and the Middle East had been fighting a holy war during the 80's already so it all does tie together in the end. Thanks everyone

I've not been to many live shows but I did get to see Megadeth at a venue in Charlotte NC called the Tremont. They sounded really good and even though it's not a huge venue the crowd was lit. The highlight of the show was when they performed peace sells and the crowd all new the words and were singing along

You're welcome :)
I focus on the music more than anything. Then I worry about what the song is about later. It might be a weird way to listen to music, but as a guitar player/musician, the music will always come first...and this song is a masterpiece musically.
Megadeth are one of the most informative band in metal.. And in my view.. The best metal band on the planet.. 15 great and varied albums.. With a 16th on the way. This song is from album number 4.. You are correct in what he said.. Take my thoughts away.. The first part is Holy Wars.. The second part is Punishment Due.. Holy Wars is about religious war, misunderstanding and difference. The second part is about the Punisher character from Marvel it covers the characters origins in the lyrics.. They fix surprisingly well together as you can hear.
Yall this from 1990 member. The shit he is singing about is still very relevant today if not more than it was then. Either way though the song is f'kn great the reaction was great. Respect and love. Would you guys check out a band called Snot...song is "Snooze Button" or some Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves, both band names. The album cover from Rust in Peace depicts the World Leads of 1990. First President Bush, the PMs of England and Japan, the President of Germany and Gorbachev of Russia. They are at 'Hanger 18' with Vic Rattlehead, Megadeth mascot, as he appears to attempt to resurrect an alien. The cover is more in line with the song titled 'Hanger 18' off the album than Holy Wars... The Punishment Due. The album title comes from the last song on the album, Rust in Peace, Polaris, a song about the perspective of a nuclear weapon.
Went and saw those dudes live last September. Been waiting for that moment all my life. Totally lost my shit when a giant Vic Rattlehead stormed the stage. Awesome show!

I think the next Megadeth songs to do is called “44 Minutes” It’s about the two Bank of America robbers in Los Angeles that attacked the police with AK-47s. You may remember the footage on TV I know it’s been a while but Megadeth wrote a song about it and it’s amazing

as others have said in the comments, this is called "Holy Wars/The Punishment Due", the second part is the story of Frank Castle aka The Punisher, the comic book character. They killed his wife and baby etc.
I dont know how many times ive haard this album. Had it on cassette tape. I knew the current drummer, Dirk Verbeuren when i was a kid in France. Great guy, still cant believe it.
The creepy guy on the cover, his name is Vic Rattlehead. He's the mascot of Megadeth. Another band who has a mascot like this is Iron Maiden. Their creepy guy is named Eddie. Just a suggestion, pull up lyrics on your phone so you can better understand what's actually being said. The line was "wage the war, on organized crime. But the music video, watching them nail it on those guitars and drums is a sight to see. Also, check out " A tu la monde ".
For years I tried getting my black friends to listen to heavy metal and they just kept calling it devil music and I said there’s a lot of messages deep messages in these songs but they just weren’t having it so I’m glad that or there’s a lot of these reaction channels with good Black people genuinely liking some heavy metal
@@antondzajajurca7797 right on!!! I’ve seen Suicidal way back in the day myself. I believe I’d have rather seen them over AIC, but AIC was a good opener as well…
Hi Asia, I think you misheard that early lyric (it's metal - it happens even to us metalhead veterans, lol)... The line is not "Race war is organized crime", it's "Wage the war on organized crime". This song is actually "2 in 1", and has an extension of the title. Its full title is Holy Wars / The Punishment Due (I used a forward slash but it's often done with an ellipses - not sure if there's significance in that, given their first 3 album titles?). The first half is about the conflicts in Ireland (I always thought it was about the wars in the Middle East, especially with that "sitar" break in the middle). The second half of the song is about the Marvel comics vigilante, The Punisher. If you are familiar with the character, then the lyrics will all fall into place. But if not, well, the short version is it's about a solider in the US military, Frank Castle, who served and then was screwed over by his government - forsaken veterans and all that. His wife and child were murdered (I forget if it was done by common criminals/mobsters, or if the CIA did it to coerce Castle to their will), and he went full "Death Wish" and became The Punisher, doing what the American government seems so very uninterested in doing : punishing criminals for their crimes. You DID get that last line correct, though : "Next thing you know, they'll take my THOUGHTS away". Kind of prophetic, given all the censorship going on today. Right now it's still speech policing and "hate speech" nonsense, but thought crimes are just around the corner.
The Holy Wars first part is about global religious conflict, particularly in Israel and Northern Ireland. The second part "The Punishment Due" is about Marvel Comic's the Punisher and how he wages war against orginized crime.
'Holy wars' was about the Middle East conflict back in 1990... 'The punishment due' was inspired by Marvel comics 'The Punisher' character Frank Castle, whose family was murdered and he became the anti-hero who waged war on organized crime... 'Punisher' became 3 lame movies... 1 impressive Netflix series w/ 'Walkin Dead' actor Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. The album cover for the 1990 Megadeth album 'Rust in peace' was referring to the nuclear arms race during the cold war... the character is Megadeth's mascot Vic Rattlehead in 'Hangar 18', which is supposedly the location of where aliens landed in Roswell, New Mexico... the people watching are all the world leaders back in 1990 - Pres. George Bush, USSR Pres. Mikhail Gorbachev... etc.
Being a metal fan who heard the song when it came out 30 years ago I know that they're about to be in four of them big ride as this video plays on and they're going to love it
This is a 2 part song....Holy Wars...and the Punishment Due. The first part he is talking about holy wars "Killing for religion, something I don't understand". the Second part is taken from the perspective the the victim's of the wars. Fantastic song, but always helps to have a lyric video on a first listen :)
What's crazy is that Dave is singing AND playing rhythm. And these aren't strumming chords, this is intricate guitar playing all the way through. Epic song.
I love how you two anaylyze the song, lyric wise. Not many reactors do that. This is an important aspect of the Megadeth legend. Dave Mustaine is an intelligent human being with something relevant to say.
The song was influenced by the northern irish conflict in the late 80s. The second half was the comic book the punisher. Hanger 18 and the album cover themes were infleunced by the drummer nick menzas fascination with military expriments and percieved UFO and Alien coverups. Somehow even when dave was strung out on heroine he can still write deep album lyrics about current events involving government corruption and overreach. Thrash metal and death metal are full of songs with themes like this.

@@jack-of-all-trades1234 Cool! I'll probably try checking them out today. Just slow in coming back to guitar with two broken hands, ha. --I just say that since I'm looking to get back into playing and trying to find both lyrics and music I relate with***
In the middle the song is about “The Punisher” so that’s what that is but it ties in well with the song. It makes me so happy to know Asia likes Megadeth 😊
I've not been to many live shows but I did get to see Megadeth at a venue in Charlotte NC called the Tremont. They sounded really good and even though it's not a huge venue the crowd was lit. The highlight of the show was when they performed peace sells and the crowd all new the words and were singing along
You are correct Asia...my favorite metal band MEGADETH
MD has always been my fave thrash metal band
The cover art you were curious about is depicting the Megadeth mascot 'Vic Rattlehead' and to better understand what is going on in the image listen to the track 'Hangar 18'
If I still have your attention this far in I encourage you to listen to 'Corrosion of Conformity' a Southern Rock - genre - any tracks with vocals by Pepper Keenan.
The people sitting down on the cover were some of the major world leaders of the time when the album came out.
The mad thing is Dave mustane does not rehurse and he still plays like this
Yall this from 1990 member.
Any song from Suicidal, and check out the remix of Imigrant Song from Led Zeppelin that Infectious does. PLEASE!! 😊
Yes he did say - "Next thing you know they'll take my thoughts away."
This is a masterpiece this album , i Found out megadeath is really grouded even if Dave were not Shen hé wrote His best music. Hé was a Jéhovah Témoins youth, that is explaning is apocapltic songs, happy you love IT , thanks for the share.
First part of the song is about Holy wars happening in the Middle East, the second part is about the Marvel comic book charictor The Punisher.
Wish you had done the live version, but glad you covered this song all the same. My favorite Megadeath song!
Went and saw those dudes live last September. Been waiting for that moment all my life. Totally lost my shit when a giant Vic Rattlehead stormed the stage. Awesome show!
Sweating Bullets was always a fave for me
She'll blend right in to the crowd yeah, awesome jam more 🤘😆🤘🎸🎸🎤🥁
Rock On 🤩 1990 released
5:00 "wage the war on organized crime."
It's about Frank Castle aka The Punisher.
RIP TO NICK MENZA.
BEST METAL DRUMMER EVER.
Really enjoy watching the two of you. Excellent reactions, and it's very apparent that y'all are very much interested, and like, much of the rock music that y'all react too. I'm very familiar with what you guys react to. White male. 60 years of age. Native Texan. 😊
I think the next Megadeth songs to do is called
“44 Minutes”
It’s about the two Bank of America robbers in Los Angeles that attacked the police with AK-47s. You may remember the footage on TV I know it’s been a while but Megadeth wrote a song about it and it’s amazing
Asia, I would gladly take you to see them. My favorite band! 🤘
Yooo this was yesterday! Allright i got some suggestions for furthering your megadeth journey:
Wanna cry? Megadeth - Promises
Top 3 all time solos? Megadeth - Tornado of souls
Blow your shit again? Megadeth - Hangar 18 (preferably back to back with Return to Hangar)
Insane live performance? Megadeth - She-wolf from Rude Awakening DVD
Megadeth are on tour in 2022... 🤘🤘🔥🔥new album due out later this year - 'The sick, the dying and the dead' 💀💀
Roswell aliens that were recovered on that album cover
as others have said in the comments, this is called "Holy Wars/The Punishment Due", the second part is the story of Frank Castle aka The Punisher, the comic book character. They killed his wife and baby etc.
The greatest Metal song of all time!
Lyrically the song has two parts. The first part is about holy wars. The second part is based on the comic book The Punisher.
For years I tried getting my black friends to listen to heavy metal and they just kept calling it devil music and I said there’s a lot of messages deep messages in these songs but they just weren’t having it so I’m glad that or there’s a lot of these reaction channels with good Black people genuinely liking some heavy metal
I saw them after this came out and we’re doing the Clash of the Titans tour with Slayer, Anthrax, and Alice In Chains opening up. Think it was 1991…
Same here. On european part of the tour tho'. Suicidal Tendencies were there instead of Alice in Chains.
@@antondzajajurca7797 right on!!! I’ve seen Suicidal way back in the day myself. I believe I’d have rather seen them over AIC, but AIC was a good opener as well…
The second section of the song, The Punishment Due, is based on the Marvel comic story The Punisher.
Hi Asia,
I think you misheard that early lyric (it's metal - it happens even to us metalhead veterans, lol)...
It's called thrash metal because it's fast and heavy
So the first part is talking about all the violence in northern ireland and the second part is about the comic book character the Punisher.
Mikhail Gorbachev... etc.
Oh s*** you guys got around to this one. Definitely one of the top five metal songs ever
Yay! One of my all time favorite bands.
Megadeth - Family Tree💪
The people in the background of the album art were the current leaders of the world at the time the album was released.
The second part is about the Punisher. It was Mustaine's favorite comic book at the time.
@@TheRQpaints Finally someone else that knows this
Basically anything off of Rust in Peace is great.
He said "thoughts" away
What's crazy is that Dave is singing AND playing rhythm. And these aren't strumming chords, this is intricate guitar playing all the way through. Epic song.
I’d love to hear Asia singing some metal 🤘😍
Such an epic song. Musically it goes everywhere
I love how you two anaylyze the song, lyric wise. Not many reactors do that. This is an important aspect of the Megadeth legend. Dave Mustaine is an intelligent human being with something relevant to say.
It's ok , but the verse is-Wage the war on organized crime. Politicians organize the shit we gotta die for.
Holy wars,,,, the punishment due.
The second part of the song is about The Punisher. Dave was a fan of the comic
He was saying "next thing u know they'll take our thoughts away ." Asia was right . Cool review.
I love to see black people listening and enjoying metal music makes my heart warm and brings tears to my eyes! Love you guys!
Great Reaction! Megadeth is in my top 10. You should react to Hanger 18 I think it's master class. So many solos
