  • We decided to make the move from the city life in Ontario, to a small town in Newfoundland to begin our very first homestead!
We sold a lot of our furniture and shipped everything remaining to our new home. Then we packed our truck and left for the Rock!
Over the course of 5 days, we drove across Canada, mostly on the Trans Canada Highway, leaving our Ontario lifestyle behind.
As we were travelling with our 3 month old, and our bengal cat, we lengthened our trip and drove around 5 - 6 hours each day, planning on sight seeing and stopping for many rests throughout our drive.
Unfortunately there was a lot of rain, and if it wasn't raining it was over 40 degrees outside, so due to our little one and bengal cat, our sight seeing didn't go as planned, but we still had an incredible adventure.
We are excited to begin our new life in Newfoundland, learning to be more self sustained and teaching our little one along the way.

This reminds me of my family's move 4 years ago to retire at 50 in NL! We were so happy to get past Toronto and never looked back! Best decision ever!! Love NL❤

Never having to drive on the 401 sounds great!

I echo that. I drove tour bus for many years and the majority of my trips began by having to go thru Toronto. The rest of the trip was a breeze in comparison except maybe Los Angeles. Retired now and 401 is a dirty word in my world except the city I live in is next to it. By the way. You will enjoy NFL

Made the same move in Sept '22. After 31 years in ON, and having worked from home during COVID, I saw no reason why "home" couldn't be my home province, as I prepared the wind-down to retirement. While there are things - and especially people! - i miss about ON, I'm happy, overall, with the decision. Despite the weather and the higher price of everything except housing.

Really enjoyed this vlog me and my partner been thinking about doing this drive since we arrived in Canada, my question the price of gas for this whole journey a ballpark idea? If you dont mind me asking thank you. As a child my mom wpuld watch Young and Restless on NTV from St John's because would be day ahead of CBS my fascination grew with seeing clips and news of St John's always wanted to visit pn my bucket list at one point maybe even thought abput moving there but since experiencing Canadian winters probably not anymore but its beautiful from what i have seen over the years.

St. Johns can have some nasty winter storms from time to time, but coming from Ontario, where we mostly had small storms quite often, it feels like less of a winter here in Newfoundland than we have ever experienced in Ontario. But with that being said, every winter is different! As for gas, we drive an F150 and probably would ballpark gas to be around $600. That also includes our adventuring around off the main route. Also, gas was around $2 a liter during our trip. 😊

I retired back in Newfoundland from Ontario but I miss Northern Ontario. I might sell the house here and move back to Northern Ontario.. they tax everything here, health care is worse than Ontario and people in Ontario are more welcoming of newcomers, you take your life in your hands because of the culture of drinking and driving is exceptable here hasn't changed since I was young like other places. I guess it's why car insurance is so high, inflation in Newfoundland is crazy
