Hey Rick tough luck man just very tense atmosphere seemed like it got you too caught up in your thoughts. Do you think having a close friend to caddy you just to try and lighten the mood would have helped loosen you up during your round? I would love to see more competition in your videos I'm rooting for you man. I've been watching your content for about a year and a half since that is about the time I started getting into golf and I really appreciate all the tips and planning of your shots that you show it's helped me really find a comfortable swing for myself just need more practice to get consistency and maybe a lesson or two of how to hit my fairway woods and hybrids cause I chunk or top those all the time.

Rick, you are one of us … clearly. And that’s why you get all of that love and support. There are so many golfers in your community that can relate to that. We all play - everyone within his/her capability - in >95% of the time ~3 great holes, ~12 okayish ones and then ~3 are just a desaster. Bringing your full skills consistently on 18 is tough. And your round is just a reflection of that reality.
I wish you try again - and I also wish that you would find a Golfclub where you play a few tournaments off the camera - keep it up!! ❤

Rick, I am a long time viewer all the way back to your days teaching in Manchester. I seldom comment but today just want to let you know that I really have enjoyed being able to watch your game and career develop. I remember your first time doing open qualifying and it's great to see you doing competitive golf again, even if only briefly. Just feels like a full-circle moment as just a couple months ago I remember doing US Open qualifiers for the first time and I just feel like I've grown up golfing always looking up to you in one way or another, given that I was just a teen when I first started watching you when I was trying to figure out how to fix my slice. Despite how the results have gone do not feel bad about yourself... you shot a very impressive score and showed passion all the way through. You are doing more than most of us ever will and I commend you for not only going out there and trying to qualify but posting it all here for the world to see! I love your content because it's not just highlights, it's real relatable golf and we all have our ups and downs and that's a big facet of life and golf is very similar in that sense. You are a big inspiration in my personal adventures of golf and I'm sure many others would say the same. Also, I think you should try qualifying again next year. Having a year to prep, though don't drain yourself obviously, you can at the very least mentally refine your game in prep for your next time qualifying and having something like this in my opinion is a great way to keep yourself motivated just having something off in the distance to be working towards. Just an idea. Thank you for all you do, keep up the great work.

Great work Rick. A couple of takeaways - 1. DEFINITELY do this again next year. Despite what most of the goobers on here say, you play some decent golf! AND it is so awesome to watch you compete! 2. Shooting that score, on that course, with that many people around watching is a job well done! I'm a big fan of yours, but also Finchy, Fryer, Carter, and they also had a tough time with the pressure. You guys make teaching/entertainment golf videos for a living, it's fun to watch you compete and try hard, but nobody is GENUINELY expecting you to go out and shoot 64 or anything 😊. And finally 3. THANK YOU for putting these videos out there. Whether you play well or poorly, every Friday there's a new Break 75. It's a testament to your commitment to your fan base as well as your integrity as a golfer. KEEP IT UP!!!!

Each time I watch one of his videos, I feel inspired to pick up a club. well, being the 3rd or 4th doing it might help being the BIGGEST channel, that and the fact that Rick's smart and did numerous club giveaways that required subscribing aka buying his subs. If many other channels did that they would've blown past him long ago, and "most successful "?
Watch the viewing figures, a 3.5M channel that's struggling to get the same views as some 300k channels is in no way shape or form the most successful, and proves that a lot of the "haters " aka people that tell it how it is jumped ship. .Last 2 years Rick shiels went from well over a million views every video to 300,400k most videos, and the reason is Ricky boy felt like he could sleep on his laurels and do zero practice, lots of alcohol and junk food ( he said it, not me!) and then say on his podcast that he "could take anyone on UA-cam "😂,he NOW plays the humble self condescending golfer but he went probably 3,4 years playing like ish (this is probably the best his game looked in those years)and pretending that specific round on the video was a shocker, and people (like yourself I assume?) ate it with rice. He doesn't get sht for no reason, he gets it because he was absolutely delusional about his ability for several years, and not only delusional but REALLY cocky with nothing to show for, always blaming the "no time to practice " running a company with 15 people doing all the work and releasing 1,2 videos per week,no time poor Rick.. When Rick shiels started, he had a full time job, filmed, edited and uploaded everything himself and still managed to practice, even playing in competitions. That cockiness even comes true here, guy's been struggling like crazy for years now,has a break 75 series where he NEVER breaks 75 and decides to start practicing for open qualifying 3 weeks ago and was thinking he had a chance at qualifying, the "I just want to break 75" was just a save face back up plan,Rick in his mind was the 3rd,maybe 2nd player there and was going to shut every one up when he qualified, THAT'S WHY HE DID IT,that and he was scared that the other brit youtubers, especially Peter finch qualified,he's seeing finch approaching views wise and I bet my residence, bank account and wife he's NOT HAPPY about it 😂

If it makes you feel any better Rick, I got a 10 on a par 5 today. I had the wind behind me, so I went after my drive and drop kicked it, which turned the face of my club left a bit and going straight into the o.b. Reload was ok, but now I’m sitting at three with 280 yds to go on a fairway that tightens (same o.b. Left and now water right) and bends left. With the fairway sloping left, I favored the right side and flared my hybrid right, two feet into the pond (at least I got my ball back). Dropping five in the rough, hitting six with 80 yds to a back pin on a top shelf, my balls comes out hot and hits the back of the green and one hops off and rolls down the backside into a terrible lie, short sided with no hope of staying on the top tier. Seventh shot lands short of the pin and rolls out and down the hill, and then rolls some more. 45 feet and three putts later, I’m in for a crowd pleasing 10. Completely wrecked my scorecard, mindset, and soul. I usually shoot in the low to mid 80s on this course (with 80 being my best score here), today was a 91. All that without facing the pressure you were facing.
    Golf is hard.

There has got to be a driver fitting done very soon. Having to use an iron on over 400 yard par 4’s because of a lack in confidence is not a good thing. Much respect. Im new to golf. But one of the most satisfying things is when i go look for my ball in the woods on a little mashie course and see all the other balls that no one took the time to find. Such a fun game.

I liked the ASMR approach. It was good to just unwind watching you go about your shots and still maintaining the emotion of the qualifying as well!
