I always admire how delicate you are with cultures that aren’t necessarily your own by blood- your enthusiasm is so refreshing, it’s very clear how much you love learning about them just from the way you speak ! As someone who is white and also interested in other cultures, I always find it hard to reach a balance between adoration and appropriation, you strike it beautifully each time :D Much love to you, your family, and to anyone reading this 🤍
I thought culture appropriation was the exploitation of minor cultures. As in you adopt an element of a culture, claiming it's yours or use it in a disrespectful/stereotypical way. I know most ppl aren't like this, so if I see a white person or any other person that isn't part of my culture, dressed in native attire. I never get offended, I quite honestly think it's silly to be offended by something like that when ppl just want to know, not mock. Or find our attire pretty and want to try it out themselves.
@@joshienieto3584 for sure, but i think it's more in the sense that a lot of people will do things like wear traditional attire that has a lot of meaning and history behind it without doing any research or having any knowledge of that purely because they think it's pretty or aesthetic. kind of like people getting tattoos of words in other languages to look "cool and exotic" without even knowing what the word translates to. the issue isn't necessarily with appreciating the beauty of other cultures, it's with appropriating it for yourself (ESPECIALLY if you profit off of it) without showing due diligence or respect to the many other aspects of such things other than aesthetic appearance. hopefully this made sense haha
@@drewisdreaming I get your point, this doesn't change the fact that I think it's silly if ppl get offended when they see a person wearing the said attire that does not belong in their culture. Who knows, maybe the person did due their research and respect it, but other ppl are quick to say "culture appropriation!" Like most of the time it's damn clothes, get over it. You won't die, move on and stop being sensitive. Not saying you particularly are, I'm saying "you" as general public.
@@joshienieto3584 no i totally get that, i do think that everyone is WAY too sensitive nowadays and tend to jump the gun so quickly on stuff instead of focusing on all the people causing ACTUAL issues in the world. but i also see the other side of it in that a lot of people are so used to dealing with people disrespecting their culture that they assume most situations are like that, and i can't fully blame them for reacting like that if they've gone through it a lot even though it causes them to unfairly be overly suspicious of people who are genuinely innocent or well-meaning. anyway, i agree with you and i agree with points on the other side too! i think everything is just heavily reliant on context so i look at the situation before forming any opinions. thank you for being civil and respectful in your response and i appreciate your perspective!! :)
@@drewisdreaming it is very unfortunate that the ppl disrespecting other cultures get more attention. Congratulations to you both! May your journey into parenthood go smoothly. That inimitable warped Dollightful humor was a welcome addition to my evening, and she looks lovely as usual! Just remember the old saying about how no battle plan survives first contact with the enemy in regards to the hanbok process not going correctly the first time. :) Your crafting room is a lot like the top of my painting table when I'm in the middle of a project as well!
I always grin so big when she gets vocally excited about the doll she's making, it's relatable haha That doll is gorgeous! The design was such a great idea!

Rope can be made of any woven fiber, so i'm sure it's possible! Weirdly, I recently had a friend show me a Project Guttenberg book of Victorian jewelry and decorations made of braided hair. I would be so cool to see dolls with knotted hair like that!

Hey Katherine! I’ve been around for a while and let me tell you, this is my new favorite doll! I think the details are so spot on and everything has such a nice balance. The silhouette is also very nice (I’m sorry, I’m a character designer.) I only wish you would’ve used Caterine Demew for the white skin, which would’ve really helped bring up the colors of the accessories and many traditional Korean dolls are also made out of porcelain. Have a nice day :)
OK OK, I have chosen you as a preferred artist for my college work and I have described both thus doll and sakura. Your work seriously brings me so much happiness and I'm beyond happy and excited to finally be able to include you in my project ^^

So I do see that side, also very glad that ppl aren't being jerks to Catherine about being married in traditional Korean attire. It was beautiful.
And of course, there is no need to be aggressive/dismissive/disrespectful when another party disagrees. Thank you for your perspective as well.
SHES SO PRETTY!!! I love looking at historical clothing, they're always so beautiful. I love this doll so much. and i'm so glad you're back!! I understand if your videos don't get out as fast as they used to be, you're a mom now. And i'm so happy for you! You're my favorite youtuber, and I'm so happy with this doll!
Oh gosh, thank you so much!
@@Dollightful omg hi 😅
I actually really love those pigtails left behind from her space buns! So cute !
I love how she goes all in on projects even when she is overloaded irl

I find the hair at the back so cute! Its like a piece of insight into her personality; formal on the front but secretly cute and fun!
Exactly! It’s kind of like how Merida from Brave takes a strand of her curl out of the wimple so she can still express herself in formal attire
Welcome back Katherine!! She looks absolutely amazing and it's def one of my favorite dolls from you ever! I would love to see more dolls like this in the future.
Thank you Amy!
@@Dollightful Can you make the Kayan tribe pleeaassee....
One of the most beautiful dolls I’ve seen and love that she’s based off Korean culture. It’s mostly Japanese and Chinese cultures I mostly see and I love learning more about Korean culture.❤
I always grin so big when she gets vocally excited about the doll she's making, it's relatable haha
That doll is gorgeous! The design was such a great idea!
This might be my favorite face up you’ve ever done. There’s just something about it that’s so amazingly beautiful
I like how RiceCake is smiling a little but it's a mature smile. I can imagine her taking the wedding traditions seriously while also having a lot of fun with her partner.
Right? With so many intricate decorations and accessories, it only brings that much more focus to the gorgeous face
I absolutely love her! I can’t even pick one thing to compliment, all of the elements of her outfit make her so special.
I am 16 years old and I am obsessed with these videos. You can never be too old for doll makeovers I guess! Keep up the good work and I hope you, your husband and your baby stay happy and healthy!
same! i'm 15 and i love these videos.
Oh your probably gonna call me old since a lot of people younger than me do but I'm 21
I'm 20 and I love her! I know there's plenty of people older than me that watch these videos too!
I am 56 and can't get enough doll videos! You are never too old of a soul to enjoy what makes you happy!
I'm 25! I've been here since the second video she ever made.
Every time I'm like "This is the best doll outfit she's EVER made!!" and then your next video comes out and I'm like "OKAY THIS IS THE ONE!!" xDD I love your styles and color patterns SO MUCH! So skillset is incredible
I would honestly love to see more dolls in this style. Maybe where her actual hair forms the norigae? I'm sure that's quite an undertaking, but I can imagine the colorful possibilities! I hope parenthood is treating you well. I'm looking forward to whatever you get up to next! :)
I would love to try that as well! Thank you :D
Rope can be made of any woven fiber, so i'm sure it's possible! Weirdly, I recently had a friend show me a Project Guttenberg book of Victorian jewelry and decorations made of braided hair. I would be so cool to see dolls with knotted hair like that!
Songpyeon is so beautiful! I love the incorporation of Korean tradition into her design.
I am so happy you're back! And with a Korean doll no less! My husband is half Korean so it's always nice to see the traditional styles reinterpreted by people who love the culture!
she is literally so cute !! i absolutely love how you took both traditional korean elements and a bit of modern with the blackpink inspo. i absolutely adore her :>
This doll is AMAZING! I honestly love the tail ends of her hair sticking out! I think it gives her a youthful and fantasy look, and from the front It looks like she has little pieces of hair by her face. I love the color scheme and use of traditional clothing and makeup! You really put a bit of everything in this doll! I missed you so much Katherine and I am so happy that you, your husband and the baby are healthy and well! Been falling asleep to your videos for the past month and I watched this on my lunch break at work, I am so excited to have you back! And just in time for Halloween!
I'm not sure if anyone has already said this but I think this would be a fun mini series to make of these dolls with different Norigae! I'd love to see more of those amazing drawings come to life with her!
i honestly love the imperfections in the transfers! it makes them look very realistic on such a small scale and adds a little age and weathering to the cloth :)
It kind of makes it feel like it could be a family heirloom, clothing with history :D !!
I loved when you said “bring her in!” And you just threw her! that was really funny, your videos always put a smile on my face no matter what. thank you for the amazing videos!
I’m so happy your back the doll is beautiful
I think the hair at the back adds to the 3D, layered effect you were aiming for. I love it! This was obviously a doll of passion, and I'd love to see more works like this where I can tell you love what you're working on. :)
This is probably one of my favorite dolls you’ve created! She’s gorgeous, I’m so happy you’re back and congratulations to you and your husband!
i know you’re unsure about the fabric transfers, but i love how they came out! i think they resemble realistic embroidery even better than a perfect transfer! also, the little fringes in the back are adorable!!!!! great job once again 💕✨
Absolutely agree
I SAW THE NOTIFICATION AND DROPPED EVERYTHING!!! Congratulations again on the baby! Glad to hear everything is going well for you!
So happy you're back! The serotonin and satisfaction of seeing you make art again is unmatched! Hope you and hubby and baby are all doing great!
I think the hair sticking out is so cute! It looks like little ponytails. She’s adorable Katherine!!! 🥰
I absolutely love how you so enthusiastically say, “Bring her in!” Then yeet the doll on the table. Glad your back!
11:50 as someone who went to schools for pattern drafting…yeah that’s how it goes 😂
Also this doll is absolutely stunning! I think she may be one of my favourites that you’ve made so far! I hope motherhood is treating you well!
Dollightful I’m just saying you NEED to try repainting those big life sized dolls, I’d love to see a vid like that 👍🏾
I love how you always incorperate aspects of different east asian tarditions into your dolls!! so inspiring :D
An idea for the next doll in this series? :)
genuinely one of the most awesome OOAK dolls ive ever seen!!!!
the composition of the outfit is gorgeous
OK OK, I have chosen you as a preferred artist for my college work and I have described both thus doll and sakura. Your work seriously brings me so much happiness and I'm beyond happy and excited to finally be able to include you in my project ^^
I was honestly expecting a longer "break" so my heart skipped a beat when I saw the notification from UA-cam. I've been watching you since like 2015 and it has been empty without your videos for a while but hey, I'm glad your back and I wish you all luck and fortune with your parenthood ❤️
that doll was beautiful and as much as I'm overjoyed that you're back, you do know that you can take more time off, right? You don't have to rush yourself❤
Welcome back! This doll is absolutely gorgeous and you should feel so proud of yourself. Especially when balancing being a new parent. The colour scheme is so well crafted and every artefact compliments each other. Thank you so much for creating this doll and for sharing the process.
This doll is absolutely gorgeous, you can tell how much effort was put into her!
Artistic dolls in traditional, or inspired by traditional clothing, were always my favourite.
:3
What a wonderful return!! She is absolutely lovely, I think this is the most beautiful face up you’ve done - the amount of care you took in details like sclera shading and thinning the eyelines absolutely shows in the refined finish! I love the outfit and the character, and her personality sure writes itself - ethereal beauty named Rice Cake? Sounds like a bubbly cutie to me! Glad you’re back ☺️
She's gorgeous! I'd love to see a series with the other sketches made into dolls
I am such a fan of the eyebrows, the soft fade is everything
I love how after all this time she still used her own home made tools lol, but in all seriousness how are you this good! Never been disappointed yet by a doll. Glad to hear new family life is going well!
Yay Dollightful's back! I hope you and your family are doing well! This doll looks beautiful by the way 😍
So glad to see your back! Made my day to see this and I hope everything is going well for you and your family! Also I adore this doll so much! It was really cool to see you do something like this with the Korean culture! I didn't know about all of this, really cool to see and the doll is so cute! Hope you are doing well and can't wait to see what you create next!
She’s beautiful! It was also fun getting to learn a bit about traditional Korean wear. Fantastic job as always Kathrine!!
I'm so glad to see that parenthood is treating you well so far, even if it's chaotic!! Much love to Dollightful Jr. & Husbando, & I won't lie I would LOVE to see the other designs as well! Maybe make it a series like the dragons except shorter & surprising us with different color palettes based on unique Norigae! Take care of yourself first ofc & we love you lots!
THE FACT YOU LITERALLY NAMED HER RICE CAKE IS SO FRICKIN CUTE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!! ♡
She’s so pretty! I’m really happy to have you back, you’re such a talented doll artist! I’m Korean and I love seeing Korean dolls because it represents our culture so well! Have a great day/afternoon/night!
Wow! This was such a complicated doll and you managed to make her look spectacular! So colorful and pretty. I love your attention to detail and traditional pieces. I also enjoyed how you added some personal touches to the video; like your wedding photo (you looked absolutely stunning btw) and the view of your art room. I hope you are enjoying motherhood and that you and your family are doing well. Thank you for taking the time to make videos for us! ❤
Absolutely spectacular! You’ve inspired me to start making my first OOAK! I hope I can get something slightly as beautiful as your dolls!
You'll make something wonderful, I'm sure! Have fun! 😀
Songpyeon looks amazing! I love how colourful and layered she is and I think you did a fantastic job of balancing the fantasy and real life elements of the design! I would not mind you making more designs based on this theme. Also super glad your back! But if you ever need more time to take care of your baby then that comes first! We've all waited this long, waiting a little longer in nothing to us true fans!
Wow, what a comeback! The eyes look so lovely. And the name is super cute.
The hair coming from the back makes her hair look more balanced, in my mind. I like it.
Beautiful wedding photos! Also I really like the 4th sketch from the design process, too!
So gorgeous! The traditional outfits of other cultures have always looked so pretty (I'd love to wear some if I could lol), so if you ever get bored one day you could probably do a series on making the traditional outfits of other cultures. Maybe even with a fantasy touch like with what you did with this doll?
This idea is great.
oh my gosh katherine this is quite possibly my favorite doll you've ever done, and that's saying something because i'm a big fan of your work! i love norigae too and the norigae-as-hair thing is SUCH a cute idea i love it to bits. i'd love to see you do more traditional korean inspired dolls, korea has such beautiful traditional fashion and so much interesting folklore to take inspiration from. a scary gumiho doll would be perfect for halloween! i might have to attempt something like that myself, if i can ever get up the nerve to attempt to make a hanbok with my meager sewing skills.
the "been looking at it for too long" phenomenon is so real oh my god
she's absolutely precious you'd absolutely been looking at her too long !
After not watching this channel for years like I'm now a teenager and I last watched this when I was 7 and now I'm back
Happy to see being a sleepdeprived new mom hasn’t totally killed creativity. Love the doll and the fact we also get to learn small bits of Korean folklore and culture through this process to. Hope to see more Korean inspired dolls in the future.
She’s gorgeous! I love how much love and respect and research you put into the culture. It’s so great to see you back and best wishes to you and your family on the parenting journey!
Fun fact: After the end card, there is a short cat video on every dollightful customization. :)
I enjoy those so much. It just reminds me mose doll customizers and artists have cats.
Beautiful bride!!! Congratulations on the new family member!! You’re child is so blessed to have you, I wonder what art they’ll create! What a stunning doll, I adore Asian culture and that dress is phenomenal
She’s absolutely stunning! I love her so much! I really want to learn more about Korean traditional dress now!
welcome back dollightful ! I hope you and the baby are well!
So happy to see you back! I've watched for several years, going back to when I was 12 (crazy right?), you made me want to try customizing my old dolls, and my family made fun of me, but I still kept going :)
Haven't made a doll in a long time, but this has inspired me to dig into my Ojibwe roots and make an Ojibwe doll! We'll see how it goes ;D
It's so cool to hear how online artists can truly influence and inspire other artists! I hope your journey back into doll customization goes well, I bet you'll make beautiful things as you get back into the craft :)

As a new mum myself I'm impressed with how you made such an elaborate doll for your first one back from maternity leave! Her outfit is stunning! Do you have plans to make a doll version of your little one?
I would love to see a doll version of the baby 😍
She’s beautiful! I honestly would love to see the other designs made into a mini series or something but I can understand how time intensive that may be. Regardless welcome back!
You know, this far in, I’m surprised we haven’t seen a pregnant doll repaint/maternal figure/matriarch oc. That would be super cool to see, especially now that there’s a babylightful.
