Since your left handed swing looks like a lot of amateur golfers, seems like a great opportunity for you to make a video analyzing your lefty swing to explain what you’re doing wrong on those bad shots!
It’s the sway off the ball and inside takeaway from trying to turn on your unnatural side whilst holding the club (arms bend), so you get stuck and don’t turn through the ball at impact which causes the push left / little slice
This is literally the life of a new golfer/high handicapper. Some shots you wonder how the hell you manager to do that (good and bad). Some great shots which are the ones that keep you coming back for more. Probably the most relatable content for the majority of his audience 😂
This is how the majority of us play golf. Really fun to watch and showed all the emotions that we go through during a round. Potentially the most fun to watch video Rick has ever made!
I just feel let down I love watching Tuesday podcast very entertaining and guy is a massive part of that but this is desperate like they had nothing else to show so quickly came up with this we're still waiting to break 75 not this can't even watch it. 😔😢
Rick has a new found respect for the higher handicap golfers who play like this almost every time they play. It can be extremely frustrating, this was good for Rick to practice the mental side of the game.
I love how relatable this whole round is. All who play golf remember when they first started there was a time you felt you were starting to get it but then things just fall apart. The same noises and frustration.
Ok, I'm still only on the first hole, and I think it's worth saying that you should watch this back and see how excited you are about that chip. The enjoyment, there's no pressure, you're having fun; that's how golf should be played.
He honestly needs to see a sports psychologist. His biggest hurdle to playing good golf is the pressure he puts on himself and the negativity he espouses when he doesn't meet his own expectations. It tanks his rounds continuously.
@@WindigoMac TBH he did say towards the end of the round that golf is hard but you should take the wins in between the bad. Honestly I think that is the best mind set to take into golf if you cane. Who hasn't had one of the rounds where you question why do you play golf and basically just want to go home during a round? I swear golf is like bipolar you can be onto of the world than you could just want to go home and climb into bed after a terrible round. Gotta love golf.
Yep! Agree completely!! I go home and think that I could do the entire round with a 7-iron and score better... Then go back to the course and do the same thing over the next week. Gotta love golf!
Rick, I've been introduced to the game of golf more than 30 years ago. Been playing it somewhat more seriously for the past 15 years. Being left or right handed makes no difference on how hard it is for most golf players to break 100. Furthermore, hitting a golf ball on anyone's "opposite" hand most definitely is a challenge on its own. Your swing and your score playing left handed definitely shows your athletic skills! Great video and yes, you'll eventually break 100 playing left handed clubs, I don't even doubt it!
The worst thing that beginners are struggling to break 100 is putting and short game, Rick has very good left handed putting and short game over beginners so He just needs to go every green max 1 over regulation and its easy. Wrote after 1st hole.
Possibly the most relatable video you've ever made, Rick!! Huge respect for switching hands though. Great stuff and I reckon you could make more of this idea 👍
We are in the same situation my friend he just stabbed me in the chest with cold hard facts and a clear demonstration that i suck even in my dominant hand 🤣🤣😂😂😅😅😭😭😭😭😭😭
I loved this video! I just started (3 years ago...lol) and I am still trying to break 100. This makes me feel so much better about where I am at as a golfer. Keep up the content Rick!
@@Lamster66 I absolutely have, but even he pulls off some decent shots. I’ve watched bad golf as well. However seeing Rick hit fats and thins was really pleasing to me 😂
This feels like a really interesting experiment when it comes to expectation and self-imposed pressure - both on the left handed chipping vs right, but also on how the great start made way for the difficult middle section as ambitions rapidly grow! Loved the vid!
Loved the video! Another really good golf channel named Golf Sidekick does a really cool series. He plays 2 balls, 1 with right where he is really good and 1 with left were he is a 25hcp. Really funny to watch and you learn alot. Would be fun to see you try the same, could be a break 75 and break 100/95/90 with left as you get better.
really enjoyed this (not you struggling) but a lot of the time this is how a mid/high handicapper feels and goes through (especially on stroke rounds). Well done thank you. Trying to keep your motivation up as the round goes is what we all struggle with.Great video thank you
Im just here to say keep up the great content. looking back at some of the comments, from complete brain rot people, that just dont seem to know what it means to put in the hard work and keep people smiling and helping others for years and years now, Great inspiration and a great personality
Playing lefty could actually be beneficial for righties. I feel like it forces you to ‘feel’ your shots again and not just muscle memory. Especially on putts and chips.
I’m right hand dominant but, play golf left handed (grew up playing tennis so it’s a right handed backhand essentially) - it really does force you to feel your movement and slows down set up as can easily get narrow / stuck at top of the swing! It helps to pare a strong lead hand grip with a weak trail hand grip also
It could also be beneficial for those truly awful golfers that love the sport to switch and get a good trainer. Then only practice properly with the opposite hand for a few months and see how good you can become. Since the bad habits and muscle memory on the opposite side haven't developed. It'll all be proper form
As a left-handed golfer who is a 2 handicap. I didn't think you would break a 100. But I was impressed, give it three months, and you'll probably break a hundred. Great video
Yeah was talking with my cell mate in Guantanamo last week and we were going on about how we really needed a video of rick playing left handed to cheer us up
This is probably one of the most relatable videos to the majority of subscribers that he's done haha. I'd love to see Rick do a video with @badgolf while playing left handed
Bro we need break 100 back for sure this was awesome to watch a buddy I play with all the time is struggling to to do this with his proper clubs haha so this is awesome to see!!
Great vid, enjoyed it. I'm a leftie and the first time ever I went to play golf they didn't have a left handed club for rental. This reminded me of that time.
Rick we need an episode of half right and half left handed shots around a course. Such as like all odd number holes start right handed and all even number holes start left handed. Then rotate every shot
It’s great to see this content. This would be a great series to use your lessons to improve your left handed game. Many of us have these exact struggles every round. 👍🏻
Attempting to play golf with your non-dominant hand is rough... but having the guts to play 18, film it, AND post it on here for the world to watch is epic! 👌 Fun video!

Rickie, you had the joy and challenge of playing the game! You could always try chipping cross handed as a rightie - I’ve seen people do that quite successfully. I was rooting for you!
This was absolutely one of the most fun Rick Shiels videos I've ever watched. I was laughing (with Rick) throughout. Given how he started, I was thinking it would be a Break 90. However, well, you've got to watch it... :)

Good on you for giving this a good old crack! The funny part for us is seeing that your LH score would beat majority of us weekend warriors most days. Look forward to more great content.
Rick, you have no idea how good you're making me feel right now. Yesterday I shot a 102 at my local course. I had 3 Pars, 1 Birdie, 9/13 Fairways, 3/18 GIR, 37 putts, three 9's (due to penalties), an 8 (on a par 3 due to penalties), a 7 on a Par 5, and a bunch of boggys. Golf really is a hard game for sure, but I can't help but to love the game and play at least once or twice a week when weather permits.
An enormously relatable video 😂 the highs and lows of a round of golf when you just don’t have your game (regular let alone opposite handed!) - you could sense the EMOTIONAL DAMAGE in the middle third of the round 💀
Video idea: Rick, can you go to the range and film yourself working on your left handed drives? If you slice it, tell us what you observe and think happened, what you'll try to change and adjust; then swing again, etc. There's so much UA-cam content of pros telling students what to do... But I'd love to see the real process and internal monologue of a pro working through their OWN swing. I am a lefty. I grew up long ago playing right-handed. It was downright difficult to get left-handed baseball gloves, golf clubs, etc. I was poor kid. Goodwill and pawn stores were my regular shopping locations. Today, getting lefty equipment is easier. I can hit left-handed. Grew up in a right-hand world. Same for throwing and catching a baseball or batting. Really not very hard. I continue to golf right-handed because equipment is still easier to come by. However, left or right I "am what I am" with golf.
