  • With the initial fitment completed and the manifolds painted it's time to put them on the engine for finally assembly. With the manifolds bolted against the head it was clear further massaging was required. With the manifolds properly mounted, a carb adapter and spacer was required to mount the Holley 4776 DP.

Manifolds came out great! I may have to mount my carb backwards as well, I'm hoping with a tall enough spacer I won't have to.

+Military Chevy Yeah, I really wanted to mount it the other way but any taller than the hat would hit the hood and the Summit dual fuel supply setup I picked hits the valve cover. Ahh well, made the stock linkage work but it was a bit of a pain.

Turbo Camaro Yeah, I have a 625 demon for my 292 and it came with a fuel rail...it Barely fits...so with a 1 inch spacer I should be ok. This is in a 66 C10 so spacing should be fine.

The offy is really nice looking. Is the performance better than the clifford?

I've never had the Clifford, but from what I recall, when I did the original research, the Offy's heated base plate really set it apart as a performance upgrade that allowed for easier warm-ups and smoother daily driving. The Clifford was expected to have slightly better clearance for exhaust headers and better overall flow, but at the loss of easy consistent temperature. So, as a crude comparison, Offy's a nice daily driver upgrade for stock style exhaust manifolds, while Clifford does well with headers and race applications.

It seems aftermarket parts usually need some work to fit together. It's like they thought it out 90% and then you have to do the final fitting.

Yeah, that's a good way to put it for sure.

why didn't you get headers? Is a manifold like that better for a turbo applicatio?

If I wasn't planning to add a turbo shortly after break in I probably would have found some headers. The larger exhaust manifold, whether it be this 292 manifold or the pricier SPA Turbo manifold is necessary to hookup a turbo. The single outlet on these manifolds connects directly to the turbo while headers have at least two outlets which would be much more challenging to adapt for turbo use. Turbocharging aside, headers do look nice and can add to performance.

+Turbo Camaro Nice thanks for the info. I just started my 250 rebuild, so im trying to plan it out.

+chubaka1994 no problem, feel free to ask anything you want. Tons of info on our website too. Lots of good engine videos coming.

    Good ol' made in China!

You're telling me, get ripped off for the price of a fancy adapter plate only to have to adapt it again to fit what it was supposed to in the first place. Still working fine today, but would have been nice not to burn an afternoon on it.

Get rid of the exhaust manifold and get headers.

That was heavily considered but then I'd need to rework the entire turbo, wastegate and downpipe setup... In a different build it would have been a great way to go.
