- Here is a little tour of Stephenville Newfoundland for my Aunt Tina who has been living in the States for most of her adult life. She requested this video but I hope all folks interested in visiting or all the Newfie's from here who are living away.
Enjoyed a tour at Harmon from June ‘65 to Jan ‘67. Met by beautiful Irish wife and we return to Little Rapids as often as we can with our three children and six grandchildren. It was a great experience and Newfoundland will always be a wonderful memory of the Newfoundlander’s I met and served with. Love the Rock. There are no better people in the world.
Glad you enjoyed it here, it's a very special place
Some cool going back in time. I’m from corner brook. I use to go to Stephenville lots in the 80s & 90s. Great videos. Thanks my buddy
Thank you! I grew up there some years. Lived on base & went to school in the village, St Stephens. Best friend was Mary Fleming (villager) who I have never forgotten. 1950’s !! Mom gave baby brother’s middle name, Canada because he was born on Canada Day. I’ve lived all over but It’ll always be home because of its beauty, especially the local people.❤️
Thanks for sharing! Glad you enjoyed the video... I'm going to do another one very soon
Eric and Rachael Rowsell had to say this tour of Stephenville was a pleasure to watch. I grew up in Port au Port and my husband Eric was from Millertown. We don't get home too often but this is a nice touch of bringing back beautiful memories of the town of Stephenville.
Glad you enjoyed it
That was a lot of fun. My father's wife is from Stephenville. I didn't realize it was such a substantial town.
yes I guess it has everything you’d need. but it might lack for everything you’d want
My dad was stationed there 1960 to 1963. As kids we loved it. I kept looking for our house we lived in, next to White's trailer park or Bayside trailer park. The area is still as beautiful as we remember it!
Maybe I'll have to do another video and include that area in hopes of you seeing your old house.
Always a pleasure to see my old stomping grounds. Thank you for sharing the hometown with the world. I can now direct all my friends who ask about Stephenville here.
Glad you enjoyed it
We lived on the base from December 1960 to June 1963. We three kids attended St. Stephen's Catholic School in town for the three school years that we lived there. Our home was on Georgia Drive and our dad worked at the port where he would go out and catch huge cod fish in the surf. I love the snow and thought we were living in a wonderland.
I was born in Stephenville in 1963. My father was stationed at Harmon AFB. We left before I was 2 so I don’t remember anything about Newfoundland. LOVED watching your video. Hope to visit some day.
Well I hope you do, there's plenty to see here.
That was funny about your grandma's apple tree 🤣great video of a beautiful town thanks for sharing and best regards from Maine USA
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching
Thank you so much for showing us Stephenvill
Funny story, my husband and I had just met and were hanging out. He asked me if I could grab him a Zhers's bag (I now know that is a grocery store here in Ontario). And I was so confused, had no clue what he was talking about until he showed me, then I was like "oh, a Food Centre bag"! Lived right beside the Food Centre while I was going to compu college. Thanks so much for posting!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed the video
I was stationed there from 1960 to 1964.... love Newfoundland
Right on Richard, is there a place you'd like me to video for you?
Hi. Do you remember a bob Spejcher (Spencer) or an Edward Low
Very nice little tour. It reminds me of my wife's visits home, she would drive all around town pointing out the landmarks and recalling memories...
Thanks for watching, much appreciated
Spent three years living on Georgia Loop back in the seventies. Went to W.E. Cormack Academy grades 1, 2, and part of grade 3, till the schools shut down due to a labour issue. Used to play Red Rover on the front lawn of the, now old, hospital, and buy chips and pop from the hospital canteen. The guy who ran the canteen was blind, but he always knew exactly what bills he was given, which was fascinating to us kids. I remember skating to school because the snow packed roads were almost as good as ice, and playing my first ever real hockey game in the old arena. First time I ever drove a car was on the old runway, sitting on my father's lap. I remember caddying for my father hoping like hell we would get back to the clubhouse to watch Evil Knevil's Snake Canyon jump, and watching the 74 series in the same clubhouse. I could go for days, and I was only there for 2 1/2 years.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time here. It's a place that sticks with you indeed.
Hope you enjoyed the video
Just saw your video and it brought back many memories of growing up in Stephenville. My parents owned the store you referred to in the video on Brook Street which after showing my parents they wondered who you were!
I was the little Red head boy from Queen Street Ext (Charlie White) who use to come there all the time. Spearmint leaves and fun dips were my poison of choice. And the bubble-gums... Glad the video brought you back some memories...
Nice job! Have not seen Stephenville since 2000. Brought back memories from just about every place you went.
Glad you enjoyed it
got me late night yearning for this place. i hope to come back and peacefully look at the beach from the high ground once again
hope you make it back and experience everything this place has to offer
Lived there from 1996-2008. Both my girls were born in that old hospital, as well. I still think of it as home.
Yes this place grows on you. Many folks great roots to hear over the years.
Great video Charlie! Miss home soooo much! I get there at least once a year, but I yearn to be there more often! If the health care was better, I would be there in a blink! Thanks for sharing!

Glad you enjoyed it
great video, always liked Stephenville,
Hey I'm glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching.
I used to steal apples out of Mrs. White's tree as a small boy some 20 years ago. God love your grandmother. She caught us one day and told us to knock on the door if we wanted apples, because she didn't want us to get hurt climbing the tree or breaking the branches. She always had fresh pies, baked treats and delicious apples when we went swimming up in the brook.
Yes, my grandmother was very nice. 40 years ago when my grandfather was alive he would booby-trap the grass under the tree with the steel rings from the old wooden barrels. You only needed to step on the ring once to know you never wanted that ring to spring up and whack you in the knees... LOL I haven't been up the brook in years. Heard that flood filled in Round pool and not sure what it did to Corner Pool but that was a good swimming hole as well.
NLGhostWolf ya the flood filled it in really bad. We used to swing off the tree when I was younger. About 15-20 years ago.
2:23 man oh man u gave me a roar on that one lol god love her!
Glad you liked it...
Lots of memories for me in this one

Charlie
Great stuff you even gave me something to chuckle about...Thank you...
Right on, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. What did you chuckle at if you don't mind me asking?
It was some of your comments along the trip and your interaction with who ever was in the car with you. Thank you.
I have not been to Stephenville since my dad's funeral (Herbie Chinn). 42 years ago, sure has changed. I think it is a beautiful place and such nice people. My dad was buried in St. Georges anglican church graveyard. I was hoping to get down to visit my Aunt Trix who will be 102 on July 12/017,but of course appointments for a few tests will keep me from there. I can always dream I guess, wonderful lady she is. Shirley Mac
42 years, that is a very long time ago. 102 years old, wow your aunt is amazing. Thanks for watching the video, I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane
Failed to mention Jack Hager my dad was a military policeman and did two tours up there. One at a radar sight, (1960ish) think it was pine tree, the other down on base from 63-66.. He made many friends and loved the hunting and fishing. From grand lake to fox island river he chased the moose and the fish, I still have a red fox hide that he trapped off golf course( it was grabbing the balls out of fairway). He had lobster pots and supplied the Nco club with lobsters. He even made the newspaper with an 11 lb lobster that he caught.. I’d sure like to see a video of the old Camp 33 base recreation area up on grand lake.. thanks..
Born there. Lived there till I was 12. Miss it so much
It's a wonderful area.
Nice tour i was station there mid 60s, was so cold but was not a bad snow that winter. We were warned we would be out on the run ways we would be digging out the planes. I worked out in the last hanger in the office. I had the best sargeant he was from Maine. Used to walk to work out to the hanger in a pretty good snow. I took pictures i still have. I met a nice english woman who worked in the recreation building had a stage. She was a great lady she made triffle with fruit and she prepaired a salmon. I had a moose meat dinner with the best brown gravy i ever had. A few of us got together with few of the girls they were pretty, we went to the ocean they took off there blouses and got into the water and played around i know it was cold. I got to kiss the prettiest one that it though the all came back to the car. I have a picture of June And I sitting together on the back of her Volkswagen at Indian Head. I had a room top floor of harmon hilton over looking the theater. I took a long hike dow a highway outside of stephenville i had pictures but lost now. I remember one scene i saw a farmer loading hay onto this big wagon what a photo that made and it was so green. I got to fly in the helicopter the little Huskey all over Newfoundland , finally after 50 years the photos i got developed. I was 24 then i am 78 now those memmories are fantastic. I wouldnt mine seeing there again. Thanks for the video the memmories just came back good ones.
Robert it sounds like you enjoyed your time here in the Stephenville area. I was born in the 60's but don't remember them. Yes the food we eat here is very tasty and we eat off the land as much as we can. Thanks for watching the video
I’m a little shit who invaded this area in 1963-1966. A stow away from the USA I was..Caught me a many a fish I did up in that Grand Lake and learned the abc’s in kindergarten over the little hills in cornerbrooke. Played hockey and road my bike threw those big mud puddles and bought my first hip waders and tackle box up on base at the BX..Sure do miss those lobsters.
If the people of Jack Buden or Leo Foley read this, I be the Wild Bill Hager, son of that ornery Jack and Toni Hager..Aye such vivid memories of my Yout..😂
great ride about, like the stories, that one about the can of beans if that was done today the fellow that through the beans would get charged.that was a great place to hide after throwing the snowballs.take care
haha, yes I'm told it was a great source of entertainment. LOL
Thanks, lots of memories there I am a white from Stephenville
It's time for me to do another video of Stephenville.
I remember Aiden white. From there. His head was so big but a nice guy
If all goes will this summer I got to drop in Stephenville for a visit
Forsure
Great narration. I haven't been home since I left in 2002. You sound really familiar.
Thanks John, much appreciated. Charlie
Last time I was in Stephenville I was on my way to Port Au Basque when the head gasket went out of my 1971 gmc half ton. With no cash to fix it I wound up selling it for $100 to a guy from Stephenville after I limped her down the road to the ferry.
Nice trucks back then, don't make them like that anymore. Somebody got a great deal on that truck. Sounds like you had a quit an adventure on that trip. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Much appreciated.
thanks for sharing! can you tell me anything about the esso garage? i discovered recently that this is for sale but im not getting an answer
🤔 I thought these apples were exceptionally different (02:26) 🍎 Thank you, Grandma, for your dedication! 👵 (02:35) "...and yes, Honey... we are including that in the final cut."
Thanks for watching, Hoped you enjoyed the video
Thank you for posting and sharing, my mother and her family grew up in the Crossing, anyone know the Benoit or Bennette family (my mother is Corrina)
I know some Bennetts from the Xing. Is she related to Troy Bennett?
I used to live in Stevenville..long long time ago. My dad was in the Air Force at Harmon. Beautiful. Is Stevensville close to the ocean? I was kind of young back then
Yes it's right on the ocean
We lived on galant street but don't know the exact address. Would love to see a tour of that area. Perhaps our old house is gone. Sad thing..as my parents tell me..on a clear day we had a view of the ocean. I was 6-7 yrs old so don't remember it. Can you possibly locate this place? One of my greatest bucket lists is to see Stevenville again. But not sure if the dear people of Newfoundland are under the covid restrictions..(which is a total travesty in my opinion). Please keep sending videos of this beautiful place. Love to all our Canadian neighbors
I now live in san antonio Texas. Would love to hear from my Newfoundlanders. I have fond memories of Stevenville and will never forget the the beauty of this land. Please send more video's
Might I also say..living in Newfoundland we listened to Ian and Sylvia as well as Gordon Lightfoot. It was a big hit in our family and we loved it. So..leaving Newfoundland in 1965 and going to California was a huge shock. Altho California was pretty nice in the 60's..not so much now. Fortunately I no longer live there. I really want to know how Newfoundlanders are doing now? Please let me know.
@@NLGhostWolf can u tell me where Galant street was? We lived in Stevenville for 2 5 years.
Your misses sounded like she was going to give you shit for taking about your grandmother's ashes and her apple tree and you ended that little part of the video just in time lol..I'm from twillingate but visited stephenville many times..thanks for the video and the laugh ...take care
Thanks for stopping by Ken
Hey my buddy, still going in, still haven't even saw a dang bull yet! Geting close to closing, and to deep for the truck, any ideals on were to go? You sees them alll HahahHa, gonna have to get you to come moose hunting some time hahahha
Last time I was in I seen 4 moose and had 3 more moose cross my tracks on the way out. Look for red willows, white wood aka young maples, young birch grows, even young alders, and young white spruce. Moose are grouping up now. I will try and post a video of my last outing. Find where they feed and wait down wind. Don't go from place to place looking for them, they will come to you. Find the winter feed you'll find the moose. Old mans beard is good too.
I'll go for a quick walk in a little bit to see if I can find one. Bulls are starting to drop their antlers now. Many of them will look like cows now, especially with snow dropping off the trees on them.
NLGhostWolf alright good info, thanks my man!
nice video..u said in one part that there is no bobcats in newfoundland but I thought we had both lynx and bobcats ?
Nope just Lynx in Newfoundland.
There have been reports of people spotting cougars on the island.... I know of 3 separate sightings here on the west coast of the island. But it is the lynx that is native to the island... Also hearing reports that people are starting to see raccoons on the island??? Only time will tell if we now have them here.
Nice video my hometown born there 1982
It's a wonderful Town and it was a great place to grow up...
excellent
Went to to school with Perry LeCointre and Bros Renee, Ida and I forget their father's names. Damn, 2012 since i was back, Speaking of that flood (2006-7?) me and my buddies bought dingies and we rafted around the mall parking lot:P My bros Marcel, his mum owned Beavercraft, Mrs. Cormier. GALLANTS is a fucking Curves! oh man.
Hoped the vid brought back some memories for you.
Good video bud
Thanks I'm glad you liked it
6:58 The house with the Red roof was where I grew up
That's great. glad you caught a glimpse of your old house.
Been in Stephenville a before to watch drag racing down on the old airstrip and also to go farting around on th go carts . I also was there for some house parties long before the covid thing . I can't quite remember the peoples names . I think it was Howel Young and Lonnie Young and Terri Linfield or Terri Linstone and also some Barrys or Barries . Her father was a dentist there a long time ago
Yeah the go carts were fun if you could get the fast one. There was one that always seemed to run faster than the rest. Only rode them a couple of times but I enjoyed it.
I heard that Stephenville airport has been getting UN flights lately, is that true?
Not sure?
Your video was very interesting.
A comment got deleted will try again. There is a video trending on bit chut e that sayes that.

@@LaughingChaos No but Darren is the pharmacist at the Dominion.
