@@francescoprezzano3161 Keep in mind that the later engines produced less HP. The 2009 2.4 engine produces 158hp. The 2005-2006 XRS had 170hp. The engines were downgraded after the 2005-2006 XRS. Also, the XRS 2005-2006 rev to 8200 before redline.
The XRS sounds so much more raw than the Si in my opinion. Yamaha and Toyota partnered up to create the 2zz which is why it has such a unique almost motorcycle sound to it. I also love the Toyota 2z engine series which has the legendary 2jz in the same family.
@w00t692 If you over-rev any engine you're looking for trouble. The problem with the oil pump in the 2ZZ is caused when you corner the car at over 1G while also keeping the revs above 6K or so. The oil pan in the 2ZZ isn't baffled so during a hard corner at high RPM you run the risk of having the oil pump suck in air because all the oil is pushed off to the side. This isn't a problem for a corolla XRS unless it has huge suspension upgrades. It is a problem for Elise and Exige owners.
I've heard of it happening on the Celica GTS as well. And I guess Toyota didn't learn their lesson, because the GR86 has the same problem. Maybe they didn't expect people to do 1G corners though lol
@jblondeau82 I've driven this engine in a Matrix XRS. Loved the noise it made and pulls well but the high cam switchover occurs at 6700 so the powerband is much narrower than a K20 which engages at 6k. I realize this was a great motor for Toyota so why would they stop building it and replace it with a lazy camry engine?
Thats a nice race man..I drive a Stock 05 spec v and raced one of those Rolla beating it from low end power but unfortunately not high end. They got power for what they are. but still, gotta love those XRS.
Impressive. Not hating on the Civic, but glad to see that it has some worthy competitors out there like the Corolla XRS - in my opinion...a total sleeper car.
Funny you should say that. I've never heard anyone else mention it. However, not too long ago, I mentioned this same thing to my buddy while discussing car shit. Every Toyota I've owned, and he confirmed this with his experience, 3rd just seems to pull beautifully.
@Dani01c Is your brothers name Gustavo by any chance? ppe 3inch intake, ppe custom race header, 2.5inch cutout, pfc tuned by me, light stock ported intake manifold and bored stock tb. Those are my main modifications man.
05 and 06 corollas came available in two engines, they were both 1.8 liter. stock CE, S, and LE corollas have 130 hp, but the stock xrs rolled off the line with 170 hp 1.8 liter, the civic in this video looked like a 2008 and a 2008 civis si came with a 2 liter 197 hp. in 2003 and 04, there was a trd supercharger option on the corolla, i wonder how that would turn out
The header really matters on this car. What header does he have on it? DCRH? Strup? Vibrant? All these headers are kind of cheap, and only 1 of the 3 has a 2.5" collector.
That is correct, Lift on the 2zz is higher then USA, Euro & Aus spec Hondas but not JDM Hondas. I do love both VVTL-I & VTEC, not sure why people hating on which one kicks in harder or not. Most stupidest argument ever!
Good race!!! If the si was shifting a little faster it would of been very close! Closer the better . I have a 08 si and a friend of mine has a b20 coupe he pulls half a car on take off and stays there till bout 80ish then I come back. When it's close you just want to go 4 ever!! My car is stock except for intake.
@dunkchamp their okay only reason why is performs well is because toyotas are light as shit. celica is lighter than 2000 civic Si and gsr by 100+lbs and the corolla is 200+ less than the 06 Si
As I hear it... it seems to be a VVT-i Engine sound (I have a 2.4 VVT-i with CAI and pipe) and my friend got a Celica with a 2zz-fe VVTL-i... and it was not the same sound
@jsuttonus We'll see, if they get rid of the stupid hybrid batteries it will probably drop the weight by 200 lbs at least. If the engine makes 190 hp with the 6MT and weighs around 2400-2500 lbs it will be a quick car.
I've owned both and both being 06 and that honda driver fucked up or is something wrong with car or the corolla has more mods on it cause the xrs is not beating the si
if you wanted to compare coupe to coupe, look up celica gts vs civic celia gts still uses the same engine as the corolla xrs, but to my belief the gts is even lighter than the corolla xrs
@Dani01c Bro I doubt he had the same modifications as me, and to make power on the 2zz you need to buy the correct parts. But if you wanna race an xrs with cams lmk I'll set up the buses that would be put on your i/axle back si!
lol the k20 has like 10+ different header brands or replicas that you can buy. Don't blame Toyota that they were able to build this size of a car so much lighter than the civic si.
i smoked an xrs in my si. he came close but winning is winning. i love the xrs though, but the interior lacks in my opinion. the si has much better looks and better quality interior. theyre both great cars though.
you say you came close but you also say you smoked him. Beating someone by half a car or less isnt considered smoking someone. Its just a good race nonetheless.
@TheRznballa No I don't. XRS=130 hp Si=200. Yes the XRS will beat the Si with aftermarket parts, but if it is down to Stock cars The Si beats the XRS hands down.
well just to set the record straight, civics have a smaller 5th gear ratio , which means it can accelerate close to top speed faster than corolla xrs's if toyota wanted to, (and should have done) is made a close ratio gear box so the engine stays in lift....... but they didnt anyways check gas milage highway for both cars..... most people on a daily basis would have been happier with the space and mpg of the corolla xrs
@afterlyfe33 it may be k24 but brings the same hp as the k20, and its not tsx k24 ,its worst cause the head and the header is one piece, u cant change it
@xoquixxoqafxo Toyota has tested their 2zz-GE motor to run at its redline for 12 hours + so no the engine isn't going to blow up "whenever they rev it past 6 grand".
i dont hate on anyone. im not only just Honda. just that putting a boosted Corolla S with an Si is not evenly matched. i want to see that XRS with an Si-R.. but unfortunately they've both gone extinct in the U.S. I love TRD just as much as i love V-TEC and Spec-V. i lol. but thanks for pointing that out. haha i am no where near these haters trust me.
I've watched about 7 XRS race vids...Havn't seen a XRS lost yet...damn, they are way stronger then I thought.
I love both HONDA and Toyota. They make a good engine.
Keep in mind that the Xrs is a 1.8 SEDAN
09 and up are 2.4 !:)

Nice race the xrs is a sick ass little sleeper gotta love Si's to, nice cars nothing to hate on both good cars in my eyes
dude at 0:11 when the engine rpms synced up omg that sound is crazy
I love how si's sound, and I also love how XRS engine sounds!!!

That's awesome that the k20 has so many different header choices. We only have 1 race header..
R.I.P. VTEC

Wow, a 10 year old comment from a legend.
Impressive. Not hating on the Civic, but glad to see that it has some worthy competitors out there like the Corolla XRS - in my opinion...a total sleeper car.
the honda fans now dont make excuse that the corolla have mods because both cars sounds with basic mods
Yea I don't really consider boltons a mod
*****
well they are mods
Was a driver's race for sure, but all we can say is, that both had exhaust. The civic could have had more or the xrs could have had more.
mark true spurs fan nah you dont get anything much out of it

dont fuck with any toyota's 3rd gear
thats right i have a XR and belive my 2nd and 3rd gear are the beast for the mvec an vtech racer jaja oh and kia forte 2012 jaja

***** with stock ecu 3rd and 4th are the strongest back to back gears IMO. I raced my buddies EVO X and he even said that 3rd and 4th were stoutest.
vvtil will start to lift at 5000rpm cam will adjust and valves will open wider and gets more air at high rpm.
Did the honda forget stepping on the gas at 3rd or something? something fishy.
K20 engine on the 3rd gear power dropped. That's why they introduce k24.
what kidna camera are you using? btw love the lift/vtec sounds resonating at :14
The 2ZZ sounds fucken amazing 😍

Wow, that corolla sounds pretty sweet
@TheTongMan 2006, its the 9thgen corolla with 2zz engine.
where do you get k24 from? This car has a k20 from factory and he is still running the stock motor.
what kinda camera are you using?

if your adding a supercharger in it, the si has a ct supercharger that adds about 60 hp soooo yeah i would wonder how it would turn out lol.
The supercharger for the 1zz fe bumps it up to 220-230 hp so almost double the hp😂

@AdamMoss14 a weak engine swapped with another weak engine.. sounds super smart
Locked lift with the Toyota would make it a rocket… you can just see the power when it hits the lift.

i m starting lovin this xrs its crazy
@Dani01c tru but doesn't change that fact that my motor is bone stock internally.

read the other comments, someone already said in detail what the problem is with these motors.
XRS: ladies first
SI: i beat you
XRS: in your dreams :P

That symphony @ 0:12
SI stock 197. XRS stock 170. How did the civic lose? Weight to horse power I presume?
torque... remember HP sells cars, torque win races.
Civic is 250lbs heavier than xrs, and even then the xrs has a tune because there is no way
This isn't the first Si I've raced. There is also other videos of me beating many rsx-s and other si's.
@magusownz
Psh. Whatever, a tiny mistake. I saw the oil pump problem on wiki, look it up.
What year corolla??
2zz is a totally under rated motor. This is coming from a fg2 owner
Get em lift, GET EM LIFT! Got the Civic baby!
TRD RULES!!!
@Dani01c Bro my motor has never been opened. I've never even taken the valve cover off. Stock internals.
is that right? give me a reason why it "sucks"
awesome race!!
@afterlyfe33 so it took honda 13 years to make a civic beat a corolla... impressive
Does civics loose to Corolla ?
if you wanted to compare coupe to coupe,
look up celica gts vs civic
celia gts still uses the same engine as the corolla xrs, but to my belief the gts is even lighter than the corolla xrs
It seems about right to me. I've beat his car with flashpro before.
@lilmiss2sweet Matters what modifications each car has
No he out launched me that's why he kept up so well. In a roll race there is less driver error than a dig.
damn....and the Corolla had a passenger. I dont get it, i raced one of these a while back in a 4th gen Maxima and won, but i lost to a 4 door si....
I want a Xrs badly
i love both of these car so much, but i can safely say that i prefer to drive the civic si (i own both of them so :) )
@aznfryk with a stock motor xrs. I don't get what you are trying to say here..
if they used a 1.8L would been a fair match too. maybe a b18c-R w/ 6spd?
@Dani01c Bro I doubt he had the same modifications as me, and to make power on the 2zz you need to buy the correct parts. But if you wanna race an xrs with cams lmk I'll set up the buses that would be put on your i/axle back si!

it's past 9 grand. But yes their oil pump actually is a weak point.
There was a Mitsubishi also in this video. Slow down video about 67 percent and you'll see a 4g63t wiz by.
