Our Future Without Privacy - Dystopian Short Film

- Dystopian Short Film - Is your cellphone always listening? Are we constantly being monitored? In a world of AI, internet censorship, the great reset, and where privacy seems to be destroyed this Orwell inspired dystopian short film is more relevant than ever before as we move towards our future without privacy.
Cartesian Presents Dissidence a dystopian short film.
In the year 2084, a government agent chooses to go without his mandated phone. This begins to open his eyes as he learns the consequences of speaking out against the surveillance state he is living in.
From the director: "Dissidence (2084) was first inspired by my study abroad trip to Budapest Hungary. As I learned more about Hungarian history and culture, I was extremely fascinated by how fascism and communism affected Hungarian culture. In a period of 2 years 1/20 Hungarians were sent the the Russian Gulag for political crimes. Today, these horrors seem like the distant past. However, with the the rise of cellphones and other technologies perfect for surveillance use, Dissidence stands as a warning to the importance of freedom of privacy and free speech often traded for convenience and 'safety'. This film was carefully planned to not alienate modern day viewers with a world happening in the distant future, or a far away place as many Sci-Fi's traditionally do. This is because the ideas in this film have already started to become a reality in our society."

Hey! I'm Matthew Brdlik the director of this film! I'm curious to hear what you all think of it! Do you see any parallels to the real world today?
This film was originally licensed by another channel and received 250,000 views and thousands of comments. I recently decided to pull it and start from scratch. It was a very hard thing to do, but I'm a big believer in this channel, Cartesian. It's in it's very early starting stages but we're hoping to build this channel with many other amazing short films in the future. Starting out is the hardest part so if you enjoyed I would really appreciate it if you wouldn't mind subscribing, liking the video, and leaving a comment so the algorithm will help promote the film and the channel!
Thanks so much for your help! :)
I knew I had seen this before. Hard hitting. I liked and shared
I get bored with horror movies but this will do if I ever need to step away from my garden and heighten my anxiety level a couple of notches.
Loved the film. As a student film maker, where did you get sponsorship to make your films? I have a great idea, but I have no idea how to fund it. What's your advice?
@@silwerkitsune5 Your best bet would be to look at your university for grants, then family or friends. I funded all my films however working a part time job through school.
I show this to all of my 12th-grade classes before or during our analysis of Orwell's 1984. Students connect much better with the concept of personal privacy with cell phones etc. The film is also great to find foreshadowing and symbols adding to the tension like the eye blinking in the background of the co-worker scene. All around, it is a great short film that should remind people how important personal privacy is and how powerful propaganda can be if it is piped in through social media.
My girlfriend nearly goes into a panic for me when I decide to go out with her without my phone, I have to tell her, " remember when we only had landline phones ". Also had a situation several months ago where a meeting was arranged with a social service and they went to the wrong location, I couldn't call them as I had genuinely forgot to take my mobile phone. I felt like I was being repremanded when I was told to make sure I have my phone with me in future. I told them " so I have to have my phone with me because of your incompetance". Sometimes when I want some peace I put my phone in an aluminium case.
Heck yeah, brother! A lot of us have forgotten how peaceful it was. Not me...but a lot of us. Good for you.
this deserves way more attention
Most will comply to this destopian future, which is only around the next corner. The evil entities who control through fear will have their wicked way.Once they introduce the chip ,the mark of the beast, the masses will follow gladly. The Belfast poet Andrew Beattie. Food for thought...
Just look at 4 years ago.
your comments are being watched....
True.
That was very good!
Can you do more please?
❤❤❤❤👍
the fact this only has 2k views and 6 comments is a disgrace, this was extremely entertaining the only thing is I dont like the "ULTRA MEGA PHONE BAD" kinda feel, other than that I thought it was good
I can relate, I am a geezer in my late seventies. I am the only one I know who does not have a smart phone. or any other device or pad. other than my computer. my cell phone does not have internet connectivity . I am at a loss when asked to scan locations. Miss out on cyber coupons and discount's. at the market. I feel very alienated but I do not text away from my Computer.
Welcome to your world. Double-plus good. Yeah...I just posted this from my phone.
Funny, cause i just phoned this from my post office. Its all a world small after 🤷♂️
@modera.torrent_ Funny you should reference Disney. Their animators are designing the 'Ministries of....whatever the Hell is wrong with Oceania'.
Dystopic futures like this are the reason we have middle fingers, lol!
Great short film!
one thing has always troubled me once I understood how different people are - the troubling part is the non playing characters - no one taking a stand - everyone just going along - worker bees - afraid to get in trouble for questioning the way things are - from cradle to the grave most people don't ever find their soul - have no concept of it - whole generations coming and going in clans where no one tries to change the way the reality of existence is really looked at - how sad - Matthew Brdlik - you have the notion correct - I have never had a smart phone - never registered to vote - saw really early on that it was all a lie
how did I see - well looking at the world - us against them - when I was a kid I thought okay so if a rabbit is born in mexico and crawls under the fence does it become an american rabbit? of course that is all concepts we have applied - even the name rabbit - what the hell is a rabbit - just a title - a place holder so we can feel like we know something about this life - when really we know nothing - smart phone - has no idea it is a smart phone - phone - what is a phone - just a word we applied to it - so everyone would be on the same page - but we are not on the same page - we have committed mutiny against the soul - the mind was created to serve soul but something interfered and mind has tried and lost to be the victor and control the world - if we had stayed with the soul we would never have gone down this path - we have thought our way into a living karma of hell right here on this planet - we think we are the highest form of life and don't even ponder that there has always been something here feeding of our energy and vibration just as we feed on cows and chickens and fish - all things with a soul - not a sin right - so that which feeds on us is not demonic - but we gave it that concept - we always have to blame something for our wrong in stead of accepting that we sin because we are born sinners - again just place holders for concepts we invented to placate our minds that we are in charge of things and know what is what - when we know nothing - not why we are here - not where we are going - not what we are suppose to be doing - we don't even know what our real names are beyond this simulated physical realm that is transitory - like a short phone call - we think it so important and have forgotten it the next day - such is life - no memory of all the calls (lives) we have had. It is all rather funny - this having to make believe there is so much to do when really - we should just be helping each other beyond money and materialism and allowing the compassion to rule instead of our ego.
Matthew understands - but even he is not yet aware of how much he will understand before the flow of spirit is done with him.
May I suggest you peruse The Catechism? It’s from a most rational of Faiths, and not one which we invented. I’ve chosen to believe it. And in Him.
Try it. You can always just put it back down.
I love thinkers like you... Tbh no one really knows anything and the worst part is we think we know everything so no one really questions anything. When I ask the questions you're asking people tell me I'm overthinking, I'll be depressed and I just look at them and scoff... Such sheeple.. All of this dystopian future shows will truly manifest because of way too many sheeple
This needs more views & attention , well done
I was looking for this film to share with my daughter. I watched it when it first came out and I never forgot it.
I would just carry my old Nokia phone
Coming to a first world near you.
Brilliant. I sit here on my tablet, oblivious to… 😉
Predictable but powerful
10/10 movie, keep it up
Underrated
A good short film that I always use in my course on Dystopian Fiction!
'Fiction' 😂
Where did you get this course?
@@KarantKiar I made it myself. If you give me your email, I can send you the material.
Wow. Amazing work.
Thank you for sharing, Matthew! Great job!
feels like a cut from 1984 novel
How our parents think the world would be if we all used our phones:
Anyway jokes aside, it’s good to take a break. Yes, I could do vr bowling in VRChat but I can‘t do ice bucket in VR, I have to go in person to do that.
we already don't have privacy, saw a drone peeking at me last night and when I went to get up and get a better look, it flew downwards behind a big evergreen....
Wow, wonderful work
this future is already here
Thank you for reminding us what could happen what they wanted to happen. They un subbed me as I hadn't missed an film since the plan demic And I enjoyed the film and look forward to more..
Can someone explain the restaurant scene?
Truth in evil AI run documentaries.
This movie is not much of a stretch. I feel that we will go way past the situation described in this short. Way past.
I'm imagining all sorts of sequels. Zac has the knack.
We're already there...citizen.
You're looking at life in China's social credit system.
