Check out my friend's great youtube video about the street artist Banksy: • How did Banksy become ...
Great tutorial. So helpful in terms of how the colours mix wet on wet, wet on dry. A very simple but very effective demonstation. Thanks Karen
My father has recently got back into watercolour painting and watches many of your videos. I caught this one while visiting him recently. It inspired me to dig out an old watercolour set from 25 years ago. The tubes had dried up but I carefully cut them open and emptied the dried paint into an old ice cube tray. They only needed a little drop of water to revitalise them. I followed your tutorial and I'm very happy with the results. Thank you for taking the time to make them.
So pleased that both you and your father are inspired by my watercolour tutorials. I love your tip about the dried up tubes! Great idea to put them in the ice cube tray!! Thank you for sharing! 😀
Love it!😊
Thank you! 😊
Love this tutorial! Thank you Karen!
You are so welcome 😊

Thank you so much Holly, that's so generous of you!
Tomorrow’s delight . Thanks for the inspiration…..

Need to go get me a twig now. Such a lovely painting.

Excellent video, I practice, practice and try to do the same 👍🏻😄
That is brilliant! Well done 😊
I love these fragile flowers as well as the buds and seeds. Thanks!
Thank you!
I've recently decided to teach myself watercolours and your tutorials are wonderful inspirations.
At 80 years old the brain needs more than a little help.
My first attempt was your painting of clover. It was such fun to do and I am so proud of my results.
So thank you so much for sharing your work. You have got this old lady excited and these beautiful poppies are my next challenge.
That’s so lovely to hear. Thank you so much 😊
Absolutely so thankful for this video. LOVE it
Love this tutorial Karen……poppies are my favourite flowers ❤
Thank you so much :-)
Very beautiful 😊🇺🇸
Meraviglioso video, grazie mille Karen.
Your painting is very beautiful...there are so many layers, textures and shades.. the poppy field has come alive with your colours😊
Thank you so much!
Love your loose wet in wet watercolor style, it enhances what watercolor is all about. Great teacher and great techniques. Thank you. PS: Why would anyone be foolish enough to vote this down and show their ignorance of the medium. She's great! I'd buy this in a flash.
Thank you so much !
Gorgeous painting ... love the twig idea!
Thank you! 😊
This was one of the very first watercolor floral tutorials that I followed a few years back! It’s still one of my favorite pieces! 🤍
Lovely Poppies✌🏻
Thank you 😁
I love your style and technique. Of all the tutorials I’ve watched yours resonates best with me.
Thanks so much 😊
Now I understand layering😏
I usually paint in watercolors, mainly technical motifs such as locomotives and buildings. I don't usually need these creative techniques. Now I've painted a Mother's Day picture and I'm surprised at how well these tricks produce a decent result. Many thanks for the suggestions.
My pleasure 😊
I'm trying tonight to paint for my very first time watercolor poppies. Let's see how it comes out. I'm doing my best.
Thank you for this video.
🙂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I hope you enjoyed painting tho one 😀
I am a nurse and started painting again about a month ago to try to alleviate some stress from this covid thing. I was never really good at watercolor because I didnt understand the fluidity of watercolor. Now I am truly a lover. I finally get it and have put away the acrylic paints for now. I love, love, love your tutorial on poppies. I actually grow poppies and have taken a load of photos. Now to paint them. You are amazingly gifted and such a great teacher. Thank you very much for sharing your talent with the world.
Thank you so much and for your lovely comment! So pleased that my tutorials have helped you understand about the fluidity of water colour. You are very kind to say that I am gifted, bless you! I hope you continue loving the painting in watercolour! Take care, happy painting :-)

Oh my gosh - this is lovely. It is on my tomorrow's "to do" list! I am just beginning to paint - at 69 it is such a gift and this is definately the best. Thank you, thank you!
Deanna, thank you! Love the fact that one of my paintings is on your "to do" list! Painting is such a gift and I am so glad you have found it and love it! :)
Hi Deanna, similar shoes in terms of coming to painting at a more mature age! I am 67 and started this year with some acrylics, now I want to learn more about watercolours! So much joy and frustration and joy again! All the best to your endeavours!
I loved this tutorial. Thank you! Both my husband and best friend said how great my painting was (their words, not mine, lol) and they've seen a lot of paintings I've done. Your tutorials are simple and easy to follow. Thank you.
Thank you 😊
Thank you Karen. I painted your poppies and loved your quick, swift and beautiful tutorial and painting.I guess I don't have too much patience for anything too long and yours was just right🌹

Thank you so much Susan :)
Thank you so much Susan :-)
Hello Karen; Thank you for an excellent tutorial showing how to paint wet in wet plus how to colour mix. Never thought of using payne’s grey and yellow for green, I will add this to my collection as I am going through the colour spectrum practising mixing all my own colours and creating greens is one of my favourites. I like that you do not sketch but use your brush instead, this is a much better way to create watercolour as I find using a sketch is a little like ‘colouring in’. I too have learnt to use twigs, amazing how this free’s up the creative process. You have a wonderful channel, thank you so much for sharing your invaluable skills. Happy Painting 🎨🌈
Thank you so much for your lovely message I am so pleased that you like this tutorial and my way of painting and teaching! Happy painting :-)
I found your site quite by accident and love your work. I really appreciate your explanations because I am new at watercolor and want to learn. Thanks for your channel!
Hi Linda, I am so glad you found me by accident! So pleased you like my videos, watercolour is all about practice! The more you do the more confident you will become :)
wow.. coloring great
Thank you so much 😀
beautiful, I am going to have a go at painting a similar picture
Good luck Angela, let me know how it goes :)
@@KarenRiceArt Thank you, I will do x
Like Deanna Munro below I am coming to art late in life too and I am 68! Have been digital drawing for a while but not very good. But I am doing digital painting in water colour style now. I did some loose poppies then came across your video...is UA-cam psychic!
Learnt a lot from you about building up. Digital is very forgiving...make a mistake, just rub it out. If you work in layers like i do, it is even easier. Love your voice by the way. Very soothing and just the right amount of talking.
Thank you so much for your comment I am so glad that you are painting at 68! How wonderful! I’m so delighted that you are finding the digital work easier with the watercolour especially with the layering! Thank you for your comment about my voice, so glad that you find it soothing! Take care, happy painting :-)
Excellent merci beaucoup
Merci :)
I was looking at random for a loose water colour scene and stopped when I saw your poppies. I absolutely love this and will have a go soon. Thank you Karen x
Thank you Janice, so glad you stumbled across my channel. Good luck with your painting :)
@@KarenRiceArt Thank you Karen. I will look for your other demos. x
I had great fun doing these Karen, and used a reference photo of my own ( to convince myself it wasn't copying). It turned out pretty decent. Again, I learned the importance of the amount water and also thick, saturated pigment for contrast. Very valuable. Thank you.
That's wonderful Barbara, I am delighted that you found the tutorial useful especially about the water and pigment ratio. I found using a photo useful, but end up creating my own individual work: So glad you liked your result, more importantly! Happy Painting - Thank you for watching :)
I subscribed. I love your technique and video. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much Nilda, I’m so glad that you like my techniques and thank you for your subscription! Take care :-)
Thank you for this great tutorial! I decided to paint it today on Remembrance Day and was fairly pleased with my results. I will do more of your tutorials.
What a lovely gesture Sandy . Thank you for watching and painting.
Lovely and will give this a try as a beginner😁👏👍💕
Holy Cow😱 a twig ??? Wonderful😁👏👏👏👏👏👏
Have fun!
Lovely, thank you for this. I have not painted with watercolour for a long time going to give it a try. Looks so simple but know its going to be hard.
You can do it!
Gorgeous painting! I am just starting to paint and I am 63 years old. I have been painting with acrylics but I really love the look of watercolors. I will purchase some watercolor paper and paints to try this. You make it so simple but I am sure it is not. I will definitely be practicing with you. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.
Thank you :)
I use the lid of my Kuggis box from Ikea as a palette - perfect for mixing. Handy box for storing my tubes too.
Brilliant idea! Thank you for sharing… Happy painting :-)
I love your artwork. I have never really painted other than finger painting as a young child.
I personally only really draw with pencils. I overthink things a lot and I think it makes me feel intimidated by other medium.
I always think "I don't know what brushes to use for what, how to mix colors... I could go on.
I only say all this to say how much I love how well you describe and explain everything. It helps me a lot to not overthink things and feel much more comfortable leaving my sketch pencil lined comfort zone.
Thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your experience of painting and drawing. It can be very daunting to know what brushes what colours to use in watercolour or any painting for that matter. I would start with baby steps one brush one colour one small piece of paper! Take your time, don't be hard on yourself and enjoy it! Happy painting :-)
Awesome
Thank you so much! :)
Thanks for this. Helping to get over my fear of watercolour painting flowers.
First attempt I went in too soon with the green buds and stem painting and they bled. All a learning path.
Going in again soon!
Watercolour can be a very frustrating but rewarding learning process! Have fun :)
I love the painting and your accent
Thank you so much, glad you like the accent! :-)
